    I'm glad I got my 8320 about a year back for 120. There is basically no reason to buy an intel processor for gaming unless you absolutely hate your money.
    So enjoy spending double on your 4790s to gain 5 frames per second!

      @addromen 9 лет назад

      Kerrigan M true even on far cry 4 with the massive difference in the fps between the amd 8320 and the i7 the amd was still running above 60 fps and im ok with that....... pineapple

      @StoneAgedGaming 9 лет назад +1

      Lol... Fx8 CPUs can bottleneck a GTX 970. You may hit 80fps on a shitty fx8 but you will hit tons of FPS drops. Btw you can get a i5 and mobo for the same price of a fx8 and mobo because to achieve such high overclocks on these fx8s you need a high end mobo and high end CPU cooler to even keep,up with 4.5+ Ghz.

      Maybe you are saving money in the beginning but you still using twice as much electricity power you have to pay for in the future so basically people who buy the i5 is saving money on electricity power.

      definitely but make sure to oc to 4ghz+ very easy to do on those CPU. a ssd more ram or better gpu will net a much higher performance gain vs an i5 anyway

      +ronald4life1 Yep. The fx 800 cpu shit on anything within $200 when overclocked.

    • @ronald4life1
      @ronald4life1 8 лет назад +1

      Niels __ exactly they are beasts at above 4ghz which is VERY easy to do. Then with the $200 saved by getting an AMD motherboard and CPU vs Intel I5 and Intel Motherboard you can get a 240GB ssd and 16gb of ram. Huge performance increase right there!

    This CPU war is all about where the budget is limited at. If you happen to be a rich man/woman, then please go for Intel because to be honest, intel does rock in most of the game titles. However, if you are looking for the best performance/price ratio, then please go for AMD cpu because they are cheap and they are pretty competitive when it comes to gaming performance as well. I own AMD fx 8350, and I love how this perform when I'm gaming! I've also tested my system by changing the CPU and motherboard to Intel, and I must say that they are better in gaming, but at higher cost. So the bottom line is that, go for intel if you got money, or just go for AMD. pce

    4690k is the ultimate gaming cpu. There is no reason you would want to use anything less unless your budget doesn't allow it.

    • @YaseenJamalMustapha
      @YaseenJamalMustapha 9 лет назад +3

      I agree, its at the perfect point to where it doesn't bottleneck the gpu and also saves you some cash to spend on the graphics card

    • @Nukity
      @Nukity 9 лет назад +1

      +Yaseen Jamal Mustapha Apparently it won't even bottleneck a titan x sli, which is just crazy in my opinion. definitely the best cpu on the market right now. I would say the 6600k is right now, but 1151 motherboards and ddr4 memory really make it not worth it in the end compared to the 4690k

    • @YaseenJamalMustapha
      @YaseenJamalMustapha 9 лет назад +6

      +Hech Yeah I actually thought about the 6600k but the extra cost just didn't seem worth it

    • @sermerlin1
      @sermerlin1 9 лет назад +1

      +Hech Well if ur upgrading from 3xxx or 2xxx it doesn't make any sense... But for me It's a bit of a different story. I still have the old ass kickin Q8400 which i clocked to 3.5 ghz (yeah can go to 3.7ghz but i can't i need MB active cooler to cool that NB down) but soon it's time for me to jump to the current tech and use it until it grows old just like Q8400. I need good CPU because of audio production. Q8400 shows signs even at 3.5 ghz clock. When it's a big mix it can't hold all the effects. I can optimize the mix for more CPU power but i need active FXs so i can change if i don't like it etc...
      So you see to me 6700k would be a huge upgrade, expensive... But huge. Also it's very much overclockable which i love. In a year or 2 i could buy adequate cooling solution and OC the CPU to around 4.8 - 5 ghz and run it stable and cool like that until it gets old enough to buy another upgrade. :)

    • @Nukity
      @Nukity 9 лет назад

      sermerlin1 That's mainly what I think the new series is best at. If you have a newer, but still decently old i5 or i7, the upgrade really isn't worth it, but if you have a processor that's years old, and definitely far behind in performance, then it is worth it.

    What a terrible poop comparison. all CPU's are from different generations, all use different architectures, one of them technically isn't even a CPU, but rather an APU!

