Hugo Weaving didn't say he hated the movies. He said Bay had a distant and clinical directing style, remarking on the fact that he had worked on multiple movies without even really meeting Bay, and Bay was so offended he told him he would never work in Hollywood again, which was unintentionally charming to me, as Weaving overtly prefers working outside of Hollywood.
This was perhaps demonstrated best when Cullen expressed dislike for some of the lines he had him saying, and instead of stopping and asking him why and maybe learning more about the character of Prime, he said "just do it". Bay is not a collaborative director.

But yeah I can’t say I love or even really like these movie today (TF1 and DOTM are the best of the Bayverse though). TLK was legit one of the worst movies I’ve seen (even Bayverse fans hate it). I will say, I've seen Age of Extinction twice. First because I'd heard it was bad, and the second because my wife didn't believe it was that bad. I left with a headache both times. I just assume my brain was trying to turn itself off to save itself
I used to love bad movies but after seeing transformers moon party i changed my mind. I didn't think a movie could cause genuine pan and suffering but I was wrong.
I love how the decepticpns in 1 and 5 are polar opposites In the first movie they are a clear threat, i mean you have blackout wiping out the base at the start, brawl being an absolute unit taking shots for like half an hour and just not dying. You have barricade being genuinely scary at the start. Scorpononk gets hit by a fuckin air strike and is fine after almost killing the qatar base survivors. Starscream taking out the air force + knocking both ratchet and ironhide down at once and of course megatron completely shitting on jazz and almost killing optimus. Then you have the last knight decepticons who... are goofy and... die.
I always felt that the reason optomus is so violent is signs of ptsd and signs of what the war has done to him. It always made the transformers were more living than just robots.
Michael Bay got started making commercials. And to this day, it still shows. He has this obsession, this deeply unhealthy need, to fill every second of the screen time in every movie he makes. He smears shit all over the screen, pumps out sound from every direction, moves the camera around so much. His filmmaking is the embodiment of every ADD joke I heard growing up as a kid 3d printed out and shot from multiple angles. This carries over, and describes every aspect of these films, where thanks to the incredible amount of CG, he had more freedom even over what characters looked like. His storylines are everywhere, and the design of all of the transformers in these films is the textbook definition of not just one term, but many: busy, over-wrought, messy, ugly, and distracting. No one looks like they should, and at a glance, it's just impossible to tell what the fuck you're looking at. There's a lot of cool in the first movie, but the better his career got, and the more freedom he got over these movies as they were made, the worse it all becomes.
You are wrong Michael Bay do not want to make the last 2 transformers movie s (AOE and TLK) He was pressured by the executive and his freedom was limited in these last 2 movies and they are the worst one of these franchise
@@YaiphabaNgangom-u4g He still chose to come back and make the last 2. If Bay really wanted to stop, he could've just said no and decided not to come back and just let someone else direct these movies but instead did the opposite (after seeing a theme park ride, no less). So he definitely shoulders part of the blame.
@@YaiphabaNgangom-u4gnah, I don't think anybody at the studio gave a shit about the last however many transformers movies. Bay was forced to make them because they need the films to sell toys. He could still do whatever he wanted and fill the entire runtime with butts and explosions and that's what he did.
So Bay had them pour water on Fox while in a bikini and she was 15, then he made Wahlberg’s daughter 17 and dating a 20yo.... I’m very concerned for the little girl in the 5th movie😳
Idk what you're talking about, Megan Fox was 21 when the movie came out, and probably 19 or 20 while it was being filmed So she was never 15 in any of the movies
@@Kutomi1 well I wasn’t talking about transformers 07, she was in bad boys 2 and would have been 17 _possibly_ 16 when filming that (idk why I put 15, thank you) point being she was under age and Bay’s seems creepy

My friend and I walked out on Transformers 2 in theaters right after they teleported to Egypt, in favor of doing absolutely anything else, haven't seen any since, no regrets
Mark Wahlberg visibly scared of the acetylene torch is one of the funniest things they’ve ever kept in a movie. Then he adjusts the universal choke but doesn’t actually properly adjust his gas to air mix, it’s perfect
Far from cinematic masterpieces, or even a respectful nod to the source material, the bay films were little more than giant transforming robots using explosions to sell the newest Camaro model at the time... and if everyone is honest about what we watched and what they liked about it, that's enough.
24:40 rewatching this because watching media dissecting the bayformers movies is infinitely more interesting than just watching them, and this is perhaps still the best james soundbite out there he puts so much emotion into it
Liking the Transformers movies is the absolute apex of bad taste in movies imo. Tell me you like Star Wars prequels, DC movies, Indiana Jones 4, I wont think much of it tbh. But tell me you like Michael Bay's Transformers and I lose all hope.
It's remarkable to me how hard nostalgia kicked in for the people who liked these movies that all of a sudden you have droves of Bay fans lamenting that Bumblebee and the new movies aren't meeting the "tremendous" standards of these films. And then you look back at them, and you genuinely have to wonder "how in good faith can anyone watch this shit and then walk away from it thinking they're legitimately good movies?"
