I love the feature that creates a hyperlink to a brand new page - great for creating the ToC whilst setting up the pages. Just type the name of page you want between double square brackets [[name of page to be created]] . Even more powerful if you’ve already decided on or created a template to be automatically applied for the pages you are creating.
I did not know that you could link your OneNote tasks to Outlook. To me, that's helpful to keep my action items in one place. Thanks you, Lea! Also, I would love to hear your take on how OneNote could work in conjunction (or against) Microsoft Loop in the future. Thanks again!
Hi Abraham, thanks for your feedback and question. Unfortunately, so far, I have not used Loop extensively, so I cannot fully see its applicability. But my first impression is that it seems as if MS tried to create a competitor to Notion and the likes. The advantages (and where I could see Loop to complement OneNote) is that it's sharable with many and can be live edited (I myself always found it a bit tedious to share documents in OneNote). So you might want to think of Loop as the more collaborative tool vs. OneNote rather for personal notes. But who know how the tools will further develop.. Best, Lea
Great video, @@LeaDavid. Thank you. FYI, I too would be very interested in seeing you do a deep dive on the differences and applicability of One Note vs. Loop.
@@ccbarr58 .. Thanks, you know what the issue is. I was Evernote for around 15 years (maybe more if possible) but just been priced out by the new tariffs. Hi, Very use full for me. But the way you presented the video and edited it is marvelous. Can you please reveal the software you used to make this fine video.

Only an Idea: Maybe it could be senseful to work in youtube videos with chapters. e.g. : Chapter one: Basics and Layout. Chapter two: Creating links and hyperlinks : Chapter three inserting videos and pdf files with text finding... But this is talking on a highest level. Should you keep a downloads folder completely or should you keep files in it? I’m not sure what’s a good way to manage it. Thank you!!
Hi! In my opinion, it's best practice to move all of the files you need out of the downloads folder and save it in the target folder. Leave the ones you don't need permanently or just for the moment in the downloads folder. Then, once in a while, you should empty the downloads folder since its just taking space. Hope this helps, Lea
Is there a way to copy a page in OneNtote muiple times? I have template pages and I need to make hundreds of copies. I have been right clicking and selecting where I want it and hitting copy. But doing it one at a time. Is there a way to do this 10's or 100's of times easily?

Spoken as a digital kid and a college student, yeah, clear out your downloads folder. My two best tips for computer organization are 1) don't ever let your browser download automatically, always make it ask you where to save it or even if you want to save it, and 2) Folders are your best friend. I personally don't use my downloads folder: if i'm downloading something I want it for something and I put it in a relevant folder. I have a folder for finances, semester (with subfolders for classes), professional, projects/hobbies, personal documents, and subfolders in every single one further sorting things. My general rule is if I have more than 3 items related to a topic, it gets a folder. They're free and don't take up a lot of space so highly worth the ability to find anything. I do the same thing with my pictures and videos and music. On a related note, you can do the same thing with your gmail using labels. labels can be nested under each other, which is phenomenal for cleaning out an inbox. My personal inbox has a grand total of 4 emails in it right now, all of which I've dealt with and am waiting on replies for. My School account has i think 11, again all dealt with, just waiting till they aren't needed on a semi-daily basis, and My work account has 2, both waiting on replies.
Thanks for answering, Catherine! I really like what you said and can only second to save the files you need/have downloaded at their dedicated space and clean the rest on a regular basis to keep your computer clutter free. Best, Lea
How do I disable all horizontal scrolling in Onenote so that the text just wraps around on my phone? Other notes apps can have big wide pages on the PC but then when synced to the phone just text wrap automatically around the size of the phone. I know some people want the OPTION of a great big drawing space or something on their phone - but I just want stable reading as I scan down the page - and don’t want it to wobble side to side like it’s drunk!
Hi.. Problem with Ruler Lines is that when you start type text, it will not stay within the lines but would follow its own format which at times is really annoying and thats the reason I moved to Notion. Do you've a solution for that? thank you :)

