The ants were the ants from the lab. I thought that was obvious when Scott smashed the ant farm while he was shrinking and whenever Hank touched his ear piece after arriving in the Quantum Realm I knew they were setting it up.
100%
I didn't connect the two even tho I knew the ants would be there at the end. I thought maybe there would be a "Hank is old" subplot with the hearing aid but I guess he's always had it.
Exactly. They got sucked in and started building.
@@pargatsinghlives yeah from reason I thought the same thing lol but then I remembered he wears that in Ant Man 1 and 2 to communicate to the ants and not to hear lol
It was very obvious, and in fact, Nick even mentions the ants being sucked into the quantum realm in this video but instantly forgets it somehow.
Tim needs to add a “written by” trivia part. Writers get very little love. On top of that it would have informed Andy that the writer of this is a Ricky and Morty writer.
M.O.D.O.K. is the one who sucked them into the quantum realm. He said Cassie's signal was how M.O.D.O.K. found them
oh man thank you....I was yelling at the screen haha
THANK YOU!!
Yeah but he only sucked them in when she pulled the plug
Josh Brolin started playing Thanos in GotG. He wasn’t in the post credit he was in the film proper. Thanos had the “ill do it myself” post credit in Avengers Age Of Ultron.
To be fair to Tim, he's only seen and discussed these movies 9 million times
Right, I was thinking “there was a whole scene in the first guardians where Thanos was talking to Ronan”
Right? It bothered me so much when Tim tried to correct Nick, but he was WRONG. Nick was right, they gave Kang more to do in our first exposure to him than Thanos. That being said, it actually may have hurt the character. Thanos was teased and slowly shown more and more, the anticipation was built up over the entire saga. Whereas Kang, we only get an episode of Loki and then this.
@@jaybe2k12 Honestly everyone has a very skewed rose colored perspective on the MCUs first 3 phases. They think everything was planned out to a tee the minute they made Iron Man. Nothing could be further from the truth. Thanos bookending Avengers 1 was an interesting afterthought Whedon put in. They honestly didn’t know if Thanos was going to be the villain in Avengers 2 or some other film. Because of how well the entire thing came together in Endgame people forgot & forgave many things about the phases that didn’t work or weren’t nearly as cohesive as people think.
The thing people are missing is that Kang and Thanos are nothing alike. The scary part of Kang isn't just one of him it's the infinite versions of him working together and against each other at the same time. That's the Avengers level threat of him
Right. It took an entire army to stop one Kang. It feels damn near impossible to think The Avengers could take on an infinite number of Kangs.
For once, an intelligent army.
Exactly! Between the actor and the setup I honestly think Kang is poised to outdo Thanos because he is human with wants & desires audiences can relate to. I think his Achilles heel will be Ravonna Renslayer from Loki, Kangs one true love.
We didnt miss that. We just dont like that. If 2 kang's can just be stabbed and die, I feel like the avengers would have no issue taking on multiple kangs
@@saycheese121 Kang at the end of the day is just a normal human, his power comes from technology and planning ahead. In Loki he was apathetic and ready to die, in this his suit and equipment were damaged.
For the end of this, I did exactly the Nick thing of "oh wow, Hope and Scott are trapped in the quantum realm, this is gonna be the conflict of their next movie and what are they gonna do and- ohp, nope they're just back"
My favorite part was that the ants lived for 1000 of years made a civilization
I actually really like the ants at the end, they were obviously manipulated to be smarter by Hank at the beginning so it was kind of a dead give away they were gonna come back at the end Chekhov's gun style, but besides that I also thought visually it looked cool. I also got that icky feeling when you see bugs or a swarm and start getting itchy like they're on you lmao.
Tim placing this 14 places lower than Love and Thunder is absurd.
This was the third AntMan movie... going in with expectations of a top 10 Marvel film is on you and not the fault of the film.
Their ranking sucks, even Eric checked them on it and they nothing to say but we know.
