Just watched this movie. I love Kamala Khan, but I need some kind of combat training montage for her. When she’s taking out trained soldiers with her scarf, I just keep thinking…this is just a high school student.
Tim's comment about "she's a woman" got me thinking... this is the entire problem with female chracters in the MCU. It doesnt make sense why a 16 year old in this universe would love Cap. Marvel. And it shows just how few female heroes that are layered and interesting in the MCU itself: NATASHA - Dead Wanda - Basically a villian at this point Pepper - no longer a practicing hero most likely Jane Foster - Dead Maria Hill - Dead Gamora - an assassin, not likely an idol for a 16 year old. So, Kamala's choices for heroes to look up to are basically Captain Marvel, Wasp, and Shuri. Of these choices its likely that she was gravitate towards Carol becuase indealisticly shes the closest to someone like Superman.

Watched and enjoyed it. Doesn’t deserve the harsher criticism it’s been getting, and should have done better at the box office, though I think that failure is largely the lack of press. I think the movies humour very natural and feels way less forced than some. Thought the cast was great. If you like Marvel movies, I really don’t see why you wouldn’t like this. Also has one excellent top tier action sequence.
I love Captain Marvel and do very much like Brie Larson, so I thought this movie was a hoot and half. Absolutely awesome and I’m absolutely going to watch it again. Bought my Captain Marvel shirts already too lol

Listening to this in review and some of the crews explanation as to why they like this movie really highlights for me why I think they mcu is falling off they talk about how the story is but because there were good moments it hyped them up for the rest of the mcu. Going back to Iron Man all the movies or most of the movies had good story. And we’re connected to the larger MCU. I feel like the mcumoving away from that and truly relying on member berries, callbacks and cameos to get them people excited but at the end of the day barring a few exceptions, like Loki, story is just not there. It’s criminal secret invasion is brushed off and fury is a completely different character.
I reckon Greg would have been invested more in the character of Captain Marvel if they played an obnoxious theme song everytime she appeared on screen...
Overall I’d say I agree mostly with Greg about the level of quality for this movie. It took a lot of excess effort to convince myself to go see this movie so I even googled plot stuff to see if any Easter eggs would be worth it. I don’t really know if it is worth the exhaustion and overstimulating experience for me but knowing we will likely get Kelsey Grammar as beast again in the future is very cool as someone who loves all the performances I’ve seen of his (shoutout to side show Bob and Frasier) it’s very good that he is down to be this character again after almost 20 years.

I liked the three women when they were together, but the rest of us the movie just plummetted for me to consider it good or fun. Even the post-credits scene being shocking to the general audience shouldn't be the reason audiences give the movie as a whole a pass.

Regarding the villain and Carols guilt I agree it would have been more interesting to get anything about her battle destroying the Supreme Intelligence and the fact that the Kree went through a civil freaking war!? I think getting some of the background around the racial divisions of the Kree from the comics (difference between blue skinned and Earth like Kree) and depicting how Dar-Ben got to a leadership position after the war and Carol destroying the Supreme Intelligence would have fleshed out things nicely.

I have been so underwhelmed with how they have handled Cap Marvel in the MCU. This movie was very comic book filler special. Hopefully we get a real Cap Marvel someday, which is pretty crazy to think since we have seen Cap Marvel on the big screen 3 times already.

