The Tragic Life of Chamari Liyanage

- Murder cases on Desi Crime usually have a clear perpetrator and a clear victim. But sometimes crimes are not so cut-and-dry. Some cases can flip our perceptions of what is wrong and what is right; what is good and what is evil. The story of Chamari Liyanage dabbles in that gray-area. It's a story of a woman; abused, tormented, and emotionally tortured until one day … she snaps. But the strange part is, she doesn't quite remember how it happened.

the fact that domestic abuse isn’t treated as domestic abuse in desi families is SCARY. they call it “disciplining” but its so scary. its so scary that i might be speaking to people who go home everyday and experience abuse. and its so scary that they can’t ask for help because they’re too scared. the world seems a scary place to live in, sometimes
Yes, but nothing justifies killing the perpetrator.
@@sumit6190p Yeah but I think it was justified here. That man was a monster
@@sumit6190p oh everything justifies killing this perpetrator and it was justified. Cry about it! It happened.
@@sumit6190p oh please it's totally justified to kill a monstor like him .
@@sumit6190p Objectively it doesn't, but as a woman, I wholeheartedly see that this guy was rightfully killed. He had perverted likings and would have been maybe pedophile or a child abuser in the future. She helped the world fall short on that and also saved herself from further destruction of her life. He psychologically broke her down and manipulated her to a great extent. She is a true hero. I hope she has recovered from her trauma and is living her best life.
Reminded me of my manipulative boyfriend, I'm so glad I'm out of it. People often claim of me being stupid to stay with him even after he had emotionally and sexually abused me, i really want everyone to listen to the part where she says 'it doesn't matter how educated or independent you are, it is very difficult to come out and ask for help'.
I hope you are doing okay now❣️.
Been there, done that. Some people are just not humans but monsters!
I'm sorry to hear that bhen. Don't lose faith in this world or life, there is good people out there who care. God bless you
Care to explain why ? You can just abandon everything rather than being a puppet.
There are a lot of monsters
My first marriage was abusive. I got out. But there's a strong tendency of falling for anyone who is even slightly nice-so needs to be watched out for. My doctor looked at my injuries and told me, in 23 years of practice- he hadn't seen a man come with those injuries. Some injuries are specific to DV.
power to you. hope you are doing okay :)
More power to you! Love and respect ❤
As a Sri Lankan girl, who is brought up in a middle class income household, I can imagine, what kind of love and protection she received under her parental care. For such an educated girl to undergo such abuse is beyond belief. She proved her nature of being empathetic by being kind to K. May her beauty of inner soul thrive in peace.May this never happen to any other woman in the world.
Yeah she is empathetic by killing someone. 🤣🤣🤣 bloody feminist
It's rare to find such a story that ended on a good note. She did the world a great service.
Crazy to think that as a Sri Lankan I don’t even remember hearing about this case! Really well put together, thank you for sharing this heartbreaking but important story as domestic violence and intimate partner violence has been on the rise.
This wasss sooo good !! Such real life stories are needed to be there on social platforms for everyone to see, know and understand!! Great job guys 🤍
this case sent chills down my spine, the fact that she had to go through sm. the ending was so beautiful! loved how she is doing better now, and finds joy in the little things of life. yet again, you delivered an amazing story aryaan and aishwarya. so so proud! keep them coming🥰
I have heard thousands of crime podcast, but nothing stung me like this one. The end had me bawling at my workstation. I am truly happy for her.
The only sad thing about the entire situation was that the monster got away with quick death.
I just love ur show! Not only does it show interesting stories but the whole storytelling and vocabulary that goes into it
So good to see you guys accepting our requests! This one was also a hit!
Thank you for this BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL EPISODE. 💜 All my love and heart goes out to you two for bringing this up. ❤️
Congratulations to the Desi Crime team for your new endeavour. You'll surely create history and wind love of the audience.
So happy i found your channel . Much love from Cape Town South Africa...Thank you .
She saved worlds from monster.
So happy to see that you added contact numbers for domestic abuse and mental health helplines in the end of your video. Please do it for all of your videos if possible ❤ Have been watching the podcast since a few months now and I am so glad to see you both covering cases from south asia. Ill recommend you all to cover the following cases as well from Pakistan,
1. The case of mukhtaran mai
2. Qandeel baloch honor killing
3. The lahore motorway case
I just want to Give Chamari the biggest hug. She's such a sweet , beautiful and wise woman ❤
Glad she got the justice she deserved
Amazingly covered... Relieved to see how justice has been delivered at last... You guys are amazing 🤩
She could've chosen NOT to marry that beast. He had cheated on her multiple times before marriage or even before proposing to her. She could've literally escaped this trauma before it started if only she would weigh the good & the bad and choose to listen to her brain instead of her heart. GIRLS, NOTICE THE RED FLAGS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
It's easier said than done though... When you love someone... You are way too willing to forgive that person and the romises of a goof time ahead stopes the women from leaving the abusive and toxic relationships and marriages.
