This formerly lost “duolinguist working through subjunctive” is incredibly grateful. I feel like you have really given a boost to my understanding. I’ve read my textbooks on mood, but you have clarified the murk. Gracias!
I personally LOVE the quizzing. It forces me to think kn the spot like if I were really talking to someone. I spend HOURS in the car. This keeps me awake and engaged. Please continue and make more.
My husband, who’s Mexican, and I love your lessons. Helps me with Spanish, helps him to understand English better. We live in MX and are always sharing your vids with expats. Well done and muchísimas gracias, amigo! Que tengan un buen viaje.
Once again the native English speaker giving us tips on how to think about the Spanish in terms of English. This technique has helped me so much I feel like I'm finally getting over the hump that I've worried about for a couple of months now. Gracias maestro.
I'm glad it is working for you. I believe that the problem with the majority of Spanish courses is that they ignore that the students already speak a language. That language is their paradigm and they will naturally compare the new language with their own. How is it similar? How is it different? I embrace the fact that the students already know a language -- in this case English. I use that existing knowledge to help them learn the new language faster and explain the tougher aspects of the language in a way that an English speaker will understand. I guess I teach this way because I learned it on my own and this is what worked for me.
@@QrooSpanish My Mexican husband speaks English well but still makes mistakes. I can tell from those mistakes how you say something in Spanish. I already speak Spanish but still make mistakes, and I use his mistakes to remind me of how you say some things in Spanish. So that perspective is very helpful! (I have a book somewhere called something like “French for English Speakers.”)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! These videos that give us concrete and practical examples of how and when to use phrases that just DON'T translate sensibly in English are just SO, SO valuable in helping me to feel like I make sense when I'm trying to talk with Spanish speakers. Truly inspiring. 🙏🙏🙏
hey Paul. many thanks for simplifying subjunctive into simple steps and triggers. I am Scottish living in Scotland. Holiday in Spain twice a year. this will help me a lot. 😊
Hi Paul - I just want to say that the structure of your lessons is fantastic. In particular, the exercises in translating whole sentences is hugely beneficial as it requires you to draw upon things you've learned from other lessons and put it all together. As well as this, it is the true test of whether you have truly understood the concept being introduced. Keep up the good work!
Definitely enjoying the exercises in the videos for practice, followed by your explanations and things to notice, especially the nuances between English and Spanish. Please continue to make lessons about the subjunctive mode. Thank you!
First I want to say that the practical exercises are very helpful. I hope you continue to structure your lessons this way. As someone who is preparing to live part-time in San Salvador and has tried three other RUclips Spanish-teaching channels, I have found this one to be the best. I like the animated as well as the live lessons. Please keep them coming!
Bro thank you so much. I finally understand present tense subjunctive. I couldnt find any good resrouces that werent overly confusing. Yet i would hear these words and when i would ask my spanish native friends to explain vaya in english they couldnt explain it because it was simply natural to them.
I have been struggling with really understanding the subjunctive and I have to say that this is the most direct and clear explanation I've heard yet! I think I might FINALLY get it!! Thanks, Qroo!!! Your channel is awesome (and I'm loving Langua, by the way!).
Just happened upon your channel and I like the way you dissect sentences and explain how and why the conjugation occurs as it does, I would consider myself an almost advanced beginner so you are too far advanced for my learning but I still like watching and listening in the hope I take in something for the future, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Hi. Thank you for making your videos. They are very helpful indeed. The interactive exercises are very important for me. I cannot learn very much passively… and especially not a language! I have recently found your videos and they are encouraging to me to not let what I have learned thus far in Spanish go to waste, but to persist onward with Spanish. The excercises are very challenging and also helpful. It goes just a tad fast for me at this point, but that shows me what I need to work on, I guess…I am still learning off your videos, and this one in particular I found super helpful… Gracias, from a rusty Spanish language learner!
The exercises are superb! I can test my understanding and get practice and as you definitely know feeling you getting the pattern, and testing and having a chance to practice are two different things! Love the precise, but not wordy way that you explain concepts!
the subjunctive present is a handful for learners. 1st you have to learn rules, triggers, etc. 2nd you have to learn the conjugation of the verb. 3rd the conjugation of irregular verbs. So studying and practicing is a super must. quiero que vengas digas comas abras etc!!!!!!! Good Stuff
This is honestly the best explanation of the subjunctive that I personally have encountered. I’m not going to be able to watch your videos again for awhile and I hope when I return I find even more great videos like these
I love active listening exercises like what you did in this episode. One of my favorite channels offers this format almost exclusively. This means that I have a practiced hand in hitting the pause button and composing my response. Just listening while the teacher talks is great, but it doesn't require any thinking. Asking us to compose a response makes us think and gets our minds working. I think you have done a lot of hard work for a channel that people could not find. It was good work, but the thing about RUclips is the more hits comments and likes you get the more traffic gets driven to your site. I have really watched your channel take off, and you deserve it! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the feedback, Eric. It wouldn't be too difficult for me to incorporate exercises into the lessons. The hardest part is being quiet and still for a few seconds after saying a sentence -- I'm a bit attention deficit these days...lol. The sudden interest in this channel has certainly sparked my renewed interest in it as well. It has had over 190K views in the last 28 days. Last year at this time it had less than 8K.
@@Der_Ermahner HI Oliver, I would like to be of help here, but please understand that in my opinion it is very rude to promote another channel in the comments section of someone's channel. Using the comments section of someone else's channel in extreme cases can get you thrown off RUclips. For example I, myself have reported channels which post comments that have knowing to do with the channel I am on that contain offensive material, or have people doing this. This being said, the guy who's channel I am talking about has a strong British accent and I think between 150,000 and 200,000 subscribers. Like I said his video content consists almost entirely of him asking "how would you say...". You can be sure you have found him because he puts his text on a trade mark blue background. I think a lot of people on here know who I am talking about. Just about any content you are interested in learning on RUclips can be found for you by RUclips. For example do a search on "Spanish verb conjugation" and you will come up with plenty of great channels. Be sure to hit the Like button for the channels you like and to subscribe and if you really love a channel even hit the notification button so that you can be one of the first to see the new videos when they come out, but then go back and look at the old play lists for the channel and watch videos that have been up for years. The magic of RUclips will do the rest. It will find other videos like the ones you like for you in the suggestions. What I like doing is making up my own little play lists of my favorite videos. Soon RUclips will find all the great channels for you and even channels that are new and have few subscribers. So anyway, don't want to be rude here and hope my tips have helped but I would rather not use the comments section of Paul's channel to promote someone else's channel but I want to wish you all the luck in the world with your quest to learn Spanish.