Love and Thunder is should be even lower then Dark World... What a terrible movie!
The rankings have been a joke since for a while, they also ruined it by including the shows
I LOVE that it came down to a straight-up brutal fist fight at the end. That solidified for me that Kang is not to be trifled with, and I do not have a doubt in my mind that he'll be back. I actually thought for half a second that Scott wasn't coming back from that
I gotta be honest: Tim makes absolutely no sense in this In Review. like, why is he talking about the release placement of the film? it literally doesnt matter at all. who cares?
he clearly wanted something from the movie that it was obviously never going to be, nitpicking everything and just doesnt make sense at times
(also, i think you guys made the ad free version public by mistake lol)
I think a lot of points in this movie flew over their heads and they will appreciate it more later down the line
The weird thing is i agree with almost all their problems with the movie, but i can look past a lot of it(not all tho) and enjoy what im seeing
@@kylemelendez358 I’m in the same boat I just think the guys are having MCU fatigue
watched this on shrooms. i apologize to everyone in the theater for laughing at this movie so frequently. the beginning visuals for the end credits were so dope! "a lot happened today"
Thank you, Andy and Tim talking some sense. I don't know where all these Modok fans came from? How else do you expect them to pull him off? This was the perfect live action version of a joke character that can be a one off villain.
Yet comic book films have pulled off a talking raccoon and a tree... Not even a modok or MCU fan, but this comment makes very little sense
I wouldn't say it was perfect. I think the special effects were a total fail but the idea of making him a joke was the best idea
@@zaneplatt3533 a silly protagonist is easier to pull off than a silly villain though. As soon as a movie asks you to be intimidated by a silly character the natural reaction is to laugh.
@Ismael Martinez the film never asked you to be intimidated, that's the whole point.
Thank you! MODOK was never going to work as a serious villain in the proper MCU. This origin and depiction is frankly far better than his original in comics, less convoluted and ties directly to the Ant-Man franchise.
Tim with the Hank and the ants part you say is there anybody who thinks its cool, yes i did i thought the visual of hank looking like a wastelander in a sea of ants was absolutely incredible and while i also dont like the story reason why this happened i dont think its as big a deal as some ate making it seem i just take it as they wanted a moment with hank here and it absolutely hit for me.
Kang's scariest aspect might be quantity, instead of a singular quality like Thanos. That's what will make (them) hard to beat.
Just a heads up, Cassie’s machine let Modok track them. And modok or Kang triggered the event to “suck them in” to the Quantum Realm
Literally, THIS Modok was tracking that signal because Kang ordered him too. That’s crazy that they think that Kang wasn’t behind sucking them in the quantum realm or even Modok for that matter cause he said he was doing it all For Kang,
Shit Kang was using Modok for his information on Scott and his Family it was essentially Cassie’s Mistake that got them found in the first place.
Didn’t MODOK literally say “it was all because of your signal Cassie”?
@@CrowTRobot That he was able to track and locate them. He created them sucking in tho
@@CrowTRobot fresh out the movie, yep, he did. Having not yet watched the In Review but read a few comments, I'm worried these guys might be overthinking way too many things and missed more obvious ones lol
Tim's complaints are weird. It was never meant to be endgame 2 it's an Ant Man movie. Seems his expectations ruined the movie for him. The placement complaint is weird too like why would this need to be before eternals. You aren't Igor or Feige just have fun my man
I took the power source situation as the other kangs destroyed it before they banished him. And didn’t think he would be able to fix it.
This is just my interpretation of how the Quantum Realm works, but I thought you shrink and shrink and shrink until you git a certain point where you transfer over to the Quantum Realm which isn't necessarily small it's just how you get there. The Quantum Realm is essentially its own universe with its own rules. Again maybe I'm wrong and regardless they probably should've talked a little bit more about how it worked.