@@gopikamaniprasad7089 I didn't say it's easy. It tough absolutely heart wrenching but so is living with someone who cheats on you because you know you'll never be enough for them. Don't expect to change people because they change WHEN THEY WANT TO CHANGE.
@@lessgootogether yeah... I now understand we are on the same boat. Yes, she could have. But the point is she was emotionally brainwashed and manipulated to the extent that she was not in a position to see that she could have walked away and it became impossible in her mind to just walk away. Ig. But yes, as you said... Her experience and other women's stories should help us see the red flags and be more aware on how abuse works.
Please cover the case of Bandana kalita from Assam. She killed her husband and her mother in law , chopped their bodies and disposed their bodies in neighbouring state meghalaya.
Looking forward to it!
You guys are literally amazing!💕
A new episode on youtube....
Long awaited!! ✨
Glad I had notifications on!
I had goosebumps listening to the podcast. It is immensely tragic yet so inspiring to know how she fought back with all her integrity.. and I cannot be more vocal about how wonderfully you two narrate these stories. Keep up the good work..
you need to make videos more regularly ... so happy to see someone podcasting about desi killers! I mean I wish we didn't have desi killers but you know what I mean! Make more videos please~ ~!!
I have a doubt regarding one of your podcasts on Sheena Bora..WHO IS THE WOMEN WHO CALLED RAKESH MARIA and REVEALED THAT SHEENA WENT MISSING 3 YEARS BACK? Who is she?
@yo yeah
Aryan speaks so effortlessly! Kudos!
YALL ARE SO AMAZING MAN
Superb video as always
I was crying at the end of the video. Iam very happy that she is out and doing great
You guys are the best ♥️♥️ addicted to your podcast
This was such a sad and horrible incident and the fact that she had to suffer for years, everything is just so heartbreaking! I don't know how many years of therapy is gonna heal her. Thank you for covering this case, thanks for being our Desi Crime podcasters.
Subscribed 🤗 love watching your story telling keep growing and keep Rocking ✌️
Very well done episode! I now think Season 2 of the Hindi version of the series Criminal Justice was probably inspired by this case.
I think so tooooo!! I was looking for this comment :). Season 2 of criminal justice was as engaging was as this podcast! Really appreciate the time you take to research and put together every podcast guys :) @desicrime
Loving the Intro 😍
Ooooo🥳 new episode which is not covered in podcast
She annihilated a demon.
Both of you are really pretty people 🌹
Thankyou for bringing on this EPISODE . 🤗🌹
Inspirational video 🤗🤗 People should realise the status of relationships either abusive or traumatic and should try to seek help and support..
This is literally soo horrific
This is just soo sad that soo many women go through such incidents but are helpless
Reminds me of the UK story which was behind the Movie Provoked starring AshwariyaRai and Naveen Andrew @DesiCrime
I don't really watch RUclips videos but I love your podcast and I am interested in learning about different cultures so I really enjoy your podcast but you may sway me to watch a few more videos this was beautifully told 💜
i was crying by the end of this
Great coverage on this case thanks for tht but I have exam tomorrow and I m watching this
A heart breaking story worth covering! I’ll give you one more! The story of Premawathie Manamperi. We Sri Lankans know what happened but I believe the world should hear too. It will bring a small bit of justice for the poor girl. Bit of warning though the things you learn about the story will scar you and you will never forget this one.
As a Srilankan I didn’t know the depth of this story until I listen to this today! So thanks!
Stay blessed Dr Chamari. Very sad you had to go through all that terrible stuff
such an eye opening case
Such a beautiful ending I almost cried man.
as a sri lankan i appriciate you for covering about a sri lankan women, this is the 1st time i've come accross where a forigner covers a case of a sri lankan. thankyou. i higly suggest you to cover seya's case who is a 7 year old little girl kidnapped while sleeping with her mom, sexually assulted and k*lled tragically.
Can't wait 💀🌝

Im sooo happy this woman got out of her hell 🙏🏿🙏🏿

awwww you both ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Gut wrenching fr. Hope she's doing fine now.
I love y'all so much
I'm crying
So sad to hear her story 🥺 it makes my heart go out to her and i definitely feel he deserved it tbh...
Hope is humanity 📉📉
What a horrendously sick man, and how terribly she suffered. Thankfully it had a better ending. I hope she's happier.
