yes i will visit The Vessel.
Here Be Barr love you bro
I was just in NYC last week but by the time I found out about this, tickets were sold out, so I went to The Strand instead, my favorite place in NYC.
BTW, aren't AirBNBs illegal in NYC?
@@selphiedoooairbnb is legal in NYC. federal law prevails over state and city law.
@@selphiedooo Love the Strand also!
I see nothing wrong with it since it still is architecturally interesting. To me, it looks like a big pine cone. :)
@@Natehcomedy omg $200M, that's the money for which you build a large skyscraper
it's like if u crossed a honey comb with a pine cone
@@asadb1990 No way. Large skyscrapers can exceed a billion dollars. One World Trade Center cost $3.8 billion.
@@triple7marc that depends where. NYC is just mentally overpriced for the shithole that it is.
Bennie C yes. That is exactly what I thought when I saw it.
My daughter from San Antonio went today. She's interning in the city. I was impressed by her pictures. She liked the art and exercise juxtaposition.
for a photographer that lives in NY it was a new cool place to shoot.
Word it looks cool to me!
You are very lucky human being, belive me!
I don't care if it's a tourist "trap." It's still an attraction. When I go to NYC in May, I'm there!
Male Prostitutes are also an "attraction".
Are you going to do that too ?
Will you be going there later?
@@patrickrobinson317 please disappear
@@patrickrobinson317 Nice homophobia you got going there. Female prostitutes are fine, but male ones? *EWW!*
Bruh you don’t even have to pay I wouldn’t say it’s a tourist trap
Here is the first thing that came to mind when you mentioned Hudson Yard cost $25 billion - 'Mega Money Laundering'.
$200 million alone for this glorified staircase that was obviously going to become a suicide magnet.
I proposed to my wife on the very top of the Vessel in May 2019. The word vessel means up. Mind you i'm afraid of heights but i fought my fears to make her my wife. It was easily one of the important moments of my life.
Underrated comment. If i could like this comment a hundred times i would. Youre a true king and a good man. Hope you and the wife are doing good.
@@thechunkytrucker5111 thank you!!!!!!
For me I’m super inspired by the design of the vessel!! It looks really futuristic in my eyes!! 😎😎
I was there a couple of days ago, and i had a leg workout the day before I went.... listen to him! Do not hit legs before going to the vessel!!! 😂
As a NYC native, that lives 3 blocks from Hudson Yard this is the problem with the “new” NYC. Huge, heavily funded developers (from outside of the US), that use partial union workers, receive tax subsidies, come to to NYC build these gaudy monstrosities/high end malls/high and end apartments. This drives the cost up on all the locals. Your rent goes up, the parking garage goes up, grocery store prices go up, your favorite local restaurants goes out of business because their rents goes up (local bar rent is going from $32,000 per month to $56,000). What made NYC once one of the greatest cities In the world was the mom and pop shops, local bars, lounges and great independent eateries. The NYC politicians chased out Amazon which was building over abandoned warehouses in an industrial area and were creating 25,000 jobs with many over 100K salaries. Yet they gave Hudson Yards more breaks, more funding, higher tax subsidies for an employer that’s brining in retail, service and cleaning jobs. Then the mayor and governor pass a “congestion toll” ($12.50 for cars, upto $18 for taxis and $25 every time a delivery truck goes under 60th street) to lower congestion.
The corrupt conservatives aren’t any better,
@@Carl_McMelvin Conservative and corruption is a redundancy.
Locutus D'Borg Do you understand what you just posted?
All conservative politicians are saints? The most corrupt president in history was your boy the orange blob.
@@Carl_McMelvin I agree that in NYC it’s the corrupt liberals but overall it’s corrupt politicians (liberals and conservatives). Both parties stopped representing the people that they are “paid to represent” and only represent the elites, the rich and worry about enriching themselves.
I was there on Saturday, 4/6/19, It is just what it looks like, and what you can expect. An elaborate, artsy staircase, just like the Eiffel Tower is. We had lots of fun. The greatest city in the world, getting even greater.
Eiffel Tower has a restaurant towards the top. Great view.. not sure how much it cost to eat there.
Agree, was there a week after you. My daughter is going to FIT in Chelsea and it's an easy walk from her place to the shops.
Greatest city in the world? I think not. Certainly one of the shittiest cities in the world IS new york shitty.
We were first timers to NYC last week. We did visit The Vessel, Hudson Yards and the interactive art wall and we loved them all.
All well worth the visit and fitted into out schedule nicely with walking the HighLine. Blessed with awesome weather and being photograph fans, made for some brilliant interesting images.
It looks like the new Avengers building or something made by Tony Stark.
