- Hagar the Horrible
For Hagar, the lovable Viking, the period known as the Dark Ages was not all that dark. Laden with loot from his latest “business trip,” the happy-go-lucky Hagar sails for home only to find his loving family turned upside-down. As head of the house, Hagar has his hands full as he attempts to put his family back on track. - Кино
I never knew there was an animated version, first time I heard his voice. I've been reading him in the comic strips for years trying to imagine what he would sound like.
This is pretty close to what I imagined.
I always used the voice of Wolfman jack.
Absolutely nothing at all what I would imagine his voice would sound like. I was thinking more like Fred Flintstone
Loved the comics as a kid. I think "Quark, the little giant" was a spin-off which I owned a few of as well.
Me either
I did not know that there was an animation cartoon of HAGAR the HORRIBLE and to see it come to life thanks to those two legendary cartoon purducers WILLIAM HANNA and JOSEPH BARBARA.
Peter Cullen sounds like he's going for a Fred Flinstone type voice here.
I almost thought Henry Cordon was voicing him.
Interesting comparison.
Definitely a close, but no cigar guess.
Honestly, that was pretty sweet. I would've loved to watch this as a kid.
I know just what you mean by that.
Anybody else chuckling at Peter Cullen voicing Hagar? He did do a number of less serious roles back in the 80s and 90s. Like voicing Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.
I haven't seen Hagar the Horrible since sometime in the 90s in the local paper. I didn't know about an animated show until now. Thank you for the trip down memory lane, seeing this flooded me with many, many good memories.
You can access Hagar comics at comicskingdom.com/
I guess that makes two of us.
Thanks for the information.
kinda sad they never turned this into a prime time show or a Saturday morning show
Just as well.
This would've been a favorite of mine back when Saturday cartoons were a thing.
And for me that time would've been the early Eighties to the mid Nineties.
I know just what you mean fellow fan.
They would have ruined it, like so many others. It is so nice, just like that
exactly
Good ol Optimus prime voice Hagar the Horrible, Peter Cullen and I think he did a bang up job. I remember seeing this cartoon only once when I was a young un. Still holds up even to this day too bad it never lasted long.
Is that who that is?
None other!
Miss the sundays papers cartoons
Oh dear, I miss the heavy and wonderful Sunday papers too😢
Our family had the same paper route for fifteen years. Generational first job, and I still miss the early morning routine.
Hagar the Horrible is voiced by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and Megatron(Frank Welker) is the narrator.
I'm really surprised this show wasn't picked up for a sitcom. The pilot was really good.
It could work.
No lies told.
Hollywood missed a golden opportunity. Years ago I envisioned a TV sitcom based on Hagar the Horrible starring Alan Hale, Jr. as Hagar and Bob Denver as Lucky Eddie. I can just see Gilligan Island's skipper wearing that horned helmet. LOL!
Vikings never wore horned or winged helmets. Those would have been completely impractical. Horned and winged helmets were created by theatrical costume designers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Loni. Anderson as Honey.
Very creative imagination & you're right, that would've been brilliant
More like Anna Kournikova as Honey with Gordon Jump as Hagar.
It's so sad this show hasn't turned into a series. That pilot was amazing!
Whether a pilot or just a one time special is anyone’s guess.
Likewise.
This was one of my favorite comics as a kid in the 70's . Never thought it would be a cartoon

Same here.
Haven't seen this animated special in a long time. A delightful adaptation of Dik Browne's popular comic strip about Hagar and his viking family. Thanks RUclips for this upload.
You're welcome!
Dude really?
@@ComicsKingdomOfficialdo you got the one with a baby that doesn't move his mouth like Garfield in a cartoon? I forgot his name though, he is the original comic strip too.
When was this made?
@@ComicsKingdomOfficial Now go fetch us the original Fat Albert special that was made for adults.
(I know, it's impossible...)