      ***** Intel lasts longer? What?
      So how you explain this? Those are my AMD and my friend's Intel that he bought for 150% price of my FX.
      www.3dmark.com/compare/spy/167784/spy/39849#
      Same with i7. I'm getting same fps in games and in benchmarks like my fathers i7 3770 .... so how the hell Intel lasts for longer time? Please use real life arguments instead of Intel "marketing".
      Regards.

    • @AirsoftAddicted
      @AirsoftAddicted 8 лет назад +3

      ***** you say AMD is hot .... my i7 3770k @ 4.4Ghz generates 86 C degrees ... if we are talking about temperatures. Without OC, both - AMD and Iltel are cool, running at similar temperatures. My 8350 is running 50 degrees max after 1h of full load, not bad for 4.3Ghz (on air).
      Stop making myths, both - AMD and Intel are cool and quiet, so like I've said - please stop with "Intel Marketing" if you have no idea what you are talking about.

    A Fx 6300 is about the same performance as a skylake I3.
    For a 100$ old CPU you have to admit that is good. Intel Fanboys can spend 130$ on Dual core shit that will Bottleneck any modern GPU.

    • @dazuza95
      @dazuza95 8 лет назад +2

      the 6300 is the sweet spot for price/performance though, don't know too many cpu's that can beat it purely on that.

    • @rodrigo-vl7bi
      @rodrigo-vl7bi 8 лет назад

      why dont you look for some benchmarks, the i3 6100 has only 2 cores and is the worst intel cpu, but it completely destroys the 8350 in games
      it also is cheapper, newer, and it consumes a lot less and has a lot lower TDP
      I am not fanboy, I say the true, I hope the amd zen series that will be released in october to be good processors, not like the FX series that were so bad, so intel at least would have some competence and the prices would be lower

    • @dazuza95

      armando esteban quito tbh the 8300 series weren't that bad when they came out, and even now perform well. I do agree that bulldozer was terrible though. But they do hold up well considering they are pretty old chips now.

      TheDutchGunners U also know it still isnt as good as a i7-4790k? the GHz is not the actual power you get from a CPU, you can have 5Ghz but if the CPU is shit, a 3.5GHz one can beat you
      and btw I easily could go on 4.8GHz but it already is pretty much OP

    • @LauraLolotheunicorn
      @LauraLolotheunicorn 8 лет назад +1

      TheDutchGunners It might be good but I also will upgrade my Strix 970 OC to one or maybe with the time two ROG Strix 1080 OC, I got 16GB G.Skill High Performance Ram on 2666MHz and an Asus ROG Maximus VII Hero, I want to play anything in UHD on Ultra settings and an i5 or AMD CPU isn't a good choice then. And we all know AMD isn't the best gaming CPU maker, even if the power per €/$ on their GPU's is pretty good..

      YellowPeaches Lol what did you play? Minecraft? the 4790k has got way more power, but sure its more expensive, but AMD could have made more threats in an 8 core cpu. The 4790k is on place 9 of the best CPU's whilest the 8320 is on 180. place. The effective speed is 68% higher than the 8320 ones. Thats why the 4790k is named Devil's Canyon.

I play DOTA 2 for 12 hours straight and did not experience any slowdown and CPU temp did not go up to 50 degree celsius and VGA temp. play on 67 to 69 degree. Never been wrong choosing AMD for my gaming rig.

    I have an FX 8320 paired with a GTX 970 windforce. I regret it, and I wish I had gotten an i5. Nothing about this video is wrong, it's just that some of my favorite games, like the Total War series, are very dependent on single thread performance. My bet on an 8-core CPU was a bad one, imo.

      LOL, how about you OC your chip? If you buy an FX chip, and leave it stock, that's your fault... I'm extremely happy with my 8 core 8370E, but I have it clocked at 5GHz, and my RAM is clocked at near 2133MHz.

      Firetor - It is amazing for games that use a lot of threads. Everything is maxed and smooth in Dragon Age Inquisition. My point is that CPU bound games are often bound because of poor distribution of the workload.
      It doesn't matter how much Chronicblazer overclocks his CPU; it's still not going to compete with a higher end intel CPU in performance per thread. That's not a dig at AMD. Their chips are amazing at what they do.

    • @chronicblazer84

      +Philip Boardman lol, CPU-Z gives my chip @4.8GHz 1500 points in single thread, while the 5960x @ stock speeds has 1580 points. so you're saying a 5960x doesn't have what it takes to run games smoothly?

