Tom is the kind of customer we would love to see coming in at the NAPA where I used to work. Always some old story or joke that would have us all howling
Junkyard Digs before hitting up a Veteran’s day free meal at Abblebees with the boys? Sign me the hell up! Happy veteran’s day Kevin, enjoy yourself a free cold one if you can 🍻
I love the Dalton comments around the 36 minute mark. I remember watching one of his video's where he was working on the underside of whatever vehicle he was working on......he had about 9000 self tappers sticking out of the bottom of the floorboards.
Thanks guys, Tom as well, for making a hard day a little easier. Had to call working on the project tonight. Phantom limb. Smacked my stump into the frame on the wife's truck, time to go in, sit back, and have a beer about it. But we got it prepped for powder coat, and loaded on the trailer. Hook up, and take it in Monday. Lol. Yep. Doing this one right. Tribute to a daughter that may as well have been ours. Patina sleeper, dentside lightning project. Started when I had feet. Think a derelict version of Dodge's Adult Toy line of the late 70s. Had my wife and me smiling and laughing when we needed it. Our daughter is an only, but Maddi was like a sister. Married a month. Remember those days. Wife and I hit 18 recently, and see a similar dynamic there, since Mook first joined your videos. That, okay, they are close but How, feeling. Same one people had about us since she made her move. Keep that dynamic, you've got this. Congratulations, Kids.
Oh wow, Tom's story about backfiring and popping mufflers finally taught me why my 64 Galaxie 500 did that. We'd be driving, I'd turn the key off, coast a little bit in gear, and turn it back on to same amazing backfires, and sometimes flames. Never knew it was because it keep pumping fuel into the exhaust and would like when I fired he back up!
One time I was overheating in my celica and I decided to coast down a hill with the ignition off to let the engine cool down but still circulate the water in the cooling system, turned the ignition back on and BANG, like a gun shot all the fuel in the exhaust ignited. Thought I'd blown the muffler up, luckily it was fine.
My parents had a 1973 Pontiac Catalina, 4 door, with a 400-2 barrel. It was fast! Talked mom into pushing the car over 100 mph, once, on a 4 mile straight blacktop in SE Iowa. Enjoy your videos and the revival of classic vehicles and old machinery.
My parents had a two door 1972 Pontiac Bonneville, black on black, that was shaped a lot like this Catalina. Sucked down the gas and rode so smooth. I drove it in high school sometimes. Good memories.
My Dad bought a 73 Oldsmobile 98 off my grandparents in the late 80's. The top was peeling off but the glue was holding well. Instead of cleaning off the glue my Dad used white house paint and painted the roof of the car. From about 20 feet it has the nicest white roof. 😂
My mom had a '72 Pontiac 4 door Catalina (brown without vinyl top) --- 400 Pontiac, 2 barrel carb ---- we drove that thing almost forever with pretty much no maintenance ----- "built like a tank" described this vehicle
Tom's repairing the car with the same philosophy I do anything: It only has to last a couple of years, and then I'll be dead and it won't matter anymore.
Here is a tip for a good product to make a roof look like vinyl. I had a Ford Granada that had a really bad roof. What we had done on that car years ago was "Rocker Schutz" by 3M. Check it out , it is a great product and works really well for a roof! Here is a small example of what is said about it , "3M Rocker Schutz Coating is a tough, chip-resistant coating developed specifically for restoring and protecting rocker panels and similar vehicle areas during collision repair. This coarse-textured coating can be easily thinned and tinted to match OEM textures. Spray-on coating is very easy to use: it is tack free in as little as five minutes and paintable in as little as 30 minutes."
At 13:19 the turning off the ignition yet coasting at speed to put unburnt fuel into the muffler then turning ignition back resulting is a loud bang was called, at least around here, key banging. My brother did it all the time on his 79 f250. He stopped after replacing the muffler 2-3 times. The last muffler only handled one key bang and it was completely blown apart.
Going to school for automotive technician theres 2 tools that make drum brakes a dream. One is a anchor pin compressor looks like a screw driver and the other is for the return springs. Makes it soo much easier
First congratulations on getting married....all the best to the both of you. 2nd thank you for your service to this country.. monday is to thank people like you that served. Always look forward to your videos....angus was a good add to the crew u 2 def make for some good laughs
Tom’s a legit genius. I was watching cringing thinking it looks awful. But the final product after polishing looks absolutely mint for the cost. 👍🏻👍🏻Well done!
Big thanks to your channel. Every time I think I'm going to be willing to spend $5k on a classic car like this, your videos remind me I lack the tools, time, space, and money to do a project like this. Why, I'd say you have saved me thousands of dollars in all honesty haha.. Now, I have found quite a few retired fire engines for ~$5k maybe look into one of those next haha.
