@@ShelbyVia I've passed out once and was on the verge of passing out a couple of times and each time I knew exactly that something was wrong. The only time I passed out was when I was donating blood and I felt my legs and arms going numb, felt extremely nauseated and was getting tunnel vision... the later couple of times were also pretty similar except I managed to not pass out.

House, as a show, is made for the viewer, as modern medicine is usually quite boring to watch. The script demands they jump to conclusions before finding some one symptom that eliminates all possible solutions but one.
Furthermore, the time the physician checked for the pulse wasn't intended to be medically accurate - it was supposed to be a high-tension moment that required speed. They spend certain amounts of time on certain actions for pacing.

    • @billd3356
      @billd3356 4 года назад +22

It's not. Cake is extremely unhealthy. NO physician would prescribe a high carb diet, rich in sugar. Except the ones who believe in the Food Pyramid, and the ones who tell type 2 diabetics that they need to be eating 150 grams of carbs per meal, and you of course HAVE to eat 3 meals a day, and breakfast is the most important one of course.
I think this was House's way of getting her to understand. Even if you are in top physical shape, you take in too much sugar and it starts damaging you big time.

But in reality had cheated, had gotten a gastric bypass, something she was terrified of anyone finding out. And almost died in the process. @@Psychesrose you can't be "medically obese" and a healthy weight, idiot. The term obese literally just describes people of a BMI outwith the typically healthy range for an average person. So a body builder can be obese, but a low weight person with a high body fat percentage literally cannot be considered obese. Yes we can still get diabetes and the health issues related to obesity as a result of poor diet, but the term obesity still isn't applicable.
I'm just saying she doesn't necessarily need to get fat even with adjusting her diet to accommodate her medical needs. Jesus. She just needs to eat some fucking pasta and opt for chocolate cereal instead of fuckin porridge. Snack on chocolate instead of apples. It doesn't have to be all or fucking nothing if the condition is managed with medication. Refusing to adapt her diet at all would be fucking suicide but it is completely possible to be an "attractive" size and eat carbs. That's all I'm trying to say. Way to demonise a healthy diet, dickbag. I probably eat better than you do. I'm a recovering anorexic and I can tell you right now - this character has a fucking eating disorder, and likely so does everyone who thinks her behaviour was in any way rational. What you've just said to me is probably the worst thing you could possibly say to an anorexic "doesn't matter that you're skinny - if you eat any food I arbitrarily apply a negative moral value to - you're still a fatty on the inside." that's literally shit my anorexic brain tries to tell me. Updated.
Having an eating disorder I sympathize with her. After 2 years of starving myself I decided to recover and gained even more weight then before in a couple of months and faced all the fears that led to a disorder in a first place. I keep telling myself I'm doing the right thing but honestly I hate myself right now
UPD: It's been a year so I thought I'd update this. Thank you for all your support in comments. I had came here a ton of times when I felt bad about myself and your kind words saved me so many times from relapsing. You are wonderful people and I appreciate you all.♥️
Hey, I'm doing better! Not starving myself anymore, I recently skipped a breakfast and was like "I'M HUNGRY, I WANNA EAT", like, I can't stand feeling hunger now, amazing cause before my recovery journey I couldn't even feel hunger cause I was so used to just ignoring it. That made me think I'm gonna be fine very soon.
Some things still trigger me, but I'm so much better, not obsessing every day about my weight, my appearance. I'm at about 65 kilos right now (145-ish pounds) and I didn't suddenly become uglier or less worthy.
If you're struggling with an ED, I hope you'll believe me, recovery is so worth it. It will be hard, but you will get better. You deserve it. You are beautiful, you are worthy, you are loved.

That's because you're not doing it right. The more you starve yourself and do cardio , the more your metabolism drops and the greater the weight gain when you splurge. The proper term is *excessive* fat isn't *usually* healthy. A healthy amount of body fat is at least 2-4% in men, 10-12% in women. Less than that is not healthy. The maximum acceptable percentage is 18-25% in men, 25-31% body fat.
Also, while some people are obese, they aren't at risk as much as people think. Most large people who have health issues are much larger than the patient was.

Excessive fat is never healthy. By definition. That's why we call it excessive.

As a Doctor I loved this show, but just an FYI, an echo has to be done by a trained cardiologist, a gastroscopy by a gastroenterologist, surgery by a surgeon, pulling a blood clot from the brain by a neurologist, and so on.
Also Doctors only order an MRI and Xrays, they don't actually put the person on the machine and run the computers that control these machines, that stuff is done by technicians or radiographers.
Also only pathologists and haematologist ever look through a microscope, all other Doctors don't.
Blood tests are also not actually done by Doctors. Doctors order and sometimes draw the blood. The actual blood assays and lab work is done by technicians.
On House, every Doctor does everything, including the job of the nurses, technicians, radiographers, and all specialities. That is just BS, and is not remotely close to medicine.
The good Doctor suffers from the same issue by the way
Scrubs, a medical comedy, was alot closer to reality.

You can lose 50lbs and your body is still going to try to get back to being 50lbs heavier because it's been programmed to recognize that body as it's normal. Even with regular exercise and diet. The only way to maintain the loss is making working out and dieting your full time job. Which no one can realistically maintain unless you work for a gym. Really it shouldn't be about losing weight. It should be about being healthy because many people out there are healthy and also fat. Whereas skinny people can be unhealthy because of lack of exercise and diet. Yeah, but for any acronym to make sense, you have to give its full name first and then the acronym. That would go over the head of most of your audience. You've got to remember that most patients aren't in a place to digest such information when they are being treated, and that people like you are a minority in society. Especially as education around the world except in a few societies is being underfunded.

BigHenFor Doctors don’t call it Tri Acyl Glycerides, it’s just referred to as Triglycerides. Full chemical or biological names are irrelevant to patients and doctors alike. In med school we hardly are expected to know the full name of many abbreviations.

I hope you never found out. I did need a gastric bypass reversal to save my life and I had weight regain issues due to meds, starting almost 7 years post rny. I had 18 hospital admissions between gastric bypass and reversal. And I help people globally with gastric bypass complications that are catastrophic enough where reversals come up.
I say this with kindness and empathy, unless anyone has had severe complications where a reversal gets brought up by a bariatric surgeon, it's a lot of work to try and help people save their own life and I'm not a medical or mental health professional.
But I hope if you've had weight loss surgery you never know from catastrophic complications. Because it boils down when I have to fight really hard to help someone see they will die without a reversal, which doesn't necessarily mean weight regain, without it, a patient will be dead. Being thin and dead and being buried in maybe a teeny tiny coffin.
I wish you the best and that you realize you aren't alone. But I had to say something because for what I do as a non monetized activist, I face patients who feel the same way they do and if I'm not good at what I do, in addition to their clinical professionals treating them in person, they will definitely die and I'm grateful to not have had a patient who found me about reversal issues, had the same fear you did and decided to risk death vs. a reversal.
I've had families though of patients who let themselves die and found me afterwards and it's the saddest thing ever.... Peace...

It's about subtlety when it comes to House. Some would applaud your brilliance, maybe even give you verbal praise and perhaps a promotion or some academic award! Not House. If you get a questioning side-eye or a raised brow from him, it's akin to him writing out the most perfect referral letter. You caused a "House rethink situation", that's a real achievement.
