Golf's Next Great Lefty Shows Childhood Course in Scotland | Swing Thoughts: Robert MacIntyre

- Skratch and GolfTV visit Oban, Scotland, the site of our latest edition of Swing Thoughts, presented by @TAYLORMADEGOLF, home of one of the top left-handers in today's game.
Right outside of Robert MacIntyre childhood home's back door are four stunning golf holes on pristine Scottish soil. Glencruitten Golf Club is the course the European Tour champion and current PGA TOUR pro grew up playing with his dad, who's still the greenskeeper to this day.
As MacIntyre was building his world ranking with solid finishes in Europe, he still felt that something was lacking, and wanted to make a change. That's when he decided to pick back up the game of shinty, and would split his time on the European Tour and on the shinty pitch on alternate weeks.

It’s nice to see very grounded young man who knows the true value of life. I’m a new fan, go Robbie.
Have to agree, will 100% be keeping a closet eye on him after this. What a place to live though, just out the back fence and onto the golf course
He goes by Bob
Not sure he'd be so grounded if instead of a house by the sea he worked two jobs just to keep an apartment with a view of a dumpster and fire hydrant. Great human being, just pointing out money buys this kind of happiness for the most part. The lad even makes a statement about his parents careers which alludes to this. Many people would live like him if they didnt have to worry about their next meal.
@@johnthemachine Certain countries afford every opportunity to those who are willing to pursue it. Other countries do not unless you are a stand-out talent.
@@johnthemachineThat’s what you took from this, what an absolute clown.
Back again to congratulate Bob on his big win in 🇨🇦 well done mate
Seems like a great lad too
@@RonniePickeringMate couldnt agree more, you irascible scoundrel
Perfect. He has complete understanding of the value in life at a young age. That course looks wonderful, almost magic. Content like this is truly enriching. Thank you for sharing.
The greatest golf video I’ve seen on RUclips. So refreshing to see someone playing golf at the highest level from a completely different background. What a unique story. You’ve got to love this game 👍👍
It had me engrossed from start to finish and I have the attention span of a child
@@method341 you couldn't have put it any better! I was the exact same 😂😂 loved it!
A great guy. To hear his backstory and see his humility is rare and very inspirational. Too many people get a bit of fame, become acquired by agents and follow the pound note. But Bob seems to have his life sorted out. I love watching him play and wish him all the best for the future.
He just won the RBC Canadian Open! Go Bobby Mac
love that he's getting this first win with his dad on the bag. exciting 18 tomorrow.
Great kid, doing his family & Oban proud. Got to love it, that was a real tonic for the soul :)
I love watching this guy play golf on tour. So wonderfully fearless but not stuck up himself. I hope he has many wins and keeps his grounded sense of humour. Well done Bob so far and well done to his family!
I've been to oban once before. Fantastic scotch, breathtaking landscape, and some of the nicest people you will meet. Bobby is a perfect example of this and & a class act.
What a wholesome young man. Delighted that he recently won the Italian Open.
Brilliant, always remember him saying with one of his first big pay cheques that he was going to buy his mum a kitchen. Loved it. Good Scots laddie - always look after yer mum.
The lay of the land and the roots of the man. A beautiful part of the world reflected in a great, grounded, beautiful and funny human being. A top Scot. Well done Bob every Scot is proud of your achievements, not forgetting all the hardworking and effort you put in. Go get that major and keep dreaming.
Good man. Hurling and its cousin Shinty are the two best stick games on the planet! If you can hurl (or play Shinty) you can be a good golfer! All the best man, from Ireland.
I played shinty for years, am I mad for believing shinty and hurling players for some reason play left handed?
Nice guy, talented, contented and living both the dream in his sports and in a happy & beautiful environment at home. Proud he's one of us. As for the golf course, when I played there maybe 30 years ago all I remember is the ball coming back down a hill to my feet a couple of times. A good place for him to learn the game (obviously!)
