    Thinking back, WandaVision worked so well because it was mainly just a character study of Wanda dealing with the trauma of losing the person she loved. It showed that the hardest hitting moments don't necessarily have to have a big action setpiece to build them.

    I really liked Moon Knight. 🤷‍♂️ Oscar did a great job, made me care about a character that wasn't "real," and it was a unique introduction to the character compared to others. Layla was cool, Harrow was an excellent villain... I had a great time with this series, really hoping they do another.

    It's really sad to see them all shit on Moon Knight. I really liked it and thought it was telling avery small scale, personal lowkey story, and that's not what they wanted. I feel like a lot of mcu fans have been spoiled by the epic nature of the climax of the last 5 years with the infinity saga. And for those people starting over again with some less marketable characters they don't want to know about new characters, they want more of the same. This review stank to me of them getting their hopes up for theories and a more epic crossover into the mcu, so when it wasn't they were dissapointed, just like Multiverse of Madness. I loved every second of Moon Knight and hope we get more of it. Top 10 for me easily.

  • @maddoggnick96

    I really liked this series, but I’m a biased fan of the character from the comics. I honestly like a lot of the changes for the MCU. I wish there was a bit more of Jake than just a tease, and I think the character needs one more season or film to get the three identities together. I also appreciate that this stands completely separate from the rest of the MCU.

    It was always a big worry for me when Marvel Studios decided to go from just 2 movies a year at the most to what is now 4 movies & 5 tv shows a year not just from a 'superhero fatigue' POV, but from a simple quality control standpoint. Such rapid expansion has pros & cons and some of those cons for me have been issues with the quality of both the storytelling & vfx of the movies and shows of Phase 4 so far! Hope I'm wrong, but it seems that as long as these projects continue to do relatively well financially & critically, Feige & Co are less likely to aggressively tackle this issue! Maybe even a slight scaling back to 3 movies & 3 shows a year might help address some of my issues, but can't see Disney/Marvel letting that happen :(
    Would love it if the writers of the Russo Bro's 4 MCU movies - Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (who were there since Cap America: The First Avenger) were in an MCU producer/script supervisory role for overall quality control (given the MCU's expansion), but they've taken their own break from the MCU ala Jon Watts to go do their own thing with the production company they set up with the Russo Bros.

    I am somewhere in the middle with this show. First episode was interesting, the next 3 were not great, but then the penultimate episode was fantastic (probably the best episode in any of those marvel shows). The finale wasn't bad, but still very rushed and generic.
    The performances elevated this by show a lot, but the general CGI issues and lacking cinematography for most of the show brought it down again. I'd put Wandavision and Loki above.

    6 episodes was not enough to fully flesh out everything in a timely and satisfying manner. However, I still enjoyed it, just wish it was treated a little differently by Marvel. Also, there's some bad writing and plot issues that annoy me, but Oscar Issac kills it and that alone makes it worth watching. I do hope we see either a season 2, or some movies that introduce him into the MCU at large.
    Also, we need to see more actual Moon Knight on top of the greatness that was Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke's performances.

    I think Jake Lockley is R-rated, and making a second season 18+ would justify it and reignite any lost hype. It's also the only good reason not to show Jake beating Harrow, but I still wish MK just transitioned to a third suit, with the audience seeing whatever Layla saw, without fully explaining it until the post credits.
    It doesn't shock me that Marvel pitched the show to Isaac with the spec scripts of episodes 1 and 5. The show had a great start and concept for the structure, and they knew where they wanted to leave things with the characters. But the generic Mummy/Indiana Jones episodes in the middle accomplished very little for me.
    Lastly, in regards to the Layla/Tawaret hallway scene, I personally liked it a lot. For those that didn't - May Calamawy said in an interview that the scene wasn't planned. Diab pitched it to her 30 minutes before shooting, then Calamawy just watched the Tawaret actress for a few minutes in a trailer and imitated her performance. To me, it just makes the collaboration in creating Tawaret between the actresses and CGI team more impressive.

    i really did enjoy the show but wish it could have been at least 1 or 2 more episodes longer, the idea of putting the shows up for a certain time to match up to movie release I feel is hurting this idea of the MCU D+ shows. my top 3 are loki, MK, and WV because all of those shows feel the most like a story from the comics but with comics they have issues on issues to explain & show everything, with the shows (mostly moon knight) is feels like like they are more focused on setting things up for the future (WV was dr strange 2, loki is ant man 3) i really enjoyed what Oscar Isaac did for the characters and how he portrayed them and giving us a character that you care about which is hard now adays with so many marvel characters getting the spotlight and i'm really hopeful for a season 2 but if/when it happens i want to see them go full in with the craziness (very much hinted with jake and the killing of people) and just focus on making a good show and not trying to figure out how we can team ups or crazy cameos.

