Andy's comments about not underestimating the audience's ability to accept mediocrity is right on the money for THIS franchise, and right on the money for FAST & FURIOUS
I can see where Tim is coming from about Optimus but I was pleasantly surprised that this movie actually gave him an arc. It’s understandable why he doesn’t trust humans from the start but it’s satisfying to see him go through that change by the end. The Bay movies always felt like they maybe had an arc in mind but the script never actually followed through.
The only live action transformers movies I liked were Bay’s 1st and Bumblebee. Include this one in there. Very surprised how much I enjoyed Pete Davidson here. Anthony Ramos is a star. Likable human protagonists, the Transformers actually feeling like characters with some arcs, some great music in there, all making it feel like a Saturday morning cartoon in the best way. Some cheesy stuff in there but there’s also a bit of heart. Being in the 90s was like the best thing for this movie. It’s a fun time
I know she is busy with a much better franchise but man I missed Hailee Steinfeld. It shows that having a great actor who can carry scenes really helps.
It’s weird that the suit reminded you of Iron Man, because the second he started moving in it, it reminded me of those accelerator suits from G.I. Joe, which I’m sure was intentional.
Also, there is a Joe in the GI Joe movies, specifically the second one. You’ll recall the name of their group (while a full acronym in the movies) is named after General Joe Colton; said General is in the second movie.
It should be noted after the release of Bumblebee and its mediocre box office returns, the head producer of this franchise stated the sequel to Bumblebee would go back to the roots of what fans love and be closer to the Michael Bay films. A real shame they actually did that and that was one of the reasons why Travis Knight did not come back for this. They had a creative that actually understood the franchise and delivered and threw it away.
Watched Rise then went home and watched Bumblebee and the first Bay Transformers movie. Easily my favourite of those 3, they simplified the hell out of the elements of story here. No crazy amount of military showcases, the overabundance of sex jokes are gone, there's a minimal amount of humans on screen, the acting here is nothing great but i didnt hate watching either of them on screen. And the villian i actually liked, his demeanor and design were great. Well shot movie too. Directing wise was pretty okay. High 3 for me on the scale.
I don’t disagree with anything they said in this review but I had such a fun time with this movie. I don’t think it’s anything above a 7 and I honestly would rank it at 3 on their list.
I wouldn’t even say Optimus is Bay’s version in this - given that it’s in the 90s, they felt inclined to make him warm up to humans, I guess. I think the idea of giving Optimus an arc like that is interesting, but I’m personally more a fan of Optimus being such a just person before he left Cybertron, that when he finally meets humans, he’s already compassionate and understanding. In that sense, I actually think Bay’s version of Optimus was better than what we got here.
I don’t know what you guys are talking about I absolutely loved this movie. Leaps better than the bay movies as the only thing they got right was sound and action. This had the comedy/ tone and action that bumblebee had and more. That ending definitely has me curious and excited about where they go from here.
Let’s be clear - Andy’s right. Elena’s acting was pretty awful, and her kind of “bad acting” was less of phoning it in or disinteresting (like Wahlberg) and more of amateurism, which is why like Andy, I don’t super feel like ragging either, lmao.
This one was better than the Bay movies imo, not as good as Bumblebee but also fun. I am a little biased because the majority of the film is set in Peru and I heard Optimus Primal speak in Quechua and I believe Wheeljack is Peruvian (Despite the odd joke). I agree the Maximals got dirty.....only Primal and Airazor gets focuses and out of those only 1 we get a good look at this bot form.
You know, on the one hand I'm disappointed that they didn't even try to get Waspinator and Dinobot in this movie because they're my two favorite characters in the show. But on the other hand, there's no way this movie would've done either justice even if it was a flawless masterpiece. Also, can they please stop making Bumblebee mute and having Optimus' face plate come off? It was a stupid idea the first time they did it, it's a stupid idea now, and it'll be a stupid idea every time they do it.
Mostly agree with Tim. They didn't get it right and there's far too much Bay DNA in this one. Bumblebee was an opportunity for a bigger reset and they missed their chance. This is Michael Bay's Optimus Prime. I really wish it was highly moral TV dad Optimus Prime. I get that's not great for drama but that's who he is. Having said that, I don't need everything to be G1 accurate. Mirage can be a Porsche. It makes more sense than a racecar. The G1 cartoon had a weird mismatch of vehicles that didn't lend very well to disguise (Preceptor rolled out with the others as a giant tank-treaded microscope). And I don't care that Arcee didn't seem like her G1 self. Change things and adapt them if it makes a better movie. Accuracy doesn't really matter. The IDW comics changed a lot of things and it remains the best version of Transformers to date. (This Arcee is somewhat like a lighter version of her IDW self). Also not sure if it was mentioned but minor nitpick - Kris mentions that he can't beat Bowser on his Game Boy. Bowser wasn't in the Mario game boy games (unless he's playing Tennis or G&W Gallery, or some spin-off). Doesn't matter at all but, as a pedant, that stuck out.
I dunno where Tim go the idea that Beast Wars was the future or an alternate reality or whatever. It is set on prehistoric earth after the maximals get trapped there after traveling back in time. So yes they maximals are the future autobots. But it’s our earth, and the dormant autobots they discover are the original characters. Then they leave earth and go back home so there’s no time paradox etc.
