    It is terrifying that those interviewed think that those people who need support do not know how to manage money, when the reality is that people who are in poverty are acutely aware of exactly where every penny goes out of necessity

      Why should the man who is poor be content when all that his children will inherit is universal credit or whatever benefits are in place. A class of people living not on a working wage but instead on benefits. It's not the Labour party it's the Benefits party.

      It's quite obvious that this refers to the distinction between those who die primarily of Covid and those who die after receiving a Covid diagnosis. There are also the huge societal upheavals that occurred at the same time as Covid, to which some of the supposed excess may also be attributed.

      @@Peter-ov6xh like the huge number of people who died because they couldn't get cancer treatment. All the hospitas were full of COVID victims so they couldn't get treated, life saving operations were cancelled. So what did Boris do? He built a temporary ward which was never used despite all the fanfare. I hope that the review into the government's handling of the pandemic is truthful and names names. A staggering amount of money was lost due to some very Dodgy dealings by some very prominent politicians. Let the families have their say in court.

    The problem is that many people interviewed are just not able to think outside of their own experience. They either can't or won't empathise because to do so would mean they have to consider the lives of others rather than just themselves and the role that they might play in other people's misery. I find it difficult to watch, with a mixture of anger and sadness.

    As a "key worker" who worked the entirety of the pandemic in retail, imagine being told that you don't deserve the £20 a week because you lack the skills. The last year has proven that low-skilled jobs are just as essential as high-skilled jobs, yet we get slapped in the face with that. Unbelievable.

      The system is rigged against you. Simply swop the words "poor people" for "business elites" into Thatchers speech, and you have the accurate antithesis to her argument. Neoliberalism runs a social security system for the rich - that's why they wrote the laws that way. Now, they can just give billions to their chums and tell you lots of lies. Brexit is a marvelous distraction.

      @@Jay...777 Absolutely correct. Also, the pandemic provided a useful smokescreen behind which Tory cronyism/nepotism corruptly handed over a fortune (in public money) to their chums. The deaths of thousands of plebs from Covid was probably regarded as a bonus, as the savings on social welfare could also be redirected to "needy" Tory millionaires. Absolutely sickening !

    This right here is what journalism is supposed to be, talking respectfully and honestly with those you disagree with but pulling no punches in asking questions that are straight to the point. It feels like in the time of social media it's those that shout loudest and most aggressively that are heard but in reality it does very little to further the dialogue, videos like this do the exact opposite and may actually have the impact of changing minds. Brilliant.

      It isn’t their job to deal with poverty. In reality there is no governmental solution. The best resolutions lie in education, opportunity and individual responsibility. The government has some influence over the first two. The latter is of course the hardest and most important.

    As a university educated person, currently unable to find a job within my sector (travel) & having to work minimum wage to live & have never accepted a hand out from anyone...I can barely survive. Many people like myself want to work, are willing to work & better themselves...I dont smoke, drink or even drive atm, but I want to enjoy the little things so that my life has some joy...This vlog of sorts saddens me that people less fortunate than myself will suffer more.

      Part of the problem is the contradictions in their thinking aren't challenged enough. It was interesting that some mentioned the desirability of higher minimum wages and more powerful unions when their cognitive dissonance was put on the spot. Normally though, they can safely ignore it and just go along with the flimsiest rationalisations for their worst instincts.

      My Nan was Thatcher's head cleaner. I went to her private home a few times. Strange story but true. We have a big huge dog teddy in the family that Churchill gave to Thatcher. I'm still trying to educate my older relatives about the Tories.

      It is the function of government to provide equal opportunity. If you want to give better quality education to kids of rich families, you give taxpayer monies to the private schools those kids attend. You want to give kids of poorer families “equal opportunity”? Provide that money to public schools and fund social security so they can start their race closer to richer kids. This is not complicated. Destitution is largely driven by bad public policy beginning with unequal funding of eduction. The Tories basically want rich kids to have an unfair advantage

      Yeah all the answers to the covid question were: "we have aging population/obesity epidemic/underlying health condition etc."
      The question is Why were those people able to get covid at a higher rate than other countries not why did they die rather than survive.
      The reason why is the horrendous negligence from the tories in the interest of the economy rather than the health of us, the expendable public. That's the reason why you can't say our handling of covid was a solid 8 you bunch of tweed snakes.

    After the Universal Credit cut, I will have to take care of my wife and myself on £317 a month. She is foreign, has no access to NHS or any benefits. We are both over sixty and have come to UK after living working abroad. I am a UK citizen. She is not.

    So basically what they're saying is '.. people aren't really poor, and if they are really poor then they're not managing their money because they're probably playing bingo, smoking and drinking, and I have no idea how much universal credit actually is, but if it's £75 a week like you say then those recipients need to sit down and learn to manage it or pull themselves out of poverty because it's self-inflicted..'

    My step-dad's father was old and very fragile. He had a fall in early January during the height of the pandemic and had to go to hospital, where he caught COVID and died alone shortly after without his family around. But he was elderly and had underlying health issues, so I guess according to the Tories' logic his death was not important ?

    10:50 - This lady who advocates for £20-25 per hour for workers, but to be enforce by conscience and not law, is totally deluded. Before the National Minimum Wage, "conscience" is what dictated how much workers were paid and it was next to nothing. Totally out of touch lady.