As a kid who always looked forward to the Sunday funnies, when this premiered I thought, "It's about time!"
Well, now I know why I didn't like homework when I was going to school. My Viking heritage.
It figures.
Aww I really liked this! Used to love reading Hagar the Horrible in the newspapers.
I used to read those comics in the newspaper, I miss hagar he is funny 😁
You can get Hagar comics at comicskingdom.com/
Would give anything to have a good crossover story in which Hagar goes through a time warp and meets up with Snuffy Smith?
One of the funniest ones i saw in the paper years ago was, Hagar and his crew were challenging a castle owner, who replied "You can have all that we have!", "What have you got?" Shouted Hagar, "Measles", came the reply!
That takes me back.
Lol 😆
Right on.
Hagar is from Cleveland, Ohio. Yay! Hometown boy makes good....?
Hanna Barbara productions were classics in their own right!
I'm glad I made it here.
Welcome!
As a Dane, living in Sweden, I can only agree to Hagars last words; yes we are still here 😜
You are right. I have seen the price for beer there. Absolute daylight robbery,.
"Illiterate" with Runes. 🤔 Propaganda everywhere. Skål!
Ethnic Scandinavians have lowest birthrate on the planet of any demographic. (Both parents of ethnic Scandanavian heritage
You all won't be around much longer at this rate
Tell it to Texas propane salesman Hank Hill.
I used to have a crush on his daughter when I was little 😄
Honey is the Viking answer to Anna Kournikova.
Good afternoon ! Congratulations ! What a missing time ! When " cartoons and comics " were together ! ⭐⭐⭐
I always wondered what Hagar sounded like! Apparently it's Optimus Prime 😮
Vikings/Autobots, roll out!
sounds more like iron hide with a little prime mixed in
Amazing.
Man I love reading the comics of this guy.
I read HTH every day. I never knew they made a HTH animated cartoon. This was a fun cartoon. Thank you for sharing this.
You are most welcome!
OMG thank you dudes!!!
Our pleasure!
Hagar sounds like a cross between Optimus Prime & Fred Flintstone.
Unusual.
This is honestly quite an entertaining little animated jewel. Hats off to the creators. 👍🏾🗿
As a child i used to love hagar in the papers daily , reading it !
Feel free to visit comicskingdom.com/ for our comic strips.
So did I.
I remember reading this cartoon( along with others) when I would buy the Sunday paper!!!
The funnies were the first I used to read!!!!
Likewise.
Wow - I had no idea there was a cartoon adaptation! :)
Comic strips ARE cartoons. Single-picture cartoons are also ... er ... cartoons. What you mean to say is: "I had no idea there was an animated cartoon adaptation!"
Yes, for many year's as a child, I red it from the comic strip !
I've been keeping tabs on this channel every now and then. This is by far the best upload they've had. Cullen's performance just makes this whole thing. I'm hoping Browne liked this one as much as I did.
Who is Cullen?
@@mikejohnson3338 Peter Cullen - voice actor of the 1980s and beyond. :-)
@@mikejohnson3338voiced Optimus prime
Never knew they made a pilot for this series!
I saw Hagar in the early 2000's back when my dad still bought newspapers.
Good times...
How true that is.
I use to watch this in Quebec in French when I was a youngster!!
Fun times!!
Nice. I'm familiar with the newspaper strip but didn't know it was animated.
The more I listen to this the more voices I recognise.
Such as Lydia Cornell as Honey? Just let me tell you, if it was in live action, tennis legend Anna Kournikova would be in the role of Honey; no two ways about it. Afterall, Kournikova does have golden blonde tresses that would have made her a prime candidate for the role of Honey.
I've never seen this animated short film from 1989 based on the comic strip. Hagar is voiced by Peter Cullen.
I've read Hagar since the 80s. I never knew of a cartoon. This was a fun video. Thank you
Vikingbots transform and set sail!
