It can only be understood in reverse. Chuck Berry was a blues man. But his blues was the foundation of rock which is why some call him the king of rock and roll (people that don't give that title to Elvis). So it is with Motor Head a rock band that influenced the next wave of music that would come to be known as Heavy Metal.
I always say Ace of Spades feels like being shot out of a cannon at 200mph. We toss around the word legend but Lemmy truly is a legend & beloved amongst his peers.
Saw Lemmy point blank, 3 feet from him and right against the stage, he was spitting out lyrics and playing like he was possessed, what an experience. I felt invigorated other than ringing in the ears. Love Lemmy!
Saw Motörhead 5 times and my ears still hurt over a decade later! Rest in rock and roll Lemmy, Phill and Eddie! 🤟🤟 No Motörhead no Metallica! Lars followed Lemmy and the lads around the UK and was inspired to get into the biz!
The First time I saw Motorhead live, they played "We Are The Roadcrew", the second & following times they didn't, the second time there was a feedback issue with Lemmy's Mic. Edit: From memory Lemmy initially started out as a Roadie (Roadcrew), so if nothing else he would know how to set things up for a band.
I still remember the first time I heard this song.... it was during an episode of the British comedy 'The Young Ones' and it made such an impact on me!! I've been a metal/ rock fan ever since!! God bless Motorhead & RIP Lemmy 🤘🤘
I had heard it before the Young Ones but when the camera turned and showed them in the kitchen playing I about fell off the couch, lol. You could not see that one coming.
Lemmy was the lead singer, bassist, writer, band leader. He always said they didn't play metal, just rock and roll, but "we play it louder and faster than anyone else." Lemmy was quite legendary, a mythic figure in rock n roll, consuming vast amounts of jack daniels & speed that would kill ordinary humans. He said he remembered a time before rock and roll, saw the Beatles at the Cavern Club, was a roadie for Hendrix, was the singer on Hawkwind's only hit (Silver Machine), formed Motorhead and then was called the "godfather of speed and thrash metal". Check out the documentary on him. A quick couple of other songs to sample would be Killed By Death, Overkill, Orgasmatron, and 1916 (one of saddest and stereotype busting songs ever).
"We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll". Rip Lemmy Kilmister. I saw them opening up for Ozzy Osbourne on his first solo tour and I didn't think I was going to be able to hear Ozzy after the onslaught Motorhead subjected us to. Loudest band I've ever heard. Thanks for getting my day going.😁. Killed by Death would be my next suggestion for you. There's a whole bunch more. Have a great day.🍻🇨🇦
@jaythompson5102 , it was after, but I feel like that was more Heavy Metal inspiration rather than Speed/Thrash metal. It definitely has components, but Motörhead took it to the next level. No disrespect at all to Deep Purple. They were part of the "Unholy Trinity", that gave us Metal.
It doesn’t matter what generation you belong to or what your musical preference you have, EVERYBODY loves Motörhead. When Lemmy spits out that Marlboro and lays into that first chord, it’s lights-out. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
Motorhead were at the front edge of metal. They were the heaviest thing around at the time. This song is short but it starts at 100 mph and never slows down.
Motorhead always referred to themselves as a rock and roll band, but they were a starting point for thrash metal because they were so fast and extreme for their time. Teenaged Lars Ulrich, future drummer and founder of Metallica, was the president of the Motorhead fan club in America and even followed them on tour for a couple of months. They were a band that punks and metalheads could both agree on, at a time when you could get beaten up for walking into a club with the wrong hairstyle. The speed metal label is humorous because they were heavy amphetamine users and the word "motorhead" was slang for a speed freak. Motorhead is probably best known for vocalist/bassist Lemmy Kilmister. He was a wild character: a roadie for Jimmy Hendrix, roommate of the head of the Hell's Angels in England, attempted to teach Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols how to actually play bass, wrote highly successful songs for Ozzy Osbourne and other performers, and was so influential to Metallica that the band played as a Motorhead tribute band at his 50th birthday party. Every metal band that was around during his lifetime has a Lemmy story.