Many of the options shown here are not available in the versions of OneNote that I know (Mac and PC): insert spreadsheet / template pages // link to pages from a list. What version is the one shown in the video?
Hello, I have been trying to use Subpages and in my system those choices are grayed out and the keystrokes do not work. Do you have any idea as to why? Thank you EDIT: because another poster said somethings don't work in Win10 I opened Notebook online and subpages are available and show up on W10. A pain but ...
Been using OneNote for nearly 15 years, on Windows, iPhone, Android, and Mac. TBH honest I'm a bit fed up with it. Microsoft is letting it die it seems, without any real updates in years. The iPhone version especially is compeltely outdated. You can't even insert a table, or even change the text style to header etc. Have sent them messages for years, every year, in hope they would do something. Was the biggest OneNote fan, you can't even imagine how many notes I have in there. Now I'm leaving, trying out all the alternatives.
Hi Jonas! I can feel your pain. Especially compared to other note taking tools that have recently gained popoularity, OneNote is a bit outdated. However, oftentimes in a corporate environment you don't really have a choice... Hope you find something that fits your needs better. Lea
Looks like MS is leaning into Microsoft Loop. Loop is Microsoft's answer to Notion. Microsoft would do well to create a migration tool to help their One Note users migrate to Loop without losing all their work.
Hi, I believe that's not possible. However, you could use the workaround and put your picture inside a 1x1 table and then change the borders of the table. Best, Lea
Hi George, I must admit I have just used Evernote for a short period of time quite a while ago so I cannot really comment. I have been using OneNote at work which I find good. Feel free to try both for a week or so and then decide for yourself. Best, Lea
@@LeaDavid I am using all these three for many years OneNote is best for work Evernote has many limitation without subscription, and it repeatedly ask for subscription Notion is best free to use powerful tool, it has all features at all platforms.
Great video! I love OneNote for two other things: 1. Making Mood Boards - combining photos of my own wardrobe items, garden design or home furnishings with screen clippings of paint colors, fixtures, finishes I’m considering has really helped me to curate my wardrobe and home refresh projects!!! I keep a few head-only shots of myself to try on different outfits as well as silhouette analysis. Just pairing the head with different outfits is often enough for me to happily reject ideas, and see what vibes the way I like! Pictures of my home from a distance allow my to “try on” different plants, foliage, flowers, pots, path materials, etc. (helps to know what is hardy in your area, first). Wish I’d done this from the start, it would have saved me some money! 2) Digital and Printable planner pages! PRINTABLE - The ability to use tables -and especially tables WITHIN tables - and the auto fill feature to create headings - can create stunning printable planner pages. Undated, dated (I make templates for months that start on different days of the week to simplify this), weekly dashboards and time blocking spreads for weeks and individual days, whatever I need. You can decorate pages as well, but my preference is to focus on a minimal look with the fonts I love. (Thank you, Planner Annie!) DIGITALLY, I love using your hyperlink tip. The design of the pages is more flexible/adjustable as needs/interests change. Some have all my favorite educational sites, or links to financial institutions and places we have customer accounts, or what is needed for work or business - all on one (or a few) main dashboard(s). I still love and use OneNote 2010 offline - I love how it prints out my “summary” view for all the areas and projects I keep up with that don’t require online input. I don’t see this feature on the new (free) OneNote. By only putting a tag onto the first 1-2 next actions of each “project” (and checking the Box for hiding previously accomplished tasks), I get wonderful printed lists of what is available for me to do next. The big trick here is to use naming conventions and grouping tasks within sections and/or notebooks for summarizing and printing by “title” (aka title of page) to achieve a nice bold font topic followed by your tagged tasks (which alphabetize themselves no matter what, 🤣.) Excellent for lists of agreements with or prayer requests for people (as page titles) sorted by name. I’ve also done this for low-level project management using self-ordering naming conventions. The available “pretty” templates are meh, but there are a few that feel inspiring. And - wait for it - They can be printed to CUSTOM SIZES to match your paper planner! It even had a dedicated Happy Planner Classic size! Half letter, A5 etc. With ring or discbound planners it is quick and easy to print, scribble updates on the go, and update/reprint when ready. I don’t use premium paper for these, and often use scratch paper I’ve cut down to size. It is SO nice to have a sense of order on paper during power outages (here in the land of hurricanes and poor grid management).
OneNote absolutely allows you to enter a table, it’s an extremely powerful tool. I suspect you are not using the full version of OneNote and instead are using the free version. That, I will agree is not great.
Hi Bjorn. I see what you are saying but many of us are left with OneNote since they have to use a MS tool. And it's not all bad.. there are some great features as well :)