I think there are good things in these movies that the new ones are missing like the amazing CGI and crazy energy. But they are stupid, nonsensical and poorly passed so, not a lot to miss here.
I wouldn't have a problem with rotb if it was not boring, that's literally the worst sin of a transformers movie, being boring, it happened twice with tlk being the first one being a such a borefest. Bumblebee's great, sucks that Travis won't come back tho.
I think the Transformers series drove you two mad enough and produce some of your best banter. The Mission impossible series too especially the first one. But your commentary for each Transformers movie is just 100% funny talking points that sums up Caravan of Garbage to a tee.
I love that they mention the bad math with the Megatron resurrect scene - it always bothered me because I caught it immediately but no one who edited the movie did???
Did you know that that highway scene in Dark of the Moon also includes several shots taken directly from Michael Bay's The Island of Clones From Which Black Widow and Obi Wan Escape. Recolored and added some Transformers but even the cars flipping and crashing in the background are taken from The Island.
For the longest time I thought that I am an idiot cz I could never tell what the fuck is going on the movie with excessive lens flares, explosions and how many of the robots look alike. So THANK YOU! for pointing this out
Lindsey Ellis said once in her Transformers 2007 video that it was very easy to forget the events of these movies because your brain just stops processing all the shit. Did bumblebee pee on a guy? I can’t remember but I guess it happened.

The "burn you so bad you'll wish you died as a child" is from Good Morning, Vietnam. I'm guessing Bumblebee got access to RUclips clips instead of just FM radio and what was on at that moment.

I will say, I've seen Age of Extinction twice. First because I'd heard it was bad, and the second because my wife didn't believe it was that bad.
I left with a headache both times. I just assume my brain was trying to turn itself off to save itself
Butthurts who can't even think to watch a fun movie because it's "too dumb"
Yeah, there is no explanation for why this film and the Last Knight was soooo Bad!
Actually, we got plenty of explanation for that bullshit!
"This movie is bad because it gave me a headache". Top notch critique.
lol ur brain tried to self terminate
I used to love bad movies but after seeing transformers moon party i changed my mind. I didn't think a movie could cause genuine pan and suffering but I was wrong.
I love how the decepticpns in 1 and 5 are polar opposites
In the first movie they are a clear threat, i mean you have blackout wiping out the base at the start, brawl being an absolute unit taking shots for like half an hour and just not dying.
Then you have the last knight decepticons who... are goofy and... die.
I couldn't tell any of them apart in either...
@@SineN0mine3 i mean half of them at this point are reused assets
I always felt that the reason optomus is so violent is signs of ptsd and signs of what the war has done to him. It always made the transformers were more living than just robots.
But they don't DO anything with that. His character just resets at the end of each movie. Literally in Last Knights case.
The lack of Green Trivia in this video is jarring. I can't comprehend a time before Rodney and Blue Harvest.
Makes me miss the days when the humour was funny. You new fans fucked it for the rest of us.
You are wrong Michael Bay do not want to make the last 2 transformers movie s (AOE and TLK)
He was pressured by the executive and his freedom was limited in these last 2 movies and they are the worst one of these franchise
@@901Sherman yeah but most of the blame should be on executive who just took away the creative liberty bay have in those first 3 transformer movies
beautifully put, mate.
Idk what you're talking about, Megan Fox was 21 when the movie came out, and probably 19 or 20 while it was being filmed
So she was never 15 in any of the movies
@@Kutomi1 well I wasn’t talking about transformers 07, she was in bad boys 2 and would have been 17 _possibly_ 16 when filming that (idk why I put 15, thank you) point being she was under age and Bay’s seems creepy
I love the "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!!!!" line.
The idea of him doing a Mr Incredible "I've got time" at 01:16:29 is utterly hysterical to me for some reason.
Sometimes life is hard and you don’t know how things are going to turn out but every now and then you get to take sadistic pleasure from watching two mates go slowly insane watching movies about talking cars
Funny thing too, is that being down is also called the blues, and harvesting joy from times when your down is where the term “blue harvest” comes from
Everytime I see one of M.Bay Transformers movie in theaters I am always like "WTF is going on!?". It's like no different than watch TV static.
Then why do you keep seeing them in theatre?
Best thing about Dark of the Moon is the use of the Milwaukee Art Museum. The inside looks so much bigger on screen than in reality!
The first movie was the only one I tried to watch. I was pretty invested in the alien mystery... until the aliens appeared and started rapping around like teens. I was so, so disappointed at that moment, you should have seen my face. I turned it off, I never watched another Transformers movie, and I feel that my life has been better for it.
When tf they started rapping? I watch all of the bay transformers movie and none of it rapping.
Just watched them all and came here they rapped in none of them lol
DOTM was good tho
@@syedmohammedayaan4435 3 is my favourite and I enjoyed 1-4 but 5 was bad only liked the parts where I could see the transformers
@@buff5081 5 did so much right like get rid of stupid girlfriends, show cybetron, make optimus evil etc etc, and still fucked up cause of weird stupidity
"Give me your face" is a reference for the Fallen's face being the Decepticon logo (it IS)
I like how Mark Wahlberg is just in the shadows of 3 of these movies getting ready to go even more ridiculous 😭
31:48 had me dead.
