Jon boats are a blast. Just left comment about my little jon on your other vid. I recently bought the same fish finder as you on sale. A simple upgrade I did on my jon was placing rigid insulation foam between the ribs which makes a perfect flat surface for plywood, makes floor stronger too
I used left over lp siding from porch ceiling. The other thing I added was a mini jackplate with square aluminum tubing braces between transom and seat. Makes transom stronger, lifts motor, adds setback. My boat's only 10' with 4hp but would handle your 9.9 with the beefed up transom.

I just picked up a brand new 1436 jon from bass pro, it was a package deal with the 15 horse merc, and i i had to buy a trailer, all said and done out the door was 6,150. i wanted the 9.9 but i think it would have been more expensive because i would have had to get the boat and motor separate. I cant wait to get the motor broke in and have some fun with it. I love my hobie kayak, but i needed something with a motor for some of the bigger lakes, and river runs that i want to do.
Will you please tell me how long of a trip you’re comfortable towing that? I want to get one so bad, but I live in south Texas and all the public hunting land is 5 hours away average. I’m worried the tiny wheels aren’t meant for long hauls and I would need some guidance on retrofitting for king trips. Any advice would be great, thank you!

A boat that size you can ratchet strap into the bed a pickup.
Obviously make sure the motor wont flip it up, but it's doable

I love this idea of a tiller handle and no console and a decent size boat as far as space savings it’s the best
I thought my 14x36 was perfect until i got a 14x52. I now think the 52 is perfect. It floats so shallow because of how wide it is and its still not that heavy. And the sides are higher and it sits higher out of water so it can handle bigger waves

The BEST part of these boats, you own them from DAY ONE! We get the same fish, on the same water as the families with boat payments. Yeah, no-frills mean no frills, but YOU NEVER FORGET TO BRING WHAT YOU DON'T NEED TO REMEMBER WITH ONE OF THESE. It is what it is, let it eat.

Thanks for the video. I just found a Topper with a Yamaha 9.9 trolling motor trailer etc. Has some cheap decking I'd probably get rid of. I just worry about the size. Not that it's too small but that I'm too big @ 6'4" and 300. Thoughts?

1 year old video I know, you mention kayak fishing do you miss it? Considering a better kayak but for the 2-3k price I feel I could replace my current 16’ vhull boat with a flat bottom and move my motor and everything over for cheaper

What is the weight capacity? And how many people? I heard you say you had 2 in the front and you in the back. I just picked up at 14’ John boat it says Max 2 people 250lbs. 390 person, gear and motor.

I have the same boat and motor. I like your minimalist build, everything you need and nothing you don't need. Does your outboard motor get in the way of the side scan transducer imaging?

Shaft is very short was actually designed for a kayak. (MotorGuide sent me the motor to do some content with it on kayaks.) I mounted it to the side the way I did because it was the only way I could get enough length for it to work.

i have a 30 year old Fisher jon boat 16ft. it weighs nothing and goes 18-20 with a 9.9. i love it. I have upgraded to a fancy ranger walleye boat but i will never get rid of my jon boat.

I’ve been so hung up on big water boats and if I’m being honest to myself.. I can’t afford it. I could get a decent used one but that’s always a gamble. I could swing one of these… I just don’t get excited fishing smaller lakes.
Hey I'm wanting to buy me one of these trackers now I don't want to run a external tank for the motor so would a 6hp mercury push this well. If not I'll just get the 1542 with the 9.9 and run a external tank. The 6hp has the built in fuel tank to the mower so I just need a 1 gallon emergency tank for when i run out trying to minimize weight
I don’t know if a 6hp would plane it. I only run a 3.5 gallon tank with mine and it does fine. I could run it for like 2 weeks without filling up lol. Gotta love 4-strokes
I fish Bass tournaments out of one with a 20 HP Merc Coleman cooler with a aeration system 36 lb thrust trolling motor and do pretty well I'm a skinny water fisherman

nice simple cheap way to go, i got 1985 starcraft 14ft with 25hp Suzuki, not decked super light, hauls ass with buddy. Jons are limited with waves but hey.
Yeah the Jon’s don’t take waves great but they are usually more stable on flat

What Ah Battery do you use?
I wish I could fish from a Jon boat. I can't stand in one of therm without them being really unstable and risking tossing me out of them, and the seating is so low that I can't get back up if I do sit down.
I know there must be a technique to it, but I have searched RUclips every way I know how and can't find jack.
I will stick to the shoreline, but that looks like all I would ever need, if I could actually use one, lol.

I bought one, its an aluminum boat, nothing special. There is one thing that is different from the other major brands. The drain plug, the darn thing is not in the bottom. Its above the V and ¼” higher than that. Might not sound like a big deal until you try to rinse the mud a grime out. It is so aggravating that I wish I would have given $100 more for one of the others. Oh yea, the paint is awful to. Can almost be scratched with fingernails.