Tom’s laugh is contagious. He is a pure legend on this channel. Well done boys ! The Angus tasting licorice part made me laugh as well as the father waiting to see what color it was part. Omg you guys are so great together. The only thing missing was the booger scope. Congrats you two. Oh and a new Bronco Kevin ?!? 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for that fun a great video. Took me back to my "pimpmobile" days in So. Cal. when I tooled around in a blood-red Pontiac Grand Prix with tan leather interior and a gorgeous sunroof.
I had one same year and style but in the gold/brown freckle color. Great 400 and auto transmission. It was great driver when I had it. Sold it to get fuel efficient car. Never had anything nicer to drive!
My Dad had a 79 Catalina which I remember taking and passing my drivers test in back in the day. I couldn’t imagine parallel parking in something that big nowadays, but I did. He had that car forever. I think he got over 200k out of it before he sold it to some kid for $500 and the kid drove it for awhile. Oh yeah it had the black vinyl top on it. He always liked the vinyl top on his cars. The memories.
KEVIN I KEEP NOTICING 2-3 FOX BODY MUSTANGS IN YOUR VIDEOS AND YET ITS BEEN YEARS AND YOU HAVEN'T DONE A SINGLE VIDEO ON THEM. WE DEMAND FOX BODY CONTENT BRO! PLEASE!!!!
Mom's car when we were kids was one of these in metallic gold. Same White vinyl top and shoulder belts guaranteed never to be used. Brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks!
I had a 1973 two door version of this car. That motor had a whoppin 180 HP out of an 8 cyl. Mine had a lot of trouble with the transmission, it broke twice. The motor stayed running though, it's no wonder, because it was a huge displacement motor with next to no power output.
A guy just down the street I went to school with... his first car was same year and model as this one his was olive green....great content & wishing you all the best!
My dad had a ‘72 Grand Ville and it looked identical to this car. It was dark gray with light vinyl top. Fair warning: The dual-yoke universal at the back of the driveshaft is going to be trouble. If you can find a donor car anywhere I would go ahead and buy one and put new U-joints in it for when the one in the car grenades. Good luck!
I’ve had and still own many many cars ( over 40 now). But I’ve always been partial to Pontiacs. I’ve got 6 currently. I noticed the 66/67 GTO. I have a 67 with factory dual gate a/t and #’s matching 400. Also have a 65 tri-pwr 4 speed 360 hp #’s match. Others are a 62 Bon 2dr bubble top, 62 Cat conv. And two 62 GP 4 speed cars. Nice job on the roof!
Just started watching the video my grandfather had one of these bought it brand new and 72. It had a 455 in it. I’m looking forward to watching the video.
Angus is a brake line master, those look amazing! And he's drinking a Yeti imperial stout? Hell yeah brother! Tom is a legend. You have some fantastic friends.
1:00:30 Tom On 26th January 1971, the Tire Identification Number, more commonly known as the ‘DOT code’, was introduced. *BEFORE* 2000, they had a 3 digit code which was the Week & the year ie: 247 (24th week of 1977, 1987 or 1997) after 2000 tire manufactures moved to a 4 digit code 1024: Week and year produced
Where the good old “horn blows how about the driver!” Saying when you try the horn🤣🤣 I was waiting for tom to connect his Bluetooth again when he was leaving so we could hear it say “bruetoofh succcesfry paired”
I just watched on the weekend and learned about the Moraine and Bendix master cylinder difference and then tonight discovered I ordered the wrong one for my 72 delta 88 custom cruiser. Same issue with the short recess or long recess and differing bore sizes on the end. unfortunately it is over 30 days since I bought mine so cannot return. The video was helpful in figuring this out. thanks
I remember my dad bought a Catalina for the 4 new tires it had on it. Come to find out they was bias ply. It had a posi trac rear-end and we roasted the tires till they blew
I really enjoyed this episode, which is staggering considering it’s half the mechanical content of your normal videos. The four of you make a smashing team! Would love to see more videos that combine the recovery, mechanical, and body work. Excellent job! P.S. congratulations on the wedding!!
Really enjoyed this video and the car. Doesn't look ugly to me it has style and unlike most of the crap that comes out now l really enjoyed. Tom and his sense of humor now the old beauty just needs some nice quiet dual exhaust and a few other odds and ends and she'll be gorgeous again
Sweet Bronco Kevin! Great choice on the 2 door; I never see those on the road but really love them! I build models in my spare time, or at least try to have spare time to build them!!! And I have AMT's kit of that 2 door Bronco, and I think I'll paint it that green in your (and Mook's) honor!
They keep callin it ugly but for $53 that's a helluva paint job on that roof, amazing that he got away with using 2...sorry 3 types of paint on the red and making it look good, it wouldn't hurt my feelins to own this
I love the friendship and the everoment these guys create. I find myself checking every Friday and Saturday to see if JYD has posted. I've been subscribed since the very beginning. Hoping to meet you guys one day!
My second car was a 1975 Bonnieville. 400 with a 2 barrel. It wouldn't get out of it's own way, lol. But, rock solid dependable. You could put it on the highway and run 70 MPH for days.
I had an old Catalina and I'll tell you what you guys did an incredible job on that the vinyl top is just about the most incredible bit of innovative work that turned out I mean really good you never know what's really going to turn out and and make your job look like a million bucks thanks for everything waiting to watch more knocker socks off again thanks