You guys didn't have to do this today. Y'all could've gotten some rest after all you guys did this weekend and did this tomorrow. Appreciate the dedication, guys. Rest up when you can.
I am a passive Transformers fan, I bailed on the movies once Mark Wahlberg entered the mix. I saw Bumblebee begrudgingly and did not like it. I saw this movie because my family wanted to, I have no source knowledge of the beasts. I enjoyed it and had a good time. I was not looking for high art, I was looking for a dumb summer blockbuster. That being said, I agree it was very forgettable. It was not a Spiderverse level movie where I can’t stop thinking about it and wanting to rewatch it. I will likely not watch this again. I don’t get why Tim’s so confused about if this is in continuity with the Bay Transformers. The first Bay Transformers movie very clearly established that Optimus and most of the Autobots didn’t come to earth until the events of that movie. Bumblebee was there a little bit beforehand, but not THE 80s!
It's because Bumblebee ended with that dumb ass scene of changing from a Beetle to the Camaro from Transformers (2007). Why else do that unless they were trying to connect it to Bayformers? Then, sometime between Bumbler and Rise of the Beasts, they changed their tune about whether it's the same or new timeline.
@@AnimeNut in that scene Optimus is on earth, making it a new timeline. Also Bumblebee should be a Camaro, that’s way cooler of an alt mode than a vw bug
For the record between Marky Mark, Megan Fox and Dominique Fishback (Elena) only 2 of these actors are Oscar nominees… and of those 2 only Fishback actually played a character (in Judas and the Black Messiah) that had more than 3 lines of dialogue. I havent seen the film but I find it hard to believe Fishback gave a shitty performance, even in a dumb Transformers film? Lol
Saw this last night after it came to streaming. Beginning was a little slow but I still had a fun time! Also, when the talked about The Last Knight. I didn’t watch the movie or In Review, so that movie sounds wild! Merlin and Nazis in the same movie? Crazy!
I was so on board for the first act and then it just fell off a cliff for me. The acting got worse, story was whatever, but what was the worst, was that i was bored. Action was cool but not enough for me to leave with a positive experience. It was was the most 5/10 movie ever. dont regret watching it but also wouldnt recommend it. Tim I think u should rewatch it. First time I agreed with you but immediately on a rewatch it was a lot better. I think a lot of my disappointment was with expecting certain things to happen but then I started noticing it’s strengths. It’s got a shit ton of action between the robots. About 40 minutes actually. I agree. On second viewing, I enjoyed it a lot more. Not sure why but it just worked a lot better for some reason. I don't think any movie really deserves a second chance - every movie should work on first viewing. But, if you have time and it's economical enough, it's worth a rewatch. Home release is soon - July - so that's an option too.
Here was my review: this is the worst Iron Man movie yet, some cool older music drops, and deaths mean less in Transformers than Fast & Furious as the dead people come back 5 minutes later ugh just ugh 😂❤🎉
Glad I watched this before I wasted my money on a theater experience lol. Bummer they did Cheetor so bad man, I wish they had Rat-trap in there. I don't think I care about this cross over they want us to care about.
After this many Transformers movies these guys just have this idea in their heads for the movie they want to see, and every time they don't get exactly that, the disappointment overrides any fun they could possibly have. Which, to be clear, I do understand. However, I think this also means they need to stop. Because In Reviews like this are depressing.
How can they have the 1986 animated movie not number 1, WTF. That is insane. It is the only good movie and everything else sucks, including Bumblebee which was at least barely watchable compared to all the other live action ones.
I genuinely despised this movie. Bad acting, shoddy cgi, a story that made no sense, and somehow featuring the final act of justice league. Can’t believe that I’d ever miss the Bay movies. Curious to see how everybody else felt about it
You know I hate the saying “this isn’t MY such & such” Of course it’s not!! Stop being a fanboy or girl & Look at the medium as someone else’s interpretation of the specific art! These characters have been here for decades & will be here long after we’re gone because, amazing artists will take the characters in their own direction & if you don’t like it you go make a transformers or anything you connect with movie or comic!! Simple as that stop putting your feelings & what you want into something that caters to everyone!!
Tim you now have to force everyone to review the GIJoe movies cause “it’s all connected” 😂

I genuinely despised this movie. Bad acting, shoddy cgi, a story that made no sense, and somehow featuring the final act of justice league. Can’t believe that I’d ever miss the Bay movies. Curious to see how everybody else felt about it
I wanted to hear more of the R33 💦
I don’t think I like her
The general audience love mediocrity is such a lame obnoxious statement. This movie sucks but your not better than anyone guitar guy
Loved the movie! You guys are gonna say I’m insane but I enjoyed this more then Spiderverse legit 😬
Your not alone. I felt the same.
Yo I haven’t even seen it yet but Across is getting Overhyped
@@mc_dgames it deserves the hype. It's a visual masterpiece and amazing story
Ew
I thought they would of loved it as much as i did smh im disappointed.
You should go outside and take a deep breath.
@@Nbz0 Do you have anything insightful to say instead of a smart ass comment?
