    A point that is always neglected is the fact that most places require your vessel to be registered once a motor is placed on it

    • @GreysonRoberts
      @GreysonRoberts  6 месяцев назад +10

      Yup. Especially here in Florida. Even a trolling motor requires registration. Only took me a few minutes and $34 though. No problem!

    I still have a 12 Ft Starcraft (V-hull) since the 1970's. Ocean, Big water resevoire, River, lake and whatever. Cartoped it for many 1000's miles. A 15 Hp Johnson will plane 4 persons pluss gear. You never know when it starts to blow and it gets choppy. Prefer the v-hull to the jon boat

    I agree the metal jonboat is the best conversion base and the best cheap boat. I bought my new 12 foot lowe jonboat for $1000 new in 2017. Get the widest bottom you can, the 32 inch bottom width is no wider than most canoes and very tippy. Mine has a 40 inch wide bottom and is a stable platform to mount a duck blind and shoot out of.

    you know one thing i thing would be neat is if these companies like sundolphin (12 foot john boat) would make actual addon's for their boats.
    for example for that unstable sundolphin, picture a pair extendable pontoons. when retracted they are tight against the hull, but extended they slide out to maybe 2' away from the boat... this gives the boat a much wider beam increasing stability. It could alsy increase the max loading of the boat as they start at only about 500 lbs.
    Next, picture a slide in Cuddy cabin, now your little john boat has a place to hide from the rain and gives it somewhat of an extended range option.
    Finally with the cuddy cabin on, maybe a biminy top for the back :) now you have a 12' flat bottom cuddy cabin cruiser... with a little 8 hp kicker motor, you can go on long camping trips solo or with friend dropping anchor resting in the cabin...

    It would cost me about $3,000 a year to own a boat, even if it’s cheap to buy.

    • @Raeilgunne
      @Raeilgunne 8 месяцев назад +4

      boats are definitely not a cheap thing, accessories, storage, transportation, maintenance, time, all of which aren't cheap. All these would require a yard/outdoor storage unit or dock, trolling motor/outboard, battery/gastank, either a truck or car with trailer hitch and trailer, and basic tools and maintenance equipment. A kayak would be a better entry, but still requires storage. Nothing that deals with water is simple, that's for sure, but if you ever get the opportunity, it's worth it in my opinion. Fishing off a boat feels so much more free than shore fishing, and just being on the water reduces your stress so much. I may look into the pond prowler if i can convince my wife.

      @@Raeilgunne All true. My wife and I live in a high rise in Chicago, 20 minute walk to nearest harbor. We thought about a boat for a while but the annual cost was insane for about 4 months of being able to use the boat. I know what you mean about fishing from a boat though. I really enjoy our annual trips to a lakeside cabin with a boat in Michigan.
