As this video shows, you can find some gems in Goodwill. However, in my opinion, they have become rediculous on many things. It's not just them though (technically every business has) as many thrift stores have followed suit. I was in one where I live last week (whom is a charity and gets items donated) and came across a very old but also well worn trunk. Still seeing the beauty in it I looked at the $500 tag for about ten seconds to make sure I wasn't seeing things before just leaving and not buying anything.
I agree with you completely! Thrift stores were started so that poor people could afford to buy clothes and other items. In many thrift stores today you go in and end up feeling as though you’ve stepped into a high end antique store or a consignment shop where buyers expect to pay top dollar for their items. It’s very difficult to imagine being poor and not even having the money to buy a few necessities at any thrift store.
I manage a Thrift Store and what most people don't take into consideration is the cost of running a business. Rent, insurance, vehicle cost, workers comp, utilities and much more. We rely a lot on volunteers and very limited paid employees. Even though items are donated the cost of running a business is huge. Our profits go to building homes for the needy. Believe me when I say neither me or my staff are getting rich. We cannot afford to sell items at rock bottom prices but what we do offer is good products at fair prices.
Thank you dr. Lori you always have the best content I went shopping with my mother and got a couple glass wear & frames I love how you always joke around and even make fun of yourself dr. Lori It’s so sweet makes me feel like we know you Your awesome !
Like you, I loved the blue glass loaf pan! 🥰 Thanks for sharing this thrifting shopping trip with us! I always enjoy your lessons on what you find! Happy Sunday Dr Lori! ☺️✌️❤️🦋🙏
Just love these Goodwill videos! I think I learn more, faster in these videos than in any other. Maybe because these are things that are accessible to all of us, at least knew and then! I wanted that Victorian chair so bad I could taste it... Tastes like wood❤
I will be unpacking my mom's old teacups and saucers!!!!!!!! Wish my sister and I knew about the milk glass!!! My mom had a TON of them!!!!! We would have kept them!!!!!
Dr. Lori, I love your thrifting videos! I greatly anticipate them. I learn so much about many pieces I already own and things I am on the lookout for. Thank you.
Dr Lori, love your videos. I've been thrifting for decades for myself. I've flipped a few things, donated back some but it's a fun hobby. I agree the florist vases may not be a good deal to flip but they've really up'd their game with very nice glass & pottery pieces, many made in the USA.
Love these Goodwill videos. I have quite a few near me, the closest being the best one. I just picked up 3 beautiful vases last night. One I’m pretty sure is Waterford, one is a tall large Lexox and don’t have any idea what the last one is but it’s a nice extra large heavy vase. Mostly they had glass vases but I look for the lead crystal ones that won’t tip over with a large bouquet of flowers. Love your videos like this.
I love these videos you are doing at the Goodwill Stores. I have found that the Goodwill stores here in Vegas are a little high. The Salvation Army store is the one I frequent weekly. I got a pair of black leather thigh high boots there for $9.00. Always a pleasure to watch and learn from your videos, Dr. Lori!😁💯👍
@@DrLoriV Omg I just watched, and you and I have lots in common! Sorry about your Father. My Dad was in WWll, and I am the youngest of three girls. My grandparents lived downstairs as we grew up, so I learned to appreciate things from their generation as well. Well, thanks again! I enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about you.
I do like French presses. I use them in the winter and I got a copper one off of Amazon. It’s just beautiful. And then another one for five dollars at Goodwill because the one I had that was my brothers the carafe broke and you can’t replace those glass inserts.
I agree with many of the comments, here in Canada many of the thrift stores (Value Villiage, Talize, etc) are selling things at retail prices so there is little-to-no room for re-selling. However, if you know what you're looking for, you can find hidden gems! I recently found a beautiful piece of blue Murano (ashtray style) with gold leaf and bullicante, for $10!! So it's still possible, we just have to hunt harder than we used to!
I don't know what Goodwill Dr.Lori goes to, but there is not a Goodwill in my entire town plus the little neighboring towns that would have anywhere near that many options😆 I check the one closest to my house every other day and The only thing I've found in there glass wise were 2 cordial glasses in the Mt.Vernon pattern but Cambridge and a cream and sugar set by Fenton iin milkglass which are 2 great finds but this is EVER I've been browsing that store for Years! No way would I ever find that many options in a day😅
Dr. Lori, I love that you are doing these types of videos, it is very helpful seeing them out there on the shelves, but I was wondering when you are putting all of these things back on the shelf, what do you buy for yourself when you go thrifting when not filming for your RUclips channel?
The 1st thing you picked up is a Fenton Button and Daisy top hat. Many of them are colored and worth more than the clear. I have an amber colored one up on Ebay that hasn't sold.
Have you watched my videos that focus on reselling? Have you read my articles on my website at www.DrLoriV.com where I talk about reselling? I also offer classes on reselling.
I need to get some appraisals from you. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can arrange that. When I lived in Colorado Springs I found a lot of 0:03 beautiful, collectible glass. Being ten minutes from where they made Fenton there’s a lot of it going around here. But I’m most excited about the amberina and curious how much my collection may be worth. Corning glass was in the area as well. Don’t get me started on marbles. 😅
After a purge and trip to donate, I realized a tossed all my vases. All from a florist, nothing of value. So back to goodwill to purchase a vase as I do buy bouquets. Got a beautiful lead glass bouquet vase for 3.99. Looked up the mark and selling on eBay anywhere from 50.00 to 150.00 😊. I’m keeping mine.
I like your videos. I have sold a lot on line. The milk glass items and a lot of Fenton doesn't seem to be selling well. I think some of the prices you are quoting are a little high. Avon is collectible but I can't see really making any money on it.
Is fine china transparent at all? Im trying to see if my NORITAKE CHINA JAPAN 5558 BLUEBELL is made of bone china or fine china. I can see light through it but i dont have anything to compare it to 🤷🏻♀️ thank you so much for your help ❤
I love to watch you at Goodwill. I always feel a little smarter afterwards. 😊
I'm loving the shop with me format, Dr. Lori!! Thanks for always trying fun new ways to teach us. You're THE BEST!
Hi Dr. Lori! I love these "thrift trips" you take us on. I've learned so much 👍🏽
Thanks, Dr. Lori. It's just nice to know what pieces are used for. Like the bouillon bowl.