This is the first time I have really understood this!!! And I lived in Panama for 3 years as a kid, minored in Spanish literature in college, lived with a family in Columbia for 3 months, and have owned a home in Mexico for 11 years now visiting at least 3 months each year. And I NEVER got this right! The problem was that since present subjunctive is rarely used in English, I did not have the basic building blocks to use it in conversation. Plus, this is not used that often in classic Spanish literature. THANK YOU!!! Very excited!

I'm glad to here that you found the video useful. The Spanish subjunctive is a challenge for most of us English-speakers because it is not an important "mood" in English. Good eye on noticing the shirt. :)
I just found your videos and I think they are great. I have been studying Spanish for almost 4 years and seem to be stuck. I even have a tutor. Some days are better than others. haha. I like lessons with exercises for me to practice. Thank you.
WOW! Mind blown! 🤯 I know you from you other videos. I saw one previous Spanish lesson and just caught these last two. I figured I'd eventually understand what the subjunctive was but this brought me so much closer in such a short time. Bravo Señor! I'll be heading back to the start to watch them all. Thank you. I have two years before I am living in a Spanish speaking place TBD. Or Malaysia. But probably Mexico or Colombia.

I'm glad to here that you found the video useful. The Spanish subjunctive is a challenge for most of us English-speakers because it is not an important "mood" in English. Good eye on noticing the shirt. :)
Muchas gracias para ejercicios ❤🎉
I just found your videos and I think they are great. I have been studying Spanish for almost 4 years and seem to be stuck. I even have a tutor. Some days are better than others. haha. I like lessons with exercises for me to practice. Thank you.
Welcome to the channel. I've been working on a beginner's course lately but I am about to start publishing more intermediate lessons.
GREAT lesson. I am learning a lot from your videos. Thanks, Joe G
Awesome! Thanks!
I like the exercises, this is a whole lot above what I am learning at this time, but I am writing things down and saving this video. Gracias
I am glad to hear that you found it useful. Thanks for watching. :)
Both methods are great. Please do Both.
Your fantastic teaher.
I can’t explain how understandable your videos are ❤
Glad you like them!
Me gusta tu estilo de enseñar. Los ejercicios son muy útiles.
Another great video Paul… I’ve made so much progress since I started using your videos!
That's great to hear!
Exellent method for teaching the subjunctive mood. Thanks
Thanks for watching.
I like the practice part too, it makes me think!
Love your channel
Thanks so much! 😊
WOW!
I'm glad you like the videos. The one I have planned next will build on this one and will hopefully give your Spanish a big boost. Take care.
I really enjoy your videos. Just wanted you to know that your hard work is greatly appreciated!
