Agreed. I used OneNote daily and this video had many things I wasn’t aware of. I am curious about how to better organize data in my notes. I have photos from customer sites I mark up, relative documents I attach and after this video I am sure there’s a better way of doing things!
One shortcut I was missing is pressing Ctrl+1 multiple times. The first one creates the checkbox (as you explained), the second Crtl+1 ticks it off, the third removes the checkmark from the chrckbox again and the fourth Ctrl+1 removes the checkbox tag entirely. I use this is in team meetings to keep track of a shared preparation. Great video as always! I'm also a heavy OneNote user since the beginning and I learnt a lot. Thank you.
Would love to see more internal organization tips. I use this for everything and my documentation can start looking a little clunky with the amount of screenshots, links, docs & spreadsheets I keep. Loved all of these quick tips, definitely some gems in there!
I am a contract PM and use OneNote heavily. Is the only way to archive is using copy/manual steps. I use custom tags to identify actions, risks, etc. for meetings. I will send a calendar event to OneNote. Take meeting notes and tag certain lines. Unfortunately I have not found a way to have the tag search, search only that page and only for specific tags. I copy the page to a separate section, execute a search, create a summary page, cut out what I want, go back to the orginal, tell OneNote I want to email the page, before I send it our past in the "highlights" and finally hit send.
I am a BIG OneNote fan ... use it every day. But I still learned several shortcuts from this video (no surprise) that I think I can put into immediate practice (but I might have to tape a 'Cheat Sheet' to my desk for handy reference). FYI ... Tags are useful ... but for me 'Create Summary Page' is the MOST useful for tying similar points together from different notebooks ... and 'Dictate' can be very handy too! Thank you ... thank you ... thank you ... 😍😍😍 PS I've made this comment before. Many years ago I read a OneNote review that opened with "If you love three ring binders, you will love OneNote". They were right ... I did then and still do today.
At 1:08... regarding subpages... you can also click-hold-drag to the right one or more pages to make them subpages of the page above the selection. :-)
My favorite feature is importing meeting details from outlook or teams. I use it everyday and it saves so much time compared to writing it out. I haven’t used the tags much except for the check box. That’s something I’m looking forward to using more of.
Great video. My favourite feature of OneNote is the shortcut CTRL SHIFT S which allows me to select a screenshot when I'm not in OneNote. When I let go the screenshot is stored in OneNote witout any more action on my part.
Thanks for this video & really would like to see one on organizing content. 1. What are the pros/cons to using 1 notebook with various section groups vs. multiple notebooks (other than file size)
Thanks Leila for this ! Highly appreciated 🙏 Id like the video on how to organize onenote. Maybe a best practice on how to organize it date wise of one topic that gets continued over many days. I struggle with having to manually enter the dates the days I revisit that one topic/page over a period of time in-order to update that topic.
Mousing over text, page/subpage/section names, etc. gives additional tools to do many things outlined in this video. Additionally, clicking and dragging pages and subpages can easily reorder, promote/demote subpages, etc. Hovering over lines in a table or lines in a text container will let you select individual lines or sections that are in outline form to drag/reorder them within the container, or pull them out into a new container on the page. I'm big on keyboard shortcuts, and a bunch of the ones listed here are great, but hover, click/drag options can be even quicker, in my opinion.
Would love an easier way to paste unformatted text in OneNote (other than Alt + H > V > T). Thanks for the Ctrl + Shift + N shortcut. That helps in most instances but would be great if there was a Ctrl + Shift + V equivalent.
I am really interested in learning more about organizing in One Note. I find it frustrating and I wish it was more like Milanote sometimes so it is easier to move and connect pieces of information.
I love OneNote, but my biggest complaint is that my handwritten notes do not stick, or anchor to other parts of the page. Say I had printed out a PDF of a meeting agenda into OneNote and take handwritten notes, if for some reason I add text above the PDF, the PDF moves down, but my handwritten notes do not, meaning they are no longer in line when the PDF image. Any recommendations for this situation?
It would be lovely if there is a way to put two pictures side by side, so when the whole box is moved upwards, everything moves together! 🤩 Currently, I have to create a box for the extra image, so they are side by side, so when I move the content, I need to fix the position of those images, when you have a lot of them is not fun! 😅 I hope it's possible! Thank you Leila for the amazing work you do!
Using a table will let you accomplish this. For two pictures side-by-side, insert a 2x1 table, next copy and paste the 1st picture into the left cell, then paste the 2nd picture into the right cell. While the cursor is still inside either cell in the table use the Hide Borders command on the Tables toolbar to complete the effect. And if you want some space between the pictures, insert a 3x1 table and leave the middle cell empty.
Wonderful video Leila.. I must say, I have stopped using a physical notepad, ever since you introduced me to Onenote. Now really great to lea4n some shortcuts as well (some I knew already but many are new ones). I will be trying all these shortcuts tomorrow morning on my system. P.S. Love the wink .. 😉
