My assault was VERY similar to Nina's...except I was 13. My dad STILL asked me what I was wearing and if I encouraged them. That's how deep rooted r*pe culture is. A father will come up for excuses to blame his own daughter for her assault.
I am so so sorry you went through that, I can’t imagine how awful it must feel for a parent to put the blame on you. What happened to you was not your fault at all, you were an innocent child. I hope you’re in a better place now and healing
i’m SO so sorry that happened to you and i echo everything the commenter above said, i know it’s hard to really let sink in, but it was absolutely not your fault. you were a child. i hope that little girl inside can heal🫶
😢 I’m so sorry you went through something so painful and then had to hear something like that from your own father. Like, I’m curious what a 13 year old could have been wearing that would justify an assault for him. Because I can’t think of any level of nudity that would make me want to r*pe another person. Sending you so much love and hugs (if you want them) ❤
I love how they casted likable actors who are normally known for their comedic roles, namely Adam Brody, Bo Burnham, Chris Lowell, Connie Britton, Alison Brie and Christopher Mintz Plasse, to show that anyone can be either predators, or excuse sexual violence.
Basically her being murdered was the only way to get justice for Nina. Because he killed her, the motive has to come out as to way he killed her. The statute of limitations for rape has long passed. In order to defend himself he would have to say why she would come after him and admit what he did. However he would likely say it was just an accusation thus that's where the video comes in as proof. This ultimately get the justice she wanted because everyone would know what he did to Nina.
These people weren't teenagers when they did this. They were in medical school, they were graduate students. Cassie just turned 30, it was mentioned that Nina died 7 years ago, so these people were 22-23. They keep saying "we were kids", they were fucking adults.
They also act like it's common that kids r-pe people when most don't! That excuse irritates me so bad! I feel like when they say that they mean they were ignorant, but that doesn't even check out because they DID know better, but choose not to do better anyway.
@@NatalieLovesxo I think young people often misunderstand consent and have a lot of faulty ideas about it- like being in a relationship with someone is a kind of blanket consent so coercion doesn't 'count' in this case, or that coercion isn't force so reluctant or begruding consent is still indeed consent, or that a person's enjoying an encounter that they didn't consent to negates a lack of consent, or choosing to have future encounters or continue the relationship negates that lack of consent. I think many people engage in sexual activities that are not fully consensual and don't categorize those encounters as 'rape', whether they are the coerced or the coercer. And when we stop thinking of consent as a gray area, then we realize rape is actually extremely common. HOWEVER- no one thinks that drugging someone's drink and having sex with them while they are half conscious is a consensual act. No one in this situation doesn't know what they are doing no matter what lies they tell themselves. That is why Al absolutely doesn't want that tape to be seen, because he knows perfectly well that is does NOT show a consensual encounter, no matter what litany of excuses he rattles off. He doesn't really believe his own bullshit, deep down.
I've noticed that Cassie's parents never advice her to attend a grief counsellor, just wanting her to "move on." This shows that they're typical Boomers, who were expected to "just deal" with their own traumas.
I hate it that women always have to sacrifice themselves to get the little justice they are able to get from the people who's supposed to protect the innocents and victims. I'm just happy that Cassie gets to reunite with Nina even if it's the afterlife.
The fact is, that if the school had done something to the boys (and girls) whom where drugging and rapping others, then non of this needed to happen. The victim could grief and attempt to heal, while the people that did wrong would pay for their crime.
Emerald Fennell asked her father in law, who is a retired police officer, how long it takes to smother someone to death. He told her two and a half minutes, which is exactly how long Al murdering Cassie lasts for. And afterwards, we don't see her face, cementing her as an anonymous murder victim.
It also highlights how much it was NOT an accident! Like he had to sit there for over 2 minutes smothering her and could have stopped at any time but no, he wanted to and knew he was murdering her 😢
I love how this movie upset so many men on the internet, for the wrong reasons. If you felt personally attacked by it, then I think you need to address why. That’s a you problem. The call is coming from inside the house, my guy.