Just got done watching. I really enjoyed it. It was fun. Every marvel movie doesn't have to be some big event, they can just be a fun movie to watch. Which this is :)
I’m like 10 minutes in and utterly shocked. This is highest I’ve seen anyone on the movie so far online. I love you guys but the MCU bias is absurd. If Sony or DC made this exact movie you’d be dogging all over it. I just don’t understand your taste at this point.
I enjoyed the movie- but it could have been alot stronger with alot more content. Show Carol destroying the AI as a triumphent thing, then have it contrast with how the villian feels about it. Maybe show some scenes from the fall of Hala Have some scenes with Ms Marvel doing some street level crime fighting instead of the arty part (though I do enjoy it, I think it would have fit better with the movie) And lastly, have more of Rambo struggling with her powers before she goes out on the space station. They desperately needed to sit with each of these characters for alot longer before they moved in to the movie plot. I enjoy each of these characters, and I feel like they did each of them dirty. For other stuff, editing needed to be tighter in some of the action scenes, the score could have been alot better as well in alot of places... and the overall flow could have been greatly improved. There is a great movie for these three characters with the general plot they have... but I feel like they missed the mark on several parts. Too bad, hope we get more of each of these characters in the future.
I’m so glad they let Captain Marvel have a personality this time around. I was worried that she’d bring the dynamic between the three down as the “Mary Sue” of the group, and I’m glad they didn’t go that route. I loved the interactions between all the leads, and I especially enjoyed Ms Marvel in this. Action was also great, but most everything else (villain, plot, MCU continuity, emotional beats) was very whatever. Overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would.
This movie was awesome fun. If you understand this is FAMILY entertainment and this particular installment is mainly made to aim at WOMEN and is directed by a WOMAN and is supposed to appeal to adolescent girls/women....it's great bruh! The weirdos have been bashing it non stop but any grown man knows this is a great flick for your daughters to see as well. Very disney, along with fun mcu comedy, action, and stakes. This combined with Loki finale was a great night of MCU fun and set up. Both hit perfect for me. I loved the dancing and songs, the colors, captain marvel in a Disney princess dress, the cat scene....if you hate this movie u have something wrong inside. Brie is great and I love that she is staying ttd on her ideals. It wasn't perfect, some rushed stuff, needed more character development for Carol but makes me want to go back and watch Mrs. Marvel series to see what I missed.

The guys did bring up a good point about the current MCU. Secret Wars needs to be the end of these multiverse stories. The plots have gotten so big and cosmic that I can imagine potential new fans being intimidated by all the prior knowledge needed to enter the franchise at this point.

On 2nd thought, rewatching it Andy says "above Hawkeye", Tim has it above Hawkeye as well because he says only the finale was bad, and the other two. But then Andy raises his hand when asked "who thinks it's above Hawkeye" and Nick also raises his hand, while Tim & Greg do not.
Just want to say, I appreciate that everyone tries to avoid big spoilers for those of us who just want to know your initial thoughts. And then Tim comes in with the big spoilers suddenly. Again, I know you say full spoilers, but many of you try to avoid them until you get further into the plot (which I obviously avoid when I have yet to watch).
Probably separate since such few MCU shows have a 2nd season and the two are tonally so different from one another. Loki Season 1 vs 2 is a lot like any of the other MCU movies that share the same names and cast but feel so different from one another because they're made by entirely new people
I was disappointed by this. I really liked the initial action scene where they're switching constantly and don't know what's going on but that was the only highlight for me. It's just so all over the place and it comes across like things were really messy behind the scenes.
Finally got round to watching this and it felt straight out of 2004 and not in a good way. The comedy was great and the story premise was a really cool idea but unfortunately I thought the action, CGI, costumes, villain and music were all very poor/generic. Brie Larson is great but didn't get enough time for any real character development, Kamala was fun but Monica just does not have the star power to be in this movie. The MCU is the big leagues, possibly the biggest league there is in entertainment and the Monica actor just does not have the charisma to be believable or exciting as a super hero. She was fine for as a side character in the Wanda Vision TV show but not as a lead in a big budget MCU movie. As a result the movie ended up feeling cheap and not up the standards that should be expected from Marvel at this point.

This movie was really fun! My two favorite things were 1. The women were allowed to be women. They weren't trying to emulate me. They had emotion, they talked through there problems, and they bonded in such a delightful way. You didn't have to watch dudes brood, or be pig headed, or scramble round a plot point because they refused to talk it through and clear up a simple miscommunication. 2. Tayonah Parris! My God! I would pay to watch that women do anything!
This was the first MCU film that left me feeling excited and fully entertained since No Way Home. It’s everything the MCU films has been lacking the last year and a half; fun, exciting, punchy and NOT TOO LONG. Every non-Avengers film should be under 2 hours. And for the first time in a LONG time, the last scenes actually made me excited to see what’s coming next!
I do not understand how quantumania is above the other antman movies on their list tbh. It’s truly forgettable and not really funny like the other two movies that are just fine while quantamia is actually bad. Also yeah the ragu bagu lady needs to prune out all the non mcu stuff and have a visual list for the videos. I enjoyed both. But to be fair, my brain blocked out the musical scene.

