    I was always impressed with what the humans were capable of in this battle. They held their own as long as they felt like Inarious was there to protect them, even though by the look of it he really didn't do a lot to help them, since all he was worried about was Lilith, and getting back to Heaven. It's unfortunate that their spirit broke when Inarious fell. Maybe one of these days the humans of Sanctuary will realize what they are capable of on their own, and not rely on the power/protection of an angel or a demon to lead them.

    The man killed his son and tried to kill the mother of his child. I'm surprised how the characters thought after seeing this that the prophecy was still about Inarius stabbing Lilith, rather than Lilith stabbing Inarius, "then came a spear of light, piercing Hatred's heart", Inarius didn't stab Lilith through the heart with the spear of light but rather the belly, Lilith did stab Inarius in the heart. Inarius was the heart filled with hatred, hatred for Lilith, Hatred for his son, for Sanctuary, for mortals, for himself, and for the choices he made.

      "Personally, I think if anything would have done it, it wouldn't have been a sense of hatred and being a victim of the consequences of his own choices. Maybe, maybe if he had looked at his son, at Lilith, at mortals, and Sanctuary, not as abominations he hated, but as souls that had to suffer the consequences of his sin, maybe if he felt remorse for what his decisions inflicted upon them, instead of what those choices cost himself. Even Lilith, yes she is a demoness, with all the flaws of one, which he knew full and well when he decided to join with her, hating her more than he loved her for things he knew of her before he bonded with her, making a child he that he considered a failure, his own failure, not his son's, the fact that these choices he made caused these mortals he hated for weak and easily corruptible to be such. @@music79075 Yes and no I think?
      After Lilith and Inarius disappeared, the angels and demons started to look for them. They could've let them go and continue fighting but they didn't. This shows that no matter who disappears to find happiness outside the conflict, whether there are powerful children or weak "food" children, they will be forced back into the conflict and said children will be harmed.
      Lilith predicted this and birthed strong children and strengthened them to end the conflict so that she may have that peace (and thereby granting Inarius's alleged dream of ending the conflict). Whether it's Inarius's pride/jealousy towards his own children or his desire to stand on top of everything, he's the key as to why her plan initially failed-the reason why Sanctuary is close to being destroyed and why the (nephilim, now) human children are suffering. "Prime Evil" Inarius sounds about right.
      Lilith's killing of angels and demons to protect her children is par for the course of motherhood. It's a very emotional act that you wouldn't expect from an angel let alone a demon-emotion not found in immortal beings. Lilith is 100% different from demons and angels-a real being that can and will care for the nephilims/humans (as long as they'll accept her)!
      And if you really want to argue that "they're more powerful", the same could be said about Anu and Tathamet. Why didn't the angels and demons unite to kill them both? That's just an excuse to "justify" killing including them in the endless struggle. Screw angels, screw demons!!

    Damn ... Inarius had ZERO ring rust. Imagine what a beast he was in the Eternal Conflict, he smashed that balrog easily.
    Wish there were a bit more battle scenes but these cutscenes are expensive and take time. The knights never ever had to fight at close quarters until they lost hope. The fallen never breached the phalanx before that, must have been hot there, those knights were mentally strong. All that armor and then the uber hot lava plus fireballs raining down? I wonder how much size the armies were on each side? 5000 knights vs god knows how much demons probably. It was probably a suicide mission anyways for them, if they didn't have enough manpower to secure the rear and flanks they would be cutoff, no supply. They hoped for a quick decimation and rout of the demon army. All Inarius cared for was killing Lilith and then ascending, and he would have left them all alone, he just used prava and the knights as a pawn while secretly hating them, calling them an abomination, he was always a selfish git and an arse as Lorath said.
    Interesting the demons are not as mindless as portrayed and do have fear and hesitation.

