The movies on their own are honestly perfectly fine. But after reading the books, it's absolutely no comparison.

when you look at it as a book adaptation, yeah, that's where people dislike it. not as a stand alone movie.
it’s a fine movie if you’ve never read the books. Like it’s not Oscar worthy but it’s still entertaining. But after reading the books it’s insulting that they tried to call it an adaptation cus it just isn’t lol. If i suspend my disbelief and pretend the books don’t exist for 2 hours, I can enjoy the movie.
There are so many iconic, fun parts of this movie! Poker face, Logan, Rosario. There are a lot of ppl who just hate it because it diverges from the books.The rest of us just enjoy it as a fun movie.
Logan’s Percy saying “its a pen” to him not being sympathetic or emotional when his mom “died” also Grover doing Micheal Jackson moves in the lotus casino and so much more also the movie is iconic for those reasons

The author himself, Rick Riordan, has been vocal about his distaste of these movies, and has actually written a letter on his blog to stop teachers from showing them during class.
Yeah but I watched it in middle school and I was reading the book and watch the movie and I didn't think about it until now that the movie didn't follow the book

@@Chuuzus he definitely wasn't. he wanted the teachers have their students read the books instead of watching the movies since they changed so many things about his work, and again, didn't follow the book whatsoever. they even changed the story in some cases

As a regular adventure movie, it's fun. As an adaptation, it's not it.

i think if you look at it as a stand alone film then sure it’s a fun movie but as a adaptation, it doesn’t compare to how well the show has portrayed the story and characters. I’ve loved the film since it came out when i was a kid but i’m loving the pjo series even more. the celestial trio is everything and kids today will be able to grow up and watch them on screen like ppl were able to do with the hp trio😭

I always loved this movie too, while I also understand it is nothing like the book, and in some cases it is lacking, I enjoy the movie for what it is, especially when you separate it from the book

It’s not that people didn’t like the movies, it’s that readers of the book didn’t like it as an adaptation. The author wasn’t involved at all and the studio was disrespectful about the way they were to him when they were making the movies, and a lot of the plot is vastly different to the books. As someone who read the books, the movie is fun when you completely disconnect it from the books. Typical mid-2010s movie for teens. The show had the author involved and it’s adapting a children series with children actors so obviously it’s not going to be exactly what people envisioned but the season isn’t fully out yet and people are jumping too quick to criticize. I’m sure things will get better in future seasons but I will say I’m not a fan of the 30/40 minute run time of episodes that Disney refuses to evolve from. It makes it a lot more difficult to get things done which is where a lot of the criticism is stemming from
"It's like high school, without the musical." Hmm, so simply a regular school, then? Also, Annabeth was a badass who helped Percy and Grover out of plenty of jams in the books, yet she's the designated damsel here.
I like to think this movie is just INSPIRED by the book series not a whole adaptation 🤷♀️

As someone who also watched the movie first, I truly loved it. Every moment was filled with action and the cgi was pretty good. Many can’t separate the movie from the book which is understandable but like if you’re able to, it’s really a good watch
I like the movies honestly. My one complaint though was how in first movie 2 characters were combined: Annabeth and Clarisse who was the daughter of Ares. In the second movie they had to hurry and correct that. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena goddess of wisdom. They won because she partnered with Hermes cabin using Percy as bait if I recall. But because they left out Ares entirely, they wouldn't have had anyone on opposing side hence why the but about her strategy is left out

You said “that’s his nephew that’s wicked”, however, I’m Greek mythology there is usually a familial connection between a lot of the gods, their parents, children, and they all fight a lot over various things. It’s a common trope within the movies and show, and just mythology in general.

as someone who watched this movie and loved it before reading the books/series, i understand why people think it's not good 😭 it's fine if you don't know the source material, but the books are a million times better than this movie could ever be and the story is way more cohesive and expansive. it just truly could never compare 😭 im watching the tv show right now and i think they're doing a much better job honoring the books while still taking their own liberties but it still also doesn't hold a candle to the books. i definitely recommend reading the books, there are very easy and fun reads and definitely worth getting into, especially if you're someone who's trying to get into reading or doesn't read often!

I personally think the movie is SO fun, even tho I loved the books and the movie changes the vibe soooo much. It's supposed to be a little kid 😅 but honestly it's still such a fun movie!! We just don't need to compare it to the book lol. The series is sooo good though if you want to check it out!!

- younger cast
- quest is very different from in the movies
I would recommend watching the first 2 episodes together to get all of the necessary info on Percy’s background, the demigod camp, and how the gods operate.