I had no idea this existed. For a Hanna-Barbara production, the animation was true to Die Browne's characters. Too bad it never became a regular show.
How true that is.
Nice one, Comics Kingdom. We need more material like this on tv today. When Saturday morning cartoons disappeared; humanity hit the steepest part of our downward spiral and we haven't recovered since.
That's a bit hyperbolic. Most animated shows were either toy commercials or rehashes of Scooby Doo. I was more into comic books.
We could also possibly use a feature film on theatre screens about Hagar, and it would rake in millions at the box-office.
I always avoid people from the wrong side of the fjord.
But Your kids are weirdos...
That's sound thinking..
Until the day that Honey met Loot.
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u Lean meat...
Only if Hagar was helping with the 1928 and 1932 campaigns for Herbert Hoover.
I remember comic strips borrowed from my father when I was a child. I heard his voice sound like Optimus Prime since I grew up watching cartoons in the late 80s and early-90s
Another spectacular special that I never knew existed 😮
Likewise.
Childhood memories... I used to collect the strips from the newspaper... in fact I think I still have the booklet I made somewhere!
Please visit comicskingdom.com/ for our comic strips.
Truly sounds like a memoir.
The RUclips algorithm popped this up as a recommendation. I never knew a cartoon had been made of this classic comic. Whoa!
Nostalgia overload.
Forsure!
Wait until the feature film hits theatre screens.
Brings back memories, read the comic strip for years 👍
Now that’s the spirit.
That would've made a great TV sitcom!
Peter Cullen! Roll out
If lucky Eddie could be a viking, I can't imagine their standards were very high.
More or less.
1:47 *Hilarious first gag!*
I can't believe that's peter Optimus prime Cullen holy crap.
I remember seeing the strip of this in newspapers, that and garfield.
I read Hagar every day for years. Always good.
Right on.
So glad to get this THANKS 😊🥰
Enjoy! 😊
How am I just now watching this for the first time?
Sane here :)
@@martinkalmus3761 Hagar is my favorite comic strip

I haven't seen this for a long time, thanks for the upload.
No problem!
Olafo el amargado una de las tiras cómicas d3 mi niñez , nostalgia de esos tiempos buenos cuando la tecnología no 3xistia la cual ha causado mucho daño .
This looks great! I loved reading Hagar strips in the newspaper growing up!
My kids felt the same way, especially my oldest son.
Great 😉😎😘
Right on.
Great old stuff. I loved the Newspaper Comic strip. The favorite my family loved was when they tried to invade the Netherlands and were forced back into the water by the Dutch Women for being too filthy to enter the Country. My Dutch Imagrant Mother had a plack by the door that said don't bring mud further tha n the door mat.😁
In fact, Vikings were cleaner than most other Europeans.
I remember that one clearly 😊
Don’t know how.
Possibility.
Donny Most (Ralph Malph on "Happy Days") as Lute.
Donny Osmond would have been better as Lute.
I remember watching this on television once, (and only once); I had just moved to New York City.
I had to scan towards the very end just before the credits---the only part I distinctly remember is Hagar coming out of the History Book, and saying, "Don't you believe it.", and that Peter Cullen was the voice-over.
Wow---how time has flown after 34 years.
Thanks for the post.
I LOVE THIS CARTOON
Ditto.
Thank you for this!👊
i remember borrowing vhs that had this episode of the show from the library back when when i could barely read.
(edit: after reading comments below i learned that this was the pilot)
The Vikings were clean, took baths once a week (which was above average for the time period), rag washed the other days and had toothbrushes, combs, razors and even ear cleaners
The Romans definitely were cleaner than the Vikings.
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u So what? I was saying the Vikings were not as dirty as they said in this cartoon or as stereotyped o the media
At least the ancient Roman men were mostly clean shaven, especially the soldiers.
I love everything about this I am excited for more❤
If a sequel is ever made, perhaps Anna Kournikova would be a better voice for Honey?????