Never have I ever cried watching a RUclips video.
had abusive mother and father abd i diowbed them ever since i was young things were okay they would be constant drama.I tried to run away since age twoi but evry time i tried they always klocked the door.Ith very, mean, rude, disrespectful and cruel.I sruggled so bad but it was in vain. They knew i wanted to run because they were evil.Victims always want to run away but there road blocks
So similar to book the silent patient
I was crying for this one, omg the suffering 😢
I cannot justify any murderer! If she was cheated on so many times she should have left. A person with low self esteem and ending up being murderer!
@yeh
He'd probably kill her if she left unlrless she killed him first.
[[i mean he was threatening to harm her family, sisters and friends. beating her up on the regular, intentionally jeopardizing her education and career, forcing her to be financially dependent on him despite her making her own money.]] forcing her to perform lewd acts for strangers on the internet, accessing categories of videos i do not wish to mention here, using her as pawn to rope in underaged girls whom he filmed and planned on committing s**ual crimes on.
the cheating was barely scratching the surface... there's a lot more to this monster that the hosts covered later on in the video
Does anyone remember aishwarya rais provoked movie. It has a similar story
Thank you for saving the world Chamari.
Just heard this story till 7:00 smthing and I remember Aishvariya Rai's movie "Provoked" also has similar story although that movie is also based on a courageous women karanjeet kaur prolly who killed her husband after being into constant abuse but yeah this one is also similar
Godd! Im a sriankan and this is my first time hearing this 😢
Reminded me about ashwariya rai's movie provoked
😢
Pleaseeee cover aarushi talwar case😭
The judge is such a goat for this judgement
Finally!!!!
take my watchtime, as much as you want hehe
Domestic abuse isn't the right word to use for what that monster did to chamari
Some people just deserve divorce 😕
And he needed therapy 😵💫🙏🏻
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Not to be insensitive but how tf did he get more than 1 girlfriend bruh
I suffered a lot 😭 i can understand chamari
in my case i actually stayed calm to know the extent of their power because u shud first know the bullys power whether u can fight them since they already showed their color through friedns colleagues and all. so then when i realsied it hard way but truth that my family is too powerful to mess up. i just had the option to just leave this and focus on future by asking truth and sorting it out by mouth but instead they played the game of blaming where they actulally created a fake story and fictional characters and absurd motives to distract the issue of them doing it and still feel its better to do this for me since i anyways stopped and asked for comprosmise. but they want to hype me so as to continue their drama
Is this also covered as a podcast?
RUclips exclusive :)
@@thedesistudios Oh nice.
He was exhibiting red flags even before they got married. Why did she still marry him?
This is not Desi. She is from sri Lanka.
Spouse gender should not be used to cover domestic abuse..
Heyy
I'm Maitreya Pwaar
I would like to suggest some interesting topics for your upcoming podcasts. Firstly, I recommend discussing the case of Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway. This controversial legal battle between a Norwegian-Indian national and the Norwegian Child Welfare Services lasted for several years.
Secondly, I would suggest delving into the Uphar Cinema tragedy. In 1997, a fire broke out in a Delhi cinema, killing 59 people. and The "Chaddi Banyan" case is a famous legal battle that took place in India in 1992.
Lastly, the mysterious deaths of Subhash Chandra Bose and Homi Bhabha are intriguing topics. Subhash Chandra Bose was a prominent Indian nationalist who disappeared in 1945, and there are still debates about the circumstances surrounding his death. Similarly, Homi Bhaba, a renowned Indian nuclear scientist, died in a plane crash in 1966, and there are theories about the cause of the crash. These mysteries have fascinated people for decades and could make for a captivating podcast episode.
I hope these suggestions are helpful and look forward to hearing your thoughts on them.
You both should be seated a little bit further apart
She snapped after all this if they went through it they would understand
If she had exploited and told k how to record videos, how can you say she’s not guilty. Shes a doctor, educated woman , maybe she’s the mastermind. Remember Karla Homolka, she became the crowns witness do got a lesser sentence and was told she was a battered woman, which she was but she went along with him and kidnapped the girls. She was equally guilty. Same with this character there. She would have known what to do and second she can always walk out.
There is no justification for murder get a divorce ASAP move out of the life of that monster and never return. that's it ur living in a free world. u ain't no slave murder is murder nevertheless
Ppl who kill their abusive partners are mostly attached to them emotionally and they lack courage to just leave them ! There is no law which stops u from living ur own life then why do u allow a person to abuse u amd hit u like that it just doesnt make any sense
Why are you wearing a cross on your ear ?
How do we know that Chamari is telling the truth ???? Her husband cannot comeout of death bed to give his version. When Chamara knows that he (may be) has affairs before marriage, why did this lady agree to marry him (Free Visa to Australia ?????) How convinient that Chamara just says what ever her Lawyer might have asked her to say to get her out of jail ???? So easy
She didn't need his visa as she was also a doctor and could have migrated on her own credentials.
She was stupid to marry him