We visited Oban in 2019, got to play this course with two local lads that had just finished Year 12. They showed me around the course, gave me the lowdown on the area, and it added so much to the overall enjoyment of the round. Oban: seafood, tours of the some of the western islands, and this gem of a golf course = an must stop on any tour of Scotland. As a lefty myself, Bob is my guy!
I've also been. What a beautiful spot. I hope to get back soon.
This course is like the mecca for lefties. The St. Andys for leftys.
Brilliant brilliant absolutely brilliant portrait. If any of the production crew - and in particular - the editor(s) are reading this comment; kudos, well done. I weeped a wee bit
If you can swing a shinty stick while running at full pelt, with someone trying to shoulder you off the ball, it makes a nicely teed up ball a little easier.
The best game of shinty I ever saw was the '96 Camanachd cup final where Oban beat Kingussie 3-2. Bob's dad Dougie got 2 of the goals and his uncle Gordon got the winner. The story of that game is proper Hollywood stuff, involving Gordon losing an eye in a game against Kingussie earlier that year, returning after just a few months, and coming from 2 goals down to win the game.
Wow
Awesome story
Pitch that (pun intended) to a studio--I'd suggest Disney--and I bet they'd take it!!
What an absolutley fabulous video, wasn't it?
I've heard that golf clubs based in communities where shinty is actively played have an unusually high proportion of left-handers. Is that true in your experience? I suppose it makes sense in that you need to be comfortable hitting the ball off either side.
@@plunketgreene3646 well as a former shinty player and left-handed golfer, I'd have to agree. There's definitely shinty players who hold 2 handicaps. One for left hand and one for right. Some of them are even in single figures for both!
Just became a fan of this young man and look forward to following his career. I always appreciate when folks are willing to share a small part of their personal lives.
Seems like a class individual. Easy to pull for - hoping he has a big year in ‘22
The subtitler didn't quite understand his accent at times.
Just a down to earth lad.
Yes. Could use some quality check on the subtitles, but all together a nice video. Enjoyed it.
well - hello - o there i'm part Scottish 57 yrs old right handed & Auttta pick up some good clubs again - & hit millions of balls this time around - Cuz nobody can beat Phil - if I were him & or Tiger Woods you could be counting on me to take at least 5 to 10 majors in the next 8 years - I woulda won that one Watson lost - 🔌😃🗿🕳⛳ lol I could go on & on same old jeff ( professional bullshit artist ) WOODS IS AMONG US
@@jeffiznik1456 what?
Ha, yeah, I noticed that. And I'm Australian, and had a little trouble understanding him myself from time to time.
Really enjoyed that. Keep doing what makes you happy Bob & all the success you wish & work for will follow. You’re a great ambassador for Scotland 👍🏻🏴
How very refreshing to see a 25 year old man not forgetting the importance of family and home. All the best Rob, that grounded attitude will take you a long way in life.
That was a terrific piece. Would like to see a lot more young, successful and we'll known people understand the need to be humble and understand what keeps them grounded like Bob. What a fantastic young man. His parents would be rightly proud. What a wonderful place in the world Oban must be. Makes me want to go there 👍
I had the pleasure of speaking to Bobs dad a good few years ago when I was watching a Scotland v England under 16’s international match at Dundonald links,Bob was playing as was Ewan walker who won on the challenge tour last week,Such a down to earth lad and deserves every success that’s coming his way 👍🏻
You've gained a new fan Bob! Quality down-to-earth film and a joy to see someone that takes pride in their roots!
What a lovely visit to Oban. We can now see why Bob is the way he is. 😍
25 and an absolute class lad. Keep it up good sir.
No wonder Robert became a professional golfer. That childhood course is the stuff of dreams! Challenging, tight, and beautiful.
Great..Respect..
I hope he is going to be really successful on the tours...
+ If Glencruitten golf club is open to the public, I will definitely visit and play over there from South Korea..
I've been to Scotland. I have family there. Near Oban actually, and I had no idea Robert was from there. My aunt lives 30 minutes up the hillside. Sadly I didn't play when I was in Scotland, but I definitely will next time. Maybe at that very course!