Idk if you’re referring to this guy specifically, but he definitely didn’t feel attacked by the movie. He was on Cassie’s side the whole time. Honestly he just seems like an actually sweet person.
The fact that she dies is infuriating and sad, but it also shows how far a woman may have to go to be heard. On a different note, Nina had already passed, and it had been years since her SA, so I don't know how much time he would get on that, but with murder on top? That guy and his friend's enabling doomed them. So thank you, Karma, for being Team Cassie & Nina's. Angels of Justice.
This movie was so powerful and painful at the same time it's scary how many men get away with this behavior and assault. I've only seen this film once and can never watch again tbh it was quite triggering but still necessary
Ironic and disgusting and rather telling that one of the more prominent criticisms (men) had for this movie was that the actress for Cassie wasn’t attractive enough to make this movie believable🙄🤮 Also you should definitely react to New Girl that show is truly hilarious
Which is always the defense of a predator. “You’’re not hot enough for me to want to assault you.” One of the dudes from the beginning literally said that to her.
The way her murder is played for laughs when the men are discussing it was a kind of commentary on those The Hangover-style movies where women are faceless and disposable and we're supposed to find humour in male characters doing extremely misogynistic things. It packs a gut punch this time though, because we know and love the female character, but most of the time, viewers just brush past that misogyny.
I was on a flight next to a man in his 60s watching it on the free airline movie channel…his wife was tired and fell asleep. I saw him pause several times, almost in awe that it does happen. When his wife woke up and asked him if he liked it, he said it was difficult to see it on screen and couldn’t imagine being the girl going through it. I got to see a boomer becoming an ally in the making and that is exactly why we need these movies 33:33
It's interesting that so many men were shocked by this movie, whilst so many women were shaking their heads in acknowledgment. The vast majority of women get assaulted at LEAST once in their life, usually by a self-proclaimed "nice guy". Every woman is told all the same things Cassie is told, " I was young, I'm not a bad person, you should "move on", it was so long ago, you were drunk, you were wearing revealing clothes, etc. This movie also shows quite accurately why most women don't come forward. The woman or girl in question is simply called the W word, she is told to let it go, the man's future is more valued than hers, the woman or girl is written off as "crazy", isn't believed, is told she exaggerated. Women often don't any means to "fight back" without knowing it could cost them at lot, potentially their life. I'm very glad the movie wisely cast "likeable" people as the perps, because this is true to life. While it's sad that Cassie dies, it also realistic in that women often have to pay the ultimate price for any sort of real justice. Sad, true, and heartbreaking honest. Every teen boy and young man should have to watch this movie.
One thing I like a lot about this movie is the way it handled SA without being graphic like Luckiest girl alive with Mila Kunis( It was soooo triggering )
When Laverne Cox asks Bo Burnham, "Have you ever killed any children?" Bo responds "No...." He did kill a child--- Nina, indirectly. Galaxy Brain moment!!
So apparently the original ending didn't have ol dude getting arrested and they decided it was too upsetting to leave it like that. But sooooooooo many times that's what actually happens 😢 and the title is a take on what was said about Brock Turner's rapist self "a promising young man" 🤮
@indiefairy09 I get that but it might've been too depressing like Get Out's original ending. These things happen in real life and it's nice to atleast have a bittersweet ending where justice is served (somewhat)
Cassie’s life imploded the day Nina took her life because of the trauma of the rape and not getting justice. Cassie was punishing random men and she was only focused on avenging Nina. She knew she was probably going to die. As unfair and as awful as that is Cassie was able to get posthumous justice for Nina and really for herself. New sub here. Thank you for having the courage to watch this movie. I look forward to more of your content!
I love the symbolism in the names and framing of the scenes. Cassie is often portrayed with wings, like an avenging angel. But, her name also refers to Cassandra of Troy, whose prophesies no one believed until it was too late. Nina also means 'little girl', emphasising her friend's young age and being just another insignificant girl in the system.