Also I'll say it: I liked the future ants. Is it stupid? Absolutely. Is it just a Rick & Morty idea taken seriously? 100%. But the shot of them just flooding the city like fucking World War Z is awesome, like they were kinda scary. Also some people say that they nerfed Kang by allowing the ants to essentially be his downfall, but I think those people are grossly underestimating how powerful an army of a million Zombie Terminator ants really could be.
I didn't vibe with review of this movie. I have theory for a while now is that everyone's taste buds is blown out form so many super hero movies, more specifically so many marvel superheroes movies.
Marvel Superhero movies developed it's own language during phase 2 and 3. These simple story beats that are bolstered by big reveals and surprises.
Like Thor Ragnarok having simple story introduction of small character then dropping Jeff goldblum, then small characters, followed by the Hulk and by then well into act two and can move the story along.
Ant-man sort of dose that as well, it just we seen it before so if you are watching these movies for those moments they aren't going to hit the same because your taste buds are blown out. It feels like people are starting to watch these movies like E3 presentation. Just chasing the dragon of the "Get Hype"moments to make them feel something from these movies anymore.
I also think we are going to see some pallet cleansing movie about a superhero who dose nothing super and people are going to think it's the best superhero movie. It's gonna be like Superman movie but it's all Clark Kent just doing regular shit in Kansas and dealing with family drama. A Logan ish type movie. And people are going to think it's a Revelation because of how grounded it's going to be.
Anyway, I loved Ant-man. It shared my politics of helping the little guy, over coming a fascist government through mutual aid and shared struggle, quips about socialism, the sci-fi sci-fantasy, though experiments and how love collapse all reality into single focus and can over come anything. 8/10. I like when these marvel movies fall into the Ms. Marvel side of story telling.
No War but The Ant …er uh Class War
I really enjoyed this movie.
I fucking hate M.O.D.O.K. usually and they nailed it. It's exactly what they had to do with him.
I've always liked Kangs story but not his character design. He looked great here. And Majors was great.
The humour hit me a lot more consistent than Love and Thunder.
My biggest problem with the film is how much you have to suspend your disbelief. It's so silly and barely explains much. And that's probably cause you can't really explain much and it make sense.
I loved this movie, it was a fun time, with a great villain, its a shame so many didn’t really like it all that much
Im floored by the reaction, usually even though I disagree I can understand why people feel a certain way about a film, like with Thor Love & Thunder which I like, but the reaction to this and Eternals are baffling to me. I feel like I watched a different film!
@@langleymneely Exactly, obviously not all the films are going to be near perfect, but i just think people expect an Endgame/infinity war level film every time a new one comes out
Found it enjoyable, I don’t have much urge to rewatch it but didn’t find it bad by any means
tim’s off his game hard this episode.
got nit picky about being a marvel nerd and nick outshowed him twice on the thanos topic lol
josh brolin was thanos in guardians 1 when he was talking w ronin, as well as the end credits for AOU.
Tim: “I hate to stop and correct you, I’m the marvel nerd.” Also Tim: “no that wasn’t Josh Brolin In Guardians.” 🤦♂️
Idk why Tim think he’s the law of this stuff when he is actually wrong a lot of the times
"We're storming the capital!" - Nick Scarpino
David Dastmalchian was on a Kevin Smith show once and described how to pronounce his name. It's David "this small chin." It was Fatman on Batman, if you want to look it up.
YES! That’s how I learned to pronounce his name too!! Duh Small Chin! 😜👍🏾
Andy is killing me with the "scaht! I'm Michael dahglas scaht!"
A quick minor correction: Tim said it's the 41st MCU project, which leaves out the Marvel TV-produced MCU stuff. So this would be the 41st Marvel Studios project.
(And while people like to argue about it online because of the lack of communication between Marvel Television/Marvel Studios and the lack of references in the films, everything like Daredevil, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Cloak & Dagger were announced as being MCU and Marvel Studios has not decanonized them, as Disney did with the old Star Wars EU stuff. And now that we're seeing characters like Daredevil come back -- with strong rumors about Jessica Jones and Quake -- it's not looking like they plan on throwing anything out yet.)
