We are just now coming out of our icy mess here in Tupelo. We were stuck in doors for a week. I’m from California so this was insane for us lol we have never been so cold.
Tupelo, Mississippi? Yes, ice will shut cities down far faster than snow.
Surprises? No.. It was forecasted! Folks need to pay attention! It's winter! Too many folks go out in this mess unnecessarily! Those who have to be on the roads need to be cautious and prepared! Period! Much of this is very avoidable!
Yes I would say the ice accretion rates caught these motorists off guard a bit. The entire event was very well forecast
And, if you go out walking in this crap, have ice cleats available. The top of your shoes/boots will be wet, but the gripping part should do as it was meant to do
It amazes me how many people do not pay attention to the weather, or forecasts.
@@kevinmalda3182 facts!
@ReedTimmerWx Indeed! Either way.. You have to be prepared that things can change on the drop of a dime. Folks were warned. It could get worse, it might not be as bad as forecasted. Folks forget.. It's a forecast... a prediction based on conditions! You and your team ROCK! God bless all!
Amazing how people don't respect ice warnings!!! Don't drive on ice!!! It's not worth it!! Thanks for your report, Reed!! Never Stop Chasing!!!
I live in South Wales in Britain, even I knew you had a major storm on the way .
Exactly! People still don't know how to use the Internet for weather it seems 😂🤷♂️
Facts! I live in Oklahoman.. We were warned days ahead!
@@iloveschicken6527 I'm in Tulsa. Have a few weather guys on my RUclips. Those guys have been showing it for a full week. Seemed to play out exactly as they said too! I basically knew I'd not go in today since last Tuesday😁
@minibikemafia Exactly! I watch a few faithfully here on RUclips and they are actually more reliable than our local weather/news station! Our locals even showed this to happen. You have the weather radio. Folks are just in too big of a hurry and/or just have their priorities wrong!
It only suprised the ones that live in their own little world😅
Fantastic report, Reed! Amazing drone footage. Absolute worst driving conditions, ever. 👍👍
Thank you New England!
Wow I can't imagine living in a place where it gets lots of ice storms. But Florida still has those hurricanes and severe weather events but I'm still glad I live here. Praying for those people on the road over in Oklahoma. Never stop chasing, Reed!
I lived in Springfield MO during an ice storm once. Took me over 5 hours to drive 70 miles from Joplin MO back home
I remember an ice storm in the late 90's early 2000 Louisville. All night and day the eery sound of my beautiful trees and branches cracking and dropping to the ground!! Praying for your and everyone's safety. Thanks Reed the dominator 💪🙏
It was sure bad here in Nashville, TN also. I'll never forget that ice storm! It was such a scary time, then being stuck together with family, kids, dogs, cats, and a few rodents...for weeks until repairs to the electric lines and we were able to go back home.
That storm went through Arkansas, too. It took two weeks to get the grid back up, and lo and behold part 2 came through.
In total we were without electricity for four weeks, yet my electric bill was more than double the usual bill. 🤷♂️
We are from Arkansas too! In fact I was rather new to TN. @@NO-CHIT when that 90's ice storm hit. We are from NE Arkansas and I am worried about my sis that still lives there since she hasn't answered my messages. That is just awful to hear that you all were affected so severely. I hate it when the electric companies overcharge folks...so unfair. I hope this last storm did not do any damage to your home or grid.
That's a mess alright! Thanks, Reed! You're dominating!
It's the Suprise Ice storm we've been told about for two days. If you work, you need to know the weather, and I'm seeing a bunch of people who are lost because they didn't.
You’re the best Reed - I appreciate the drone footage
What a big mess. Feel so bad for the Truckers.
Great coverage Dr.Timmer. Beautiful city and I loved cruising your stomping grounds. 👍
Ice must be respected or prepare to drift/slide if you don't respect it!!
Experienced this a week ago. Car was completely frozen over! Luckily I had my handy home made remedy - 1/3 vinegar 2/3 water in spray bottle. Sprayed it over door handles and could open car door easily!
Plano Tx 8:10 am - Drizzle/light rain. Ice cycles on roofs and trees. Light accumulation so far.
Yes even down into the DFW area
@@ReedTimmerWxmy son lives in Dallas but he was raised in northern IL and knows how to drive in snowy/icy conditions.
Thankfully, I don't have to drive in this anymore. I'm remote now but I feel bad for everyone else that got stuck in this mess.
This reminds me of the Dallas metro ice storm a year ago, but less severe
I so love it when you are able to use drone assistance! Stay Safe + Well Dr. Reed! Thank You for All that You do for Us!! 🤗✌️❤️🦋🙏
I have been in an ice storm It's really a horrible thing to be in. Thank you for your dedication Reed!!
