The cinematics used to open a games story are always completly different from the actual gameplay.......just look at any Blizzard or Bethesda game.

I so agree, I preordered the game and played it even when they stopped supporting it. The game play was lacking but the story was so good it deserved a much better game.
@@alericc1889 If you still have an copy of the game, I pre-ordered when it came out as well the collector's edition xD, then you should check out the London 2038 community. There is a team that runs a free to play on private server for the game and do updates every week or so. They are trying to keep the game alive after all this time :)

For the living
I had high hopes for this game when it came out. Great concept and you could tell that they took some elements from the Diablo series in terms of game mechanics; it had the potential to be as good as Diablo 2 or better. But with all the recycled environments and almost every NPC being a "joke" character, the game felt like it was some last minute rush job that tried to cover up its failings with meta humour.
This is on my list of forgotten games that desperately need a remake.

@@getous yuppers. A trilogy, following Simon Cross, a lost Templar who comes back to London after the hellgate first opens, and finds out his father died in the Halloween battle. And one of the antagonists….shit I can’t remember his character name but I really liked it. Grew up in a super abusive home, always had these “abilities” and since the gate opened the abilities are even stronger. Worth the read in my opinion
*but the antagonist gets persuaded by one of the Named demons to help him do some shit, the guy gets his hand cut off, and the demon lord guys cuts his own arm off and gives it to the dude. Idk, they were pretty decent

To clarify, at 11:19, this is a game custcene and the witch lady is giving you (the player) new powers. You then beat up the big bad and then the next custscene where your friend who you thought was dead (or something) betrays you and banishes you. Then you play the next expansion.
Said buddy was, in gameplay, left to suffer a growing connection to a rising Elder demon. This eventually kills him and rips his body apart... but the Elder demon is still in there and simply animates the body. He then follows in the wake of the war against Adonai and thanks the player for leaving him a job opening.

Man when I saw the first two trailers I was pumped. Sadly, there were problems with driver support from Intel, Microsoft, and game bugs that plagued launch. I played it afterwards for awhile. If it had the funding similar to Blizzard titles I believe it could have been a lot better. Knight Templars are very cool, we need to go down that route more often. Nothing like good versus evil and vis versa. 👍🏻
So wish this IP would get back into some reputable dev's hands. It'd be insane to keep making an MMO. But a darksiders like game ... god dayum! It would be sicc

I was told this was the closest to DEFIANCE game, but totally different feel... I REALLY wish someone would buy the DEFIANCE I.P. and recreate as a stand alone game people could play on PC/ XBOX / PS5 just modify the code to run a more streamlined version on the home system... no MMO needed and people could even download their old characters and buy additional DLC from the publisher.
Eating my member berry cookies, still wish I could play this game again. Great potential, just died from mismanagement.

It is a cool setting and premise. I wonder if a decent movie could be made in it.
TL/DR for below - I have too much time on my hands.
A movie that ends with a one-way world-wide assault on the Hell-gates to buy time and create pocket dimensions for survivors underground might work.
Humanity has succeeded (multiple) times in the past in pushing back various Hell-gate incursions. But in modern times humanity fails. Hell-gate forces are able to covertly start a nuclear war and the huge number of dead are used as sacrifices to open a vast number of gates across the world.
Human nations realize too late what happened, but the various Occult and Knight orders around the world are able to use magic again, leading to the plan of assaulting the Hell-gates to siphon off enough power to put survivors into a pocket dimension for x amount of time (decades) giving the people there time to train and build magical items.
Basically Independence Day except "winning" the last battle = humanity has bought time to prepare for a counter-strike.
By making every region of the world have their own variants of Templars, you can get broad audience appeal, especially China/US/India. It turns out that the Mayan/Atlantis/(insert local lost civilization myth here) was humanity being able to seal a Hell-gate incursion with the magic that came out of it. Once it was sealed they lost their magic armor/items and were weakened to the point of collapsing.
First part of the movie would be the various secret orders around the world trying to warn everyone that the Hell gates were coming, and normal society laughing it off. Hell-gate forces are able to do a combination of mind control/false flag attacks to trigger the nuclear war.
Next part is the surviving military/civilian leadership quickly realizing the unauthorized launches, false flag attacks, etc had been the demons work. 1. The more dead their are in a region the higher number of Hell-gates in that region. 2. The forces from the Hell-Gates are trying to kill all humans in the world. 3.The crazies (secret orders, Templars etc) were right and they also have access to magic and magic power gear is coming to life again.
Queue characters trying to rally remaining forces, come up with the plan to use the power of the hell-gates/sacrifices to create the pocket dimensions so the survivors can train in magic and build magic gear for a counter attack in the future.
Final part is the suicidal attacks around the world. Humanity will need to fight in x years/decades, so most people over the age of X (40ish?) are the ones to make the assaults and not placed into bunkers. Parents/elders taking the equipment and weapons from their children is a logical and straightforward scene.
TL/DR - Bored.

I do wish the cutscenes telling the setting history were included in this, but it is great to see the game's cinematic parts as better than blobs. Thank you!

Late, I know, but I felt I should add that the "book" cutscenes I referred to above are voiced/narrated by the Elder demon of the final scene after Adonai dies, he's even seen burning the book after seeing you off.

Someone needs to revamp, redo, or reboot this game. Maybe like an indie, community project. Or Kickstarter stuff. Played it for quite some time back in the day. Very cool concept, definitely had potential.

@Гораций Молчаливый the doom marine or the doom slayer is the demon killer he is as old as time and absorbs the souls of those he kills. It is literally built into the demons genetics to fear him.

@Гораций Молчаливый I never said they weren't. In fact, I think they're cool, too. But compared to the Doom Slayer, who has had literally all the time in existence to fight demonic legions, Templars are basically just mortal people in power armor. Doom Slayer is practically a god on steroids that never stopped working out at the gym. He just doesn't like to flaunt his power and is very focused on what he does best.

Like, I know the actual reason is cause this is a mid 2000s game that still had ridiculous fanservice, I'm talking about the in-universe logic.