And now I will end this comment with reminding everyone to watch Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because they still, to this day, sit alongside the best MCU films.
It’s just one line so it’s understandable that each person missed this. They were arguing about why would they send Kang down with his power source they sent him down here but sabotage the power source so it wouldn’t work. Not expecting someone down there to be able to repair it. Which is why on the mid credit scene they’re so concerned about humans being a threat.
Why does it say ad free then we get a ad at 35:56? Just wondering?
Going to see this in a few hours here in the UK, will be back soon to here what the gang says :D
This trio is magic for an In Review
Plot hole: Janet used multiple growing Pym particles to grow Kang's battery. Particles that she could of used to grow herself years ago an escape
That’s not how it works. They say this in first two Antman movies.
@@CrowTRobot That's how he gets out in the first movie. Litterally puts a growing disk in his belt
She's so deep in and so small that that many disks wouldn't have gotten her out. It didn't grow the battery out of the Quantum Realm.
She used 1 to get in that deep. The suits are regulator based.
I like you're argument about the battery not growing out of the quantum realm. Things just grow as much as the plot wanted I guess.
I it just seems like she could of gotten out or at least grow alot 😂
Another thing I find weird is that she was perfectly fine with Scott taking the risk of going back in in the second movies post credit scene but now no one should enter 😂
My favorite In Reviews are were Nick says he likes the movie and than spends the entire In Review crapping on it. Did not disappoint but this movie sure did.
If the different Kang variants aren't some of the main villains in some of the bigger movies they will have messed up I think.
It would be so cool if Jonathan Majors is the main villain for like 4 films but all as very different versions of Kang would he so cool.
I honestly think between Loki, Kang Dynasty and possibly F4 we are going to see this. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Kang variant that helps the Avengers at some point.
I really enjoyed it. Better than the last few Marvel movies.
Yeah for real! Thor 4 was awful
Naw Hank pym with the ants at the end was hype asf, come on 😂
I interpreted that the WASP of the title was Janet not Hope.
Good catch!
MODOK pulled them into the Quantum Realm because Kang was having him track Cassie's signals. Also the ants were the smart ants from the lab in the beginning and were pulled in with the characters. I thought the movie was okay, it wasn't meant to be a big event movie, it's just sort of goofy and fun
It was josh brolin in guardians, he had a couple of short scenes and the post credits scene. The CG design was different though.
Andy keeps mentioning Rick and Morty but he doesn't know that the sole writer of this movie also wrote for Rick and Morty season 4 and 5
That's hilarious 😂
A thought: we did see quantumania - in Kang... as well as the aftereffects for Janet. A huge part of this story seems to be about the effect of exile.
I wish they would have made The Wasp Name something that everyone knew in the quantum realm instead of Janet’s name, like it would’ve made more sense for her to go by her Wasp Name to be more impactful as well as giving her a wasp suit to have a mother daughter Wasp adventure in the movie to match Scott and Cassie
Really enjoyed the movie ans LOVED all of the Kang stuff except when he’s overwhelmed by ants.
Honestly I was just waiting for Andy's SPOT ON Michael Douglas
Rick Scarpino? Oh snap. Check his pockets for a Multiverse Portal Gun!!!
Damn this whole episode needs its own "You're Wrong" lol
I’m 12 minutes in and loving it, but boy do I feel bad for any non KF fans who stumble on this lmao. Super Bowl beef, Andy and Nick riffing, KF styles. Is this the KF Podcast 😂
Ping Island theme from Life Aquatic = 🏆
Where's the sound at?