Excellent summary. Although, and I could be wrong, but I feel the hostility between punk rock and metal/hardrock fans was primarily a European thing, where the two genres were tightly associated with different socioeconomic classes. At least it seems to me Americans had a more lax attitude about it, even if they followed a similar pattern. A guy like Nikki Sixx was always about both and saw no reason for separation, and he was hardly alone. But you’re spot on about Motorhead uniting us all, on both sides of the pond, in feverish bliss. :)
Lemmy and the boys were great. His lyrics can be hard to understand at times, but such a great voice and there's no mistaking him for anyone else. Great reaction.
Lead singer Lemmy was a big Janet Jackson fan and wanted to record a song with her. However, Sony prohibited him to do so. He intended to record a version of 'Black Cat' with Jackson, apparently he said "We can't always get what we want" .... you guys are knocking these reactions out of the park 😀

☘️ A great British rock band … Another fantastic band to check out which sometimes are overlooked is The Cult .. try their song Fire Woman .. you won’t regret… Great reaction as always 😀👍
YES, Overkill live is phenomenal, we were not sure when it would end when we saw them, just a tremendous rush and how Rock is supposed to make you feel.
I first saw Motorhead in about 78/79 with a fantastic all girl band supporting called Girlschool, who are worth checking out. It was Ian Kilmister ( Lemmy ) on bass/vocals, Phil ( Animal ) Taylor on drums and Eddie Clarke on guitar. All three are sadly no longer with us. RIP
“We’re the kind of band that when we move in next door, all your grass dies” - Lemmy Motorhead was nominated for two awards (Emmy's?) and they were both for covers of Metallica songs.
Lemmy was a fantastic lyricist. Try "1916", "God Was Never On Your Side", "One More F*cking Time" or "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me". Or why not Ozzy Osbourne's "Mama I'm Coming Home" which he also wrote the lyrics for. They're all brilliant. My favorite Lemmy quote: "Just like there’s a fine line between just fishing and standing on the bank looking like an arsehole, the line is whether the fuck you know what you’re doing when you drink ’cos if you don’t know what you’re doing, you just become a terrible boring drunk. Whereas, if you know when to stop, you become an amazing, anecdotal man of the world. Which is better than being the guy having a shit in the bathtub."
I went to my first Motorhead concert early 80's. I was 12 years old and both excited and scared. It was great and I watched them many times for many years. Very unique experience compared to other bands.
*THANKING YOU LOVELY PEOPLE* I'm commenting "Before" watching this as I was one who suggested this.! Phil for sure and Sam might put this in your workout roster.! Much respect from *Ketchum Idaho* :)
Great reaction to a great band and song. The first time I heard them was when someone got me the cassette tape of their album Rockn' Roll. I loved the singers voice cause it was soo gritty and I hadn't heard a voice like that before and thought it was sooo cool. 😀😃😄😁
Motorhead is a straight-up rock/punk crossover. Lemme (lead singer) was literally called Lemme because he was famous for saying "Lemme a fag. (cigarette). Lemme a fiver".
He was a roadie first, but would say "Lemme do that" to the crew....So the DJ, who first got the pub landlord to let them play, told me..That pub is STILL going strong, the Waterloo, in Blackpool..just had their Steampunk weekend there......