    This whole scene… I don’t know whether to call Inarius Hypocritical or just a flat out idiot, but I know it’s ironic: Inarius deceived his whole following into thinking he was the hero who was destined to save them all and end the dark times, rewrote a prophecy even HE didn’t even understand to suit his own purposes and feed his own ego and arrogantly deluded himself into thinking that by killing Lilith, his fellow angels would let bygones be bygones and he could come home, no strings attached. Lilith, on the other hand saw the writing on the wall as clear as day and spoke the absolute truth the whole time that neither Heaven or Hell wanted either of them back after the stunt they pulled with the worldstone and creating Sanctuary, she was only allowed back in hell after she made a deal with Astaroth, one of the few remaining demon generals of high enough rank to still have “The Keys to the Yard” so to speak, and she was absolutely right that Inarius’ murder of Rathma accomplished NOTHING in the long run but rob Lilith of her beloved son and the Heavens didn’t care anyway, cause WAY long before things even reached that point, Inarius was dead to them for creating Sanctuary in the first place. Lilith is the one trying to empower humanity so that when the lords of hell do return, they can adequately defend themselves. Inarius had already considered them failures and given up on all of them and used and abused them into helping him get himself and HIMSELF ALONE back into the High Heavens and whatever happened to them afterward? He didn’t care. He was home. And as for the prophecy, HE DIDN’T EVEN PIERCE HER IN THE FRICKIN’ HEART LIKE IT SAID!
    I apologize in advance if this sounds callous, but Inarius is like a super powered deadbeat dad who’s trying to bail on child support while Lilith is stuck at home trying in her own dark way to give her kids a better future at any cost. The only ones I pity here are Prava and the Knights Penitent. I personally don’t fault them for any of this, in fact THEY’RE as just as much victims of Inarius’ lies as anyone else. I believe they were genuinely good people who desperately wanted to see the light at the end of the tunnel just as much as anyone else in Sanctuary, but he used them, filled them with false hope and when the time came he marched them all to their deaths for a plan that was from the very start doomed to failure and robbed Sanctuary of possibly it’s most effective and remaining protectors while Hell’s armies are free to run around the world almost unopposed. Inarius had his fate coming, but what he shouldn’t have done is drag people who believed in him because of a cause based on a lie, and people HE DIDN’T EVEN CARE ABOUT ANYMORE down with him. It only causes unnecessary tragedies like this and robs people of their real heroes and they deserved better than what they got here: hearing the death screams of their god and being left alone without hope, faith and a way out.
    Lilith was right. Inarius BELONGED in Hell.

      Inarius was given away by the Angiris council, left to be tortured in Hell by Mephisto for eternity, and he wants to go back to heaven, why? The reason he was arrogant in the Sin War trilogy is because he felt like the master of his own domain with Sanctuary, as far as we can tell he is back in exactly that position with no explanation/context and until Lilith arrives, with no one to contest him. Why would he want to go back to Heaven? The prophecy itself would be deeper if it was the midpoint of the story, not the end, with more context for Rathma, Inarius and Lilith... Honestly as soon as I saw this cinematic teased I knew D4 has wasted it's narrative potential, I'm just incredibly disappointed.

      I was NOT expecting him to out-right be murdered when I first saw the glimpses of this cinematic. I really thought he would just abandon them to chase Lilith, but to see them lose hope when they hear him die, and then be overrun by demons was gut wrenching.
      Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the ending with Lilith dying (isn't she just gonna be reborn in hell) and Mephisto being trapped (maybe he's gonna be free again?) and what about his brothers? Are their spirits reforming in their own realms too?

      Seems very unfair to Inarius but then I haven't been keeping up with Diablo lore.

