I learned "lo que" very simply. It's the non-question "what".
Another great lesson. I've have native speaking Spanish tutors and friends to converse with. I though a native speaker would be the best way to learn. But native speakers rarely know hot to explain grammar and language concepts to no-natives like someone who's gone through the process of learning the language. Natives often times take this things for granted, or don't know how to explain the reasons for saying things a certain way to native English speakers like another English speaker. I learn tons from your video even after a couple years of learning and practice under my belt. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I agree. I think you get something different from native and non-native speakers. My wife is a native speaker and she can tell me what sounds correct and help me with pronunciation but she can't tell me why something is the way it is in Spanish or share tips on how to create grammatically correct sentences. I suppose that's why I don't teach English. I really wouldn't have any tips to share...lol.
So true!@@QrooSpanish
¿ Sabes lo que quiero, ? Más videos como esto, - muchas gracias. - Phil
Nice use of that construction!
I have long believed that the best teachers are those people who, at one time, struggled with a particular subject and overcame it. And are then very articulate, patient and able to describe the learning process to others.
Keep up the great work.
And, because I've heard you mentioned it before, don't feel that you will isolate your beginner students by getting into more intermediate and advanced stuff.
Your teaching style is very rare and you could do excellent work at bridging the Gap between beginning, intermediate and advanced.
None of these groups of individuals will feel abandoned or betrayed, they will feel grateful to have a bridge to the next level.
Thank you very much for that, Bryan. I have been thinking quite a bit about which way to go with this channel.
@@QrooSpanish If you cover every level with the same style you have, sir, you will well-serve all your viewers.
The way you repeat yourself with examples, concentrating on one topic is effective and one-of-a-kind.
Wow, I am really enjoying your teaching style. They are the right length to fill in some random time, and still packed very valuable information. You also have managed to use very relatable ways to associate words and phrases. I really appreciate these lessons you put together.
Glad you like them!
Straight and to the point. Thank you.
I get a 30 minute lunch break at work. Just landed on your channel and realised how I'm now going to spend my time! 🙂
Awesome. Thanks.
It helped me to think of the 'lo' in 'lo que' as meaning 'the thing'.
- 'Lo que' = 'the thing that'.
- 'Lo que más quiero es una amiga' = 'the thing that I most want is a friend'.
- 'Lo que menos me gusta es la comida picante' = 'the thing I like least is spicy food'.
Of course, you could just think of 'lo que' in these examples as meaning 'what', but this meaning of 'lo' can be extended to other use cases:
- 'Lo útil' = 'the useful thing'.
- 'Lo mas sensato seria volver a casa' = 'the simplest thing would be to go home'.
That's a good way to look at it. Thanks for sharing.
En Chile también se diferencia el oir del escuchar, de hecho cuando alguien está hablando y siente que no le estás poniendo atención te pregunta "¿me estás oyendo o me estás escuchando?".. 'oir' es lo que haces sin esfuerzo, 'escuchar' es cuando pones atención
As a bilingual teacher I use Spanish all the time however Qroo’s choice of lesson topics is useful and clearly presented. Thanks!
Hi there. I have been trying to teach myself Spanish for about 2 years - not very consistently - and a few months ago took a class. I was given a placement test and was deemed on the cusp of advanced and intermediate. Perhaps it’s because I have been exposed to Spanish since I was a kid and many words and phrases are familiar to me, but to this day I find it difficult to string sentences together. My comprehension is far better than my verbal skills. After watching some of your classes, I learned that what I need to work on is the speed of my command of the language (sort of like increasing the RAM of my computer) - and your plug-in technique, I think, is very effective. Your “Lo que,” “Avísame,” “En cuanto a…” etc. is the key to accessing the stash of vocabulary and phrases I learned or memorized. The exercises I believe are most helpful. Thank you!
I love the RAM analogy. I think I may use that in the future. Thanks for watching the videos. Take care.
i could never get this down but u hands down explained it so well. thankyou very much. i i love how you taught other things while teaching about lo que. amazing❤❤
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You are an excellent teacher! Thank you! It's funny- a questions comes to mind as I'm listening and you answer it in the next few seconds. Bravo!
