The modified exhaust is great too. A fitting amount of volume for this car, but not a deafening raspy mess that would make it harder to enjoy

I think I've never liked so much a car sound than this one. The linearity of the acceleration, the round sound loud just the perfect way. This is pure art.
Still one of my favorite gauge cluster designs after all these years - speedo alllll the way over to the right because it matters the least haha

I remember being in high school seeing one of these at the Villa Ford dealership in the late 00's and being very intimated. As an adult I really appreciate how much power it puts to the road

I love the sound of the downshifts even more than the sound of winding it out.
Its my dream car, the one car that epitomizes the definition and love of automobiles. I've owned so many fun cars and motorcycles, and 2 Shelby GT500s, but they really aren't in the same class or realm as the Ford GT. The way the Ford team and Shelby brought this car about, the racing history, MAKING history. Its absolutely unmistakable.
I know someone who owned one of these and once he just blipped the throttle a little too hard in a low-ish speed turn and spun it out. He was NOT inexperienced with high-performance cars. This thing is a beast.

Funny how even though the GT has a different exhaust setup, it sounds VERY similar to my GT500 with 550hp. :D I hear more whine though on mine. H-pipe with Borla mufflers
I was definitely surprised that the whine was only mildly apparent at high revs. I expected it to be front and center but it settles into the background nicely.
@@TedwardDrives Also I bought mine already modified, so the smaller pulley and JLT intake probably make the whine more pronounced. I never rode in a stock one to compare unfortunately. Great video and thank you for posting it! The Ford GT/40 has always been my favorite car....so jealous. :)
American V-8s just have a certain roar to them!
To be honest they sound nothing alike. The gen 2 gt500 might share the same engine.... put them next to each other do take offs guarantee you will not be saying they sound alike
I've ridden in one in podunk Moulton, Alabama back in 2007... The owner of the local Ford dealership took me out after referring a sale to them or offering me $100 - I took the ride in the GT! We hit 140mph - thats all he'd do on the roads there :)
The engine behind you that you can see turning that supercharger is what sticks out most. This is 10000x better than that v6 abomination they came out with recently.

Had an RC Ford GT as a kid, such a nostalgic car
Sat in one early 2003 or 4 at the Ford dealership. White with blue stripes and a V10 motor. Beautiful car and one greatest sport car ever made.
A GT with a V10 eh? Either it was a GT or it was a Dodge Viper...
@@blue-tb2fdhe is right ! V10 was The original plan for the GT and they built a concept v10 car . but later ford changed it’s plan to a V8 to save time on development.

I saw one of these “snap” and spin in circles several times at Lime Rock, it’s a good thing no other cars were near it. Still, driving it must be a truly epic experience. Too bad Ford didn’t just keep making these in limited numbers, like a beautiful old Miura, it’s a shame to just see them die off until someday they’re just gone forever.
There are several kit car manufacturers that make a Ford GT, and some of them are really impressive.

Oh my god, what a stunning sports car that is! As you say: beautiful and iconic. The shape is timeless and so so pretty. The only car that can match the Miura in looks!

My uncle owns two. One that sits in the garage as an investment, and another for having fun on the weekends.
I find the placement of the of the tachometer and speedometer to be interesting. This car places the tachometer in front center of the dash where it can be very easily seen. And the speedometer is placed all the way to the right of the driver to where it takes some effort to read the speedometer. I guess that when driving this car the driver is not too concerned about how fast he is going.
That thing sounds sooo Intoxicating, especially on the upshifts, I'm In love!
10:09 Hitting almost 90MPH in 2nd is *insane.* No wonder why the car doesn't feel as fast as it should with gears that long!
Doesn't the gas monkey 300 mph one have the same gearing still but just 2500 more hp
Now you need to drive a Superformance GT40 to see what the real one is like!

I saw one on my exurban road last summer, and exotic cars are pretty rare on the street around here (which is not far from where you are driving these cars). Probably owned by one of my more affluent neighbors, I hope to see it again!

A pulley and a tune would go a long way! It’s fast for sure but it needs a little extra. That must have been amazing

You are so right. I can't believe that Ford had the nerve to call the new one a GT40. An insult to it's racing heritage and everything that car stood for.
I got to sit in one back in ‘06 thanks to the chill dudes at Brandon Ford. Was too young to think about looking at which # it was but it was one of the (many I’m assuming) Red with White stripes ones. Still one of my faves and I stubbornly use it in any game it shows up in 🤘🏻

I grew up in Gloucester, my wife in Lancaster. We live in Montana now, for the last 30+ years.
Seeing you on those backroads makes me want to drive my 300zx on all those winding and delicious curves.

I love the Ford GT. I remember when I was in middle school I would see 1 almost everyday after school during our bus route. It was a black one with white stripes. At that time the car was no more than a year or 2 old.
Regarding the suspension being "soft" for a race car, you have to remember that this was 2006. Even the most hard core production cars are soft by today's standards. Track day specials and cars that are track first, street second didn't really become a thing until about 10 years ago, and really only in the last 5 years or so were they done by most MFGs.
Anyone else get good vibes when watching tedwerd drive V8s ?
This remains the only supercar I've ridden in. My conclusion was that buying one of those was a lot cheaper than therapy and I totally "got it."

It’s cars like this that convince me that whilst you could swap a 1.2 Fiesta with an EV Fiesta & not feel like much of the experience is lost, no electric super car will be able to replace the raw magnetism or elicit the visceral emotions experienced from wringing the neck of a powerful combustion engine. There’s a real warmth of character evident even through a video.
It's the most beautiful supercar I've ever seen, the best body, you can admire it endlessly.