Este personaje lo conocí de niño en los 80s en las tiras cómicas de un periódico local en Guadalajara Jalisco y su nombre en español era Olaf !! Y su esposa Helga.
I love the ones where he is Talking about food😂he asked Helga for breakfast at 3am.... Because he doesnt like to drink on an emty stomach❤
“Good grief”, as Charlie Brown would say.
I didn’t know there was a Hagar cartoon. I read the comics in the newspaper all the time.
Very interesting.
Now do you think that a movie version of Hagar would be good for theatre screens?
Hagar is still amazing, everyday, in the paper. You could easily do a hilarious live action.
Live action adaptations are lame.
Illumination and Universal have in mind an animated film based on this comic that would also have Chris Hemsworth as the voice of Hagar and Tom Holland as the voice of Eddie.
Depends mainly on casting.
Just the same, couldn’t Kournikova possibly portray Honey in a live action adaptation?
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u It would be good if in the role of Hony it was Emma Stone and that Lute was Ryan Gosling and it would be so that after Hagar and her companions confuse Lute's Ship with a Ship with riches they still plan to throw it to the Sharks but there Lute when he meets Hony falls in love with him too
One of my favourite weekend comic strips. So many great strips gone. Pogo, L’il Abner, Calvin and Hobbes, B.C., Beetle Bailey….
Thanks! You can still get these comics at comicskingdom.com/
I know.
I also love the cartoon, but never knew that there was a cartoon
Which makes this just more rare.
What is this Wizardry????I have never seen this cartoon before and I'm 52 years old when did this come out😮😮
I never knew he had a cartoon . thanks for posting it 👍😊
Of course he do, I saw this cartoon special back in the 80s.
No problem!
How about a feature film on theatre screens?
❤ Not weird, just different. Perfect.
Fred Flintstone is Hagar the horrible in reincarnation. Excellent.
Thank you for upload
You're welcome!
Always had a crush on Honi as a kid.
You too, eh?
I did!

Im love that Viking
Hagar Voiced By The Legendary Peter Cullen
No doubt about that.
I love it 😊❤
Amen.
God this cartoon brings back so much memories 🙂🙂
Does his horns "pop-off " when he tells a lie to Helga ?😊
Don’t I know it.
Right on.
"And taking home souvenirs they didn't pay for."
Plundering was part of the viking code.
The animation and drawing style reminds me of The Smurfs.
Try more like Funky Phantom!
Yes, the Vikings were a violent people when they travelled abroad.
During the medieval period however, they were the most literate and educated Europeans outside of the Iberian peninsula.
Also, try Vikings had the closest thing to democracy since the ancient Greeks till the modern time.
Hagar may have been a brute but Hamlet was actually typical.
Loved this in the first few seconds when I saw the Concorde 😊
Looked more like a 747 to me.
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u 😂😂😂 um…..no
Trust me, I think that I know a 747 when I see one, detail wise that is?!
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u sorry, nope. Google 747 then google Concorde. Concorde looks like nothing else! Ogival double delta wing, 2 engines each side doubled in long nacelles. Also has no horizontal stabilizer. Trust me, it’s absolutely NOT a 747!! It just happens to be my favorite airplane of all time and I have a couple friends that used to fly it. I am also a commercial pilot and own 5 of my own airplanes. Concorde was the first fly by wire airliner, first to have carbon disk brakes, full auto throttle, and CAT3B auto land certified airliner. It was also unique that it had reheat (afterburners) and thrust reversers. The inboard thrust reversers also could be used in flight as speed brakes.
This was really really good. Very well written and the voice actors are wonderful. Make it a series and I'll become a regular. :)
It would be better if it was a movie on theatre screens.
Awesome 👍
This needs to be at lest an animated movie
One for the theatre screens assumably?
Some things should just stay as comics in the Sunday newpapers.
Unless they’re willing to debut on the theatre screens.
This is such a great treat!
How true that is.