Carlos Eduardo de Melo Rodovalho i mean tony did ask to eat shwarma after the first avengers, maybe he was inspired
Yes, that’s what i told my co-workers, it’s the new Avengers building 😅
Again, you are beyond helpful for tips on visiting the City! Thanks!!! Anyone of my friends who are visiting NYC now get pointed directly to your channel!!
A copper paper wasp nest
30 July, 2021: unfortunately a 4th suicide at the vessel. Temporarily closed.
Not a tourist trap, but a death trap
Blow it up
Just visited yesterday and found this quite by accident. As a photographer I have today it is awesome to shoot from inside it. Bring a super wide camera lens for cool interior shots. Looking down is great and to me looks like the interior of a stadium. Look down from the top toward the sidewalk for cool candid shots. I agree that the inside is much cooler than the outside and you were right about the view but it will get a lot better when the area is finished. I liked it a lot and will return next time I’m in town.
my first impression was a giant pine cone
Mine was an UGLY giant pine cone. What a dump!
Was just in NYC the first week of May, and we went to the Vessel and the mall it was cool. Next time you go there make sure you visit "Little Spain" food market in the basement or lower level. We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
Cool vid, thanks. Unfortunately this structure may be closed for good now... There have been 4 suicides off the structure since it opened.. very sad.
L'appel du vide.
No kidding. Who honestly didn't see that coming a mile away? $200 million to be very predictably demolished in a few years.
Closed in 2021 due to suicides :(
Fucking hilarious. They're going to have to net the whole thing and ruin it
Because the Trump supporters ?
Haters,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hudson Yards is dope! I'm really happy for any new developments in New York
Always good to see more investment properties for chinese billionaires!
SODOSOPA
Wait, so Hudson is where you can score dope. Got it. lol
Dope. Yep - as in the old use of the word.
Went there yesterday and it was DOPE AF. I love going to NYC .I've gone often to NYC it's just another experience in a beautiful city. Most of that area is built up more and the shops at christmas were magical. The Edge is open and there's nothing better. New Yorkers take awhile to warm up to things ...it's a good move.
Fellow New Yorker here👋. Iv been seeing Hudson Yards all over the news. Been wanting to go and check it out. Enjoyed your video, thanks for posting it.
I enjoyed your video. Shout out to Adriana I found your comment about the Eiffel Towel right on time. Here Be Barr, your tour was enjoyable and factual. I'm subscribed to your videos now and look forward to 'binging' on it! On to the next. Oh, and I am going to share this too!
If i go to New York, i would definitely visit it, looks cool and worth a visit.
Tourist trap... human beehive....or alien mother-ship 👽?
Love the details and facts you put into you're videos, definitely one of your strengths. I didn't know about that Hudson yard info. Great video bro.
Happy to help .. Now to get your ass to NYC lol.
Its not a tourist trap if its free!!
It's a giant bee hive and I like it.
Started my internship last week. My first weekend & I plan on visiting this tomorrow
I love the guys hanging off the top of the shed @ 5:33
The architectural innovation and creative design in that structure is amazing. The view from the top, the view from the side, the view from the bottom... all the views!!! It's sick! The use of interesting materials too!
I do love futurism and all things sci-fi though, so maybe that is why I am more drawn to it? Will definitely like to go check it out myself. I will wait for the observation deck too though, that seems like another major highlight!
I like the girl who accompanied you more than the building
the first thought I had when I saw the Vessel was the Escher Stairs painting.
my thoughts too!! Thanks.
I’m with Adriana and you. I could live without it. Performing arts always interests me.
I swear you are probably lying
Though maybe not
I wonder how public opinion of this will change over time.
I went there when it opened up and thought it was awesome!!! Time to go back!
It looks like a beehive, Pine cone, when material, metal, meets nature and sky, beam me up, love it
5:33 I bet you guys missed it.
john doe you have good observation skills. I missed it because the video was too fast. You mean the construction workers lying on the edges? Can’t tell if they are wearing harnesses.
I saw it and immediately when searching for a post about it
I really like it. Really unique landmark to define this new area.
Adriana is an incredibly honest lady; she always says it like it is. That is a most admirable trait.
*Your Heart For Takeaway.......Yeah Yeah Yeah* brought me here
A view to die for!
I can only imagine how crowded it will get on the weekends, especially in the summer. I agree with Adriana the only great views are looking down the structure.
Still pretty crowded on weekends, but going down since the novelty is wearing off.
*The stairs is interesting for the work-out.*
Could be like a walking game for people who do work out on the stairs.
A bit like soviet architecture for impressions, without function.
Awsome structure and architectural interesting display.