That's ridiculous

I have that rocking chair! Bought at an estate sale several years ago. Love it. It is a very comfortable.

I just recently bought 24 cups & saucers at an Estate Sale and was thrilled that they had secured the sets with shrink wrap!
I like your personan in the stores. At the events you sound real bossy!!😊😊😊
How odd to see you shopping and critiquing. I love it. Please do more.
That was fun and informative
Amazing what we learn from you.
The powder dish with the swan....looks interesting
Dr. Lori….do you teach? Because you’d be wonderful! You’re very thorough and simplify the language of antiques. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you. You may learn more about me and read a brief bio on my website at www.drloriv.com/about-dr-lori/who-is-dr-lori/

I have that exact rocking chair - I love it! I probably bought it for 200

Gotta love CT in the 70tys.
I've seen the swan powder dish but didn't know the lipstick went on top
Wish you would come to my Goodwill store I work at in Arizona. It would be such a pleasure! Love your videos❤

Dr. Lori, you are like a hen that lays golden eggs!

Dt Lori, wish I knew you were in the area, I'm like 30 minutes south
love that embroidered chair, i see those chairs missing the embroidered backs sometimes. they are so uncomfortable then.
Thank you 🌻
I'm going to have to sell my teacups online then because they're not selling locally
Have you watched my videos that talk about selling? I also offer classes on reselling. See the list of upcoming dates under 'Events' on my website.
What a shame Goodwill doesn't know about the tape issue. Perhaps you could speak to the manager and pass a helpful tip along.
My local Goodwill's do not use tape. They use something like suran wrap. So much better.
People are making candles out of those teacups! I just collect d cups cuz I love them! I also grew up in the '70s in Connecticut!
TY for the VIDEO 😊 PEACE
I like your videos. I have sold a lot on line. The milk glass items and a lot of Fenton doesn't seem to be selling well. I think some of the prices you are quoting are a little high. Avon is collectible but I can't see really making any money on it.
Happy to hear that you enjoy the videos. My values are based on what people have actually paid. Based on actual sales records.
Is fine china transparent at all? Im trying to see if my NORITAKE
CHINA
JAPAN 5558
BLUEBELL is made of bone china or fine china. I can see light through it but i dont have anything to compare it to 🤷🏻♀️ thank you so much for your help ❤
I can help identify your china. Need to see it. Send me photos. Use my website at www.DrLoriV.com
We would make a candle out of the tea cups an sauces
Is the glass swan make-up holder Swarovski? Or did I hear you say Avon?
my mom had a clothes pin bag that hung on the line
