      @@chrislws7 In the Earth X comic line he is (not mainline Marvel universe/comic so grain of salt and all that), but he feeds off the celestial seeds and acts as a predator to the celestials. Eternals should've been a D+ show IMO. We got a little bit with every character, but I felt we missed out on really connecting with them and fleshing out their relationships, their changing mindsets, as well as giving the story enough time to develop. Towards the end things would happen and only afterward we were given an explanation of what happened and why it happened. I think more time would have smoothed out these problems a little more.

    • @radiospines

      The CG required would've been too expensive for a 6 to 10h show

    • @philosopher1912
      @philosopher1912 2 года назад +2

      Yeah, or a two-parter. First one would've been seeing them around the history, seeing how they had fought the Deviants and helped humanity. We could've also get some really cool character development there, and it would've been a good build-up for part two.
      Part Two could essentially be this movie. We wouldn't need the flashback sequences, not so much exposition, and certain events would've been more exciting.
      SPOILERS BELOW:
      If this had been a two-parter, Ajak's death would've hit a lot harder if we would've already gotten some character for her. I feel like it would also help understanding the characters and the pacing better.

    I really dug this movie, and I think seeing Dune not long before helped that. For an MCU film that has all new characters, I liked a lot of the exposition that explains where they fit in the universe. I’m sure people will look back on this as something similar to Age of Ultron - meaning it sets up a lot of plot points for future projects, but I like it’s artistry as a self-contained film.

    Did Nick say he didn't like the flashback stuff & thought there should be less of it? I thought the opposite. It really makes absolutely no sense to me how so many critics gave more negative reviews for this movie than Thor 2. And yet audiences score it so high. I get that it’s not for everyone but seriously it doesn’t deserve this amount of negativity.
    However, given how so many countries around the world are banning this movie because it depicts a gay married man as one of the main characters and how this is also the most diverse cast of any Marvel movie yet, maybe that is the actual reason. I mean RT confirmed that a lot of “fans” review bombed this movie before it came out because it depicted a gay man as a main character.

  • @xvizion
    @xvizion 2 года назад +4

    The villains were easily the biggest letdown for me because they squandered two very good conceptual antagonist by trying to do both. Deviants becoming cognizant of what's happened to them and how the Celestials made them and now want them exterminated? Great dig deeper on that, especially considering the Eternals are in a similar boat of being used. Ikaris being a blindly loyal soldier, but also still loving his family and not wanting to hurt them, also great show that more too. Instead we got both half assed with not a lot of time dedicated to them and in the end one is literally used as a random distraction for Thena and the other was short changed to his inner conflict was less impactful.
    I know re-writing a movie after seeing it is boring and pointless, but they had a really good opportunity to make both work with changes. Have cognizant Deviant show up earlier and drive the plot and story forward. Have them fight it and it reveals the truth about Arishem and Ikaris betrayal, causing them to question what they want to do. Then go forward with that and them individually coming to terms with whether they agree or not. Or just commit to one enemy completely because there's a great story individually as well.
    Overall I wasn't a big fan, it was alright, but it also took a lot of big swings too so I respect it for that.

Like the planet will be destroyed but billions of other life will come from it. But the have the ability to possibly stop it, and should they do it but stop “nature” from making billions of lives down the road just to save humans. It’s a real conversation to be had with current day.

Both of their goals were aligned at that point, they both wanted to stop Icarus, but Thena needed revenge for Gilgamesh after they used so much of the move and her arc setting up that side plot. All the time she spent being compromised would’ve been for nothing if they didn’t pay it off in some way. It was lacking in emotion and character development and it didn't have any clear villain or a protagonist I could relate to. The movie made the potential world ending event feel like a big "meh". SPOILERS
    .
    .
    .
    .
    I don't know, man I just feel indifferent about this movie. Don't really care about it either way. My problem is that I just don't buy the information that was given to me. Like, Arishem says he lost control of the deviants, don't buy it at all. You're this fucking all powerful, god-like being and you couldn't take them out yourself? He literally just comes to Earth himself in some black hole warp wormhole and just takes three eternals and dips. He just takes them with no problem. Why couldn't he just come to Earth and take the Deviants that had evolved and taken them out? Also, he created eternals specifically to take out the deviants who had evolved, why would you give the eternals free will who would be able to turn against you? Why doesn't he just make them literal robots who do one thing?
    Also, when the eternals killed the deviants the first time, why did Arishem take so God damn long to call them back home? I guess you could say there were still deviants left. But like, there were deviants frozen in ice? Really? None of the eternals had any idea about this in 7000 years? Don't buy it. Just don't.
    There are aalll these other eternals apparently on other planets who've been hatching celestials, and one thing I'm curious about is if none of the other eternals betrayed Arishem. Like, does this shit happen all the time, or was this the first time? Arishem is just really inefficient at this aspect of his job, bro. Lmaaaooo.
    When it said the Eternals would return, I kinda just didn't care and am not excited to see them again in future movies. I didn't really connect with any of them, except funny enough Kit Harrington's character, and he wasn't even in the shit. LOOOOL. To be fair, I just like Kit Harrington so there's that.
    The deviants and the consciousness? Fucking worthless. What a waste of time. That dude and all that amounted to nothing.
    Also, question. So do the celestials ACTUALLY give a shit about life, or is their sole purpose to create more celestials? Or is that just Arishem's purpose? Fuck it. Who even cares. I don't, personally. This movie was just kinda disappointing for me. I'd love to actually love it, but I don't, and I don't necessarily dislike it either. I enjoyed the visuals, the action was awesome, but unfortunately I did find myself bored. Reason being is because there are so many of these eternals, and I don't particularly care for any of them, so when stuff is happening I was just like, eh. Whatever, I guess. 🤷‍♂️ There that's it. 😅😂

    why did they never explain the main monster thing. It is just killed and never explained.
    It feels like they wanted it to be the main enemy but changed their minds half way through production.