Regarding the villain and Carols guilt I agree it would have been more interesting to get anything about her battle destroying the Supreme Intelligence and the fact that the Kree went through a civil freaking war!? I think getting some of the background around the racial divisions of the Kree from the comics (difference between blue skinned and Earth like Kree) and depicting how Dar-Ben got to a leadership position after the war and Carol destroying the Supreme Intelligence would have fleshed out things nicely.

I liked this movie just because i love these characters. It’s not the greatest thing in the world but anyone who didn’t watch the Disney plus shows were missing out.

I have been so underwhelmed with how they have handled Cap Marvel in the MCU. This movie was very comic book filler special. Hopefully we get a real Cap Marvel someday, which is pretty crazy to think since we have seen Cap Marvel on the big screen 3 times already.

for Greg: they explained why Kamala loved Carol in the opening scene of the Ms. Marvel series through the animated short that Kamala made. in the MCU, Carol is looked at publicly as THE hero who turned the tide during the battle in Endgame. the heroes were losing before she came in and smashed through the ship. you say she's a boring character because you're basing it on what you saw in the first movie where she was built to be emotionless by the Kree. but young teenage girls in the MCU don't know anything about that. they only know she's the badass woman who defeated Thanos.
also, Greg way overthinking the house at the end. Carol literally says she's watching over the house until Maria gets back. dont think it could be more clear than that lol. and the mom was just pressuring the son to have children.
If this was any other Marvel movie they would all dog pile on it. But can’t do that with this cast. lol a bad movie is a bad movie.

Just got done watching. I really enjoyed it. It was fun. Every marvel movie doesn't have to be some big event, they can just be a fun movie to watch. Which this is :)

I’m like 10 minutes in and utterly shocked. This is highest I’ve seen anyone on the movie so far online. I love you guys but the MCU bias is absurd. If Sony or DC made this exact movie you’d be dogging all over it. I just don’t understand your taste at this point.
I enjoyed the movie- but it could have been alot stronger with alot more content.
Show Carol destroying the AI as a triumphent thing, then have it contrast with how the villian feels about it. Maybe show some scenes from the fall of Hala
Have some scenes with Ms Marvel doing some street level crime fighting instead of the arty part (though I do enjoy it, I think it would have fit better with the movie)
And lastly, have more of Rambo struggling with her powers before she goes out on the space station.
They desperately needed to sit with each of these characters for alot longer before they moved in to the movie plot. I enjoy each of these characters, and I feel like they did each of them dirty.
For other stuff, editing needed to be tighter in some of the action scenes, the score could have been alot better as well in alot of places... and the overall flow could have been greatly improved.
There is a great movie for these three characters with the general plot they have... but I feel like they missed the mark on several parts.
Too bad, hope we get more of each of these characters in the future.

I’m so glad they let Captain Marvel have a personality this time around. I was worried that she’d bring the dynamic between the three down as the “Mary Sue” of the group, and I’m glad they didn’t go that route. I loved the interactions between all the leads, and I especially enjoyed Ms Marvel in this. Action was also great, but most everything else (villain, plot, MCU continuity, emotional beats) was very whatever. Overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would.

