      I love Wild Side; but I'm afraid it would be wasted on her. She keeps her eyes closed for most of the video - she would totally miss why everyone is ooh and aah over the video. Especially that one part....you know what I mean.

    This was Motley Crue's most popular ballad. Back when MTV played music videos, they had a time when people could vote what video they wanted to see. This video was so popular they had to retire it. Another good ballad by theme is Without You. Phil play it for Samantha and I'll guarantee she'll love you did.

    • @MacMc691
      @MacMc691 10 месяцев назад +3

      I remember those days.... back when MTV did play videos. lol The other retired song from their daily top ten was KISS' Forever, both songs had to be removed from their hourly show, although this Crue song definitely dominated longer. There was an article sometime either in the early 00's or 90's, and the president from MTV was asked about bringing videos back, and he said that he tried it for a short time, but their other programs were netting far better results. I do miss the days of the first iteration of MTV though.

    I wasn't a fan of Poison, Winger, and many other glam bands, but always respected Motley Crue, Whitesnake, and a few others. When Guns N Roses came out, I really looked at them in a different genre - I can't define it really well but a game changer hard rock.

    Glad y'all liked it! You are right. Axl Rose did cite this song as ex of their kind of band using piano. GNR debuted 2 yrs after this song. I saw Crue on this tour in 1985 and it was the wildest best stage show I've ever seen! These guys rocked! BTW, not all of us embrace the phrases "Hair Band" or "Glam Metal". Those phrases didn't exist back then. In the 80's all of these hard rock bands were called Heavy Metal. With Metal meaning hard core stuff these days, I'm fine with relegating this to classic hard rock. But personally despise "Hair" "Glam" metal. That just describes the look, plus 60's 70's all had big hair too. So it just confuses new comers. Love your channel!!

      Have to disagree some. The term glam rock had been around and used a lot in the 70s. I don't recall hearing glam metal so much, but most rock fans in the 80s did not consider Motley Crue as Heavy Metal either. They were a hard rock band doing the glam rock look that mtv wanted. And it was simply a product of mtv as all rock bands in the mid 80s looked exactly like this. Don't recall when people starting calling them hair bands, it was basically a derogatory term as many hated this look and didn't consider most of these bands as anywhere near as good as previous rock bands. Motley Crue was actually one of the few that got more respect and deservedly so. Others of that time have been rightfully, mostly forgotten.

    • @dustinjones8887
      @dustinjones8887 5 месяцев назад

      @@stickman1742 - I'm not talking about Glam Rock. That's like David Bowie. I don't like that phrase either, bc it doesn't describe the music, it describes the look. I'm age 52. I saw Crue in 1985 when I was 13. I grew up in that era, and I and everyone else called Crue "heavy metal". I know, bc I was there. All those bands of that time were called heavy metal too, except bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, Europe and Honeymoon Suite which we called pop metal. Metalica, Slayer, Megadeth etc were considered underground hard core metal at the time. Nowadays, the goal posts have moved on everything heavier than pop. People call classic hard rock from 70's and 80's just "rock". Really? Then what Is Huey Lewis, or The Outfield? Soft Rock? Then what is Air Supply? "Really Really Soft Rock"? See what I'm saying? .....You say; "Others of that time have been rightfully, mostly forgotten". The 80's hard rock/metal genre was HUGE!!!! Well over 100 signed bands. Compare that to grunge with all of 10 bands. So yes, many of those 100+ faded into obscurity, but the main top tier bands of about 25-30 has stood the test of time, appearing on video games, movies, tv and online commercials, stadium sports events. 20+ Bands standing the test of time in 1 genre from 1 decade is more impressive than any other genre or decade. GNR was the first to hit 1 Billion views from any artists in the 20th Century. And GNR has 2 diff songs over 1 B and about to reach 2 Bil. GNR, Motley Crue, Kiss, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, still sell out arenas, so would VH is still alive and touring. Yes, those "hair band" phrases are meant to be derogatory, that's why I hate them. I love music from all decades. If 70's kids don't like 80's, so be it. But there's a hell of lot more hard rock 80's bands that I love than 70's. 70's was a great decad for rock and hard rock, but that's just decade snobbery to put down great music with terms describing a look. These bands were great writers, performers with excellent musicianship. ---To me, since to goal posts moved, I'm okay with "Classic Hard Rock", or "Classic Metal".

      Funny you say that. When I was on the g w, the captain loved lee Greenwood. If you know anything about carriers, they have refueling every three days, so The captain used Lee Greenwood as our breakaway song, so we were real tired of Lee Greenwood by the end of 6 months, and a petition was taken up amongst the 5000 people of the crew that we play home Sweet home as our breakaway song for the very last refueling before heading back home. He played the very first verse and the first chorus of Home Sweet Home and then cut it off and played greenwood. So annoying.

    Kool bit of trivia on how Motley Crue got their name!!-While trying to find a suitable name, Mars remembered an incident which occurred when he was playing with a band called White Horse, when one of the other band members called the group “a motley looking crew.” He had remembered the phrase and later copied it down as Mottley Cru-. After modifying the spelling slightly, “Mötley Crüe” was eventually selected as the band’s name, with the stylistic decision suggested by Neil to add the two sets of metal umlauts supposedly inspired by the German beer Löwenbräu, which the members were drinking at the time.

    So yeah, Motley Crue came out in 1981. This is their 3rd album, so well into the 80's. A lot of the bands were trying recreate the Van Halen model. Or The Motley crue and Def Leppard model later on. But yeah, this was the style, you had to have this kind of element to your look/sound to get on MTV at the time.