Really enjoyed getting an insight to his life, his family support is amazing
Well, what to say and nowt to criticise too!? Great attitude to life here and that’s what’s bringing you all this joy laddie! 74 year old soft sassenach her by the way! My first best friend was a scotty and many more since, and whilst I would sincerely be deeply saddened by Scotland leaving the Union, it would mainly be because I like the Scots and their ways so much! Look forward to watching your progress and all best wishes for your ascent to no 1 position! You’ve been blessed with great parenting and grandparenting too!
Robert your a class act, Love Oban !, I played Shinty against Oban ( agrueably Scotland's best team) as GAA hurler from Ulster, loved every trip.
These days I sail here every year from Northern Ireland in my 25ft yacht for 2 weeks and never leave without my pencil bag! You cannot do the Whiskey trail , without a pencil bag, hiking gear, and a mountain bike on board.
Excellent advertisement for golf and indeed sport .. such a grounded young man, love the transfer of sports. best of luck for 22
Hooray! A lefty! Watching and learning from right handers, I have to flip the images in my head. I'll be paying close attention to this young man.
I visited Oban on my trip to Scotland in 2018. Fell in love with the place. Didn’t get to play golf that day but it’s my first stop on my next trip
Congrats on your win today Robbie! Took home the trophy for Scotland 🏴
Didn't know much about this young man but now after watching this I'm a fan and will be watching his career with anticipation
What a great insight into this young Scot. A huge fan of Monty and McIlroy and now McIntyre. A very humble and loving son. Great to see Oban again. Wish him all the best for 22.
What an obviously nice young man . Totally down to earth . Let's see a few big wins next year !
i have known and been a fan of him since his first British open! just a pure soul that love golf and his family
Played Pro-Am with him couple of weeks back. He's a great guy and a brilliant golfer
I stayed just down the road from this course about 50 years ago and played it about a dozen times, fabulous.
It was also where I was struck on the head by a ball, played by another golfer, and it didn't hurt at all. I'd just finished playing the 5th and was walking off the green with my brother.
Those on the tee hit off a little too soon (the green is slightly obscured by a huge boulder!) and did apparently call 'fore'. Fortunately, I didn't hear and the ball passed through my hair, just scraping my scalp. Had I heard the call and stopped it may well have caught me full on the side of the head!
Was happy to see him win at the Canadian Open this past weekend. Well deserved!
That golf course looks tough as hell, Oban looks stunning and Bob seems like a top lad. Good luck in the majors!
What a fabulous video, Oban one of my favourite places when traveling up north! I will need to take my clubs the next time and play Roberts home course - looks fab!
Great seeing Robert up amongst the worlds great golfers, I am always looking for his score!
What’s with the subtitles? Great guy Bob. Great advert for Scottish Golf and success built at one of the lesser known courses.
I throughly enjoyed this profile of Robbie. I'll be sure to cheer for him in the future. Beautiful scenery, easy to understand why he loves his homeland so much.
What a gent Bob is, a true role model, he’s doing Scotland proud!
Great video of a really good lad. Given the turmoil golf has got itself in with Liv/PGA debates, it’s good to watch and listen to Bob. Oban and Scotland can be justifiably proud of him.
Top man young Bob….you’ve reminded me again why I’m moving back to Scotland after 38 years in England!
Great video, love seeing good guys succeeding
So humble, hard working, and talented. Great inspiration and sportsman!
He just did it!!! Made lefties proud!
What a soulful guy. I’ll look forward to watching his star grow
Love these types of behind the scenes documentaries showing a different side to the professionals off the course. Forget he's only 25yo as like Bob said. He's expected to behave a certain way when on tour in the public eye
Really? What "way" is he expected to behave?
@@touristguy87 like a professional golfer and not your everyday 25 year old
@@mawilliams1978 ...and what does that all mean, man..