Thank You So Much Reed!! Outstanding Video as Always!! Please Stay Safe, and Never Stop Chasing!! God Bless!
Iced roads are not a playground by the time you realize its frozen it's already too late .Drive safe and never stop chasing and helping people.
We just had two ice storms in the Portland Metro Area in Oregon. I hate ice! I had to call into work which I never do because it was unsafe to walk in!
Quality production, quality coverage! As always, thank you for showing us the up close and personal view of extreme weather events around the country!
Surprised?? I have known about this storm was going to happen for at least 5 days. Did exactly what they said🤷♂️ some people like to be in denial I think. I also think they like feeding their own egos by saying they went to work on days like today, to make them feel better than the ones smart enough to stay home😂🤷♂️
Yes all of that! Nice analysis
@@ReedTimmerWx thank you sir! I have a 4wd Tahoe....staying home! 😂 My ego is in check haha
If you’re in the ice zone stay in! Drive at a crawl if you cannot stay home. This bites!
I couldn't imagine being in that traffic jam after just ingesting a big cup of coffee!
And then having to pee.
Everyone knew that icestorm was coming and couldn't wait to get on the road. 😂😂😂
Fantastic report and great drone shots reed!
Wow this is amazing Reed
Our weather personnel warned everyone to stay home. It was going to get slick.
Great title. This is seriously insane. Stay safe 🙏
You can have the biggest, baddest, most 4WD off road truck on the planet or the tiniest, most terrible little crap box imaginable, but one thing is still the same: physics
I don't care who you are or what your skills are, ice is ice, stay off the road unless absolutely necessary
2010 it was so bad in Tahlequah, OK. that the trees snapping sounded like a war zone.
No one should ever be surprised by the weather nowadays. It takes
deliberate ignorance to not know what's going on
The last ice storm i was in in ok i was out scraping my windshield and had a heart attack! So we moved to Hawaii.❤❤❤❤❤
People.. No matter what the weather.. accidents, breakdowns, traffic jams etc happen! Even on a local trip.. I keep a ditty bag by my door that I take with me every time I go anywhere in my car! Depending on the time of year. I never leave without bottled water, something to eat and a portable urinal! ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR GAS TANK IS FULL! I keep a hand crank radio, mylar blankets, first aid kit, emergency roadside kit, anti choking device, life jacket, rope, bungees, a tarp, zip ties, a change of clothing, paper towels, oil, antifreeze and anemergency ladder. in my trunk year-round! You may not need these things in an emergency but you might encounter someone who does! I also keep aspirin and benadryl in my car. God bless all!
I live in the Tulsa metro and I've known today was supposed to be bad for over a week now. The news people almost always make conditions sound WAY worse then the actually are, so most people don't really pay attention. Which can be a real problem on the relatively few days a year that we actually have bad winter weather.
Highway 41 in Missouri is closed to the freezing rain 🌧️
Stay safe sir ! Never stop chasing!
Wishing you a Happy Healthy and Safe 2024
🏆🤗💙🙏
My area Bartlesville oklahoma I had brilliant frequent blue green power flashes. 35+ mph wind gusts 1/4" of ice. You could even walk on the streets like you did. This was north of Tulsa all this happened. Even slicker than what they had here in this video. It's all changed to Rain now and greatly improved this afternoon
Oklahoma is slick this morning. I slipped while taking the trash out on my front porch. Luckily I have hand railing..
Surprised people? How? All I've seen on YT last couple days was reports on this ice storm.
All I've seen on the news, Facebook, yt tiktok Instagram is warning of the storm. Like how were we "surprised"? 😂
Facts
I know. I'm in St. Louis, Missouri. I don't have a TV and rely on streaming by a few meteorologists to get my weather. Even I knew this ice storm was coming!
You’d be shocked how many people don’t pay attention to weather forecasts.
Full week here haha. It's an ego thing....they want to feel like harder workers than the people smart enough to stay home🤷♂️
Meanwhile me chasing the flash flooding in south Texas right now. I've had to notify NWS already of multiple places where flooding has submerged roads underneath overpasses leading to road shutdown on San Antonio's west side. No, it is not minor flooding.
People really should pay more attention to the forecasts when ice does occur & stay off the roads if possible. I dealt with ice already this week with the Texas freeze. There is no to little such thing as a surprise storm nowadays with the tech available.
