Didn't know how this would look when I started watching but you did an awesome job on that little boat! And thank you for going step by step and explaining what you were doing. I've built a couple little boats nothing like this but it turned out great! Hope you have many wonderful days and memories on it. Semper Fi from an old Marine
I have to say that I'm very impressed of the work that u provide brother. Keep up the great work and keep the videos and boat content coming. Much love to ya from Maryland❤❤❤.
Wow. This has got to be one of if not the best boat builds I’ve seen. Very clean, not over done. Just what I would want if I was building one. Excellent job my friend.
Love all the details your dedication the many tools products you shared all or at least most of the work yall put in to this project. The outcome was Great thanks for your content I appreciate you
This is decent, at home craftmanship! I love it! I hate to say this but you see some of these type of videos and their craftsmanship is just not there. It is on this build! Nice work!
That was an awesome build. You did an absolutely awesome job. With all of those hand rivets, I bet you can crush a pineapple with your hand lol. Very good work. Now I'm inspired to restore my bass tracker and you gave me some great ideas. Thank you
Very nice job it looks fantastic I’m getting ready to do a bass tracker it’s a 1980’s model I’ve never done anything like this but your videos will help me a ton thank you I hope I can do as good of job as you did
So, I'm a beginner in the fishing and boating arena. My profession is Painter, Carpenter and Upholstery. I've watch many boat DIYs and yours is Beautiful. I'm building my boat. I'll just ask my cousins for the electrical and mecanic parts.
Hydro turf is great stuff very interested to see how the rear platforms hold up. I’ve got a standup jet ski and gets wet when riding mostly submerged and it’s held up great in my opinion so you should be good I’d think but time will tell once again finished product looked great maybe I missed up but what did you end up someone dollar wise rounded up to the nearest hundred ?
Hmmm. Interesting take on it. I watch lots of different vids and use the bits I like on my bank delete sinkhole cost 3 times more than then ever imagined project. You make sure to teach your helper/ daughter how to safely drive that boat. At 62 I am only getting dumber so I teach as much as possible. Thank you for the video.
What’s your thoughts on using the Hydro turf on the whole boat instead of carpet. I’m not a huge fan of carpet in a boat anymore. Awesome build!! This thing is super nice! Also one more tip, have you thought about a front cover for the console and maybe integrating a cooler or livewell somewhere in the boat?
Hi, I'm Brazilian. I'm doing my first project for a small boat. I loved your video, I will follow the channel. I would like to know if the carpet worked or if it smelled bad afterwards?
@@mvboutdoors Cool! In Brazil we don't have this habit, so I'm curious, is this carpet the same as the ones in theaters and indoors or is it a special carpet made to be outside the house?
Hey mate i was wondering if it gets really hot in your boat with the black paint i'm thinking of repainting my boat and i don't want it to get to hot it summer
@@TopStoryss the black paint didn't really do anything because it sits in water but the carpet definitely got hot. The coolest surfaces were the ones with hydroturf.
Hey! Out of curiosity what’s the best way to clean this out- I’ve never had a carpeted boat I’m used to just power washing everything- are there issues with mildew or water getting under everything
Great video and nice build! I’ve never worked with hydroturf, but I’ve read /watched a lot of videos where they say if you have any type of edge or bump (rivet) it show pretty bad through it. Seeing anything where you patched that hole?
Thanks man! Yeah if you have any bumps like rivet heads they will show. It's not too bad, if you use a camo style you'd never see it but on flat colors you do. The full video for the turf you can see the build a little more. As long as your edges are flat though it's purely cosmetic. No issues with the patch!
This was an interesting build. I was wondering if it would have been more cost effective to have bought a used Bass boat? I didn't see any live wells either. Regardless, very nice job.👍
May i ask how much ypu weigh? I ask this because ive wanted a jon boat for a while but have never been on one. I've always thought i exceeded the weight limit on them. Im 6'5 350lbs. Any information is greatly appreciated. Very nice build as well!!
I'm a big guy like you and can say Jon Boats can definitely work but you need to buy the right size. I wouldn't go any smaller than 48" bottom width. A 1448 or 1648 would be fine.
ruclips.net/video/YufHgSBi7zA/видео.html That video has all the details if you wanted more specifics but it's the rustoleum topside gloss black and I used smooth cabinet rollers. Roller / Tray Kit - amzn.to/4bqei5w Topside Black - amzn.to/3UTdxLh

This reminds me of redoing my grandfather's old 17' duracraft. Such a great size and it's so nice knowing every inch of your boat.
What an awesome job you did on this incredible!!!

Thank you for the comment! I was really happy with how it turned out, I'm not a fan of the over the top builds myself.
Wow within the first 8 minutes you already had me hooked! Great work man
Thank you! It was a hell of a project haha
Absolutely gorgeous! Great, great work! Probably one of the best boat build videos I've seen. Thanks so much for all the info.
Definitely a one of a kind Jon boat, great job. Hope it provides years of memories. One lucky ole boat, better than it was when it was brand new 👍👍
That has come a long way! I like how you had your kids help you! my kids saw this and asked when they can help with ours now lol
Wow! This is one of the best builds I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. The hydro turf looks amazing, I have a new goal, thanks for sharing

1648's are pretty easy to come by! Good luck!

