- In 2018, Entertainment Weekly reunited 'Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure' stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, along with writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, about the 1989 time-hopping fantasy the finds two wannabe rockstars who go to great lengths to pass their history class.
“Teen comedy scripts, they never had any kind of depth to the language,” Winter recalls. “This one seemed to be such an assault on that,” adds Reeves. “How do you not laugh at ‘Beeth-Oven’ and ‘Noah’s wife’? ‘Non-heinous.’ That’s funny!”

I was in high school in 1987, and I had the exact same history textbook Bill & Ted used in the movie. The fact they used a real text book was a nice touch.
Thirty years since I saw the first Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and these movies *STILL* make me so happy.
The films are pure uplifting happieness. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter seem like pure genuine, lovable friends and great humans, which is really important for a movies credability and longevity.
I love earlier films that *had* to use practical effects and go to *real* places; the less green screen the better, it's more human.
"It's not just a water sport, I knew it!" I'm 41 and that line still makes me laugh out loud.
I just love them both and I especially cherish their relationship out of the movie.
George Carlin was perfect as Rufus. Such a good film.
Keanu is such a good due. I like how hes letting Alex sort of have the moment and talk too.

Alex WInter is a quality filmmaker and auteur. I can see an alternate reality where Alex Winter is something more like our world's Wes Anderson or Tim Burtman.

MOST EXCELLENT! Wow, I haven't watched this movie in forever but seeing clips and remembering it just brings a smile.
It's takes a lot of humility to go "1/3 of the movie wasnt that good, and thats on us. We didn't know where to take it". Most writer's and directors would have said the movie was just misunderstood.
keanu legit looked like he did not want to laugh at the frat boy story... he seems like a legit good person

They sure had different success in their careers.
Alex Winter does far more work behind the camera, and plenty successful in his own right. That being said, I doubt anybody would've predicted Keanu's career after Bill and Ted!

While a memorable movie, I did not need 39+ minutes of showing the scenes and someone explaining what the scene had obviously shown. 🙄 Alex and Keanu's few comments about what it was like was ok. But it could have been summed up in less than 5 minutes. The nostalgia this brings back for me, was a good buddy and I going to the movie walking out being entertained by it and of course, doing the ridiculous dialog on our drive back home. 89 was a big year for me and my buddy. We went our separate ways to start our own journey in life. Getting married, etc. But this movie will forever be linked to a simpler time for me. A time where good friends(just like in the movie)hung out and were doing the HS stuff and planning for an awesome future.

Keanu has nailed it... and we are waiting with bated breath for their sequel.Bill and Ted 2 welcome.
Carlin was a great comic, perhaps the best ever, but in a cruel twist, what he truly wanted to be was a serious actor! That's why he approached this role, which otherwise could have been quite corny, with such seriousness. In my opinion, Rufus makes the whole premise of the movie work.
I saw the third movie in the cinema...I loved it!!!

Bogus Journey is so divisive when it comes to people I chat with about it. It’s understandable because of its tonal and structural departure from the original.
I remember as a kid going to the theater to see it and leaving thinking “what the heck did I just watch?”. It was a complete mind-f*** of a film, so weird and out there. I would say at that time a preferred the original.
Now that I am older I actually prefer it to the first flick. While the first flick is a more straight forward and more easily consumed movie I do love how balls to the wall the sequel goes with a ton of stuff. It’s like in Spinal Tap “this one goes to 11”.

I remember watching parts of these i was honestly an i'm going out to play fight with freinds and that never really understood alot bill and ted because id come in and out but loved the parts i renember. It bugged me because bill and ted the stage where met the time travel people i was like that floors out tbe dark crystal.i just never really got to watch bill and ted all the way through so that was more ok reltives negobours all watching these films . Loved the parts i saw but i was a kid who loved cartoons and bill and ted cartoon was yeah ok and the two aliens

"Excellent Adventure" was everything people liked about (and still have nostalgia for) the 80s. "Bogus Journey" simply didn't have ANY of those factors, and possibly BUILT on the things people hated about the 80s, such as "over the top" performances; we REALLY didn't need an introduction to THE ENTIRE Wild Stallyns Band

Love the movie. Illogical as all hell. If it happened in the future, it happened. Why do you have to go back in time to prevent something that didn't happen? That's ridiculous.
Like Back to the Future 2. The plot doesnt make sense. They need to travel to the future to stop something from happening.

I think the writers were right on the money with what the film is and tributed. Personally, I have always adored its nod to the value of education. One of my favorite scenes is when Ted says, "He was the teacher of Plato, who was, in turn, the teacher of Aristotle" and Mr. Ryan looks at the boys in astonishment. It's just so great. And it all fits together so well. How awesome is it that the two greatest humans in history, who "bring the planets into universal harmony" have such intimate passing with some of history's most regarded figures?
The second, yes darker, film keeps with this tradition. It is God-ordained and destiny that these individuals will bring about this great peace. Station and Station's robots are awesome!
The third film? Eh. What a steaming pile of woke, narrative-pushing garbage that was. It was a mess.
