      Depends!
      There's 2 different kinds of PT wood. One uses copper, the other does not. Depends if it's used for direct ground contact or above. READ THE REQUIRED TREATMENT TAG ON THE WOOD!

    B. White In most states the trailer title will be as important as the boat title. Without the trailer title you can't get a tag and no tag will get you tickets. Also make sure to take a jack with you when looking at a rig and jack up the wheels and see if you think the tires/bearings will/might/maybe get you home.....

    This deserves more views, like bigtime.
    I have wanted a boat since I was a kid, and honestly, nothing fancy. Part of the reason is the kinds of waters my dad used to take us out on when I was about 6, which is basically the extent of my boat knowledge. These days I'm kind of thinking about something along the lines of a 16 foot Jon boat with a V front. It'd be big enough to take out my buddy, maybe his wife and daughter, on some of the lakes around here.
    I kind of lied; my only applicable "boat" experience as of late has been on my kayak, my only personally owed watercraft. For me, it fills the gaps for what I'd want to do on smallest waters, but it's not nearly enough for some of the larger lakes, and I definitely cannot paddle up-stream all day on the bigger rivers. But if I start on the bigger ones, a Jon boat might get me to the smaller ones.
    I figure, if I plan right, I could maybe save up for a basic boat over the next year or two, even if it's a trailer and hull and I get to save up for a budget motor. But really, outside of your video, you may or may not be surprised how willing people at the registration office here are to give info about boats besides, "check our web site, hon," which says to ask for the books etc. at their offices.

    Been down the road with tiny boats little tiny plastic bass fishing boats both have pros and cons and like you mentioned with the aluminum with cracks and having it have it welded or being a welder yourself" and believe me when you get that boat in the water with gear and an extra person you're about maxed out on hull weight capacity" as I mentioned in another videowent ahead and got a 14 ft Carolina skiff will a 25 hp, spend a little extra money once and have a boat to fish the flats and catch trout redfish snookand have the confidence to go out in 3 ft seas the shipping channel to catch tarpon and grouper off shore with no problem and have at least 25 horsepower to out run storms, and yes most people want to keep their costs down I picked up my boat for four grand that's less than a brand-new jon boat without a trailer , & have been around fiberglassingfor too many years if I ever did need to repair it & jell coat but if I had to do it over again " I would have went with a 17 foot with 40 HP" is only 3 ft longer than a 14ft Jon boat which most are trailering anyways and since Carolinas or unsinkable there's really no comparison

    Great video! I had a nice Grumman semi v Jon boat and it started pitting in the transom. I'm still not sure why it happened. I've heard that it's the salt water corrosion, could be electrolysis ( I kept the battery on a rubber mat) , was it the wood between the aluminum plate on the transom got salt water saturated, maybe the bunks ( carpet covered) , should I have put a couple of zinc anodes on the hull?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors Год назад +1

      Transom pitting is pretty common and not usually related to electrolysis. It's likely if there was wood there from the manufacturer it was pressure treated that when wet will corrode aluminum over time. Pressure treated wood has copper in the solution they treat with and copper eats aluminum.

    Check for trailering damage, especially on rollers.tie it down! the keel should support the boat. the seats are structural. submersible trailers should be open frame galvanized and torsion axle if possible, use a light bar instead of trailer lights. look for flex in the transom. have a crappie day.

  • @gunfisher4661

    In Ohio I thought the title on jon boats nothing more than your bill of sale and the registration card you get with the license stickers and there`s a place on the back of the card to sign it over upon sale to new owner, at least that`s the way it is for my jon boat. Good video though because people need to know these things as boats are in sense risky buying. Another thing maybe should have added ,on aluminum boats depending on the brand and type of aluminum that sitting ou tin the sun the aluminum gets fatigued and starts cracking at different points. Star Craft and some others used to be bad for that but in a sense you did cover that in the crack inspection part. I like the newer welded boats with heaver metal but the draw back on them is they run a deeper draft due to their weight and there fore have a smaller capacity. I used to run a Star Craft 12` and it run a 4" draft witch was great for running the shallow rivers in Ohio. But my 12` Lowe runs about a 10" draft and can carry less but it will en dour much more than a Star Craft. Also when you get a boat trailer set up be sure to get a written bill of sale for both and the last registration for the trailer tags also get the trailer serial #`s and put on the bill of sale if it has`nt been destroyed by time. I`ve seen to many lately for sale where the owner says all you got to do is go get it weighed. Scales are not every where so it makes sense to do that as that is what I did and all I had to do was go to the BMV to register the trailer. Thanks for the video.

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors 2 года назад +1

      Title required for 14ft and above, if smaller than that a bill of sale works fine, like for a trailer. Good info on the stress cracks, definitely something to look out for. Thanks for the info.

    I got a question I'm towing with a 1994 mazda b2300 5 speed manual, so my to options I'm buying new a 15ft tracker topper john boat or a lowe 14,1 v1460. What's the pros of having a v hull and what's the pros of a flat bottom I plan to use one of the 2 for fishing and also the cons. Anything helps there about the same price I live in the middle of flordia so it's windy shallow and deep water and mainly over grown under the water in spots and many lily's in other spots. And my current rig is a 2021 oldtown sportsman discovery 119 canoe it's awesome but between lily's and the wind it's time that I buy a boat for bigger water.

      Having fished Florida lakes for years I would say the flatbottom is going to be more useful. Deep V is best for deep, choppy water. Flatbottom is best for calm shallow water.

    Hey MVP I have a boat I got recently. It’s a 14 foot sears 75 year according to the title and it measures and says sears on it but I had a question. Should it have a HIN plate being that old ? On the title it has a HIN but it’s not 12 characters only 11. And I can’t find any on the boat you think it’s okay ?

      If the title is for that boat it should be somewhere on the boat, sometimes its hidden behind the capacity plate or stamped on the transom and not a plate directly.

    Avoid riveted boats. Stick to welded hulls. There's plenty of them out there and they're not likely to leak. Rivets loosen over time promoting leaks.

    Bought from an estate online auction
    Found it there's no HIN plaque or manufacturer info on boat.
    There actually is no place where I see that there ever was this info.
    Boat it older doesn't have foam inside seats so that puts it before 1980ish.
    The boat commission says I need the death certificate of previous owner.
    The executor needs to give me legal paperwork stating they were allowed to sell the boat on the deceased owners behalf.
    Then I need to have auctioneer send me paperwork showing they had the executors permission to auction the boat.
    All this info is needed but with no HIN info I still may not get the registration for the boat.
