BUFFALO COATED IN FEET OF ICE! Insane ice sculptures at Buffalo Harbor

  • Check out this insane layer of ice from a powerful SEICHE or Great Lakes storm surge from a once-in-a-generation blizzard. This is Buffalo Harbor where feet of ice combined with 80 mph winds caused damage to trees and structures. The scenes of the ice sculptures with the lake effect snow band in the background are beautiful this Christmas morning. Never stop chasing.

The USA has always had weird and bad weather and storms, the pilgrims and early Americans probably had to deal with stunningly bad blizzards like this, I am British, here the climate is usually cool or cold and wet with brief warm weather and occasional short heat waves, I doubt we have had extreme ice storms like this.

Buffalo New York sits on Lake Erie; one of the Great Lakes. A "seiche" is a temporary disturbance or oscillation in the water level of a lake or partially enclosed body of water, especially one caused by changes in atmospheric pressure.
I live in Southeastern Michigan. It is currently 16°F here at 3:32 pm. It is still snowing. This snow is Lake Effect snow coming from Lake Michigan on the Western side of the state. It is in a "train pattern" off shore moving in a straight line from between Muskegon and Holland, MI moving due East. I'm just really happy I don't live in Buffalo, NY.

Lastly as CO2 levels drop the systems become more unstable and you get heatwaves, floods, snow etc. Storms.

I was out on arctic ice with an Inuit elder on a sunny day, no wind at all. I couldn't stand still on the ice.
The Inuit elder said it was over six feet thick and strong as concrete and steel, saying it was ancient ice.
He had to hold me before I could stand by myself and gradually shuffle over to watch him at his fishing hole.

As a Buffalonian, and going through all of this, it’s now hitting us in the south towns, south of Hamburg.
To answer your question about a white Christmas I personally prefer a green Christmas and especially after the storm, which is still raging.
This is my last winter. I am moving down south this summer and I won’t miss this at all.
      Merry Christmas everyone!
We can’t be with our loved ones today because there’s a travel ban so there’s a lot of heartache and as far as answering your question about nobody getting hurt the last time I seen it 7 people were found deceased either frozen In their cars or in snow banks.
So this is just a preliminary number - as time goes on the death toll may rise I’ve been stuck at home now since Thursday, I don’t risk my life or anyone else’s life by going out in this weather to try and drive sadly people did despite the driving ban (which is still in effect) -
and lost their lives. It’s very sad when ppl try and win against Mother Nature.
      Not worth it.
My prayers and thoughts go out to the families of the deceased, and if they were alive, I would just wanna ask them. Why why????

I’ve seen ice on Lake Michigan push itself inland like a growing lava flow in a similar phenomena. The Great Lakes region is fascinating

That looks unreal! I'm across the river from you but I couldn't get down to the waterfront if I tried. I'm very snowed in! Had a 5 foot snow drift covering my furnace vent that I had to content with every 3 hours for the last 2 days. And now that it's finally stopped snowing and blowing, I have a 4 foot drift surrounding my car in the driveway that needs to be dug out. But that's ok, I get to work off all that stuffing lol
    Stay safe and warm neighbour!
