Nikki-- the bass player-- wrote this song after he overdosed, died and came back to life when the EMT gave him two shots of adrenaline in the ambulance in December 1987.

The paramedic who recognised him had a teenage daughter who adored Nikki. So that's why "Nikki ain't dying on my watch". And thus he was given the second shot of adrenaline in a (successful) attempt to revive him.

Let’s not forget he then went home after ripping the IVs out of his arm at the hospital, went home, and promptly went home to shut up again. That time he OD’d but not to the point of death. It helped him realize he had a problem.

Motley definitely embodied the "Sex, drugs, & rock'n'roll" decadence of the 80s. They were famous and infamous, and they liked it that way! Yes, I would consider them a "Glam metal" band. One of my favorite songs by them is "Wild Side". Definitely a darker song but you can barely notice through the energy they gave onstage.

Lost of singles including Dr. Feelgood worth the listen but it was a huge Tour despite my love of Motley Crue with their previous catalog as sings mentioned above.

woof. I think I'd go to jail if I told you stories.
This is Metal. Not heavy metal....but came from Heavy metal. They really were the first of the Hair Metal Bands.
They still had the hard rock to them ( Think Thin Lizzy~ the boys are back in town or Van Halen ~ too many) but added a lot of Glam and hair spray.
    Some other bands like this
    White Snake
    Winger
    etc
all went the big hair glam route.

I never owned Dr. Feelgood, other than Kickstart I'd turn the radio station if any song from it or newer from them came on the radio. I was really into the early band, the first 3 albums are perfect from them in my humble opinion. If they'd have broken up after those releases, I'd probably still have respect for them...I feel the same way about Def Leppard, and a few other bands from that era that I also saw as sellouts before the 80's were even over.

Crue pretty much set the standard for Hard Rock Hair Metal Glam Rock bands back in the day. The tickets to Dr Feelgood or any of their shows were worth every penny I spent. The same energy portrayed in the video was the way they did it on stage. Tommy had insane drum kits he could play this song perfectly while being spun on his rotating rig end over end . The writing of Nicky & Mic was amazing Vince on vocals, he has one of those unique voices that others tried to copy but failed miserably in the attempt. A band you will never forget seeing live.

Your first exposure to Motley Crue was them at the absolute top of their game! This came out when I was in high school and had just gotten my first car, a 1971 Pontiac Firebird. This song and driving was not a good combination for me because as soon as it came on my foot automatically went down on that gas pedal even harder! This was the first tour I saw the Crue on and they opened the show with this song. What a way to get the audience into even more of a frenzy then they already were. I think you should go back and start at the beginning with their hard edge track, Live Wire.

They were part of the huge bunch of bands that cut their teeth playing the Sunset Strip in Hollywood from the late seventies through the eighties.........releasing their fist album in 1981.
This song was partly inspired by the near death experience of bass player Nikki Sixx as a result of a heroin overdose.
That modulated voice you heard was guitarist Mick Mars using a "voice box"......the first time most of us heard one being used was Peter Frampton in 1976, but Joe Perry of Aerosmith also used one in a song before that.