I love this movie even though it's so painful to watch... but on a lighter/more fun note, the ring light is reflecting in your glasses and giving you googly eyes and it makes me giggle. Maybe this will make you smile too. Hugs. :)
Emerald Fennell is a genius! The first time I watched it I couldn't believe what I saw.. Fennell won an Oscar for the screenplay but she was also nominated for directing. According to Carrey Mulligan Emmerald had a playlist which she sent to all the actors as a moodboard and Toxic was on it twice. Can't wait for Emerald's new movie Saltburn!
But that’s the point the women never deserve to die but we are we’re killing ourselves or getting killed, but no one cares because we gotta protect the men’s promising futures
Thanks for reacting to this! It’s a hard to watch movie for me as someone who has been assaulted multiple times by men. Your commentary made it easier to watch.
Thank you for reacting to this, Chu. ♥This film changed my life: It helped me realise that my own experience (similar to Nina's) was not my fault after years of holding it inside and blaming myself. Thank you for handling this topic with sensitivity. Love your channel.
There was a documentary put out by a group of college girls who'd been assaulted on campus but no one helped them. One girl, in an attempt to get some coverage, started dragging the mattress she was assaulted on to every class as the boy wasn't even removed from school and was in some of her classes. Anyway I went to see it in Berkeley, CA; that was about 15 years ago. I think its still happening. Its usually just a few guys on campus who are causing 90% of the assaults but they are usually wealthy kids and no one will accuse them.
Yessss at you acknowledging the greatness of Tinashe and how underrated she is! Much like this movie did not get the attention it deserved either but we all know these trash men would not let that happen 😭
Great movie but I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it in full again it was too upsetting and what’s worse is how realistic it was to things we still have to deal with everyday
Chu!!! You should do a reaction to Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley!! It's like the perfect campy movie to watch for the spooky season ❤
The woman who played Cassie (Carey Mulligan) has been nominated for Oscars multiple times. One of them for this movie! My love for this movie is unparalleled. I grew to adore the ending.
Hi Chu! I’m so excited to watch you react to a film that I finally got around to watching recently as well. Watch whatever you are up for and we will watch! For sure!
You hear stories like the one of Artemis, the virgin Greek Goddess of the hunt, turning a young hunter into a stag and having him ripped apart by his own dogs because he (either accidentally or planned depending on who's telling the story) saw her bathing naked and stayed rather than looking away, and sometimes a bit of you wonders if she went too far. And then you hear about stories like this, and you wonder instead if Artemis didn't have the right idea. I know we can't compare the story of a literal goddess to that of a story of regular humans, but still.....you start to wonder if men like that deserve it...
Speaking of Greek mythology, Cassie's name refers to Cassandra of Troy, whose prophesies no one believed until it was too late. Nina also means 'little girl', emphasising her friend's young age and being just another insignificant girl in the system.
@@hellogoodbyeandallinbetweenYou'd think the Dean would've wanted to know why Nina would have dropped out when she was the one who was the top of her class.
This movie is a hard watch, but I really like the way it was done. I made my teenage son watch it with me last year because I wanted to counteract some of the messages he was getting from the media and the culture and….ugh.
They were kids, but Nina was a grown woman who put herself in that position? They really are choosing the narrative to favour them. Nina means 'little girl' , it's so clever and devastating 😢
It actually bothers me that some people would have a problem with this movie; blaming it's "feminist" tones. Yeah, there's a reason for that, because this shit actually does happen.
you said it in the first 2 minutes of the video. i don't trust "nice" guys. that encompasses the entire film. they were all "nice" guys. the director was brilliant in every aspect of this film. casting the funny guys as the perps. showing just how long it would actually take to smother someone and how he had that entire 2.5 minutes to stop. how she became just another victim and was disposable. while it infuriated me, bo's character being given one last chance as redemption when being questioned by the police about someone he "loved" and he said nothing, just like he didn't say anything when nina was attacked. the lawyer scene broke me though. i am so glad one man owned up to what they did.
