Wanda lost both parents, was betrayed by Ultron, lost her brother, became hated after the accident in Lagos, had to kill Vision and then watch him be killed by Thanos, had to end the hex and lose Vision again and her children. Then the Darkhold gets her. After all that, it's no surprise that she finally turned heel.

Exactly. She has a turn in the comics as well. I think part of the problem is our own attachments beliefs about characters we like in not being able to see them in a bad way, but this is Exactly why even in real life people are like 90% more likely to be murdered by a spouse, family member, friend or loved one than some scary stranger like we think. Like you said, Wanda grew up tragically, lost her parents, was experimented on by Hydra, betrayed by Ultron, lost her brother, had to kill Vison only to have him immediately brought back to watch him die again, then had to get rid of the Hex where she lost Vision for a 3rd time as well as her kids, had everyone hate her for it, and then got taken by the Darkhold. I'm like, if that isn't a laid out Villan origin story I don't know what is.

Kevin nailed the vibe I got from Scarlet Witch. What's remarkable is MCU provided so much backstory for Wanda, and we spent so much time with her that when the Darkhold corrupts her, it's sad to see her struggle. She tried to manipulate her mind to give her the future she wanted in Wanda...it imprisoned a whole town. She tried everything she could to be good and do the right thing as an Avenger. And she lost everything. She tells Dr. Strange, straight up...what did you lose? So, she turned to the Darkhold for answers. I loved the fake-out because when it was revealed early on, that "hey, im the bad guy here. " I was like, oh, we will get the Scarlet Witch that scorches the Earth in this movie. The Scarlet Witch is the most powerful Mutant in the Marvel Universe.

I agree with Greg and Nick. The issue isn't that it doesn't make sense of how Wanda got to that point, only that WandaVision ended with Wanda seeming to have resolved the storyline regarding Vision and her kids, accepting their loss. Yes, there is a post-credit stinger that shows her looking at other multiverses, but without a hint of malice. The movie just kind of goes straight to immediate evil bad guy. Though I understand Andy's point that having an extra scene that kind of shows the Dark Hold having some sway over Wanda making that reveal less surprising, I think it would have made the turn not feel so sudden.

The problem is it goes against the sacrifices she would make, which they established, so it felt like a cheap plot device was used to turn her into a villain, and WandaVision was all about clever/compelling writing so it was a huge drop for her and her arc. Olsen still did an amazing job working with what she had, but it was significantly weaker than what she just had prior.

I don’t understand the complainants because the turn was strongly hinted at during the final wandavision scene with her creating a hex with an illusion of her for the outside world while she was really studying the dark hold.
Her turn and motivation made complete sense, and it was awesome to see Elizabeth Olsen be absolutely terrifying. And you could see during Charles’ visit in her mind that she’s still there deep, deep down. But clearly the dark hold was corrupting her.

Wanda is this far gone BECAUSE of the Darkhold. They explain multiple times that it warps the user so yes it is a stark difference but it's believable. • @Alex_Logan22
      @Alex_Logan22 2 года назад +8

She's never really been to blame for anything she's done though, it would be like saying Bucky is irredeemable. The Hydra brainwashing was just a much better storytelling device than the Darkhold.
The problem isn't that it wasn't believable, but that it was a bad creative decision, or bad execution at least, after all the nuance and care taken with WandaVision. I expect Wanda to be a villain but I don't want storytelling to go backwards. A very easy work around would've been to just have a variant Wanda be the villain, and our Wanda would've still been much weaker without the Darkhold knowledge plus her holding back, so that the villain Wanda still has the same affect. It would've also been a good duality of a Wanda who just sacrificed her kids versus one who's doing everything she can to have them.