Wow, taking on a heavy weight, are we? Woo-hoo, turn it up! As others have commented, I too am a hearing loss victim from a couple encounters with Motorhead, the first time was very loud but was opening for Ozzy Osbourne (when he still had Randy Rhodes on lead guitar) in a large arena and we were half way down the side so it was not really outrageous BUT the second time was in the old Agora Ballroom in W. Hartford CT, we were right to the left of Lemmy, against the stage, and as soon as he turned on his amps, we knew we were in for it. A sonic wave just engulfed the floor area, it was intense, scary and invigorating at the same time, us metal heads wanted to experience them in their prime and we got an hour and a half of energy that would not stop, his bass playing is unique, serving rhythm and lead purposes at the same time. I had ringing in my ears for 3 days before it subsided and was a little bit wounded from the experience but luckily still have most of my hearing. More Motorhead! Try The Chase is Better Than the Catch, another banger from Lemmy & Co. Gone but they will never be forgotten, someone is always head banging with them. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
R.i.p. Lemmy and the rest of the band. You played it faster and louder than anyone else at the time. You only played rock and it was like no one else. You are missed.
Its Saturday and you two are on fire reminds me of my teenage years now changing the subject i bet that when your lady to take out the kitchen trash your answer is yes ma'am lol no worries when I get out to ranch i have no choice either not because my wife tells me to because im single and at the moment actually since I've been a custom home builder I've been married to my work regardless the two of you have a fantastic weekend im headed out to my ranch for the weekend figured id get a little horse riding in stay safe my friends👍
Motörhead is one of the British bands that founded heavy metal rock (along with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden), and "Ace of Spades" is their most iconic song. Sadly, all three from this video have already passed away (RIP Lemmy, Eddie and Phil). By the way: The "ö" comes from German and is called a heavy metal umlaut. It is pronounced like the "u" in burn or the "ea" in learn. 🤘
You guys should watch the great documentary movie ''Lemmy'' which is great for fans but especially for the learning neophyte...Would be a great Reaction ,looks like no other reactor channel ever did it..aaand you would be introduced to other important musicians and bands to later react to...🤘keep up the good work, i really enjoy your reactions.

Lemme god rest his soul was a rock god. Motörhead did the theme song for the wrestler Triple H the son is called The Game. During wrestlemania when he headlined Motörhead was there to play the song live for the match
Fun fact Motorhead was also responsible for Paul "Triple H" Levesque's The Game and The King Of Kings WWE entrance themes. And Evolution's Line In The Sand Entrence themes
Amazing band, first saw them in 1980 and they're probably my favourite band to this day - this is far from their best song, great though it is - RIP Lem, Philthy and Fast Eddie 🤘🤘🤘
If you want energy, you have to see Motorhead live. Something like Overkill from the Stage Fright DVD (which is on RUclips). Different lineup by then but still awesome.
FYI English rock band formed in London in 1975. Considered a precursor to the new wave of British heavy metal, which re-energized heavy metal in the late 1970s. Hot tune...
Saw Motorhead 6-7 times over the decades. Lemmy came from Harkwind and decided to go about as far away from them as he could. Bomber was a hell of a concert a scaled model of a Lancaster bomber on stage with lemmy playing bass on top of it. Hell of a show
Motorhead is the OG punk/metal band. They combined the British punk rock scene with the rock ‘n’ roll/metal movement that was taking place in the later 70s. So in a sense you can say Motörhead are the godfathers of thrash. Killed by death and Orgasmatron are two great Motörhead songs. You should check them out. I saw them in the early 80s at the Country Club in Reseda Ca. Lemmy was a heavy drinker and now has a statue at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in Hollywood. Met him there more than once
Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead use to always say "We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll"...... but yes speed metal IS a genre and this is classified as speed metal but it's also classified as NWOBHM or New Wave of British Heavy Metal. New Wave of British Heavy Metal often abbreviated as NWOBHM was a musical movement in the late 70s and early 80s.
Lemmy was a true legend, held in extremely high esteem among his peers, you should watch the eulogy given by Dave Grohl at his funeral, there was an excellent documentary made about him simply called Lemmy, it's a must see.
Amazing how Motorhead go so much harder, as a fan of metalcore and deathmetal, these awesome blokes still go harder and im still very sure amongst everyone I know still the loudest band period
They were Motörhead and they played rock and roll and we never forget them. Basically they played old rock and roll tunes on high speed (i mean high on speed) faster louder and with more distortion than anyone that time. And by doing that they invented speed metal before that term came to be!