----it's cool now
It’s about on par with Love and Thunder but with jokes I thought were funny or not as cringe. Which is weird because I usually find Taika humour hilarious. 3/5 but it’s a low 3
We had plenty of time with Kang in this movie. For me the issue here is chemistry. I just didn’t feel anything! Especially when you look at new Cassie. I don’t buy her anger and that connection feels false
MODOK is my new favorite Avenger guys ❤😊🎉
YOU HAVE DR. STRANGE 1 AND M.O.M. RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. HOW?!
I really liked the movie. I don't ever watch them with an idea of where within a phase it is, so the fact that this was the start of phase 5 doesn't bother me.
Nick is right. The joke is that Modok is a dumb looking character. The joke isn’t that the CG is bad. There’s no way they intentionally made a bad CG effect for a joke. It’s like the Mouth of Sauron on the extended edition of Return of the King. It was suppose to make him seem scary and intimidating but the effect took away from that and it was more distracting than anything else. That’s what Nick is saying: the bad CG distracted you from what was suppose to be a funny thing.
The mouth of Sauron is awesome
The ending picture has me xD
Josh Brolin has played Thanos the entire time guys… in like every movie
I stopped watching the MCU, just think there was too much content coming out and the quality of the products weren’t there for me and it became a chore to get through them.
Love the in reviews - keeps me up to date in case I wanted to jump back in at some point.
I thought Scott and Hope were going to be stuck in the Quantum Realm with Cass taking over and trying to bring them back. Kinda think I would have preferred that to be honest
Like with Eternals I really don’t get the reception to this, I liked this better than the second Antman film, which I loved. Great film for me.
Can't wait to see where this falls in the List. Loved the movie Weird, wacky, fun, interesting Movie
I’ll be honest, I totally thought they were gonna kill ant man. I got those vibes from the trailer. And dead set I really wish they did that, it would’ve been a really bold move in making kang seem to be a big threat. I was surprised he lost in the end. Then again I suppose there are many variants of him. Enjoyed the film quite a bit and kang was dope, but there were some pretty loose plot moments I thought
What guitar is Andy playing?
Josh Brolin was definitely in the first Guardians.
This movie is fucking horrendous lmfao it's in "so bad it's good" territory though, I was laughing at it (not with it) most of the time
Dam their take on this movie and Moon Knight hurts my soul
thought that this was maybe the best mcu movie since endgame?? so conflicted on how it stands up to the spider-men but def enjoyed more than black widow, dr strange or any of the disney+ shows
Two man fist fight is way better than a CGI blender fight.
Idk what the hang up is on the ants at the end thing. I thought it was pretty cool. Bit of a deus ex machina, but it didn't feel super out of place. We saw the ants shrink down with them in the beginning and we know time is weird in the quantum realm. Thought it was a cool combination of what we know from the Ant-Man corner of MCU which is ants and trippy quantum shit.
My main complaint is that Scott, or any main character, doesn't have an arc. Scott doesn't care until his daughter tells him to care. Cassie herself starts out wanting to help people but doesn't grow after that. Everything just happens and there wasn't a personal connection.
Hank with his Ants is my favorite part of the movie
Isn’t 2 the majority so as of now it takes the 23rd slot, if Greg rates it anywhere above Hawkeye it will get the 22nd spot and any lower would bring it to the 23rd spot
Scott actually visited the quantum realm to help out their “new friend” ghost at the end of Antman. Janet van Dyne was there and was okay with it all. Suddenly for this film, she swears against going to it for the sake of the plot.
She sent Scott to a safer neighborhood of the Quantum Realm
@@vinnybastos yah, even in Ant-Man and The Wasp she tells them to avoid the time vortexes or whatever she called it. In this movie she tells Hank that they never looked deep enough into the quantam realm to see all that there was
Nick missing the joke 😂
How have you forgotten about thanos?
He was a key player in GOTG. He has Ronan steal the power stone.
Tim, you keep making this mistake -- the character is named Luis (rhymes with 'new lease'), not Louis. I'm surprised Andy never corrected you. Also, Loki borrowed the Chitauri army from Thanos. Second time editing this comment now, just popping in to say that Tim is wrong again, and that Josh Brolin was Thanos in GOTG Vol. 2.