Haha, it wasn't too bad. Having a comfortable rivet tool helps a ton. Restore it! It's a fun process seeing it transform.
Great job once again!!! Always nice to catch up and see an awesome transformation!!!
What a legend! Can’t wait to work on my valco
Great job. It's beautiful and functional
Love the vids. Very helpful. Keep it up. The boat looks awesome by the way👍
Super skilled transformation 💪 inspiring do-it-yourselfer 🪄
BADASS!!! Top notch quality.. you should change your name to ROCKSOLID OUTDOORS! LOL
Dude,. That was a very well-made video! You Rock! The only thing I could criticize is the wood surface.( But that's just a matter of taste.)Nice job!

Instructions unclear, I ended up with knowing exactly how to build my dream boat
Haha, get on it!
Incredible stuff!
Great job
Thinking of building a 14 or a 16 footer
Thanks buddy
Love the videos they are very helpful. Your boat looks awesome👍👍👍
Thanks, always appreciate the support!

What an awesome build bro !!
Wow man thats is a killer build beautiful boat man i want on the water now
Would have love to see some of these things done. Like replacing the leaking rivets.

Holler at me for a custom tiller handle extension, noticed the Mickey Mouse one on your motor
GW’s old outboard repair, Dierks Arkansas!

The outboard was the biggest expensive around $5k, for the build itself around $2-3k. Absolutely loved the hydroturf
Very impressive man.Great job !

Cool videos , sweet build, wondering why no added styrofoam under the floor and anywhere else it could be
There was foam under the floors 👍
Great Job!
Thank you!
Hi, I'm Brazilian. I'm doing my first project for a small boat. I loved your video, I will follow the channel. I would like to know if the carpet worked or if it smelled bad afterwards?
No bad smells at all, worked very well. I've used it many times now, I actually use it in my truck bed when hauling certain things.
@@mvboutdoors Cool! In Brazil we don't have this habit, so I'm curious, is this carpet the same as the ones in theaters and indoors or is it a special carpet made to be outside the house?
@@sidneypsi it is made to be outside, it is not a thick and drains water easily.

why didn't you spray the top coat?

How did you get a bucking bar on the other side of the rivet , were you able to reach over with your other hand?
I had a helper for the ones I couldn't reach myself
Hey! Out of curiosity what’s the best way to clean this out- I’ve never had a carpeted boat I’m used to just power washing everything- are there issues with mildew or water getting under everything
With the floor being aluminum everything runs out the drain plug when washing. No issues with mildew as nothing really retains water.
Awesome looks sweet!
Great looking build... Not including man hours, do you have an idea of what you're into this boat? $$$?
I'd say around $8000 including the new motor.
Great build.

Used boats come with used problems!
What are those canisters you attached to the back of the boat fore?
Those are float pods, they provide extra buoyancy to the rear of the boat so its sits more level in the water.
Nice build which do you like more Hydo-Turf sheets or EVA Foam
The hydro-turf is much better quality than off-brand eva foam no doubt, it's like 3x the price.
Awesome build! Do you have a link to the epoxy you used to seal the wood?

@@charleshathcock5223 yeah I regularly had the kids + myself out on the 1648, I wouldn't go much smaller with 3 people just for space
@@mvboutdoors perfect! Thanks again!
What kind of plywood is that? Is it marine?
It's "exterior" grade plywood that was sealed with epoxy.

So, what kinda price are you going to put on this build? $ 3700? Close?
Without the outboard/electronics around there
As soon as you built the spot for the seats my first thought was wow thats way to low for me I would've made it higher with little covy holes 😂😂
do you have link for that hydro turf

Where did you get the console from?
Here you go: amzn.to/3NUEQS8
@mvboutdoors thanks!
Is it just me or does that motor look to be set at to much of an angle backwards? Great looking boat all round
The motor setup was a little wonky getting a long shaft motor to work on a short transom, it levels out though on the water.
I didn’t know you are from Ohio I am aswell from Ohio and me and my buddy are now following this build for out Jon boats
Awesome man, good luck on your builds
what city are you located at in ohio
Should've ran your throttle and steering lines before you walled and floored everything
In hindsight I agree, next time!
I didn’t even know I wanted to build out an old John boat 😅
Well get on it!
@@mvboutdoors trying to find a decent one lol
Ya know.... since you installed a steering console and added float pods your boat could be rated for a higher horsepower outboard. Just fyi.
Yeah I think it would have handled a 30-40hp no problem.
My man said FOOK my garage floor
😂
1648 is the best size I have a 1638 it's not bad but can't stand side by side
I agree, it's really the minimum most should consider for 1-2 people. You can get by with less but it's way more enjoyable with the extra stability!
My wife would have killed me for painting the garage floor
That's the least of what's gone on in that garage, haha.