This movie was awesome fun. If you understand this is FAMILY entertainment and this particular installment is mainly made to aim at WOMEN and is directed by a WOMAN and is supposed to appeal to adolescent girls/women....it's great bruh! The weirdos have been bashing it non stop but any grown man knows this is a great flick for your daughters to see as well. Very disney, along with fun mcu comedy, action, and stakes.
This combined with Loki finale was a great night of MCU fun and set up. Both hit perfect for me.
I loved the dancing and songs, the colors, captain marvel in a Disney princess dress, the cat scene....if you hate this movie u have something wrong inside. Brie is great and I love that she is staying ttd on her ideals.
It wasn't perfect, some rushed stuff, needed more character development for Carol but makes me want to go back and watch Mrs. Marvel series to see what I missed.

The guys did bring up a good point about the current MCU. Secret Wars needs to be the end of these multiverse stories. The plots have gotten so big and cosmic that I can imagine potential new fans being intimidated by all the prior knowledge needed to enter the franchise at this point.
Put yourself in Kamala’s shoes Greg. Antman told the story, so young woman everywhere know that a female superhero showed up out of nowhere, blew up thanos’ ship single handedly, then fought him to a stand still before the power stone.
True, nobody actually knows Carol Danvers. She's basically a living legend for everyone on Earth. The only version of Captain Marvel people know is the person from Scott's stories.

Nick is correct. Carol is moving into the house in Louisiana, not the Khans. Kamalas mom is egging the son on about having children. Also I think he and his wife still do live with his parents? Remember how broke he was at the end of his wedding. I think he and his wife are saving up to get their own house but don’t take my word for it.

On 2nd thought, rewatching it Andy says "above Hawkeye", Tim has it above Hawkeye as well because he says only the finale was bad, and the other two. But then Andy raises his hand when asked "who thinks it's above Hawkeye" and Nick also raises his hand, while Tim & Greg do not.

Just want to say, I appreciate that everyone tries to avoid big spoilers for those of us who just want to know your initial thoughts. And then Tim comes in with the big spoilers suddenly. Again, I know you say full spoilers, but many of you try to avoid them until you get further into the plot (which I obviously avoid when I have yet to watch).

I was disappointed by this. I really liked the initial action scene where they're switching constantly and don't know what's going on but that was the only highlight for me. It's just so all over the place and it comes across like things were really messy behind the scenes.

Finally got round to watching this and it felt straight out of 2004 and not in a good way. The comedy was great and the story premise was a really cool idea but unfortunately I thought the action, CGI, costumes, villain and music were all very poor/generic. Brie Larson is great but didn't get enough time for any real character development, Kamala was fun but Monica just does not have the star power to be in this movie. The MCU is the big leagues, possibly the biggest league there is in entertainment and the Monica actor just does not have the charisma to be believable or exciting as a super hero. She was fine for as a side character in the Wanda Vision TV show but not as a lead in a big budget MCU movie. As a result the movie ended up feeling cheap and not up the standards that should be expected from Marvel at this point.

THANK YOU! After watching this I have been racking my brain as to why people seem to dislike this film? This was an absolute delight! And to your point Iman Vellani is as good and integral to Kamala Khan as RDJ was to Tony Stark. She is the focal point the MCU should be centered around.

This movie was really fun!
My two favorite things were
1. The women were allowed to be women. They weren't trying to emulate me. They had emotion, they talked through there problems, and they bonded in such a delightful way. You didn't have to watch dudes brood, or be pig headed, or scramble round a plot point because they refused to talk it through and clear up a simple miscommunication.
2. Tayonah Parris! My God! I would pay to watch that women do anything!
This was the first MCU film that left me feeling excited and fully entertained since No Way Home. It’s everything the MCU films has been lacking the last year and a half; fun, exciting, punchy and NOT TOO LONG. Every non-Avengers film should be under 2 hours.
And for the first time in a LONG time, the last scenes actually made me excited to see what’s coming next!
I do not understand how quantumania is above the other antman movies on their list tbh. It’s truly forgettable and not really funny like the other two movies that are just fine while quantamia is actually bad.
Also yeah the ragu bagu lady needs to prune out all the non mcu stuff and have a visual list for the videos. Because as one of I’m sure many neurodivergent KF fans I can’t hold onto things in my mind just through auditory processing, so I need the visuals it’s partly why I watch the videos and not just listen through podcasts.