Thank you! 😃
I was just thinking about 'lo que' earlier today while out walking the dog, then sitting looking for Spanish learning inspiration this evening, 'lo and behold' (no idea how you say that in Spanish) here it is!!
Paul is surely multi-talented.
Paul seguramente tiene multiples talentos.
Brilliant explanation right from the first minute of the video. So many videos are so complicated 👏
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
I think you have hit the perfect medium. Teaching grammar, clearing up confusion associated with grammar and conversational Spanish all together at the same time. Well done I recommend this channel to everyone.
Thank you! 😃
Thanks for addressing these type of topics, Paul. You address an area that I find is often over-looked on RUclips. There are plenty of videos designed for the beginning student, but it’s hard to find ones designed for the intermediate or advanced/ing student. Looking forward to more videos of this type.
Thanks, Rob. I'm glad you found it helpful.
Lo que admiro es que siempre sabes lo que tus espectadores quieren aprender.
I love your videos, they help me so much! Thanks for everything Paul!
Glad you like them, Matt. Thanks for watching.
You know what, I keep on viewing all your lessons…it helps me a lot with my Spanish…thanks Paul. I hope that keep on doing videos and I hope that lots of people can discover it…
Thanks for the positive feedback. It helps to keep me motivated to create new content.
Great vid. Straight to the point. No gimmicks.
Very helpful-the explanation of use is very handy to know and use!!!!
I've been watching teachers on RUclips for years and he's the best one for sure. Its his logic then makes it easier and he doesn't waste time
Many thanks for such clear and uncluttered explanations that hit the point every time.
Just came upon your channel.
I love your style of teaching. Though im only 4 months into learning Spanish daily on an app, your lessons really round out give substance to what I have learned. Thanks!
Anytime I really need to pay attention while learning something very important in spanish gramma, I look to your explanations. Your comments are ALWAYS exactly what I need. Thanks for your very useful information that I can instantly use.
Senor paul. Gracias, gracias, . Entiendo cada y todo palabra tu dice!!!!
Se dice:" entiendo todas y cada una de las palabras que tú dices"
Brilliant, so simple. Others have made this more complicated than it needed to be.
This video is very helpful. Thank you ❤️
Very good lesson. Easy to understand. 👍
Glad you liked it!
thanks very much Paul, great explanation (as usual!)
Love your channel Paul. You make videos on all of the tricky bits, that are often overlooked, I feel.
My native teachers are brilliant, and I have learned a lot, but I feel at times they struggle to grasp just how confusing some of the smaller bits of the language are for none native speakers.
These are all of the same things that I struggled with back in the day. The advantage that I have over a native speaker is that I can explain how it finally made sense to me. :)
Gracias, señor.
De nada. Gracias por verlo.
Popular or not, this is a fantastic channel.
Thanks. :)
Gracias por compartir, soy Filipino y aprendo El idioma de español
Omg. You are so excellent teacher 👨🏫
Thanks again, Alexa. :)
Qué gran profesor!
Thank you so much for this lesson
Oh I love your lessons. ❤
Un vídeo genial, muchas gracias por esta lección estupenda 🎉
You know (?) I've not done any Spanish for over six years and yet your videos are so easy to follow - free from clutter and straight to the point. You have a rare talent Paul.
Thanks for your brief and very informative lessons.
My pleasure!
Let me first say thank you for teaching this lesson so clearly and directly. I stopped my (self taught) language learning years ago and this was the most difficult question for the native Latino speakers I met to answer for me. You randomly popped up as a suggestion and I definitely have subscribed to your channel and I will check out your other channel as well. I have watched about four of your videos and I love your direct teaching format. I hope my Spanish is a good as yours someday. Thank you again and as long as you keep making videos, I'll keep watching.
I'm so glad to hear that you have found some of the videos helpful. You made my day. Take care and have a wodnerful 2022.
Sabes lo que quiero decir, gracias muchísimas por tu vídeo.
Gracias por verlo. :)
Thanks for a clear undersatanding of the meaning of “qué” y “ qué” .
This was a game changer for me ; looking back it improved my Spanish speaking immensely along with the subjunctive great crucial videos Paul thanks
Super helpful - really enjoying your channel Paul!
Great to hear!
you my friend just earned yourself a subscriber. Clearest breakdown I have seen so far.