      +AlphaLineGaming PC power consumption under 1000W is nothing compared to your water boiler or a fridge which basically run 24/7. 1-2% bill increase can be worth saving 150$ on CPU and buying a more powerful GPU. Plus, your CPU will produce more heat and your room will be warmer in winter, so your electric warming won't need to be used as often - there won't be any difference when you put it in "keep the room warm during winter" perspective.

    • @bliglum

      +AlphaLineGaming 8fps doesn't really seem like much to be scoffed at either.. Lots of people blow more money on stupid collectors edition games, or more on absurd amounts of ram, or needless showboat light up parts.. Nearly 10 extra fps is just about the difference between an entire graphics card tier, which interestingly, is also about $100! : )

    Hey so I'm kinda a noob when it comes to computer building and everything, and I understand most of what you're saying in the video, but my problem is that my AMD FX-6300 isn't 64-bit compatible. I don't know if they're supposed to be and I'm doing something wrong, or if I messed up when I bought it, but when I go to upgrade it won't let me. After looking on some support sites for how to upgrade, I found the app CPU-Z and after I ran it found out that my CPU doesn't have the requirements for 64-bit even though it says x64 based processor in the system menu for my PC (I'm using windows 10 btw). So I'm here to see if i can find a good CPU that is 64-bit compatible and will still have my computer running smoothly and all that, and I just want to know if anyone can help me? My computer savvy friends have given me mixed feedback and advice, and at this point I don't know what to do.

    • @jeymz420
      @jeymz420 8 лет назад

      Try installing a 64 bit version of your OS instead of a 32 bit one. FX 6300 is a 64 bit cpu, but in being a 64 bit cpu it is also compatible with 32 bit os. Just gotta install the right OS Skiz!

    • @CaramelFae
      @CaramelFae 8 лет назад

      Alrighty, I hear what you're saying and thanks for the advice, but I'm currently using a 32-bit Windows 10 OS. I just wanna upgrade to 64 and there are tons of guides online that show you how, however I followed their steps and got an error message, and when I used CPU-Z to check to see if I had one of the correct whatevers (AMD64 or E64somethingsomething) I didn't have either, so I concluded that I must either need a new CPU or somehow install those thingies to my CPU. Any advice on what I should do?

    • @CaramelFae
      @CaramelFae 8 лет назад

      yea, free upgrade from 8. BTW guys thank you for all your feedback and help and stuff, but I finally resolved the issue. It took about 5 hours but at least I didn't spend any money

    • @tylerweigand8875
      @tylerweigand8875 8 лет назад

      +SkizShot45 you're on 32 bit? Ah, that's the problem.
      You can't simply upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit. Instead you will need to reinstall Windows 10 with 64 bit.
      You can go to here to create a Windows 10 usb flash drive installer: download.microsoft.com/download/1/C/4/1C41BC6B-F8AB-403B-B04E-C96ED6047488/MediaCreationTool.exe
      Then just install Windows 10 on your PC. You can use the product key that came with your windows license you bought for Windows 8 (assuming you built your PC).
      Note: This will erase ALL your files, so make sure to have a backup if there's anything on your PC that you want to keep!
      Also, if you have more than 4 gb ram this should make it so you can use more than 4 gb ram on your computer! (32 bit can't use more than 4 gb ram!)
      Hope this helps! :)

    • @CaramelFae
      @CaramelFae 8 лет назад +1

      Tyler Weigand So, I think I said this a bit earlier, but I fixed it all. I have a 64-bit system and everything and I'm fine. I think I posted on this comment chain I got it all fixed and stuff.......so thanks for the advice, but I got it.

    I've been playing with a i3 1st or second gen processor for about 5 years. Attila total war was a wake up call in terms of needing a new computer, the campaign map itself was lagging at the lowest setting, just think how the battle map looked like. almost impossible to play. My friend has an i7 that is not too old but certainly not any new generation and his gaming rig out preforms mine by FAR. im currently building one for the future because i want to play the new Warhammer Total war the comes out and I KNOW my computer will not cut it. This video and the help of my brother showed me that i don't need a i7 to play games at the ultimate setting and have a good frame rate. now my future rig has a i5 picked out and isn't going to cost me $1000 dollars ($780)

I bought a couple parts at a time from newegg over a few months. When you plan on building a new pc, pick your processor first, then build from that. Don't cheap out on the motherboard & make sure it can run the fastest clock speed ram. Upgrade to a good aftermarket CPU cooler to avoid overheating during heavy loads & long gaming sessions.