    Oh my gosh, crue was so much fun but yes very glam. Maybe thsts why hard metal fans did not like them, but thry fit right into the 80s. We were hung up on the music, not what people " looked" like. Thats one thing that made the 80s so special. We really loved our friends, family and our musicians. Videos like these are sad. They miss home. We fail to realize, they sacriiced their lives to bring us music and not many escape the drugs, women and alcohol which actually destroys their important relationships. Nice reaction. People never notice this. At 2:32 you can see Tommy's drum kit is vertical to the stage. This was his first iteration of crazy drum kits. Next his drum spun around in the air, then it floated out over the audience and on their last tour (well the one that was supposed to be their last) is was on a roller coaster that went from the stage to the back of the arena. The opening of the video is just Motley showing off their humor. This is also the most glam they ever went. This was the tour for their third album, Theater of Pain, they got a lot of grief for it too. Aerosmith wrote their song Dude Looks Like a Lady after seeing Vince, the signer, in that pink and white outfit. They went back to jeans and leather on the next album but this album and this song was so huge that it started the glam era of the 80s which would see bands like Cinderella and Poison make it big on the scene. That era also got a lot of grief from metal fans so the last era of the 80s saw much more stripped down bands like Skid Row and Gun N Roses. Some other bands you should check out from the early 80s, the core of hair metal, is Ratt - Round and Round, Dokken - Breakin the Chains and W.A.S.P. - Tormentor. W.A.S.P. is kind of the Slayer of hair metal.

    Sam...you may have heard this at the end of the movie Hot Tub Time Machine. That movie had tons of nostalgic moments and was a pretty popular movie at its time. It's also run A LOT on cable channels.

    This is one of their biggest hits! You have to see the tribute of this song performed by a country artist named Justin Moore, I believe that's his name.

    While just called "hair bands" these days bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Giuffria, Europe, Vain, Faster Pussycat, etc were referred to as "hair metal bands". "Hair metal" was pretty much a sub-genre of classic metal that quickly became an off-shoot of rock/hard rock a little over a decade ago. Now it's just considered "hair bands" and classified as a mesh of glam/pop/rock, the inception of grunge, thrash and speed metal changed the way everyone looked at "hair metal". It's how bands like Queensryche, Whitesnake, etc have gone from their classic metal tags to progressive hard rock, blues rock, etc. There was a little joke that went around back in the day, it was said that hairspray companies would've all gone bankrupt if it wasn't for hair metal bands and their fans and how they took the hairspray industry profits from those of a small-town to those of an entire third-world nation due to MTV videos.

    Don’t know if military personnel still do it, but when I was in from 88 to 92 when people were going back to the states from an overseas assignments would play the song.

    We were going to see Aerosmith in Connecticut kiss was opening up for them and both bands were at the hotel we were staying at. We were in the bar and Paul Stanley from kiss came down and sat at the table right behind us and then was joined by doc McGee formerly the manager for motley Crue and we got to listen to some pretty wild ass stories of this band.

    Motley Crue is one of only w bands that GnR respected. The Crue came out about 6 years before GnR. Both from LA, so they had a similar sound. Here's the Crue look by album...
    1st - post apocalyptic
    2nd - total glam
    3rd - denim/leather/biker
    4th - finally, just regular rock style. Not many clothes 😅

    Saw this tour and I noticed the next day the shirt I wore had red stains all over it because they had dropped red water from the ceiling in honor of Theater of Pain name of the album. Great concert.

    Crue and Guns were competing bands in the LA Rock scene. There was some beef between them. Axl said Cue was "Glam", which to him stood for "Gay L.A. Metal"

    This song Home Sweet Home is from their 3rd album Theatre of Pain and their only ballad. Their first album, Too Fast for Love, was released in 1981. 2nd album Shout at the Devil was released in 1981. Theatre of Pain was released in 1985. They released their 4th album Girls, Girls, Girls in 1987. They were the ultimate partiers with more drugs and alcohol than you could imagine. Rumor has it that the only person that could party as hard as them was Ozzy Osbourne. After this album their manager and others forced them into rehab. Their 5th album Dr. Feelgood was released in 1989. It was the first album Mötley Crüe recorded after their quest for sobriety and rehabilitation.

    Hi my lovely couple - If they influenced GnR I don't know, but they were a big influence to other 80's Glam Metal bands. Not my personal favourite genre, but they were fun to see live back in 1984 when I saw them in Sweden.

    You should check out Smoke The Sky, Uncle Jack and Misunderstood from their 1994 self titled album. They had fired Vince Neil and had John Corabi (The Scream, Union and The Dead Daisies) on vocals and rhythm guitar. Freed up Mick Mars to concentrate on the lead guitar. The heaviest Motley Crue album. Totally different

    Despite the 3rd Motley Crue album ('Theater of Pain') in 1985 becoming another huge hit, it came after a tragedy hit the band and Nikki Sixx (bass) was abusing he+++n by that point as well as other drugs and alcohol... In 1984, Vince Neil (vocals) took his new sports car for a spin w/ his friend Nicholas 'Razzle' Dingley (drummer of the band Hanoi Rocks) after partying and he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another car w/ a couple, who were seriously injured... Vince Neil was unhurt miraculously, but Razzle was killed ("My buddy Razzle died in my arms that night..." lamented Vince Neil years later)
    Vince Neil was arrested and spent time in jail for vehicular manslaughter... When he was released, he owed money from his liability from the crash ... He had to return to Motley Crue to work and pay off his debts. He stayed sober for a while, but fell off the wagon again on tour... People who knew Vince said he was never the same after the accident and drank more... became more irritable & difficult from guilt and anger.

    You guys should watch movie “the dirt” in your free time. About Motley Crue, not totally accurate but they were fkin crazy crazy.
    I lived at the beach for a year when Covid hit, nothing is better than sitting on the deck w a speaker blaring Motley Crue, drinking a few beers & smacking bong. Or doing the same but on the beach
