This Barre Ballet Workout is designed to sculpt your ballerina body. It is a low impact 10 minute workout that you can do at home. The only equipment you will need is a barre or chair to act as a barre, set of light weights (1.5-2kg) and a yoga mat or carpeted area to lay on the floor.
In this class, we do a great set at the barre, then we hit the floor for upper body and core exercises.

This 10 minute barre class is a barre class workout for legs workout and cardio workout to give you toned legs and a ballerina body. Get your cardio fitness from this ballet workout and do this barre workout for home via an online barre workout. I used to dread pulses but I really enjoy doing them now because it’s a great way to track your progress - looking back on those days when you’d struggle to get to the end without losing form or having your muscles shaking your legs like Elvis!
I love that you talk through it instead of going over the combos before each set. This means once I learn it, I can just use earbuds without videa. If the rest of your videos are like this, I'm in.

Love the workoutk but find the music too loud and not suited to Ballet. We did barre to Chopin!
Thanks Sandra. I don't do barre classes to classical music...so each to their own...I have that for ballet classes. Plus, we have to use royalty free music on RUclips, so I couldn't use Chopin even if I wanted to. BUT, yes, the audio in these early classes of mine are louder as I was still learning how to do the audio and tech side (I am self taught and do it all myself)...so please check out some of my more recent classes, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I am a beginner at bar and even though this is just 12 minutes long it's not beginner level. Coming from someone who is overweight and not an ex-pro dancer, I can tell you coming from my standpoint this is not beginner and I just felt very frustrated trying to do these moves.

I just found your videos and let me tell you!!!! First I thought, 10 mins!? I need more time but I went ahead and tried this one as I am a beginner and I almost died. My leg cramped right after the barre workout. Will definitely be coming back for your other videos!

I really tried but the music is too loud and makes, not only difficult to hear your voice, but noisy.
Yes, I know! This was one of my earlier videos where I was still learning all the sound/video etc - I'm completely self taught with the tech side of things...so it was a learning process.. I'd love you to try one of my more recent videos...they are WAYYYYYYYY better with sound and audio! Andrea :)

I also slowed it to 3/4 because it was too fast to do properly for a beginner.

Eeek! That music is horrible. Neither Ballet, Yoga & Pilates are calling exercises so why isn't Barre?
Yes, I know the music is not great. This was one of the first online videos I made, and it was really hard to find royalty free music a few years ago that you could use on RUclips. So yes, I hear you. Try some of my more recent workout videos...I am all self taught with the tech and music side of things, and have learnt alot as I've gone along. I'm not sure I understand your question about calling exercises...so if you'd like me to answer, can you please explain a little further? Thank you, Andrea

Yes, I agree with you. This was one of the first videos I ever made, and there was very little choice for Royalty Free music suitable for Barre AND RUclips 3 years ago. There are some great music options available now, AND I've now learnt how to create great audio, so feel free to try some of my more recent videos...I'm sure you will love them. This was a wonderful introduction into what barre is, and even can be. I’ve always wanted to be a ballerina, and this exercise gets me to kill two birds with one stone. :) I’ve never had much success doing regular workouts. They always just felt too hard on my body. And I honestly hate sweating lol.
I also find it to be a sort of meditation. Although this has essentially been my only experience, but I already can tell that to do barre properly, you have to be willing to pay attention to your body. If you’re not paying attention, then you could hurt yourself... it’s also fun to pretend to be a ballerina lol.
Either way, Andrea did a great job showing some basic but effective movements. Don’t forget it’s still a workout! xoxoxox

This was one of the first classes I filmed and uploaded to RUclips about 2 years ago, so I had no idea about all the tech and audio/video quality side of things then. Will this help in terms of gaining muscle weight? I’m a dancer and I’m 19 and slightly underweight! I want to grow muscle so I can gain a few pounds of muscle weight!
Hi Addie, if you do barre classes regularly, you will certainly tone up your muscles! Every body's body is different though, so no workout can specifically guarantee to put on muscle weight. This is a great place to start improving muscle tone though, Andrea x

I wish barre workouts didnt utilize so much forced arch. So hard on knees :(
Hi Heather, you can absolutely feel free to lower your heels to have less of a releve when you are doing barre classes. We all need to work at our own range of motions and abilities to avoid any issues on the knees. I've been dancing since I was 3, so thats 42 years...and my feet are very comfortable on a high releve - no issues on my knees - so that is why I demonstrate like that...for you, and others, if you need to keep the heels lower, that is perfect for you. Give that a go, and let me know how your knees respond with a lower releve, Andrea

Thanks for your comment Sam. If you listen carefully, you'll hear cues for alignment all the way through the class. I don't break down the basic postures themselves, ie all the details of what a plie or tendu should be, as I can't do that AND keep the the pace of the class moving. If you'd like to do make a barre basics lesson with all the basic positions and postures, let me know, as I'd be happy to do that for you! Andrea :)

How is this beginner???????
Because the music is much slower that I usually use, and the exercises are taught slowly before we go to tempo, and I offer options to modify...exactly as I teach my beginners in my studio. I do have some other barre videos that are even slower, so search through some more of my beginner classes! Andrea x

I love this. I watched through to end to get a feel for technique and timing. After that, went through each slowly and then to tempo. Very effective workout.

How long has barre been around?
Hi Meow...straight from Wikipedia...here is a little about Lotte Berk who developed the original barre style workouts in 1959: Lieselotte "Lotte" Berk (13 January 1913 - 4 November 2003) was a German-born dancer and teacher, who lived in England from 1938. In 1959, she developed her own method of exercise, drawing on ballet moves and positions, that concentrated on the idea of building "core stability". In the 21st century, derivatives of her method are widely offered by gyms and studios around the world as barre classes.

Hi Allie, thanks for working out with me. All the releves, which is where you are on your toes, is really strengthening for the ankles, as long as you keep the weight even between big and little toes, and don't 'sickle' out. Also, do you have a theraband? Doing point/flex work of the foot on a theraband is really great to strengthen. As is toe swapping - try to lift the big toe off the ground, then switch and try to lift the 4 other toes off while the big toe stays flat and switch20x, Andrea x

I dont understand these moves from the weird side angle of the camera. Much easier to understand when filming from behind or multiple angles.