Many of the options shown here are not available in the versions of OneNote that I know (Mac and PC): insert spreadsheet / template pages // link to pages from a list. What version is the one shown in the video?
True. OneNote for Mac has stripped down features only..
Hello, I have been trying to use Subpages and in my system those choices are grayed out and the keystrokes do not work. Do you have any idea as to why? Thank you
EDIT: because another poster said somethings don't work in Win10 I opened Notebook online and subpages are available and show up on W10. A pain but ...
Thanks for sharing, Stephanie!
How do you get the 'old style' full ribbon toolbar in latest OneNote (O365 desktop version) ? I strongly dislike the new smaller toolbar ribbon.
One the home tab click on the down arrow on the ribbon and under “ribbon layout” select “classic ribbon”. Hope that answers your question!
Please add chapters in your videos, Thanks and love from India
I will try my best! Thanks, Rishabh!
Good info, but can you please go slowly so we can do the same steps ? Also, subscribed.
Thanks Valentin! Noted your feedback but in the meantime, you can set the playback speed to 0.5 or so if you would like 👍
I don't have the option to copy text from picture ? How do I get that option I have a MacBook does that make a difference?
Hi Jan, indeed. I am sorry but some of the features are not available on Mac 😔
Can you please tell me how to create space between a tag and the text next to it?
Just typing space does not work?
@@LeaDavid Yes, but when there's a long list, I was hoping it would automatically indent the space when I press enter for the next line.
It's a shame that so many of these features are not available in the Mac version of OneNote.
Indeed, that's a pity :/
My number 2 reason I am moving off the Mac. I can’t handle the missing office features
Why does my onecalendar not have the tabs layout??? really dont like the vertical view
😕
I don't have this option "copy text from picture". I am on MacOS.
Hi Franck, sorry to say that there are qiute a few functions that don't work for Mac.
Is there a way to put a border around a picture?
Hi, I believe that's not possible. However, you could use the workaround and put your picture inside a 1x1 table and then change the borders of the table. Best, Lea
Which one is better Evernote or OneNote?
Hi George, I must admit I have just used Evernote for a short period of time quite a while ago so I cannot really comment. I have been using OneNote at work which I find good. Feel free to try both for a week or so and then decide for yourself. Best, Lea
@@LeaDavid I am using all these three for many years
OneNote is best for work
Evernote has many limitation without subscription, and it repeatedly ask for subscription
Notion is best free to use powerful tool, it has all features at all platforms.
Great video! I love OneNote for two other things:
(Thank you, Planner Annie!)
DIGITALLY, I love using your hyperlink tip.
How to add the sticky note?
Someone please just tell me how i remove date/clock everytime i make a new page, takes up too much space :)
Can I scan music score to PDF?
Not sure what you mean by that?
Lea's voice is so wonderful and she is so beautiful. I love her charisma & vibrancy. She's my kind a woman.
Thanks!
You're most welcome!@@LeaDavid 🌷🌺🌻
...and most importantly, she's well-versed in Microsoft Office...
Wow!!!🤯 @@KubilayErtuna
Weirdo
I will say that in the wrong hands these tools can facilitate enough busywork to keep an entire department engaged in the theatre of productivity.
In the wrong hands that may be the case
Hervorragend
Thanks so much!
Does anybody know the maximum file size of a notebook?
I believe I have read something around 2MB bit maybe someone from the community can help?
❤️👍❤️
👍
if only OneNote for Mac had the same features :(
Agree! A pity that this isn't the case..
Please don't disable embedding; we can't use it within our Canvas course :(.
What do you mean exactly?
I do not use oneNote because its mobile app is not powerful enough. Even it does not allow to insert a table
Hi Rishabh! Thanks for sharing your view. Indeed, OneNote also has some drawbacks.. Best, Lea
I use MS365 and am able to insert a table on ipad.
OneNote absolutely allows you to enter a table, it’s an extremely powerful tool. I suspect you are not using the full version of OneNote and instead are using the free version. That, I will agree is not great.
👍👍
Thanks, Jon!
@@LeaDavid You're welcome.
It's good content you are producing ☺
👍
OneNote Windows 10 you can’t do this stuff. Helpful if you state what VERSION you are using.
Thanks for the feedback!
Onenote can transcribe?!
Indeed it can!
Unfortunately onenote on phone isn't this advanced
I like blank pages. I think it is more irritating with this infinate space! I need one page, one paper. Not an infinate sea of place to write.
Thanks for sharing! Can completely understand you!
@@LeaDavid Any advice on how to tackle it? Can I frame in a page so it is smaller?

As most YTs you go too fast in showing what you are saying. Slow down!
Thanks for sharing. Will consider this in the future.
This is frustrating. Can't delete , can't move or correct. Pretty much useless
Not sure why you can't do all of that in OneNote?!
OneNote is great, but it's dead at the same time. MS lost interest in it 10 years ago, and hasn't improved enough... too bad...
Hi Bjorn. I see what you are saying but many of us are left with OneNote since they have to use a MS tool. And it's not all bad.. there are some great features as well :)
DID YOU WRITE * STAR IN HAND WRITING !!!!! THERE IS NO HOPE FOR YOU WOMAN!!!!
Ok
A little too fast
Feel free to reduce the playback speed a little :)