Need advice on excel. I need a cell to return -20 if it goes lower than -20, and returns 20 if it goes higher than 20, but between these numbers is fine.
An issue or problem I have is our company use Microsoft 365 and we can only access the work Outlook via the Web based portal. The One Note (full version / desktop) allows for items in OneNote marked as Outlook Tasks do not sync to either To Do or Outlook To Do when using Microsoft 365 apps and OneNote on the "web" does not have the ability to mark Outlook Tasks. Integration is lost there... When using the full version of Outlook (only allowed in office) it seems to work.
I am very interested in how to better organize my notes. I also don’t know why when I hit Tab in a container it makes another column, when I just want it to move the line
The most important takeaway is in the very first second of the video. It's "LAY-luh". Not "LEE-luh". Mind blown. Apparently all these years, I've been doing Excel completely wrong!
Super great video, that really save my time, and stress free to manage the task, Ctrl+Shift+1, directly sync the tasks to To Do App all in one place. I am wondering it’s available sync the task writing on To Do App to OneNote? Thank you so much
It would be really interesting how you organize the content of your notes. Furthermore, not really related to this here - but what I would find interesting is the most efficient way to follow up on tasks?
Leila, I have a 5 subject wire notebook that I keep all my notes in. I'm wanting to convert to a digital note-taking software and an surface/ipad/whatever. My big handup is this: during most of my meetings for work, committees, or non-profit, I get paper handouts that I like to take notes on. Is there a way to capture those handouts during the meeting quickly in OneNote, and then use the pen to make notes? Thanks
Hi, Thank you for the shortcuts! Are excelent, specially to apply in power automate. Do you know a way to sort the collumn with several fields in a page, the default is the older up and the newest down, but I would like to sort the last first and other ways like A-Z, Z-A, date created, etc.
Thank you Leila, very Good! Yes please create a Video for Organisation of Content. Template and so on. Actually we have also Confluence in place and the Management think about to replace it with oneNote. I think this is not possible because the two Tools are to different. What do you think?
Hello Leila, first of all let me thank u so much for the great content and ur channel. I am office 365 subscriber and have the MACos version, can't find the vertical tabs or is it not available for MAC ?
Hi thank you for sharing this great video as always Any ways you have these keyboard shortcuts summarised in one place I mean in a word or an excel file if yes can we download it? Thank you
Good Morning! I cannot determine how to update and save the files I have stored in OneNote folders in the same place. The following two scenarios are particularly problematic. (1) When I open and update a Word document saved in a OneNote folder, I am asked to save it in a different location instead of saving it to the same file and folder. (2) When I open a PDF document saved in OneNote on my iPad and make annotations to it, I am also asked to store it in a different location instead of making updates to the same file and folder. Both of these scenarios work fine in OneDrive. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the great videos and your assistance!
I"m surprised you didn't cover the math function like typing 3+4= press the space bar, and then you get your answer. Personally I am trying how to figure out how to move a page to the top of a section instead of dragging it up there, which takes forever. I have many sections with many pages.
@Leila Ghararani It would be interisting if you could make a video on how onenote can be used with and within outlook in connection with for example labels and tasks and how all tie together to organize your workflow for email to tasks notes and so one
Hi Leila. One thing I've been searching for is a way to to format a notebook that I have created on the desktop version so that it shows up in the mobile app in an easily readable format. This is especially true when I am creating documentation for my organizations teams. With all the different pages and the use of navigation shortcut links I throw in, I see the view in the mobile app as pretty much unusable. The other thing I'd like to know if it's possible to do in the mobile app is for me, the notebook creator with edit rights, to see it in view only mode so I can see what the team members will see. They won't have edit rights to documentation and I won't be able to get another Office 365 account to view this in our enterprise. Thanks!
Hey, i have a query, i have two columns with different different amount in 100+ rows and i have to manually check for all the possible combination of one to one or one to many to match the amounts. I am doing it manually from past 1 year, is there any way to do it quickly in Excel without manual efforts? Thanks in advance.
Hello I'm so happy to find your videos. They are very helpful. Thank you very much for your efforts. I'm currently under education and i get powerpoint file from my lecturors and i copy and paste to Onenote, then i make notes on the page that i just copied. The problem is that many fearture for example the video, the moving picture they added in the powerpoint. they are just a black picture or a picture with not moveble in onenote. I don't know how i can linked them beter. I appreciate your feedback og help
Thanks for the tips. I wonder, though, how can I enter "Ctrl + #". '#' sign is on the same key as '3'. So When I press "Ctrl + 3", that is tag 3. If I press "Ctrl + Shift + 3" this will do Outlook task 3.

