POV in 9 sec NA Viper on back roads, a brutal, visceral experience

  • My personal stress relief, a sunset blast through Sam Houston national forest and surrounding areas.
    The video does no justice to how visceral the in-cabin experience is. 750ft lbs of torque, instant throttle response, gummy R compound tires, and a lovely mechanical gearbox to exercise. Car has has unnatural levels of mechanical grip and sit-down shut-up levels of acceleration. Its absolute theatre to drive.

      Reminds me of the old Lamborghini Diablo in a way. It’s not crazy below it’s powerband but when it’s in power it’s insane. You could idle around and not ever break any sound ordinances.

      The funny thing is that the boosted ones get better traction because of the ecu tuning. I love this 9L build, and it is great to see a channel that shows it's capabilities so remarkably

      watch 6:40-7:40 It's way more than just boost by gear in those bad boys. They dead hook on factory wheels and R888s in 2nd gear lol. Lots of ecu traction/suspension tuning on those setups. Truly insane for a rwd car making 2k hp!!!

    I love that you drive this viper as my husband says, "You either drive your viper to its limits at least some of the time or sell it to someone who will." He had a 1998 Mustang Cobra, nothing fancy, and would drive that thing so hard I would say, "Aren't you afraid you are going to ruin the engine or transmission?" He laughed and said that engines should be safe to the redline and transmissions should be able to take the shifting abuse, and if the engine fails Ford will be bearing from me. I see that this thinking is shared by others. . .

    Is it possible to daily a 5th gen?

    • @yummyhershey5902
      @yummyhershey5902 3 года назад +1

      You can daily anything if you really want to. A Viper isn't recommended because they have stiff suspension, small trunks, guzzle gas, and aren't known to have the most comfortable seats, but it's doable.

    • @chrisej5987
      @chrisej5987 3 года назад +1

      I find my gen 3 perfectly pleasant to drive in. I find the ride firm yet still compliant. Traffic doesn't even bother me, A/C works fine to manage the heat of Minnesota summer (high 90's and humid). Clutch is a little heavy but not to the point of aching. Trunk is pretty deep and wide so surprisingly usable. As long as you're ok with and can afford horrendous fuel consumption (12-ish mpg average with any significant stop and go) it's a perfectly pleasant car to tool around in. Road noise at freeway speeds is on the high side (just can't mumble and expect to be heard) but I hear that the gen 5 is much better on that front. Just goes to show you how subjective your question is (pretty sure most people would completely disagree with me).

    • @peterkater4292
      @peterkater4292 3 года назад

      Yes you can. It just is stiff, noisy and might (I wrote "might") not be cooling so well when really stuck in traffic.
      But at the end of the day, hell, it's a Gen5 Viper, so not a big surprise if you daily it, right?

      Glad to hear you're in 1 piece. Toyos are a good aggressive street tire. Shitty in the rain like most R compounds w aggressive tread patterns. I wouldn't run them on a car I drove in wet conditions or in a car that isn't loud enough to cover the tire noise.