I was there for the first time in June of 2019. If you love shopping and love checking out new restaurants, vessel would be worth the visit.
I got my ticket in advance and just checked out the shopping area and had some drinks at the bar/restaurants until the scheduled time for the vessel. There is lot to see, shop, and eat from right by.
I went straight up and took some pics. Top floor of the vessel stairs seems less solid than the previous floors, had some movements while climbing🤪. But overall it seem very nice! * Try to go during sunset. Romantic 🥰.
Was there very recently. Something new, something fancy. Why not? Adds to the flavor and flair of New York and New Yorkers!
TBH - the interior reminds me of a shopping mall circa 1983. The exterior is given me a cyber/futuristic pine cone.
Looks like a Cedar cone. Love it.
I live across the river in Bergen County, NJ
I’m in the city twice a week shooting film and digital.
For a street photographer like myself The Vessel and The Shed is a must to take photos of the people there.
Hudson Yards adds a great backdrop to the people photos I take.😀👍
Cool video. Thanks for doing this. I no longer live in NY but plan to visit this when I come back home. But I am helping some friends plan their trip to NYC in September and I told them that they have to do the High Line. If they start downtown, and do the whole thing, I think this is a great place to end up at. Love your vids!!
It looks really cool and I love it
SO much fun, love your videos! 😁
This space is a photographer's wet dream. Totally worth paying a visit if you can get a free ticket for it. Not worth it if you can't get a free ticket though & have to purchase it with actual money. Reserve a spot well in advance and take it in!!! Great place.
I worked on this project it’s very nice and is a must see and the mall is there as well. You can see the entire west side highway, the Hudson River m, The Culture Shed and yes the vessel is great a must see
great place to get a good exercise with a nice view!! must try!
it looks like a big escalator bank you'd see in a really posh multi level mall you might find in Dubai or Singapore
.
If it were full of escalators which had random up/down directions not necessarily dependant upon which side you go up the diagonal "arms", it would be a lot more fun and interesting.
And about four times as expensive.
@@visionist7 I predict that the billionaires who run Hudson Yards will be frustrated that they can't optimally monetize the vessel, so they eventually will just build a 16 story upscale mall around it
@@thomasphan9719 there's certainly a lot of advertising potential when ascending the structure itself
I visited this with my kids while in the city...we loved it!
Excellent quality video Jon!! I honestly love all your videos. The music you use is fantastic. I have some ideas for other videos though! I know you've done best pizza, donut, bagel, etc. How about best burger, bbq, cheesecake maybe?? Keep up the amazing work!👏
It works like a gigantic ACORN, jazzed up with a metallic color and lights, a lot of lights.
Thanks for the tour! I commute into Manhattan from Long Island so I will definitely check it out. I recommend walking the High Line; there is an entrance adjacent to the Hudson Yards. You can walk down to its southern terminus where the Whitney Museum is located, which I also recommend for visitors. It is pricey ($25.00) but it is easily done in 2 hours.
I've been to the Vessel and 30 Hudson Yards mall twice. I thought it's worthwhile to spend some time wandering around the area. The Vessel will give you a moderate cardio workout climbing the steps. On a sunny , clear day, the view overlooking the Hudson River is just OK..i'm sure the Observation Deck ( Edge) will have AWESOME views. Around the corner between 10th and 11th ave at 32nd street ( 10 Hudson Yards) off the Highline is Mercado Little Spain..an eatery, much like Italian themed ,food emporium, Eataly, but with Spanish food offerings. Overall i have nothing negative to write about other than the fact that apartments within this complex begin somewhere at $3 million + for purchase . Par for the course in the Big Apple.
I went to the Vessel and it is amazing, a really great piece of architecture. Very interesting and great for pictures. You have to like stairs though. As long it's free, it worth it. I don't think I would pay to go up on it.
Yes, the free part is KEY.
I think it looks like something MC Escher would have drawn. It's interesting. I like Adriana's assessment: at some point people didn't like the Eiffel tower...Good point! There's going to people who don't like this either. What's new😉
Thank you for pointing this out. I will be visiting New York for the first time in September and have been watching your videos. You have so many very helpful tips. Due to what you said about this, I will be walking the High Line, and found it is visible from there...that is as close as I will get.
Hi! Love you guys...so cute together....the price tag on this projects is crazy and the city gave away 20b in tax incentatives and the developer had to renegotiate with the construction unions....total craziness...we'll be there in june....again, love you guys!
I've never been in New York City... I plan to go at there next year. So... I'm graduating in Architecture and this specific building just take my total attention. I'm more excited to visit The Vessel than Times Square, for example. hahaha
Love yr videos about NYC. Keep it up. Lots of tourist up there. Nice place to walk around, get some fresh air, get a bite to eat. I think it is like a puzzle piece - keep guessing. Felt like the front of cruise ship with balcony view. The brown reflection is a bit overwhelming . Still nice clean place .