    Results seem inconclusive outside of the benchmark. Problem is some games utilize the CPU more than others.
    Another problem with your testing is that you used different motherboards and didn't measure or calculate for differing bus speeds.

    It's actually pretty impressive that the Athlon 5350 can keep up with playable framerates even in CPU-intensive titles. People on a budget who want's current-gen console quality could probably look into pairing the processor with a GTX 750Ti/950 and get a rig that is both responsive and can play games rather well. The impressive thing is that you can probably play The Witcher 3 reasonably well with medium/high settings 1080p30fps for a fraction of the money it will cost to go for the i5 or i7. However, a i5 or i7 will most definitely be more future proof as modern titles tends to be more taxing on CPUs. Anyway, I'm getting a am1 for the living room, I could probably even go completely silent with a Arctic Cooling Alpine M1 passive and a semi-passive silverstone-sfx power supply :)

    You really didn't talk about any games with extreme CPU workloads, it was all games that offload the vast majority of the work to the GPU. I'd be interested in seeing how Cities Skylines stacks up between the newest lower end and higher end CPU's with otherwise identical hardware.

    I've seen a few of these videos now. It seems pretty evident that CPU's aren't really that important if all you wanna do is get 60fps at reasonably high-medium settings at 1080p. It seems like a better choice to get a lower end cpu, most likely AMD, over clock it to whatever you can get with stock cooling, and put more money into the graphics card.
    I've been researching a lot over the past week and ultimate opted to go with Intel and Nvidia i5-4590 and GTX 960. Not the most price efficient, but I do more than just gaming. I do a lot of work with Virtual Machines and I want to start gaming on Linux and in the Linux community it's pretty much unanimous that Radeon drivers suck on Linux.
    Happy Hardware hunting to all of you.

    7:45 of course the CPUs will perform similar if you have the graphics maxed out. This happens because not the CPU is limiting the framerate but the graphics card. So it's not a very meaningful test.

      Sorry but you'd be wrong. DX12 will allow the full use of the CPU during gaming, as opposed to using 2-4 cores. So for an 8-core FX cpu, who could only utilize 4 cores in a DX11 gaming environment would experience a huge performance boost utilizing all 8 more efficiently, in DX12.

    At the prices mentioned, it would seem as the 8320 is the actual bang for buck deal.
    But where I live, 8320 is actually slightly costlier than a i5 4440 (which performs on the same level, faster in some games), and just a bit cheaper than 4690 [ 4440 is around 11.5k INR, 8320 12.5k and 4690 is 14k ].
    In such a situation, I would find the i5 to be a better overall choice.

    I remember my instructor used an 8-core fx chip for a server. That thing overheated and overheated. This was before the chips came with radiators. We put a bigger heatsink on and hooked everything back up. Turned the power on and zap. The motherboard shorted out near the cpu socket. Had no idea what happened. Maybe the cpu was on its last legs when the rush of power came from turning it on.

    Still gaming with 3 1080p monitors, im using a watercooled phenom 955 @ 3.8ghz and 8gb ddr2 1066. My video card still is and always has been the bottle neck, started with an ATI 4890, AMD 6870, AMD 7950, AMD 7950 x 2 in that order. Only now (6-7 years later) do I genuinely think my £120 CPU is starting to show its age in real world use, although it never seems to be an actual bottleneck! It still outperforms my video cards generally speaking. Many may disagree.

    From thsi there really isn't a reason to get the latest CPU then. Knowledge that was already out there, but this veido certainly does prove it. All you need is about a $175 dollar cpu and youre golden. Unless the extra 5-6 fps makes a difference to you. Good video.

    Thanks for the interesting comparison using the lowly Kabini 5350 And the I7 12 thread monster. I was really surprised at how well the 5350 performed for such a low powered basic computer. :) I would probably get a Intel 6 core 12 thread CPU for future proofing and better single core threaded capabilities though.. Nice review :)

    Hey there. I don't think it's right comparison at all.
    1. First off, I think it's IS important to show overclock stats of the CPUs. It's quite vital piece of information, at least as gaming goes.
    2. Secondly, if you weren't planning to do any overclocking, why would you pick K chips for Intel? It makes more sense to take non-K chips as they are cheaper.
    3. Games that are represented in the benchmarks are not really that CPU-bound as far as I know. This review missing ones like Total War, Cities: Skylines, some MMO's, etc. In some cases CPU might be a bottleneck even with good GPU onboard.
    4. I might have missed it, but I think there was no information about motherboards at all.