watched this in the theater with my sister (we wore masks y’all, just had to go support bo and my girls) and you don’t understand the sense of defeat and dread that set in the room when we thought cassie dying was the end🧍🏻♀can't wait for you to watch the director's, emerald fennel (aka pregnant midge from greta's barbie) second film "saltburn" once that comes out on digital (probably early next year) starring barry koeghan, jacob elordi, and rosamund pike (and ewan mitchell, who played aemond targaryen in house of the dragon, is also in it) verrry excited 💋
I felt soooo let down and upset when I first saw this movie, possibly because of the marketing. I went into it super certain that she was going to be killing all those guys she encountered on nights out, not just scaring them, so I was stoked for a cathartic revenge type movie. And what I got instead was sooo bleak and the fact that not even one man dies! Not one! I was literally so angry, like for days. I guess ultimately I feel like it was more of a movie for men, the thesis of it being "don't be a r@pist", because I don't really feel like it was teaching women anything they didn't already know. I think I was just crestfallen that I'd gone into it thinking I was the target audience and then ended up with a totally different experience than that. So I guess what I'm saying is....if anyone reading this knows of any actually satisfying r@pe revenge movies....lemme know lol
The movie “I Spit on Your Grave “ is one that comes to mind. I like how you said, it’s not like it’s something women don’t already know. We all know it.
"Blair Waldorf's husband!' LMAO. Excuse me, sir, but to those of us still stuck in the early '00's that is THE Seth "Christmakkah" Cohen. The only truly redeeming thing about The OC. But I won't lie I did fangirl when I found out two of my favorite reel life characters' actors were married in real life.
Carey mulligan is a fantastic actress! I also hate this kind of ending. I think they did it well but it just hurts to see :/ If you're looking for something different, i suggest you watch 'shame'. Its definitely not reaction suitable 😅 because of subject matter and overall nudity. So it would have to be on your own time, lol.
I never experienced this type of thing but I’ve had multiple male predators in my life. It’s crazy how much men deny women’s experiences. This stuff happens waaaaay too much. I feel like every single woman on this planet has experienced a man displaying inappropriate behaviors towards them…and a lot of it happens when we are literal children. Then men come complaining about “not all men”…but it sure is a crapload of men if we have all experienced this at some point. They like to say women can’t ever be accountable for their actions but it sure seems like men have the extact same issue that is 100xs worse.
Great spirits meet , I watched this for first time 2 days ago after hearing about it left and right .I was still shook , mostly by all her different outfits the bangs really changed her face and mostly end ...I was shouting like GIRRRLLLL WAKE UP FIGHT BACK
This movie was way too real! They didn't market it right of how far they were going to push it! As someone that was assulted this movie put me in a comatose state where I thought my best friends bf who I love and adore and know he would never even think about doing something like that I was scared that he was going to attack me in the few minutes we were alone together. Turns out he had a panic attack at the thought of him feeling like I wasn't safe around him. It made him cry!
You can watch fun animated “horror” movies like frankenweenie, paranorman, corpse bride etc! Or like the Addams family, Or maybe B-rated horror for laughs lol idk😂
Omg i love your reaction❤ If you're not looking for a horror movie you should definitely watch Dont Look Up (2021) Its a star studded movies and your faves like Jennifer Lawrence, Kid Cudi, Timothy Chal😅
Not this movie oh god I’ve only watched it once cause I refuse to watch it more times even tho it’s good and I do love it the plot and everything about it I just get so mad and angry haha
I wanted to see Cassie get revenge for Nina, and I guess at the end she does. And there were parallels to Ryan being a bad "nice guy" and the "nice guy" we see at the beginning and other hints that I thought was clever. My one critique though is Cassie using r-pe as revenge towards Madison. It's really not something I'd wish on anybody. In order for that to happen, there would still be r*pists. And I hope nobody was cheering during that scene. You could argue the movie doesn't try to make her look good for paying that guy to do something with her, which also, he is majorly to blame for going through with it seeing how drunk she was and didn't get consent from her directly (also the way Cassie knew the guy would go through with it even though no one in their right mind would, confirms the pattern of so many men being willing to take advantage of women). But the movie does reward her with evidence because now another person has gone through this immense trauma. At the end of the day, I would hope it wouldn't take someone experiencing trauma to empathize and care about another person. Like we also saw with that teacher with the daughter not care about Nina but suddenly shifts her perspective when she thinks it's her daughter.