Great actual weather conditions reporting. Thank you❤
Ice is the worst! At least in Wyoming our frozen rain is usually white stuff. Prayers for safety for the people in Oklahoma 🙏
Is freezing rain something that is abnormal in this area? I'm struck by how many people are out driving during an ice event.
Please be safe Reed! Thank you.
I hate driving on ice and I’m in Wisconsin and driven 50 years in winter weather. We just got over a deep freeze. Now, we are having 30’s and 40’s. Any ice is bad but that much in an area not used to it is awful!
I prepped and got groceries 2 days ago. We have gas for our generator too. Never lost power. My family is thankful that we listened. I work from home so no big deal but for the ones who physically have to go in their bosses said don't play with it.
This is hysterical. I've no sympathy for these people. They had been warned.
Never stop chasing. Much love
Should of been in northern alabama we had 4inches of ice fall.
Tulsa here the roads are pretty good just not like parking lots and untreated sidewalks and driveway
Some of those vehicles may likely run out of gasoline before they get off that road. Don't think the EVs will fare well either. I would have taken a half day vacation and stayed home 'till afternoon. (Hindsight!)
😂😂did EVs even recover from the cold yet😂😂
Just got done with this stuff in oregon. Where i happen to live was out of the danger zone, which is weird cause were usually a town that should get this weather. Eugene, Springfield , all up n down i-5 ..a mess. Dang it! Stay OFF the Roads!
Reed Timmer-DroneMaster!!!😊
Ice storm is the absolute worst.
I can’t believe you get traffic jams in Oklahoma of all places. There’s like zero people in Oklahoma.
shared! good job as always my friend
Ummmm. This was forecasted Sheeple. Why not stay home.
Can’t wait for the video! Stay safe out there Oklahoma drivers are pretty bad 😂 (I can say that I live here).
Stay warm.
Looks like a lot of people haven't downloaded the FEMA app, which warns us way in advance.
YT algo loves Ice storms, well done Reed
I was there! Scary! My family in Tennessee was battling huge snow storm!
This is when I would take the bus, if I could make it out of the drive way and down the hill.
I drive a bus…this is no joke. I wouldn’t even take one!😂
Black ice is the worst!
As an okie, I don’t feel sorry for these transplants that moved here.
And in a few more moments today 1/22/24 rain.
Good thing it’s flat because unless you have studded tires cars tend to move by themselves.
54 is closed to highway Missouri is also closed 🔐 for
Just watched you on AccuWeather Reed
Thank you Penny! About to do another live here in 20 min
Unfortunately, this is what my drive home has looked like most nights since the first of the year up in the Colorado mountains on I-70
Alright ice storms 👍🏻
Welcome to the south. Ya’ll understand us yet? This is why most stuff closes. It’s not that we want to but we have to. This year is worse than normal but it happens. Usually the snow melts and refreezes. Not enough snow times to have massive amounts of plows.
That's coming our way in pa tomorrow am
That other meteorologist is cool.
Not to worry! I got all wheel drive! See, we’re moving. Passenger answers were moving backwards!
Nothing like 2007 though!
Ice like sheets of glass...becarful!!!
Should have bought a pair of Auto Socks.
I live south of Norman. I laughed pretty hard today when from my bedroom window I watched two very capable trucks slide all over the place. It took em about an hour to get out. Rule of thumb, if you can’t walk on it, don’t try to drive. Dumb people.
The wind only makes it worse because it may just slide your car around.
listen to weather reports, it's winter time, BAD weather is to be EXPECTED....HOW can this be a surprise!!!!!
E'rybody call in sick. Stay home! Accidents are horrible in ice
Pretty nice when u can chase the weather out of ur front door.
Oh no not me 😮
Air down and ride the shoulder.
New storm: Storm Isha UK
Even a little glaze of ice is nasty!! I would rather have snow at least you can still get around. Are all those ppl getting out of work? Thats a mess! I will stick to my little town. Thats crazy!
What do they do when they close a road and with all that traffic?? Do they reroute or turn them around somewhere? Just curious. Hope everyone got home safely.
Are you going to make a trip to ohio for tonight's ice storm
Wow..haven't seen an ice storm in a while , so had these folks used common sense
Hello 👋 Reed
shouldn't be a surprise.... just watch one of a zillion weather apps or tv
Great to be prepared, car emergency kit - check, emergency food - check, water - check, candles - check, sleeping bag - check, power bank - check, pooper kit - check, life is good 👍.
Ew no thank you 😬😬
😮😮😮❤
Could there have been any way to warn people ahead of time, so they would know what to expect when they encountered the threat? 9:57
All we can do as storm chasers is let people know it’s coming