    as a huge moon knight fan from the comics I was disappointed with this. there were some cool moments to see portrayed in live action (him getting saved by khonshu for one) and it’s always fun seeing how they adapt stuff. I love what they did with Layla as a replacement for Marlene, I just wish we got to see why she’s with Marc rather than just being told about it like some of you guys mentioned in the episode reviews.
    I can’t watch or read press anymore for these shows. I just feel like there’s such a disconnect between what they hype up and the actual product. I don’t know why that is and why the movies don’t *really* have that same phenomenon, at least not to the same degree. especially after MoM, this was not “dark” at all really. I’m going to have to watch it again before I officially review it, but I’m not really looking forward to it and that’s a shame!
    eta: I will disagree and say I think it got better in the final two episodes. outside of being rushed, I didn’t hate the finale. I also have to disagree with some comments here and say I was expecting their exploration into DID and mental illness to be even bigger seeing as how they really leaned into that during press interviews. I thought it was handled really well! but I was just expecting so much more out of every aspect of this. needed to be turned up to 11, really commit.

      As a huge moon knight fan from the comics i was elated with this. Streamlined him, kept some of the most important thematic beats while still having room to explore the rest, amazing characterization, great cast.
      Honestly all the criticisms for this show I keep seeing sounds like people didnt actually care to watch it as it is. Yet another example of people building up their own expectations for 'MCUs first show character' and then being disappointed because the bad fanfic story they built up for themselves wasn't what they got. I couldn't care less about 'oooh the titular character appeared 2 times in the show'. Fuck that Marc and Steven were infinitely more interesting. The lesson iron Man set up and evwry subsequent movie followed is that the human and the superhero are one and the same.

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis 2 года назад +1

      @@papajcina Agreed. I personally didn't care that "the suits" only tallied x-amount of screen time. All the character stuff with Marc & Steven more than carried the show for me personally. Moon Knight himself was a cipher for the action, but the meat of the story was really around Marc & Steven having this journey of self-discovery & acceptance of their respective situations. That's way more compelling to me than any fist-fight, werewolves, and battles among gods. Granted, I'm cool with those things too, but I just really was in on this series from jump. Hot take, it's probably my favorite of the Disney+ series so far.

  • @JakeyChappers
    @JakeyChappers 2 года назад

    Fuck I enjoyed it. episode 5 was the best in the series. Isaac and Hawke are the reason the show is the way it is I think, more of a character story than action heavy. Reason I say this is the producer did and interview recently and said “we decided to do a rich character study to really interest Oscar and get him in”. So I imagine him and Hawke wouldn’t have joined for just another action heavy superhero story
    I disagree that MK should appear in a team-up project next, there’s still way too much going on with Marc and Steven not knowing about Jake who’s working with Khonshu. How do you give that time and develop it in something that isn’t focused on MK?

    Bummed to realize that phase 4 is kind of a huge dud. I understand it’s hard to top the catharsis that came with wrapping up phase 3 but almost all of those movies are good. Black Widow, Eternals, Shang Chi and almost all of the shows are very sub par. Wanda Vision started so promising and then culminated into something generic. Spider-Man scratched a nostalgic itch but was a poor script that really leaned on your nostalgia for enjoyment. Dr Strange is the most fun I’ve had with phase 4 and it’s not even a very good movie. I know Thor is gonna blow them all out of the water. I just wish their plan for the overarching story was a little more clear and concise.

    I agree that they should have shown the fight with Harrow, I think part of the reason they skip it is to tell you this personality is hyper violent, but still want to keep it Disney so just let your mind fill in the gap rather than show a bunch of killing or gore, or tone down the fight to keep it PG. Not saying I like the choice but that may have been a factor.

    The thing that would be disappointing, in the future, about this show is if in season 2 they make all the shit from season one make sense. Meaning season 1 did the whole black out, Jason Locke, thing for action scenes and the final battle, but it doesn't visually pay those moments off by showing them. It would be super cheese balls if season was them filling in those gaps.
    It's way to cheesy of a meta, that Disney would be leaning on way to hard.
    Explaining the weakness in the Death star in Rouge One, cool. Retroactively making Age of Ultron a cool middle chapter to the infinity stone story, cool. But this gimmick loses it's novelty if you can see it coming.