Monstrosity!!!! Lol
I was there in May. It was absolutely beautiful! I didn't climb up, but if I knew there was an elevator, I would have gone up. Next time....
It’s not a trap because it’s free. And you get a good workout and won’t feel guilty pigging out at Mercado Lil Spain right next door.
I love quirky type architecture. Not a fan of standard boring buildings with no character. This is 2019 and we should think outside of the box instead of being close minded about what’s new and different.
This is not very quirky or different, people have been making steel and glass geometric architecture for generations
As you are obviously ignorant that The Vessel is a representation of a spiritual significance although I do not remember exactly from where though.
It's not that quirky...and it's pure symmetry. Nothing new there. You want quirky, see Guggenheim Bilbao.
It is near the Hi Line and there is a lot of history near Hudson Yards. One of my fav lunch places are close to there.
It looks like a tremendous pine cone to me, and since that is one of my favorite shapes, I have to say I love it!
Been there. When the shed and the deck open, this'll be one of the must-see places for every first time NYC visitor. Hint: take the bus from Union Square Park to High Line (14th street) and you'll finish your High Line walk right at the Vessel. But of course, subway line 7 stops right there on its final station.
Looks cool,it’s free and you can get exercise and super photos 👍👍
here be barr is the my favourite you tube channel
Thanks
I'm a native New Yorker, but I'm all that wild about heights. I might still go, at least once!
I think it’s fascinating. What do I think it looks like? It looks like an architects wet dream. It’s a giant interactive sculpture and elevates heart rate. So yeah. I like it
I went to hudson yards the first day they opened, it was crowded, I think the vessel looks better from the inside than outside, I think it looks like a shawarma, also I enjoyed painting in that wall at the mall
I bet it was swamped !
Looks like a pine cone. It's free, cool pics and its good for cardio.
i think it looks cool and different and i love the colour
A modern Star Trek's Borg ship is what it looks like to me. It's a nice observation deck, a nice place to take pictures, just be careful not to be assimilated :D :'D
I think it's beautiful...I didn't know it was shiny copper..architecturally it is very interesting..
I think it looks super cool. I could imagine this showing up in advertisements as a photoshoot background and in movies. 👍👍👍
Hey ! My boyfriend and I visited last week . We walked the high line and that was at the end . Didn’t go up inside , but it looked really cool !
I actually thought everyone was charging their phone when I saw that! Lol 2:14
I'll need to go on my next visit. For some reason, it reminds me of the Reichstag Dome on top of the Reichstag Building in Berlin. That thing can get warm inside. It's glass enclosed that gets heated up by the sun. I walked to the top of that, but didn't stay that long.
Yes, its like BIG bee hive, thanks for sharing.
I haven't been to it yet, I hope they reopen it soon. To be honest, I like it. It's basically stairs, and I don't have an issue with stairs.
Thanks for the heads up Jon, may check it out next time I'm in NYC. Great Work as always :)
Looks like a interactive pinecone for bees. Whoops..same as below. Very organic and would be on my to do list in Manhattan.
It’s the only place to visit in the universe,I love 💕 it
The step wells in India that the architect has referred to to design this vessel served a very specific function. They were a place of gathering and celebration for women. Apart from that they were wells and were used to conserve water. Moreover water served for the reflection that the architect has tried to give here using mirror on the outside. I just feel that these stairs were perfect in case of stepwell but here i don't see them serving any purpose than photography!
I was in NYC recently for the first time. I hadn't included this in my list, but in some way I'm curious to visit it next time. Thanks for your opinion and Adriana's about the Vessel.
Saw this last week and loved it, one of my favourite things!
Hi Jon. First of all let me say that I really LOVE your videos. I visited New York in 1988 and I am always interested to see what's new in the city - and what's more I've been teaching English for 20 years, so it's cool to keep up with all the novelties ; I love recommending your videos to my students in terms of content, but also because you don't speak too fast and even if some of them might find you difficult to understand, there is something they can get out of your videos which are extremely well made. Keep up the good work, stay safe and healthy with Adriana and take care.
I’m a photographer so I definitely visit this, the Edge coming first, but anything new it’s good to see in NY. Thx for your vlogs love it.
Its a great place to execerise. it looks cool . like a bee hive.
Lol that copper thingy "the Vessel" reminds me of an old movie in the 70s "Demon Seed"
You guy's did an amazing job with giving us information.
Welcome to the Future,America 2020!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I think it's stunning.