So MaXXine 2024 will be like this film 🤔 Has the same story and from the trailer, I saw she also goes to clubs. Im waiting to watch it 👍🏽 Carey Mulligan is a good actor though. Barely recognised her in Saltburn and she was so sweet in The Great Gatsby😍

Omg! So excited you watched this!! It made me so mad but the end was at least satisfying.
Definitely fits under a scary movie! Lol
like it's real life horror!
Chu!!! You should do a reaction to Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley!! It's like the perfect campy movie to watch for the spooky season ❤
So good!! ✨
It sucks that Cassie died but I’m glad she got Justice for Nina.
The casting of the good guys is pure genius, till this day the best reaction I’ve seen to this film is “oh no not Mclovin” that took me out
The woman who played Cassie (Carey Mulligan) has been nominated for Oscars multiple times.
I love this! Thank you for this “food for thought” comment.
This is arguably a horror movie for women and feminine people, especially since it's, unfortunately, all too relatable. Extremely well done though!
i love how invested you get in this videos!! this movie definitely left a lasting mark on me. i'm glad you enjoyed it too!!
This movie is a hard watch, but I really like the way it was done. I made my teenage son watch it with me last year because I wanted to counteract some of the messages he was getting from the media and the culture and….ugh.
This movie was so good but so infuriating. I wanted them all to pay dearly!! The acting was incredible. I loved the score too.
Film what you want and what you feel like filming Chuuz💕we will be here alwaysss
I realize how twisted this film is but for me it's a master piece ❤ great reaction..
Impeccable timing for this movie considering the twitter thread of guys talking abt how they know they start hating their gfs….
So we've all seen that horrendous thread 😪
They love saying they were kids. In the USA you start med school at 24.. they were not kids!!!
They were kids, but Nina was a grown woman who put herself in that position? They really are choosing the narrative to favour them. Nina means 'little girl' , it's so clever and devastating 😢
So smart of her to scratch Monroe - it was basically always a suicide mission
It actually bothers me that some people would have a problem with this movie; blaming it's "feminist" tones. Yeah, there's a reason for that, because this shit actually does happen.
I’m never trusting another Adam Brody character again after this and Jennifer’s Body.
ready or not too. he really wants us to forget seth cohen 😭😭
For real, I adore Adam Brody but everytime i see him in a movie i think "THAT cunt's the evil one!"
I love when Chu reacts to these types of movies. He’s such an ally to women!! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
Bawled my eyes out at the end of this movie. So powerful. 💔
Being a survivor of SA, this movie is true HORROR.
I'm so sorry that happened to you
It’s cathartic.
you said it in the first 2 minutes of the video. i don't trust "nice" guys. that encompasses the entire film. they were all "nice" guys. the director was brilliant in every aspect of this film. casting the funny guys as the perps. showing just how long it would actually take to smother someone and how he had that entire 2.5 minutes to stop. how she became just another victim and was disposable. while it infuriated me, bo's character being given one last chance as redemption when being questioned by the police about someone he "loved" and he said nothing, just like he didn't say anything when nina was attacked.
the lawyer scene broke me though. i am so glad one man owned up to what they did.
This movie hit hard people take advantage of people of venerable people and say they f@#$ing deserve it or asked for it.
The ending had me punching the air and shit... can't wait to get angry with u 😂❤
Omggggg the way I wanted her to be faking! 😢😢
@@kenyonsgirl415 Right ! And at the same time... It's the ending that makes the most sense unfortunately.
