Fancy boats are nice sometimes, but sometimes something simple is really nice as well. Your boat is a great example of a simple boat with some minor upgrades.
Nothing like going out on the water, for the first time, in your very own boat. You listen closely to the engine and feel the way she moves and satisfaction pounds in your chest. I'd keep that boat. I wish I had kept mine.
Neat! I'm a Pacific Northwesterner myself but I can use a lot of these fixes easily on my Starcrafter SuperSport16. Especially really liked the conduit for the wires. I put down the Harbor Freight truck bed liner on my ½" ply floor which was a huge mistake! Black floor in a boat where the summer temps can easily hit 107°, not very foot friendly. Plus my paint job didn't last very well. Thanks for the tips!
I have the same Merc motor as you, love it 😊 those 1970's mercs push water wat better than the newer models with the same specs. Built tough back then !!!
I'm a small boat fisherman too 16 ft flat bottom with a 25 hp mercury jet drive love my little rig i have defintely pushed the limits in it but she hasnt let me down yet, just gotta use your noodle a little more when on big water
Great website I subscribed. I love the way you did your boat. My problem is my 14ft Jon boat is unstable side to side. I do not think those pods you have would help my problem. I must find a fix, but have not seen anything yet I like. If you have a Idea, please give your advice.😊
Appreciate it, I agree that the pods don’t help much with side to side stability. I’ve have heard a few people making or buying outriggers for the sides of jon boats and people say it helps but it seems like they might get in the way some but maybe not. Thank you for watching.
THANK YOU!! I was looking for ideas to build a rod storage box for my 1999 Carolina Skiff J16 that I inherited from my dad, and I think I can build one that would be similar to the console that you built. I just hope I can do as good a job as you have!
I really like this set up I have to say I like the tiller handle and not having a console and have the fish finder off to the side compact and efficient. It just seem ideal with a good trolling motor and fish finder what more does a guy need.
Gute Arbeit. Peter
i took the seat out of my jon boat. i ground the top of the rivets enough to pull the sheet metal past the rivet...and then re-set the rivet with a hammer and piece of iron. the rivet didnt have to be replaced as the old rivet was never removed. so no leaks. just sawed the bottom part of the bottom of the seat as it wouldnt be seen under the new floor i put in
They didn’t affect the steering at all. They were a great investment imo. The boat handles weight so much better and sets level now. Thank you for watching👍
Get a white plastic teflon looking mud flap from an 18 wheeler or dealership to set anchor on. I used them to in the tool boxes so fittings do get damaged.
Great walk through! Really clean and open machine. Thanks for the details in showing how you modified this boat!👌 Really enjoy all your videos. 👍👍. God bless you and your family also.
@@hagengrubbsfishing if it’s bigger than 1/2 then it will be 3/4. Thanks for the quick response, the info, and for the well wishes. I enjoy your content
Nice vid man. I've got a Tracker Topper 1542. I plan on ripping out the bench seat this winter. Only thing is it's got a live well I never use right in the middle so I'm gonna have to figure that out. Might just plug it up and fill it in with some epoxy. But it's a great little light weight boat and my little 15hp Yamaha pushes me 27mph. Of course when I carry two other people and all the gear and coolers that top speed slows down to about between 20-22mph. But I really need room to move around in it. Those bench seats are so wide it just eats up all the room and it's pretty uncomfortable to fish out of with more than two people.
Is there a reason as too why you stitch welded the float pods on instead of welding the float pods solid or does that really make a difference either way? Also how'd you choose the right location too weld them on (Height and distance apart.)
I have the same exact boat and I have a 9.9 hp honda boat motor and it's hard to take out to the river because when I give it throttle the front goes almost straight up and you can't see to take it out. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to stop that?
The float pods would probably help it plain out but they are pricey. I’m not sure if a hydrofoil would help on a motor that size but it would definitely be worth looking into. Thanks for watching
I have a friend with the same size boat with a 9.9 and he plains out fine and runs around 20mph so I’m not sure what’s going on. Have you tried adjusting the trim pin?
Adjust the trim pin usually senond hole from the bottom and get a hydrofoil and make sure cavitation plate is level with the bottom of the boat. My 83 johnson 9.9gets me 24 in my 1436
The least expensive thing you can try is shifting some of your weight forward.-- battery, fuel, cooler, gear. A mate of mine has a 14ft mirrocraft with a 9.8 and while he doesn't have that problem we can add, or subtract, 1.5 mph top speed just by were we place our gear and cooler. Small boats are sensitive to small changes.
I thought I could put like a casting deck on the front and put all my batteries and all my gear up toward the front and try to see if that'll help thanks for everyone's comments
Great boat bro. Its good being handy with welding and do it yourself repairs. I am definitely not that handy. Id love to drive down and fish with you one day bro. I am all settled here at Ft Knox. My bass boat is in the shop at Renegade Marine down in Letchfield for annual service, 2-3 week backlog..LOL
Hey nice boat, I'm interested in the two floats on the back. Did a company make them. You said you tig welded them in, so are they sealed boxes? Also do they run flush with the bottom of the boat? You should do a quick video on just those. I just got a 15 foot 1960-1970s boat that im putting alot of work into.
They are sold by a company called beaver tail and they are a sealed box with a flange that can be welded or riveted on. I can’t remember the exact angles that I set them at but I do remember calling and giving the company the dimensions of the transom and the angle so they could build them to my boat. They make a big difference and I recommend them. Thanks for watching

Thanks for this video. My dad passed and I got his little Jon boat. This is going to help me fix it up in a way that will make him proud.
AWESOME JOB. The way you talk, we aren't to far from neighbors. I've been looking at boats that are too expensive. You may have sold me on a jon boat.
Awesome video, my son and I are working on ours it like identical to yours. Great to see a down to earth person doing what you love. Amen.

It’s a perfect boat for Landon when he gets old enough for his own boat. And it’s something from dad to pass on.
Great idea on the tuff paint
looks like the perfect boat for tournaments

That would make Landon a great starter boat, as a pass down from his dad. 😉👍
Thanks for the follow-up video. Its how I found your channel and am glad to see more of it.
How did you attach the 2x4 for support after removing the center seat? I would like to do this to my v hull. Awesome video!
I just cut it to fit tight and used 2 small stainless lag bolts through the side of hull above waterline. Thank you for watching.

With the boat being a tiller steer and the pods on the back of it how is the steering, At speed can you turn pretty sharp

Great Job man I might Just get one for pike fishing early next year

An excellent video, thank you for sharing it.
Excellent video Hagen!!!! I wanna see u do a few Crappie and White Bass trips out there on the Ohio
Good morning. Is your cranking battery upfront. Love the setup.
What screws are you using to mount into the aluminum sidewalls of the boat?
Get a white plastic teflon looking mud flap from an 18 wheeler or dealership to set anchor on. I used them to in the tool boxes so fittings do get damaged.

I hope you still make Jon boat videos. Cuz I just bought one
Yes sir, I have more jon boat videos coming this year, thanks for watching

just so long as you're complementing the video and not the boat I guess it's an acceptable comment.
Is that 1/2 or 3/4 pvc you used for the conduit? I’m in the middle of a rebuild now and think I’m gonna add the pvc tomorrow
Im pretty sure it’s 3/4, I know it’s bigger than 1/2”
