First of all, I would like to thank you. I have been following you for three years now, starting when I was in class 9th. You have changed a lot for me, Ali. You have greatly improved my high school life, introducing me to study methods I couldn't even imagine. Thanks to you, I started reading books. I remember the first book I read a year ago was "Atomic Habits." One quote that really stuck with me was, "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems."
Thanks to you, I was able to transform my habits and mindset. Currently, I am preparing for a scholarship examination so that I can learn even more. I've always been good with computers, and by applying your study methods, my life has completely changed. I just wanted to thank you for everything. You've helped this kid become a responsible man. Oh, by the way, I'm still in high school. Thanks a lot, Ali. I hope to meet you one day or get a chance to talk to you on the phone. I will work hard to make this wish come true.
    Again, thanks a lot.
    Sachin

I think this video is not only a "reasonable" video at all. This video is an amazing video because Ali doesn't only "talk the talk," he really "walks the walk" to film a video that may not be "perfect" for a topic he really cares about. This is "beating perfectionism" in real time 😎
    Love it so much!!!

As a 20 yo who's been working on his entrepreneurial journey for almost 2 years now without any results, I found this video extremely helpful, especially the “Optimize for Enjoyment” part. Before, all my focus was on finding an income stream regardless if I enjoy the thing or not, and I found myself doing things I don’t like with zero results, this changed just this week while I was reading “The Personal MBA” and I’ve read this: “Spend your time doing work you like, with people you enjoy, in a way that keeps you financially sufficient”, and that’s why I loved the “Optimize for Enjoyment” part. Thanks Ali for your beautiful content!

You are doing so much more than just adding productivity tips. You're bringing joy back into the heart of the creative process. The authenticity here, the massive value add, the recommendations... so good, and really helps overcome the perfectionist inside me. Just bought feel good productivity and can't wait to read it. . Thanks for all the work you do. Regarding the struggle...
One thing I am currently working with is "being a generalist" and being spread too thin among many areas of expertise I find fascinating. There are people, smarter than me, who have combined these things, but I seem to struggle with making it happen for myself. I might have to accept the work I can do in these spaces might be different than those I look up to.

I have never thought of becoming an RUclipsr nor have I read Austin Kleon's -" Show Your Work" but this video has definitely sparked something in me that says to me, "You need to provide an act of service that has the potential to potentially help at least one person."

Thank you for this, as a teacher heading back next week to prepare for the new year I needed this.
I've said often that even if I didn’t NEED to I would still teach because I love teaching, the students, and who I work with. I teach the visually impaired.
I have a new post-it for this year (last year's was Work Smarter Not Harder) - What would it look like if it were fun?
I work with a lot of students who like me struggle with perfectionism because they know that what support they get now defines their quality of life so much as an adult, they know it more than their classmates in their regular classes but just like I struggle to provide it all (because you can't not all at once - braille, assistive tech, basic life skills, self-advocacy, keeping up in their general ed. classes, and more). It feels like running 15 marathons simultaneously 1 step at a time hoping there's no hurdles nor potholes knowing very well there will always be both. Per student.
I'm all for for doing all of that but I struggle with balancing that and also recovering from chronic burnout that was made worse by grad school and life situations.
How do I balance healing from burnout while still showing up as a single mom and as a teacher? That's the crux of it all for me.
I know in your video you talk about how you hope it helps one person, but through me I know you've helped me and most likely 1 if not more students and colleagues because I'll share it. Thank you

Great video Ali. Thank you so much for all your insights. As 44 y/o trying to switch carreers into something more meaningful and inspiring, I find myself struggling with 2 mental blocks:
    1. The voice telling me "who do you think you are talking about these subjects where there are many more experienced authorities already discussing them".
    2. Finding and conveying my "own voice". I still feel I come of very "vanilla" and, even if I know I dont want to create a character that is not me, I feel there is something missing to feel more comfortable and enjoy the process (specially creating content).