Tom being a painter explains so much about their wacky humor, nothing like decades of thinners inhalation
Enjoyed watching the guy work
I'd say he probably painted the car better than factory too.
Tom is the kind of customer we would love to see coming in at the NAPA where I used to work. Always some old story or joke that would have us all howling
you'd come home about 3 hrs later and the wife would ask where the hell were you!
My granddad used to own a NAPA auto parts and a small town and some of the stories he has or he crazy
I scored a 72 Catalina 2 door this summer! Parked for 23+ years...runs amazing...saved it from the crusher!! 😎
71-73 Pontiac Catalina that was going to be my guess what it was

Tell Angus we're all proud of his brake lines, he needs to hear it
Happy Veteran’s Day, Kevin! My Dad served, Hospital Corpsman, USN, Korean War era. He passed last December. Proud of both of you👍🇺🇸
Happy Veterans Day!!!
Top LOL Line:
Angus: '...I feel like an expectant father waiting for his son to be born...'
Kevin: '...I hope it's the right color...'
Never knew Kevin is just like me 🤣🤣
Ba-Dum, Tss ... I spat my beer whem he said that 😂
"I'm talking about the car, what're *you* talking about!?"
Shoutout to the moraine Ohio GM plant and DELCO who made all the parts, my grandparents met in that exact plant!
TOM!! His deadpan is freakin hilarious
Glad you let TOM take over and show his expertise in painting and bodywork. Angus did a great job also. Great video, thanks 👌 👍
That car will hold 8 buddies just in the interior. More in the trunk .. long live the American land yacht! And yes, that was a rare Mook sighting!
Yes must cal the JUNKYARD. MOOK REPORTING CENTER ON THIS SIGHTING

Fun video fellas, and the old pontiac looks great! Around here, content is content regardless where it came from.... lol...A+++++
Thanks doc!!

Back in 1982, I was 17. Bought one of these for $150. It was a 73. It was big as a boat but very useful for Friday night game day parties 😅
At 13:19 the turning off the ignition yet coasting at speed to put unburnt fuel into the muffler then turning ignition back resulting is a loud bang was called, at least around here, key banging. Lmao I used to do that in...well...less than savory neighborhoods...should've seen the people on their porches hit the floor.
Tom seems a fun guy. He needs to be in a few more episodes 👍👍
I did that with my moped a few times until it blew the muffler away about 15ft like a rear facing rocket
Keybang! I like it!
I did that one time with a old Econoline with no muffler, shot a huge fireball out that hit the tailgater behind me.

Thank you for your service to all of the veterans!

Happy veterans weekend everyone.
Same to you, brother
Angus whacked on paint fumes. Tom rockin' to Aerosmith in Chinese. I think that Cat is actually appealing in an old man kinda way. Well done boys.
4 minutes ago has gotta be a record for me.
And a 2 minute revival has got to be a record for you guys. Didn't even need a pliers!
Oh baby, when you ad Tom, Kevin and Mook you know it's gonna be good. Plus as you know who it's for you can just Angus everything lol.

That's a fine old car - my first car was a '73, it was indestructible.
Had 150k on the odo when I got & I drove it for a decade.