Thank you! I was screaming at my tv at both of these things! Lol
Tim was wrong about so much it’s aggravating
@SikGamer I take everything Tim says with a grain of salt. The only thing he loves with no exceptions is the Fast and thr Furious movies
went to a Thursday night premiere for Ant Man and when the movie ended there was silence, I thought this was very telling of the kind of mixed emotions this movie leaves the audience with. Early screenings typically draw out vocal, enthusiastic crowds and the only reaction I caught from the showing I was at was a very loud wtf when we get the first end credit scene with the different kangs.
Thanos was in Guardians 1 a decent bit. And yes it was Josh Brolin. Hello, Tim? Calling himself a die hard Marvel fanboy? 😂
Evageline Lile-“there is just no please these people”
The portal should've closed trapping both kang and scott. Scott says something dumb and heroic. kang snaps scotts neck. Hope, casey, hank and janet watch the portal close and say "oh no scoooottttt" or something like that. Kang stands over scotts body, takes his shrinking tech from his suit. Holds it in his hand and menacingly looks around. Movie ends. My preferred ending instead of " we beat kang with pew pew cannons"
I'm a diehard MCU guy and I thought this movie was entertaining as hell. Thank God I don't watch movies with an over critical eye like these dudes.
I thought this movie was great mostly
they said she read hanks journals, and then were also working on this
No audio 😔
Cassie talked about hating trust fund kids. Made me think of Kate bishop & those two sharing the screen will be so electric with Florence Pugh. MCU is awesome
Did y’all watch this on a 32 inch TCL? Thought this looked great in Imax & the sound design is used to let you know when they’re big & small
No sound?
Disappointed to hear you guys shitting on this movie. For me? First time I ever wanted to see Ant Man in theaters.
I agree that there were three common movie writing problems:
- character knows about danger but doesnt warn anyone
- character is so chaotic good that they make a shit ton of problems that other people have to fix and they still don't learn anything
- hoping around too much in a story
But that didnt make it NOT enjoyable. This was fun and a great intro to one version of a an army of a guy that they're going to have to fight with.
The weirder Marvel gets, the more interested I become.
Andy I was so moved by that emotional guitar man
My thing with the movies VS the comics is that the movies are only based on the comics. I'm totally fine with all the changes to M.O.D.O.K, and honestly I really did enjoy it. This is honestly my favorite Ant-Man so far. I was seriously disappointed in Love & Thunder and Wakanda Forever, but this was the first Marvel project I've liked in a while
This was the best Star Wars movie I have seen in a while.
Play the Ant evolution scene for more laughs. Saying it straight forward was unintentionally dumb funny. But cut to a visual representation of their time, with Luis explaining how the Ants fell into a time vortex. Give us an Ant society having a Renaissance, and then Industrial Revolution. Lean into the absurdity.
I agree with the general sentiment.
It is not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, it's an overhyped movie that's just... good which, in MCU standards, makes it forgettable.
On the topic of MODOK's CGI, I wonder if they deliberately made him look unrealistic because of the unease of body horror that a more realistic take would have created.
Nick is right, he can stop people with his suit outside of jail because he did it to Janet when she tried to run to Hank in the crashed ship
This was the closest thing the MCU has had to a so bad it's good movie.
I think the ending was lame as hell because they probably added it later after they realized no one thought Kang was intimidating.
So instead of showing it, they wrote in the script literally "uh he is not coming after me is he? these people are all NOT going to die right?" which was pretty pathetic, maybe dont have the villain of your new saga be beaten by Ant Man of all heroes in his first appearance?
You have to remember though, this Kang was exiled and stripped of all his tech and weapons.
I'm going to watch this for the same reason I saw Black Adam: I want to know why everyone's divided on it.
1:08:41 man I felt that.