Thanks for this video, Ali! As a new RUclipsr (I uploaded my first video on March 30 this year), I find inspiration, motivation, and encouragement from watching your content. In my personal life, I dedicate time to at least one random person each week, sometimes connected through LinkedIn or my community contacts. I tell myself that if my suggestion, advice, or information can benefit one person, why not make a video that could help at least ten people with the same information? This thought keeps me going, and I really enjoy the video editing process. I agree with what you mentioned about the finished product often being better than the first draft because creation is always messy. I also resonate with your emphasis on having a clear purpose and serving others, not just making videos for the sake of it. So, stay blessed and thanks again!!☺

    Hi Ali,
I have been following you for sometime now and your videos have been very useful for me lately. It's not new for me to watch a video about Self Help, it's been couple of years since I have started watching them whenever I feel clueless or low. But the problem I struggle with the most is, even though I learn a lot from all these videos and at times solve my problem in real life implementing it, yet after couple of months I see myself struggling with the same problem again. But by this time I would have forgot how I solved it previously and battling the same things again.
For example, I came to a realisation that I need to set goals so as to stop feeling like Imposter and meet those goals and also not feel guilty by spending some time for fun. This did help and I was doing good for sometime and along the way this practise stops and time runs by. Suddenly one day I look back and realise why I am feeling like an Imposter and that I solved this previously. Can you please make a video on this?

But I kept reading your book and kept thinking about it. One day I suddenly came up with the idea of using Windows "voice access" to dictate the text instead of typing it out. It's pretty accurate, even more so than Google Docs "voice typing." Now I'm working on improving my pronunciation of words so that the voice access can better capture what I'm saying. I am really grateful for the new perspective you gave me.

I'm glad I found this video today, when I really needed it. Ive been agonizing yesterday evening and all throughout work today with these self imposed expectations that I believe my audience and bosses also share (even though they haven't explicitly told me they do, I just imagine they do), and its been really difficult to just sit down and draw the thing that I want to do. I keep thinking, "it's nice, but how is my interpretation of this character good when other artists are just so much better?"
It's been really helpful to hear what I'm experiencing and explained in the terms you used. It resonated with me at the right time, I think. I found myself nodding along the entire time, and I felt so seen. So thank you for taking fighting against that voice and hitting the record button. Honestly, one thing that I am struggling with is overthinking in the sense that when I want to do something, I think rather than do and oftentimes when I do the thing, I often stop doing the thing before I get my desired results because of some excuse. Maybe I get lazy, maybe I reason my way out of caring about doing the thing, or something. I often spiral into an existential crisis whether or not I’m doing something productive.

Perfectionism is easily caused by this society and workplace/corporate environment where most people fix their eyes on sales performance/KPI/project deadline etc because the burdens were put onto themselves upon top management’s expectation, that could be the main trigger for professionals to lay down their perfectionism when it comes to own content creation journey, because they treat their contents to audiences like big project/performance presented to the manager. Thank you for the great video, Ali!

I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and this one has been particularly amazing! After watching it on the 27th July, I decided to take action. I recorded my very first video in one take and posted it. It’s not perfect, and I actually wanted to edit it, but I know it will take me some time to learn video editing and I didn’t want to end up back in the same boat of overthinking. I’m thrilled to have already received 34 views, a comment, and 2 subscribers in 3 days. Thanks for the inspiration - I’m excited to keep going and improve along the way!

Wow, this is so useful. Thank you so much for addressing this topic. I definitely struggle with professional channels, but I find it easier to avoid overthinking when it's something fun. I know I shouldn't overthink, but it's hard not to. Sometimes, the reason I don't post much on my professional channel is that my ideas keep changing, and I often end up disliking my previous ideas. It's definitely easier with the fun stuff.

I was just got up after having a nap when I just saw the thumbnail of the video and literally it gave me goosebumps to clear all my temptations of perfectionism and publish my video in the next week. I must say that your videos and myself are in a living touch with each other.
    Thanks from Lahore, Pakistan.❤❤

I've really appreciated your "desk" videos and also this format was really impactful and human. I definitely get caught up in comparison to higher produced content until I remember that sometimes people just want to see (and get perspective/help from) people being chill and heartfelt. Thank you for the reminder and for being so awesome with your service, Ali. If you ever want to sprinkle this format in from time to time, I'm here for it! Take care 🫶

Love it. I’m going to use that mindset for my RUclips channel “This one is going to be reasonable the next one will be good” giving value to just 1 person is a great mindset. Thank you.

Hey Ali, your video is a real eye-opener for me. I've been wanting to start a RUclips channel for ages, but I always get stuck thinking no one will watch my videos or that they won't be good enough. I have all these ideas about creating the "perfect" video that will stand out on RUclips... and that need for "perfection" has resulted in me not uploading a single thing!

This is a super relatable and helpful video! I love Ali's down-to-earth approach to tackling perfectionism and overthinking. It's really encouraging to hear that even successful RUclipsrs struggle with these things, and that there are practical ways to overcome them.