I am very interested in a separate video about organising things in OneNote. 🤓👍
This video had some incredibly useful tips, thank you!
me too. Totally. I switched to it from the joke Evernote became and I would never look back.
+2 interested in organising information in OneNote

I've made this comment before. Many years ago I read a OneNote review that opened with "If you love three ring binders, you will love OneNote". They were right ... I did then and still do today.
Same here. Could not organize or find anything without it.
Yes, yes... 😍Looking forward to the separate video about organising in OneNote.
Would love a OneNote organization video! I’ve been piecing little bits of organization tips from tons of videos & Google searches.
At 1:08... regarding subpages... you can also click-hold-drag to the right one or more pages to make them subpages of the page above the selection. :-)

I completely agree. This is a game changer.

I am interested in a video about organization inside OneNote, that would prove to be quite useful.
I'm really interested in a special video (or more than one video) about Using Tables in OneNote.

How can that feature be done on a tablet?
I am extremely interested in a separate video on how to organize stuff in OneNote. Thank you! I love your tips!!!
Noted, Sherrill :)
I would love a video about organizing one note. Thanks!
Great tool! Using it since Windows 7. Please share more tips on OneNote
I love this video. I use One Note ALL THE TIME at work. Thank you so much for the great tips! Keep it up!
Thank you! I would love a video about organizing one note :)
Great video... thank you. Also, I'd be interested in seeing your suggestions for how to organize information in OneNote.
One of my favorites is D enters the current date. T enters current time, but I never use that one. F enters the current date and time.
I would love to see more content on One note.
Great video as usual! Sure would like to see a tutorial on OneNote for Mac
Noted!
I am obsessed with your videos! So much great information! Thank you!
Really enjoyed the video. Loved the presentation. Excellent work!
I love these videos. Thanks!
I am very interested in a separate video about organising things in OneNote.
Would love an easier way to paste unformatted text in OneNote (other than Alt + H > V > T). Thanks for the Ctrl + Shift + N shortcut. That helps in most instances but would be great if there was a Ctrl + Shift + V equivalent.
Hey Leila, Thankyou for this video, It was really really helpful!
I am really interested in learning more about organizing in One Note. I find it frustrating and I wish it was more like Milanote sometimes so it is easier to move and connect pieces of information.
Very Informative, I want a separate video with more details. I am looking for more on organizing perspective. Also how I keep meeting notes day wise.
Thank you !!
I love this channel! I'm almost 90 and I remembered the command for shifting up because you winked ! I will share this with my grand kids :)
Wonderful!
Hi Leila
Definitely need a video on organising info on one note.

You can expand and collapse sections by double clicking the little grey arrow that follows your cursor around.
Excellent!
Thanks!

I am looking for a shortcut to change search from this section to this section group to this notebook to all notebooks.
Oh Leila... We love you ⚘
Anything OneNote related. I would be lost without OneNote to store emails and project notes.
👍
Hi thank you for sharing this great video as always
Any ways you have these keyboard shortcuts summarised in one place I mean in a word or an excel file if yes can we download it?
Thank you
they need to make a short cut to select the hand tool to move around the page and then when I want to go back to the normal select tool

Numbered list is "Ctrl + /" in my(?) version
Hi how can I sort the sections alphabetically ?