And then I read the series and understood why everybody was mad 😭 even the author doesn't like the movies LMAO so he got really involved in the new series so it's more accurate to the books. You should check it out when you have time (since I know you said you don't react to shows anymore) 🩷

I had so much fun watching this reaction! I was eating lunch while watching this video and there were so many times I had to step away from my meal because of how hard I was laughing. I watched this movie for the first time when I was in the 5th grade. My language arts teacher loved the Percy Jackson series so she had us read the 1st book and showed us both movies. We even split up the desks in the room to create cabins and then we brought in different decorations to represent the gods we were assigned to. I was part of the Hades cabin! I don’t remember much about the 2nd movie, but I didn’t like it as much as the 1st one unfortunately. 🌊

It’s a fun movie but nothing like the books. In the books they are 12 years old (Percy and Annabeth) except Grover bc he is a satyr. They don’t do the quest for the pearls, they do the quest bc “Percy must go to the Underworld, find the master bolt, and reveal the truth.”.

I'm sure people have already said it by now, but most people's problem with the film is that they changed so much from the book you have to wonder why they wanted to adapt it in the first place. The whole pearl fetch quest thing was added, at least two major characters were completely removed, some were added (Persephone isn't in the books until much later), and the ones they kept were given total personality transplants.
With so many changes, it's clear that whoever decided to greenlight this movie was only doing it to cash in on the title, with almost no respect for the actual work. As a film in its own right it's fine I guess, but it's an awful job at adaptation.

this movie is honestly pretty fun if you haven’t read the books or rewatched it so many times like i did as a kid😭still not great but fun! i think you would like the show if you like character and theme driven stories! the main characters are a lot younger so they feel like your little siblings 🥹 it’s a lot more emotional and focuses more on family. i’m really enjoying it so far and the episodes are pretty short (30-40 min each and only 8 episodes) so you could finish it pretty quick. love your videos it’s so fun to watch things with you! 💙

The complaints are its not a complete copy of the book, so if you never read Percy Jackson this movie can be an all time favorite since you're not hung up on incorrect details. The sequel is pretty good too, not as memorable as lightning thief in my option but still a great watch.
I really recommend looking into Greek and Roman mythology (2 different stories). Medusa has a really messed up story, but so does everyone else. Her full story (since you asked what made her hair snakes) is she was the most beautiful girl in the land. One day while she's praying in Athena's temple Poseidon sees her, and wants her immediately. He decides to assault her right there in the temple (or seduce depending on the person telling the story). Athena sees this and takes revenge on Medusa by making her the most undesirable woman alive, and makes her beautiful hair snakes that turn anyone into stone with one look in her eyes. It was really interesting to learn and it helps understand some of the references in these kinds of movies.

Persephone is the goddess of spring - that's why they're going for a near childish attitude and behaviour with her.
She's supposed to be with her mother in spring and summer (whenever she leaves her mother becomes so depressed that she stops everything from growing resulting in autumn and winter, and when she comes back she's so happy she brings new life to everything) so that's a mistake some fans were annoyed with - unless the idea is that because the political climate around the gods is so unstable she was kept in the underworld.
I’ve never read the books but I really enjoyed both of the movies!!

I agree Chu. The movie is fun even if it's not a very faithful adaptation. Meanwhile, while the show may be more faithful to the books, it's bogged down by excessive exposition and poor narrative momentum that can make the episodes a drag to sit through.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! PEAK CINEMA! I never read the books but kept up with the PJO fandom so I was excited for the movie, but didn’t hold any of the same expectations book readers held. I think that’s why I was able to enjoy it so much. I’m watching the show now and love it just as much. Both the movie and the show are great SEPARATE pieces of art. I’m not sure if you’d enjoy the show since it’s target audience is young kids and pre-teens, but if you like the books you should enjoy the show

So the reason it’s not liked among fans is because it’s so far from accurate from the book series. I saw this movie before I read the book and so I really liked this movie but after reading the series I did understand why book fans didn’t like it because they miss so much, they rush, they changed most everything there are very few accurate things to the book but it’s a great movie on its own. I would highly highly suggest after you watch the movies to watch the Disney series because it is done so much more accurately to the books, you get so much more info, and the writer of the books is working on the show with Disney to make sure everything is on point to the world and book he created!

I loved the movie because I was a kid when it came out and I hadn't read the books. To me, most movies that I watched as a kid were so good. I understand why people didn't like the movies in context with the books because Percy is supposed to be 12. I love the show because it has a chance to flesh out the world and even though I started the books, I am a very slow reader and won't finish it til the day I die. All I am going off of is the movie.
As a book fan, I hate that the movie isnt accurate but I can't deny that its a fun movie. I always say if you haven't read the books it's actually pretty good