    SPOILERS***
    I hated the sentient deviant storyline, it was so pointless and went absolutely nowhere. They could have cut that out of the movie and it would've been way better for it. The main storyline was actually way more compelling and they shoehorned in this terrible character just for a few action scenes.

    • @deshaunfortune912
      @deshaunfortune912 2 года назад +1

      Agreed. They could've had the absorbing thing never exist and only have them there for the sake of; 1. The Eternal's Existence and 2. Ikaris' scape goat. After the big reveal they could've finished them off, but even more than that I wish that they did something meaningful with the character. Hopefully, since Deviants aren't exclusive to earth, it comes back in a big way in a sequel.

      Better yet have Thena fight it long enough to show that she's beginning to heal from her illness and gain the upper hand in the fight, but before the finishing blow the Uni mind begins and that includes the deviant bc they absorbed 2 Eternals. There it empathizes with The Eternal's, and once Sersi has turned the Celestial to stone, the deviant sprouts wings and leaves the planet to liberate more of it brethren on other planets.

      @@deshaunfortune912 I feel like they got in their own heads about the generic bad guy punching bag trope and decided to craft a storyline out of it but then just ran out of time and it came to such an abrupt and unsatisfying ending. Your second reply is what I thought was going to happen! I really thought the deviant would realize that they've seen the truth now and fight with them and then go off on its own journey. Such a huge missed opportunity.

    _Eternals_ will be like _The Thing_ from 1982 starring Kurt Russell: critics of the time hated it, audience was divisive... and then decades later the movie is considered pretty good by a new generation who can't fathom how the previous generation genuinely seemed to think it was bottom of the barrel trash

    As someone that’s particularly critical of the MCU I’ve always felt none of the films are bad they are consistently okay, but with Eternals while I respected the ambition it just was a wet noodle for me. I didn’t feel for any of the characters and they all felt underdeveloped and emotionally similar. That said I appreciate the visuals of this film, you can feel Zhao’s presence here and they actually shot on film which was a treat to see.

    I really liked this movie. It wasn’t perfect. I liked all of the characters for the most part but some of the writing was off. Like, I get that they are trying to teach the audience the characters names but in a normal conversation when people are talking, you don’t end a statement or question with the person’s name.
    EX: “I can’t believe you’re doing this, KINGO” because remember his name is Kingo… in case you forgot.
    But other than that, I liked the plot, the celestial stuff was sick, the comedy was hit or miss like the rest of the MCU but it does land pretty frequently. A fun time!
    Of the same caliber as a Doctor Strange or AntMan, and that’s impressive considering the number of characters.
    last note is that I really like Barry Keogan’s acting. And I was impressed with Kumail’s because the trailer made me think I’d hate him but he was probably my favorite of the group. Oh and the super speed power in this was rad.

    I totally dug it. Im glad we are finally getting into this crazy cosmic world. This is the first marvel movie I felt i was the only understanding what was going on at the post scenes.
    I get the criticism of to much exposition, and I definitely believe if this was a 8 epsiode hour long series that leads into a movie. Than at least the movie wouldnt be weighed down by the back stories and exposition setup of the Eternals.

    My biggest pet peeve....why the hell are the celestials speaking English with a British accent? It's a giant alien space God that creates GALAXIES! Give me subtitles and do some kind of cool vocal mix where it's different languages layered on top of each other and mixed with animal noises or something where we clearly can't understand what it's saying but it somehow sounds familiar......you know....like u just did with the deviant when it was starting to evolve....DUH!

    • @darksteel913
      @darksteel913 2 года назад

      Why not? What's to say that they dont sound like some incomprehensible language and sound normally but they are so powerful that there voice manifest in a way the creature listening to in can understand.
      They use a similar concept with Galactus. Galactus only looks human because every sentient being perceives him as a form resembling their own.

Still I agree with Kevin that 10 years from now ppl will be looking back on this as the star of another saga. The RT score is baffling to me. I think it has pacing issues and A LOT going on, but it’s pretty damn good. The movie is gorgeous, extremely well acted, and the action scenes were shot very well. I think the ensemble is handled well for the most part and characters have tons of heart. The humor felt genuine and natural, and THE twist was well done. I felt for these characters.
    I do think the deviants are just pointless but I was expecting that. It’s different and tonally more mature. More positives than negatives for me.
    SPOILERS:
    The Icarus twist makes him one of the better villains of the MCU. I loved his final scene with Sersi, where he finally understood and felt what Ajak was talking about when she said “humanity changed me.” Very similar to Omni-Man from Invincible. He wasn’t a mustache-twirling villain. He let his beliefs and ideology blind him, which is also great subtext for today’s world about religion.