@@urgh9822exactly.
watched this in the theater with my sister (we wore masks y’all, just had to go support bo and my girls) and you don’t understand the sense of defeat and dread that set in the room when we thought cassie dying was the end🧍🏻♀can't wait for you to watch the director's, emerald fennel (aka pregnant midge from greta's barbie) second film "saltburn" once that comes out on digital (probably early next year) starring barry koeghan, jacob elordi, and rosamund pike (and ewan mitchell, who played aemond targaryen in house of the dragon, is also in it) verrry excited 💋
Revenge from 2017. Probably my favorite of that subgenre.
"Blair Waldorf's husband!' LMAO. Excuse me, sir, but to those of us still stuck in the early '00's that is THE Seth "Christmakkah" Cohen. The only truly redeeming thing about The OC.
But I won't lie I did fangirl when I found out two of my favorite reel life characters' actors were married in real life.
lmao in my defense i haven’t seen The Oc 😬😬
@@Chuuzus 😮😱😫
Him: I don’t feel like watching scary movies this month
Me: Ummm, don’t let the bright pink color scheme fool you 😂
The fact that they keep saying “we were kids”, “I was a kid”, even tho they were in med school. So like, early-mid 20s??
Carey mulligan is a fantastic actress! I also hate this kind of ending. I think they did it well but it just hurts to see :/
If you're looking for something different, i suggest you watch 'shame'. Its definitely not reaction suitable 😅 because of subject matter and overall nudity. So it would have to be on your own time, lol.
That scream when he smothers her. Haunts my dreams.
This movie’s score is iconic.💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻
oof this movie pisses me off so fkn bad that i don’t think i can watch this one, so i’m here to like & comment for the algorithm ✨
This movie ia so good but so triggering, I could only watch it once.
i love this movie so much but God does it make me mad!
I love how you nailed the idea of this movie in the first few minutes.... beware the "nice" guy
Buckling in for the trauma 🎉
Oh this film … 😳 I’m excited to see your reaction
I’m so glad you reacted to this - this movie is so important
EVERY SINGLE (GIRL) FRIEND THAT I HAD IN MY LIFE, THEY HAD BEEN AB*SED *AT LEAST* ONCE. ALSO ME.
*THE GUYS, THEY ARE ALL STILL FREE*
Omg i love your reaction❤
If you're not looking for a horror movie you should definitely watch Dont Look Up (2021)
Its a star studded movies and your faves like Jennifer Lawrence, Kid Cudi, Timothy Chal😅
Love ur content Chu, Can u do Scary Godmother 1 & 2 next if u have a chance to do so cus its a nostalgic classic of the early 2000's
You migh tbe ADHD and not bi polar, they seem a lot alike.
This movie is worse than any horror movie though 😢😅
Horror realness served
The love that Cassie had for Nina.....I'm emotional-
Petition... please watch Friday the 13th on Friday the 13th. Its too perfect not to.
Not this movie oh god I’ve only watched it once cause I refuse to watch it more times even tho it’s good and I do love it the plot and everything about it I just get so mad and angry haha
i love your reactions, you always have so much empathy for the characters 🥲🩷
If we want something similar there's 'She Said' also starring Carey Mulligan.
Glad u uploaded because I am on an emotional roller coaster walking the cold streets chicago. The ending was somehow satisfying
I adore this movie, it's so good!
Um so glad i watched you're react to this its fn crazy
1min into the movie AND YOU ARE ALREADY MAD same
"Dr. octopus" 😭😭😭
Pale people LMAOOOO!!!!!!!
I loved this reaction so much! This movie is so good, so powerful
I mean I completely get the ending, but honestly it’s not satisfying enough for me to fully watch again 😅
Glasses look so cute on you Chuu!
So MaXXine 2024 will be like this film 🤔 Has the same story and from the trailer, I saw she also goes to clubs.
Im waiting to watch it 👍🏽
Carey Mulligan is a good actor though. Barely recognised her in Saltburn and she was so sweet in The Great Gatsby😍
This film is so important, and I greatly appreciate your support for victims of this violence.