Thanks! Welcome to the channel.
Glad i found this channel….been studying on my own for a short while….Espanol en espanol….but sometimes it really helps having a native English speaking Spanish speaking expert explain the inner workings for me…….
Gosh you’re so helpful! Your videos are very good. En serio 🥰 I have to slowly watch them all
Glad you like them!
This is the first video I have seen and I am very impressed. Clear and concise explanations. I will look out for more. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

Welcome to the channel.
Thank you for this video. Now i know how to use this structure
Awesome video. Thanks Paul!
Otra buena clase, gracias!
I love this "mexican spanish" learning. For some reason this is so hard for me to find. Thank you. Please keep going.
Thank you! Will do!
Such a great teacher, thanks very much
Thank you! 😃
I saw your other video where you said lo que can be thought of as "that which."
In all the videos I've watched it was always referred to as meaning "what" in a non-question sense.
Even though I knew what it meant in some usages I had to think about it for a second to get what the speaker or sentence actually meant.
Always thinking about it in the "that which" sense has made a world of difference for me.
Thanks.
I'm glad that helped. In these videos I share what worked for me over the years.
For intermediate english students , as I am, this lessons also help a lot. Word combinations like this could be studied reverse-wise. Maybe without intention but you are explaining how to use "Lo que" transposed to many english sentences.
That was never my intention but I'm glad that some people may find it useful to help them learn English as well.
Great lesson thx Paul!
Muy claro. ¡Gracias!
Amazing content! I can read better than I can speak so your channel has been helping with. Between this and the videos on the redundant “le” I am amazed. New subscriber here for sure!
Thank you
¡Muchísimas gracias!
I love this
This was really helpful Paul
Wow, what a useful phrase! Learning Spanish REALLY wasn't this easy in high school! You should absolutely be a teacher.... I suppose you are :) Esto courso es pan comido
Very helpful,,
May Allah reward you 👏👏👏👏👏.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the lessons I’m learning a lot
Glad to hear it. :)
Thank you for these lessons. I am excited that I understand some lower intermediate spanish but I was stuck. Your lessons and your kind, thoughtful style of teaching was made for me. Thank you for inspiring me to grow into intermediate.
Happy to help. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback.
Love your videos, you explain everything so clearly. I'm planning on moving to Spain and I've been teaching myself spanish and trying to learn the granmar as I come across it.
¡Muchas gracias por sus vídeos!
Thanks for watching. It's great that you have taken the incentive to start learning the language before moving. :)
The phrase 'You know and I want' can be translated:
Tú sabes lo que quiero
Sabes lo que quiero
Tú sabes que quiero
Sabes que quiero
As you can see, you can omit the subject (Tú) and de indefinite article (lo). Anyway that you choose native Spanish people understand you. By the way a native Spanish guy.
Great video, man!
Sorry, but I'm afraid that everybody at this level (having mastered very basic conjugation) is absolutely aware of that redundancy. If you want to stress the subject, you use the pronouns, if not, just drop them. So what?
A GREAT presentation!
Thanks!
Dios mío, creo que entiendo “lo que” finalmente 😭😭😭 muchas gracias! Felicidades por 10mil! 🥳🥳🥳
Gracias por eso
Awesome video..i was so confused about this word before seeing it. Thank you
Thanks for watching. Happy New Year, Christiaan.
A great video, so simple when explained in language that I can understand. Thank you 😊❤
Glad it was helpful!
For me these sentence starters are the BEST! If I can only get them down well enough to use them with more confidence... lol Please keep as many of these coming as possible... VERY helpful!
Thanks for the feedback. i'm glad you like them. :)
Hi Paul, I am german and have to pay you a huge compliment. Your way of teaching Spanish is far better than anything I’ve found on RUclips in my own language. Which of course means a double win for me: my english improves at the same time. So - two birds with one stone.
What do you say about it in spanish?
Great lesson, really useful. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Excellent explanation, mil gracias!
Glad it was helpful!
FINALLY thank you so much for this video I now understand what lo que is...ha,ha😉
love it
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Great stuff
Excellent presentation. Well done! Clear and concise.
Thank you kindly!
Wow! This is really good!
Thanks. :)
