  • The Roosevelt Island Red Bus, owned by RIOC (Roosevelt Island Operating Company) is a free bus service that runs throughout Roosevelt Island, connecting shopping centers, tourist attractions and visitors, and regular residents of the island in the 2 routes that their few buses run service on; a local service and an express service. The Roosevelt Island Red Bus only has 3 major connections with other means of transportation, those being the Q102 bus route operated by LaGuardia Bus Depot from MTA Bus Company, the Roosevelt Island Tram connecting main stream Manhattan and Roosevelt Island (which is where fare funds are made), and the (F) train, which has its own dedicated subway station with a Roosevelt Island Bus stop right outside of it. These buses have a uniquely simple and vibrant appearance, where the exterior is a fully painted red coat, with minimal logo's and usually no ads on the exterior of the buses. On the interiors, usually you'll come to find blue casing seats with red fabric inserts, silver stainless-steel poles, and slightly different seat arrangements in some buses ordered in 2016, which was reverted in 2018 in exchange for a similar seat layout to the MTA's own order of 2017-2019 XD40's, many of RIOC's buses striking a heavy resemblance to MTA vehicles throughout the fleet history. Prior to todays current fleet, RIOC operated 1994 D40LF's and 2005 Orion VII Hybrids, which are both now retired. Today, they currently operate 1 2007 Orion VII Next Generation Hybrid, 2 2009 Orion VII Next Generation Hybrids (1 assumed retired), 2 2016 New Flyer XD40's and 2 2018 New Flyer XD40's. #rooseveltisland