Forget the fact that this is a horror film. Forget the mass murder and demons. The scariest thing Raimi does here is make you look inward and ask yourself, “are you happy?”
I’m sorry, but the fucking guitar riff with Zombie Strange using demons as his cape is the coldest thing ever.
Holy shit, Raimi took Disney’s “family friendly” studio money and made a horror film. This film gave me Michael Myers Wanda, and I’M ALL FOR IT. That was amazing in every way possible. I think it could’ve used 15 extra minutes in the runtime to allow some breathing room, but that’s all I can really complain about in terms of structure. This movie is all gas and no breaks. It's obvious now how Spider-Man: NWH would have been different. America was learning magic at the end of this. So I think the spell in NWH would have just been a "forget me" spell cast by America, who screws it up and accidentally uses her multiverse power at the same time. I imagine the thing with Wong disappearing from the Sanctum was originally both Strange and Wong having to quickly leave to fight a monster or something, leaving Peter in the Sanctum with America.
It's such a shame because that whole section of NWH with Strange acting out of character is pretty weak, but America doing it makes perfect sense. It would be good if we eventually get an optional "America cut" of NWH but I know that will never happen.
Also, that whole thing with snow being in the Sanctum - I would put money on that being there because there was supposed to be set up for her powers for people who hadn't seen MoM and she would accidentally open a portal and let the snow in that way. I bet that's where those shoveling interns came from - that was meant to be her.

You get the weird trippyness of Doctor Strange, you get the quirkiness and weird humor of Wandavision, and you have Wanda with these weird powers acting as the Villian (which reminds me of the start of Age of Ultron) and thus the horror elements. And if you watch Wandavision right before this, you will understand why she is doing what she is doing. It feels like Nick has goldish syndrome here, just forgetting what all this stuff was like and how it built to this. Even when Peter Parker comes to the Sanctum, he says to Strange "I thought you were the Sorcerer Supreme" meaning Strange (off-screen) told Peter that on the way to Titan.
So it is weird that in this movie, it's treated as if he never held that title. He doesn't know about the Book of Vishanti while Wong does, with Wong explaining that he learned about it in a secret book only Sorcerer Supremes have.

Howard (creator of Conan the Barbarian) for his story stores "Kull the Conqueror" in the late 1920's. The name is owned by a company called Heroic Signatures, who own all of Howard's works, and their president recently said that Marvel never even asked to license the name. Gargantos is a super doofy looking Namor villain who is literally just a one-eyed octopus, and Marvel just used the name because they already owned it.

Believe it or not, not even everyone likes ice cream, especially older people who start discovering how poorly its treating their health/body versus other foods.

It didnt quite meet my expectations but I still had a really good time with this movie. The visuals were fantastic, the horror was on another level and Elizabeth Olsen killed it as Scarlett Witch. I need to see it again to see I where I really come down on it but right now it would make my top 10 MCU movies.
Expectations would have been better managed if it wasn't called "Multiverse of Madness", I feel like they could have saved that title for a movie down the line, this film didn't really justify it.
I was surprised how quickly Wanda went completely evil considering she redeemed herself at the end of WandaVision. I'm sure they will put it down to the corruption of the darkhold but she did some twisted stuff in this.
The post credit scene was a little weird to me. The end shot of the movie is Strange screaming in horror as his 3rd eye awakens but the post credit is him merrily walking down the same streets, having zero issues when it appears again. Perhaps there is a significant jump in time between these scenes but it really lessened the impact of the final shot for me.

I swear if you focus just on Nick, you can tell how hard he's trying to restrain himself from nitpicking every little detail during the plot recap. Now that's character development right there.

Agree with all his complaints so far. I wish he didn't hold back.

For me this has been the best of this phase of marvel films. I hope marvel learns from this and goes forward with the best bits. Side note, fuck knows how they kept the rating they did - the death scenes in this stayed with me for a while after viewing. Well done to the cast and crew on this one.

I think The Batman's sound design and unrelenting/overbearing tone stood out more as far as PG13 goes and stuck with me more. The things in this movie were more about shock value for the sake of entertainment.