Lemmy's bass playing is largely overlooked. But I have not heard another bass player that plays like him. He had more treble in his tone, a percussive sound, and played more like a rhythm guitarist than a typical bass player. I am not a musician. But that is how I interpret his playing style. They created a huge wall of sound with only 3 people on stage.
We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll. RIP Lemmy, Philthy Animal and Fast Eddie, all gone to that great gig in the sky but never forgotten 🙏
Lemmy forever! We are Motorhead.
Lemmy's up there drinking jack and coke 🏴👍

Yes it was

Motorhead was a weird hybrid between blues speed metal thrash and punk. One of a kind.

Amazing band, first saw them in 1980 and they're probably my favourite band to this day - this is far from their best song, great though it is - RIP Lem, Philthy and Fast Eddie 🤘🤘🤘
I got into them in 2008. Wish I had sooner in life. Now my fave band even over big 4 of thrash.
@traviscrockett3640 you found them, that's all that matters dude 🤘
If you want energy, you have to see Motorhead live. Something like Overkill from the Stage Fright DVD (which is on RUclips). Different lineup by then but still awesome.
FYI English rock band formed in London in 1975. Considered a precursor to the new wave of British heavy metal, which re-energized heavy metal in the late 1970s. Hot tune...
You are actually right this IS speed metal, the very definition of it :)
Punks and Metal Heads both love Motörhead
Lemmy brings people together
Even though thrash bands combined metal and punk, Mötorhead are the one band that truly unites metal and punk fans.
Hugely influential on Thrash Metal for sure.
Phil Taylor the drummer absolute legend the speed 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
A hard-hitting masterpiece of metal.
Saw Motorhead 6-7 times over the decades. Lemmy came from Harkwind and decided to go about as far away from them as he could. Bomber was a hell of a concert a scaled model of a Lancaster bomber on stage with lemmy playing bass on top of it. Hell of a show
I once heard someone say if a Harley Davidson could sing it would sound like Lemmy
Lemmy is the Godfather of Metal.
I saw them in Las Vegas before Lemmy passed away.
This is the original lineup and they are all gone 😪
If you’ve never heard of Motörhead, where have you been living, in a cave 🏴🏴🏴
Lemmy was bass player in Hawkwind. The band name Motörhead is taken from a Hawkwind song of the same name.
In that 3 min song you get a hours worth of energy
Lemmy always said they played Rock and Roll.
Lemmy was a true legend, held in extremely high esteem among his peers, you should watch the eulogy given by Dave Grohl at his funeral, there was an excellent documentary made about him simply called Lemmy, it's a must see.
Motorhead legend of rock! 🤘🎸
I think that was the first video I've seen by you guys where you never stopped the video midflight.
Lars Ulrich chased Motorhead around and ended up traveling with them for while. So, huge influence
First song I head banged to,awesome,👍🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶❤️
Amazing how Motorhead go so much harder, as a fan of metalcore and deathmetal, these awesome blokes still go harder and im still very sure amongst everyone I know still the loudest band period
Listen to it often and have done for several decades...
Lemmy is the godfather of heavy metal
They were Motörhead and they played rock and roll and we never forget them. Basically they played old rock and roll tunes on high speed (i mean high on speed) faster louder and with more distortion than anyone that time. And by doing that they invented speed metal before that term came to be!
Lemmy's bass playing is largely overlooked. But I have not heard another bass player that plays like him. He had more treble in his tone, a percussive sound, and played more like a rhythm guitarist than a typical bass player. I am not a musician. But that is how I interpret his playing style. They created a huge wall of sound with only 3 people on stage.
Your quite right Lemmy was a rhythm guitarist who played bass.
They’ve all passed on now and they blazed the trail for tons of bands that came along in the 80’s and 90’s. All the lyrics are gambling terms.
MOTORHEAD are their own genre.
Motörhead for Life 🤘