    • @GunmetalRaven
      @GunmetalRaven Год назад +41

      @@woulfhound The two of them basically agreed ages ago that the Endless Conflict was sort of pointless. So they stole the World Stone together and with a few other dissenters to the conflict, made Sanctuary. For awhile, things were peaceful. Sanctuary had demons and angels - and their nephalim offspring living together - without the influence of Heaven or Hell. The issue became that it was pretty soon realized how strong the nephalim were. Considering lore wise, all angels/devils are shards of Anu - it makes sense that a being that is basically a rejoining of those shards would be stronger. There was talk of killing the nephalim off for fear that they might be used as a weapon against the other side. They were seen as abominations. Rather than make a choice, Inarius basically went to think about a solution. That left Lilith with the other angels and demons, who were still pretty keen on killing the nephalim. She chose violence to protect the nephalim and humans, and killed off any that would raise a hand to them. Eventually Inarius returned and made the World Stone weaken nephalim. Every generation would be born weaker and weaker, until they were mortal humans. But even then, they could prove to be stronger and a potential weapon to turn the tide towards whichever side they chose.
      Ultimately - the memory of where they came from was removed from nephalim / humans for the most part to further keep them weak.
      The result is they started developing cultures and some of them were gifted in magic. Some of the magic users could summon spirits. These spirits were actually demons. Which lead to Hell finding out about Sanctuary first. That lead to a discreet attempt to sway humans to Hell's side with a religion. This gradually escalated - to the point that both sides realized that Sanctuary existed and that nephalim were strong / even in human form when they awakened their nephalim nature. One of them chose to sacrifice themselves to protect Sanctuary from both Angels and Demons - basically - humans chose to be left out of the nonsense. Tyrael witnessed this sacrifice, and realized that humans / nephalim had good in them. So when the archangel council decided what to do about them - He chose to spare humanity. This was along with the angel of hope. And an angel who had a scroll that foretold the outcome of the conflict.
      The choice was made to have a sort of stalemate for awhile - and to leave Sanctuary out of the Eternal Conflict. Inarius was given over to Hell to sort of seal the deal. He had abandoned the Heavens, helped steal the World Stone, and had lead other angels to breed with demons in order to no longer participate in the Great War. So he was punished in Hell by demons for eons.
      So he comes out regretting his choice. He laments the existence of humans and blames them for keeping him from being able to return to the High Heavens. He doesn't accept any responsibility for his choice. He just wants to return to heaven. And as a continued show of that, he murders his own son. The son he had with Lilith. A son who by all rights taught that there should be balance and who trained necromancers in the art of balancing the good and evil within them - and who taught them to use the undead to fight demons.
      He's a craven, honorless bastard. And honestly, he deserved a lot worse than what he got. Lilith isn't wrong. He does deserve damnation.

      @@GunmetalRaven Thank you for clearing that up and for the recap.
      Still, it sounds like heaven betrayed Inarius, not the other way around. I did hear that Inarius banished Lilith to the void at one point and that's why he was tortured in hell. It sounds like the two were meant for each other since Lilith is a sociopath anyway.
      ...but yea, killing his own son just to get the approval of the ones who had abandoned him was a very sad thing to do.

No. But all this happend because of the Eternal Conflict and because his own bretheren have given him to the demons. • @GunmetalRaven
      @GunmetalRaven Год назад +6

      @@woulfhound He's actually banished her to the void twice. The first time was when he got back and found she'd killed angels and demons while he was thinking of a solution. She did it to protect the nephalim but yeah...
      The second time was when she found her way out of the Void and tried using the humans to help her win the war to capture Heaven/Hell the first time. And wiping out the Church of the one and the church of the triune ( which was a front to get folks to worship the 3 strongest primeevils).
      That lead to a human awakening his nephalim abilities... And well Tyrael witnessing his self sacrifice to protect Sanctuary from both sides.
      The 'ceasefire' on Sanctuary was basically agreed to by him being given over as a prisoner of war.
      Lilith isn't wrong though. The only way to stop the conflict is for someone strong enough to overthrow Heaven and Hell and hold power. The nephalim would've been able to do that.
      You'd think the angels wouldn't be so damn naive as to think a demon would keep a promise though. -_-* And it's the demon half of nephalim and humanity that makes them leave the humans in Sanctuary to suffer. It's not like courting good favor with humans would win them to their side or anything.