Ali, I'm wired like you when it comes to self-judging and creating obstacles ("it needs to be the best I can do") to getting things done. I think your intro clip verbalized a mantra I have to use to guide myself back to the road when I end up in a ditch: "done is better than perfect." I'm only 67, so there's still time for me to mend my ways, and I'm optimistic. Anyway, hearing your discussion helps remind me of things that make me better and feel better. It's not wasting time, and I/we are not judging you negatively. Keep doing what you're doing. Try another mantra I heard and am internalizing: "whatever happens, I don't mind." I think it's a Buddhist idea.
One thing I struggle with: household repairs that are clear for a couple steps, but then I don't know what will happen, so I delay (I call it "doing more research").

I love the off-the-cuff style video & taking action. Plus the park looked so pretty!
I have been working on this, without having the vocabulary previously of the “saboteur,” my theme for myself lately is to hesitate less and take action on what I need to do. Something I have been struggling with a little has been balancing the pressure of what I think I SHOULD be doing & spending my time on, rather than being comfortable and proud of what I AM actually doing. I’m trying to trust myself and the processes, and lean into patience and knowing that I will get better on the next one & develop as I go!
Thanks for sharing, Ali (& Andy)!

Hey Ali. I’ve got quite off-topic question. I’ve recently seen two of your videos. One about that you don’t prefer being manager and leader over being a doer, and you love to teach, and second about your keyboard and that you want to create bussines which won’t involve you basically. The question is „how do you hold those two mindsets together?”

One thing I struggle with is not letting myself experiment beyond the borders of predefined niches, before anything has even had the chance to get off the ground. I realized through making videos that it's easier to just express yourself and see what happens in the beginning. It's easy to limit ourselves by what we think is palatable to others; but as Ali said if it has the potential to help at least one person, it's worth putting out there and seeing what happens. I appreciated this video a lot! Random cities in the US look beautiful to visit.

ALI I LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS VIDEO SO MUCH.
First, love the Midwest US representation (I'm from OHIO though, the one that ppl confuse with IOWA with surprising frequency...)
But more importantly I vibe with the need to make "perfect" videos. I've had my channel for a year, and the more editing skills I attain the more I want to show them off because in my mind "good" videos have a lot of fancy editing. But then I'm spending all day working on ONE video and I forget that I'm supposed to have a life outside of RUclips...so that I have more things to talk about in the next video, right??
You are reminding me to slow down and focus on helping people vs trying to make everything perfect, which is what it's all about fren. And take more walks outside, and don't let lawncare professionals screw up your flow. All the things. Thank you 💜

This video came at the right time. Even though I've had some pretty big videos (for my channel size), I've been fairly inconsistent with my video uploads. I constantly find myself in Notion, Notes, or Reminders trying to put together the perfect pre-production steps to "be ready" for the video instead of shooting. The thought process you outline is something I look forward to trying the next time I get stuck in the "what if it's not good enough" thought loop. Thanks, Ali!

Thank you so much for this video sir
Just after my 1st yr med exams I have started watching ur videos , my sister has already shared ur channel but I don't know how I ignored it and now I am regretting
But anyways ur videos have impacted my life like anything sir thanks a lot
And that one of the people who will find it helpful is me
And in my vacation waiting for results of 1st yr finals exams I have purchased ur book and I have read it
And it was the best thing I have done in my holidays
I don't know but just by looking at ur face all the positivity will come to me with the speed of light😁
And one thing I am struggling is that
I will make a plan for the day for a "productivity day" but after doing that by half i feel like no need to be this good and I feel like let's enjoy by watching movies and all I should not waste my college life etc
But after doing that I will definitely regret it
I hope I will get out of this
It's not like the procrastination but I don't know how to express it
But any way thank you so much for the videos sir
    They were the best❤

Honestly respect the authentic feel from your videos as a whole, but this seemed to focus on it and it is respectable.
One thing i struggle with is that i cannot get out of bed for the life of me when my alarms go off. To be fair I have taught myself that i can do this and not face lots of consequences and that "I need proper rest to have a productive day" . . . well I do, but I do not need to sleep into 10am to fulfill that but it makes me easy to justify to myself. On the other hand, I subscribe to the idea of momentum and it sets me up for a more productive day if i get up early and I love morning air and the vibes so much. My systems have all fallen through, and I would like your advice on what kind of systems you use.

Tbf Ali probably rich enough to outsource large amounts of his parenting but still, would be really interesting to see how he navigates it all. Thanks for the content

I struggle a ton with my inner critic (or the saboteur as you put it). I've been doing RUclips for almost 2 years now and sometimes feel like it hasn't gotten easier because I find some way to make my videos more complex! But like you, I remind myself that I'm usually pretty pleased with how things turn out after a video is edited.