“Who’s going to stop them? The Jordanians??” was perfection
Rewatch your big series' in the form of these omnibus videos have been brilliant. I love rediscovering old jokes I've forgetting and experiencing absolutely classics like the "Romeo and Juliet clause" bit.
You are truly great at making content, Mr Mr Sunday Movies
You described the series perfectly in the first 5 min. I could never put it into words this series and the MCU. They are Exhausting. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them, but there are always 20 things happening at one time.. Thanks for an awesome video.
I completely agree with everything that you said regarding Mark Walberg.
Never thought of the Dino bots like that but Optimus really was wilding
Heck yh! Love this version of transformers with all my heart but I also love these videos on them. It's a great laugh and they're what brought me to the channel.
1:33:30 That made me watch the film for Cogman alone. I love a weird robot. And he was great.
My friend and I walked out on Transformers 2 in theaters right after they teleported to Egypt, in favor of doing absolutely anything else, haven't seen any since, no regrets
This vid is wild. It hits all the 'well that did suck' notes while showing full respect to all involved. Hits weird. ...better subscribe just in case.
Mark Wahlberg visibly scared of the acetylene torch is one of the funniest things they’ve ever kept in a movie. Then he adjusts the universal choke but doesn’t actually properly adjust his gas to air mix, it’s perfect
Also need a Megan Fox “you know what?…” compilation. She sort of improvs it into a lot of her lines in the movie. 13:30
One thing that I've noticed in the first film is that Barricade is never killed off and just disappears
Maso: What’s the opposite of Transformers movie?
Madman: Marriage Story
A correction, Lockdown came from Transformers Animated first.
This comment needs more likes & needs to be way higher in the comment section.
52:36 “He’s just a Lunatic” Really got me 😂
I’ve been waiting on this compilation for such a long time, but now that it’s in front of me I’m not sure I’m ready
49:26 It’s wild that Patrick Dempsey got hired the day before this considering the exact same thing happened when he got hired for Scream 3 😬
More like "Transformers 4: Age of Consent", am I right?
I like how heavy the car sized transformers are. They're clunky and kinda slow and there's weight to their movement.
"I have a specific set of skills: I can turn into a truck!" 😂
I love that they mention the bad math with the Megatron resurrect scene - it always bothered me because I caught it immediately but no one who edited the movie did???
Ben Joker dancing was the best part
- Ben, which compilation do you wanna do?
- No, no, nononono!
- Ok, that works!
Did you know that that highway scene in Dark of the Moon also includes several shots taken directly from Michael Bay's The Island of Clones From Which Black Widow and Obi Wan Escape. Recolored and added some Transformers but even the cars flipping and crashing in the background are taken from The Island.
We love and appreciate ya Ben, keep up the awesome work man. 💯👌🏾
np will do ✌👍
This is more entertaining than all 13 Michael Bay Transformers "films" and shorter than any of them.
For the longest time I thought that I am an idiot cz I could never tell what the fuck is going on the movie with excessive lens flares, explosions and how many of the robots look alike. So THANK YOU! for pointing this out
What we do in the shadows introduced us to the horror or energy vampires. Transformers introduced us to the horror of competency vampires!
Well done!
Lindsey Ellis said once in her Transformers 2007 video that it was very easy to forget the events of these movies because your brain just stops processing all the shit. Did bumblebee pee on a guy? I can’t remember but I guess it happened.
Yeah? What's she doing now? Drinking herself to death and being salty that white men exist?
@@charlesplante eh, maybe. I don’t care enough to follow the exploits of the former Nostalgia Chick after she showed she couldn’t take the same shit that every other semi-popular YTer has to endure.
@@russellharrell2747 Her video essays are well worth a watch, and then a rewatch: They're perceptive, funny, and engaging, and I strongly recommend them to anyone.
He did pee on a guy... there was no reason for it, it just happened and it was dumb and pointless and I hated it.
For the fifth movie especially, this is just James and Maso explaining what was in the movie and it’s HILARIOUS!
Lets not forget that the first movie claims that the transformers learned English through the Internet. But the 5th movie claims that they were working with humans way before the internet existed.
Yeah i guess they learned english through humans in the templer times but when optimus came they learned it quicker through scanning the internet
"It was a cartoon?"
What great timing.
I fell asleep halfway through the first movie.
That was the last one I tried to watch.
My personal favorite (though not a catchphrase in the movie) is “I’m going to throw up, and then we’re gonna die” from Jim Carry’s Grinch. That whole clip sums up a great deal of my anxiety
And then that bit about “we’re gonna die” catchphrases was followed by a clip that actually made me feel sick. What climbed into Shia Leboeuf’s mouth?
These are the videos that got me hooked on these guys.
Fun fact, in the first film when Bumblebee transforms into the modern Camaro, that was actually the first time the public got to see the then new Camaro. It hadn’t been unveiled to the public yet, and the one used in the film was a pre production concept car and not an actual production car.
The "burn you so bad you'll wish you died as a child" is from Good Morning, Vietnam. I'm guessing Bumblebee got access to RUclips clips instead of just FM radio and what was on at that moment.
