It’s an excellent bit, using a sincere and fair judgement right before absolutely dismissing it in one line which… tbh is equally valid and relatable.
It’s actually encapsulating James and Maso’s whole approach to this channel imo, Dan Murrell and Lon Harris from Honest Trailers used to praise Mr Sunday Movies before I’d listened to Weekly Planet or became a fan of caravan of garbage and I know why. It’s the harsh and funny, but nonetheless fair and measured humour which they also prided themselves on being at Honest Trailers.

Apparently James was really worried about the backlash he was going to get from Star Wars fans when he released the Star Wars caravan of garbage videos that it brought him down. So much so that he ended up playing games to relax. The main one was farming simulator due to its soothing nature. That led to the working title for these videos to be called blue harvest.

I’ve read about that on a couple of different analyses of the film. Basically, the theory is that the character of Anakin- brooding, emo, alienated- is designed to appeal to teen boys, and the type that would engineer a tragedy would potentially identify with the character in a a more profound way. Then, they usually mention the killing of the younglings. Not saying it’s a correct theory or that I agree; just saying I’ve read the idea from more than one source.

      No.
Episode I is important in establishing the characters, showing the state of the galaxy before war breaks out, establishing various themes relevant to the rest of the trilogy, showing the start of Palpatine's rise to power, and plenty more. And besides, no other Star Wars movie has flashbacks, so having them randomly in one installment would feel out of place with how the rest of the story is told.
(And don't bring up TLJ's flashbacks. Disney's garbage sequels don't count. George Lucas had nothing to do with them and they deliberately undermine his plotlines and character arcs. I'm just talking about the real movies.)

My gosh, if they really had just gone with Obi-Wan doing all the risky adventuring and finding Annakin and winning his freedom...not only would that correspond to the Obi-Wan we know from the original trilogy, but also it would make all the later confrontations he has with Annakin more meaningful, more emotionally resonant. It seems insane that they had this in the script and then they changed it--just to add a character who stands between Obi-Wan and Annakin (metaphorically), played by an admittedly good actor, for whom the role was clearly mostly just a paycheck. The whole prequel trilogy wouldn't been much less terrible as a result of that one, significant change.

    • @nagger8216
      @nagger8216 Год назад +17

There's so many things wrong with the Tatooine part of the movie I think it completely destroyed the foundation of what was established in the OT. Which is hilarious since all it would take is just a few tweaks to the story to make them both work together.
First off, obviously have Obi-Wan with Qui-Gon when they meet Anakin. Secondly make Anakin 15-18 years old, then establish Owen and Beru (yeah remember them? Because the Phantom Menace didn't) as Anakin's best friends who are also around the same age, instead of having that bizarre group of little kids who are all obviously children of the producers.
Show Shmi also getting along well with Owen and Beru too, maybe Owen comes by to help her out with chores and stuff when Anakin is working. Like, instead of that random kid who helps Anakin with his podracer, have that be Owen. Maybe Beru originally had a crush on Anakin or vice versa, but he left before they really got together. And when Anakin leaves Tatooine, we can get a bittersweet farewell scene with them, with Owen promising Anakin that he and Beru will look out for his mother, which would also segway nicely into her living on their farm by Attack of the Clones.
Lastly, but most importantly, don't have Qui-Gon directly take on Anakin as an apprentice. Qui-Gon believes Obi-Wan is ready to become a Jedi Knight, right? So instead of just awkwardly trying to get rid of him so he's allowed to teach Anakin, have Qui-Gon foster the relationship between these two so that Obi-Wan can teach Anakin. It can even mirror how Obi-Wan made Ahsoka Anakin's apprentice since he thought he was finally ready to teach. In this version, that can make a lot more sense because Qui-Gon already did the same thing with Obi-Wan and Anakin.

Keep in mind though, they had a ton of money and knew the power of a loaded cast, so they got bigger stars this time, too many.

Movie 2: brothers in arms ; war breaks out and the jedi choose not to fight. Obi-wan rebels and joins the war and Anakin follows. They become highly regarded soldiers due to their abilities. Movie 3: adversaries; the horrors of war have messed up Anakin, turning him to the dark side and he returns to take revenge on the jedi for not participating. Obi-wan tries to stop him.

The whole Anakin conception thing is MUCH more interesting in the old EU where Darth Plagueis was the one behind it, rather than Palpatine. And it wasn't something intentional, it was a byproduct of him trying to force his will onto Medichlorians and something deep within the Force, some spiritual quasi consciousness pushed back against his manipulations and created Anakin to be its Avatar. Plagueis even worried if his manipulations had created a series of events which would destroy the Sith.
It's not a coincidence that Anakin kind of can be viewed both as the Jedi's chosen one, but also is a decent candidate for the Sith prophesied child, the Sithari.

Show a more gradual change as Vader becomes the one we see in the originals, as opposed to getting dipped in lava once and wearing the same exact suit for 20 years. He always felt way too young and absolutely too immature through out the whole trilogy. Even the turn feels like a kid making a decision based on a single dream rather then a grizzled war veteran who has lost so much, has some PTSD and is afraid to lose what he finally was gaining.
Sorry Clone Wars fans, that show does not fix the issue, it exacerbates it instead. The characters and then their complete disappearance for no reason, the change in attitude and then change back then change again or basically whatever Filoni needed to keep his changes afloat. Congrats though, you got sold that genocide occurs because of a chip and not simply words, what an immature change of something meaningful.

As a grumpy old man pushing 50 I absolutely hated the Prequels for years. I tried to convince myself they were good when they were 1st released, but I just couldn't do it for very long. But I'm one of those people who have "come around" to the Prequels. I actually prefer to watch them over the Original Trilogy these days because I have seen the OT 100 million billion kajillion times. Fantastic movies. Love all three of them. A New Hope might be my favorite movie ever made, as it impacted me as a child probably more than any other movie. Empire Strikes Back is 100% the most well-made film of the three. And Jedi - yeah, it was a little disappointing that it was aimed at a younger audience - especially after how dark Empire was - and Han Solo's character was noticeably forced into the film due to Ford not wanting to be in the movie until the 11th hour, but Jedi is still a fun and satisfying final act. It returns to the more fun serial feel from A New Hope. But I know those three movies forward, backward, sideways, upside your head-ways - as much as I hate a lot of the decisions Lucas made in the Prequels, I've actually come to rather enjoy them for what they are instead of hating them for what they're not.