Great lad, doing Scotland proud, lets hope he wins a tournament soon, and a big one at that, he is right Oban is a beautiful place full of fantastic friendly folk, a gem of a place
It was a pleasure to watch you play and at the Canadian Open … even though you almost hit me with the ball 😂 keep going Bobby!!! You are one of us 😂 lefties RULE!! 😂
Top chap. Lovely bloke, good luck with the future.
Just the berries Bob. Keep it real and you’ll do just fine - and thanks for the pleasure you’ve given over the last couple of years .🏴🏴🏴
What a great attitude this young man has,I’ll be rooting for him from now on
Me and a friend played there a couple of years ago and bumped into Bob's mam she was really friendly and we chatted for a while she had 2 kids with her that were loving life on the course .. Great course too going back next year
This aged so well! What a hero
This was beautiful. What an amazing story and person he is.
Having been following Bob on tour for a couple of years , his progress is brilliant.
This was a pleasure to watch. Such an amazing bio of a young person who is enjoying being alive doing what he loves with the people he cares about. Thanks for sharing. :)
Best of best RC! Bringing it down to earth! BRAVO Erik and staff!
Well done being true to yourself young man. You have a new fan.
What a wonderful wee film. Lovely person and no doubt supported by a wonderful family. Lang may yet lumb reek.
So proud of him doing us Scot’s proud he’s an inspiration to the likes of me who never chased the pro golf career and wish I had
Keep up the great run of form Bob
So crazy to watch this 2 years ago and then to see him win last week
Haven't been to Oban for years! Such a stunning spot on the West Coast of Scotland! Great video! Wishing you all the best of luck in upcoming tournaments!
So much time for Bob a great ambassador for golf, such a grounded young professional with infectious personally
What a good young man with true values. 👍
Never heard of this kid but I’ll be rooting for him. Seems like a humble, earnest, small town dude. Great swing
I think i just found my new favorite pro golfer
The say the grass isn't greener on the other side, but damn, that's some green grass right there if I've ever seen it.
top Man If only all golfers were this level what a sport wed have...Credit to his family
Super Rob going to make sure all my golfing mates watch this video.Have always thought that professional golfers are the best examples of sportsmen and women at any level, whether in the top 100 or top 500. Inspiring for all young golfers also.
That was a wonderful watch. I'm a huge fan and follow you with such interest, young Bob. Here's hoping for another great season and hopefully a couple of wins after the year.
What a lovely bit of film - such a good lad!
You just picked up a new fan Rob, awesome stuff brother you're a great guy.
Loved this, I will be rooting for Robert for the rest of his days.
I just find the lefty swing more smooth.flowing.
Look at left handed hitters in MLB,same. And i Mean some of the greats.
Love Mike Weir's seamless motion.
All the best to this kid.
Bob Is such a humble human being.
What a great guy. Kudos Robert, from another leftie!
Like him a lot, down to earth guy. The city of Oban looks beautiful. Wish him all the best going forward👍☀️🥇🏌🏻❤️
Scotland is beautiful, but if I lived there the lack of sunshine would put me in a padded room.
My wife and I stayed a night in Oban . We loved it soooo much.
What a cracking guy Rob is! My boss played his golf course, he nearly has a heart attack with the hills 🤣
What a top lad he is, gained a new fan south of the border. All the best Rob 👍🏻
Great video on a great lad. We used to go to Oban on holiday as a kid and I've got family who live nearby. Beautiful and unique part of the world.
As for shinty - brilliant game played by nutters 🤣
What a great insight in his golf life and how it all started for him. Well done 👍🏼
woohooo love to see lefty love in the game of golf, we always need it!
What a legend. Love from Onich!
What a lovely young chap a credit 👏 to your family and oban and to golf ⛳️
If you were not moved watching this young man and his father on the Green after winning the Canadian open you have no soul
He’s just won the Canadian Open with Dad on the bag. Congratulations
If there is a more grounded player playing any professional sport I've yet to here about them. Love the man and his attitude and a proud Scot as well.
