Growing up as a weirdo in the Midlands of UK, Motorhead were the band that united punks, goths, new romantics, hippies, thrasher, nobody complained if Motorhead came on. And Ace Of Spades was kind of the outsider anthem of 80s and late 70s.

So true, I remember rock clubs of the day and you'd get the different factions sitting together and keeping to themselves, but certain bands and songs came along which united everyone, this was definitely one. I always hated traditional heavy metal, I loved punk, post punk, Indie (mainly, I was an Indie Kid), ska and lots of other music, folk, blues etc., but always hated metal, but like most of my peers, Motorhead changed that as its almost impossible not to love this song!

My favorite line is in the breakdown before the guitar solo, “That’s the way I like it baby, I don’t want to live forever.” Well, Lemmy didn’t live forever, but he lived just like this song: hard, fast, and full volume from start to finish.

NEVER in the history of parentship have parents regretted buying a stereo more... :-) Loved that disc more than anything. Saw Lemmy at age 15 the first time live and 18 times altogether, the 18th was his second last gig ever in Ludwigsburg/Germany - 14 days before his death, at age 50. He was 'with me' for 35 years and never changed.
He was a shadow of himself, but did his utmost to entertain the crowd. When I heard the news of his death I cried. This man was one of very few true RocknRoller.

One anecdote that springs to mind is the time the band (originally to be called 'Bastard') were tuning up before a gig, only for a man five miles away to phone the venue and complain he couldn't hear his TV!

Lemmy wasnt just a rock and roll icon and hellraiser (would drink every day) but he was also an intelligent guy and had a very strong opinion about stuff - he also collected german war memorabilia. He initially started off by being the roadie for another band called Hawkwind and then became bassist for them. He got kicked out for drug misuse (yeah really!) and then went on to form Motorhead. He used to have the mike upwards so he could perform without looking at the audience. Was once considered the loudest band in the UK in the 80s and 90s. They also teamed up with Girlschool a female UK rock for St Valentines Day Massacre/Please Dont Touch and also the Nolan Sisters (not the typical rock group you would associate with Motorhead, they were clean cut goody two shoes) but yeah, Lemmy was a character. He got diagnosed with cancer two days before his birthday in 2015 and died two days after his birthday RIP

So, some fun facts about Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister.
    - He plays the bass like the guitar because he was a originally a guitarist for the band “Hawkwind”. At one of the shows their bassist didn’t show up, so Lem served as the bassist.
    - Before he was in a band, Lemmy served as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix allegedly told him he wouldn’t make it.
    - The song “Mama I’m coming home” was written by Lemmy for his friend Ozzy Osborne.

They are the first speed metal band. Listening to this song while driving makes you just want to push that pedal down.

They would have hated the term "Speed Metal" but they sure got through a lot of speed. Lemmy often said it was not so much recreational as a practicality to keep up with the touring schedule. "Dropped another handful, to keep us on the road" as one of their early lyrics put it.

@@jamesmeek3475 True, but they were the first band to play fast and hard like this. More bands started doing this type of rock and it became known as speed metal. You ask any of those bands and they will say they hail Motorhead as the band they look up to and strive to be as great as they were. Losing Lemmy was a very sad day in rock history.
