As soon as he said “she ran away for 2 hours” I was like WTF..... you might go to the mall for two hours, but to consider someone ‘ran away’ after two hours is fucking insanely controlling.
I mean as someone who's had an abusive ex that did a lot of stuff like that the "she ran away for 2, 3 hours" could be an innocent and true statement...without all the other mountains of evidence. I had an ex much like how the husband tried to paint the wife after her death, but I didn't put up a ton of cameras or get violent I just left. She would pick fights and then incredibly dramatically pack her stuff and leave, and then come back knocking like 2 hours later. She wanted to make me upset and fear missing her but I was the one with the job, not her (another opposite in this case) so as soon as she started thinking about living on her own she'd cool down quick and stop using it as a tactic. Btw I broke up with that girl because she wouldn't get a job to help us both move into a nicer, bigger place I wasn't keeping her dependent at ALL I wanted her to have more freedom from me lol. Just saying someone manipulative and short sighted ABSOLUTELY can "run away" for 2 hours.

I had the same reaction. He didn’t say she packed her bags. He only said she “went missing” for as much as, um.. 4 hours. Although, your experience does offer an interesting alternative perspective, which I respect. It just seemed odd the way he said it.
This is true - but not (always) how you outline it. Context matters. This behavior is often used in a controlling situation by the party who leaves or threatens to leave. I've observed this behavior numerous times in unhealthy relationships (including platonic and familial) and was taught and have read about it, as well. This is, unfortunately, a common unhealthy behavior.
He even went so far as saying said " he had a tracker on her, because she was always running away, and he always had to go find her.". I could tell that dude was evil from his wedding pics. What a creepy lookin dude. Ill always be sadned by how women hook up with evil men.
When he made his daughter call her mom and say “Mommy we have to take a vacation, we need to save this family” you know he told her to say that. That poor girl probably felt like it was up to her to save her family! 😢

Lmao, exactly! My mom "goes missing" to the grocery store all the time, especially since they've added a makeup section. She's sometimes in town for a full-work day, running errands and helping friends and family. Guess I need to start installing cameras... Man, this dude has some deep-rooted issues, though. I couldn't and wouldn't put up with him, especially after being under the thumb of my own family member for years until my mom and I got out when I was nineteen. I'm twenty-six now, and I don't put up with anything.
Just like the creeper who says he is a "nice guy". Or the toxic, vile woman who says she 's "a good Christian woman". In my opinion, anyone who has to say they're something, are the opposite. Those are red flags. Nice guys are just nice, they don't broadcast it. Good Christian women are just that, they don't have to hammer the fact. So we had a Police Chief in Tacoma, Washington some years back. He was a card carrying possessive freak. He used to among other things, make his wife weigh in weekly. Well, one day she had had enough of it and gave him the boot as well she should have. A while later he hunted her down in a local parking lot and blew her brains out as well as his own... in front of their two kids. I think all things considered, it's pretty clear Niki was a screamer with at least some violent tendencies, I mean listening to her she'd go from zero to a hundred easily. And overstated things to make them seem like things they weren't. I mean she aid he threatened to kill her, when he corrected her that what he said was the next time she tries to kill herself he isn't going to stop her. And he response was "That's the same thing." And it really isn't. Also clear is that he was a pervy, passive-aggressive, manipulative, jerk, also with violent tendencies. And I think it's clear he k!lled her, but I think those kids were telling the truth. Which is always messy and complicated.
It's actually not uncommon for the children in an abusive household to end up siding with the abuser, not only out of fear but largely because they start to feel resentment toward the person making the abuser angry all the time. It's really sick and twisted.
As soon as they start explaining themselves away, demonizing the potential victim, and quickly establishing their alibi, they should be and usually are considered the prime suspect.

That recording where he was outlining what she would say could very well have been part of a larger conversation where she talked about those points or asked her dad to help her word things. They seemed fairly open and honest in court, and not looking as if they were being coached or influenced. Anyways, we really don't know what went on in that house, despite those cherry-picked recordings. She may indeed might have been a very angry, erratic person. He might well have been the one who killed her. But I think, objectively, there's room for reasonable doubt...
It seems strange to me. The daughter was clearly old enough to use a phone. The daughter also supports her father. So why does he say he made her call. Couldn't it also be possible the daughter just called her mother.

If you're telling someone exactly what to say it's because you don't believe they'll say the "right" thing without you. If he really was a good dad he wouldn't be drilling into them that they need to make it super clear how wonderful he is, he'd just assume that will be clear because he's a good and loving dad and his kids will be honest. But that's not what's happening, he's making statements and then saying "OK?", he's 100% coaching them, and coaching someone in their testimony isn't allowed/ok, no matter who's doing it. While he was talking to his daughter he also repeatedly made claims about the mom and her family being shitty and unstable, and wanted his kid to mention that kind of stuff on the news, which is another TERRIBLE thing for a parent to be doing. "Go on TV and besmirch the memory of your dead mother, and smear the reputation of basically all the family you have other than me and your paternal grandfather." That's seriously fucked up, that shows no sympathy at all to his kids who just lost their mom, and in general is a terrible lesson. My parents went through an ugly divorce but my dad always encouraged me to treat my mom with respect because it's the right way to behave. This guy is such an obvious piece of shit, I feel bad for his poor kids.
Hearing the daughter just repeatedly replying "Yes, sir" as Matt gives her a script to tell the press I think gives us a pretty good idea of what he was like as a dad.
I see nothing wrong for a child saying "Sir" to their father. It is a sign of respect and something all children should have for their parent and elders. It doesn't change my belief that he is guilty

What was more telling to me than any individual statement, though, was his very measured vocal inflection. You get a REAL strong scent of "rapist" when he says she's "unbalanced" and has some "fear of intimacy". Sounds much more like she feared his ignoring that little thing called "consent" when he wanted sex. Especially given the audio recordings of his complaining she was "crazy" whenever she didn't want to let him assault her.
Once I met a dude at a bus stop and we casually talked for 20 minutes while waiting for the bus. At the end, he propositioned me, and I naturally said "no." He then launched into a concerned line of questioning asking why I "feared intimacy" and whether or not I had been interfered with as a child. He seemed to seriously believe all of this was my problem, and did not understand that a normal person does not want to immediately bang someone they just met at a bus stop. Because I am relatively normal, I did not go on to date or marry this dude. He probably did go on to meet someone else upon whom he used his weird reasoning to get some nooky. Hopefully that poor woman did not marry him either, but it seems to happen frequently enough (as with the Leilli marriage) and that's concerning.

These kids had to choose the father after their mum died, as she wasn’t there to be a buffer. Plus they were living with him alone for years after her murder.

The way Matt says to the cops "I'm not some over possessive freak" while he's got 21 cameras around the house and hides trackers in his wife's belongings.... He's also a huge manipulator based on the audio recordings. Not saying the wife didn't have issues, she probably did, but Matt sounds beyond crazy.
We have no real reason to believe the wife had issues. Her family say she never had issues like that. The voice recordings, they are a fight, thats how I screamed at my partner to keep them away from me too when I was afraid they would get to close and turn violent. THE ONLY people saying she had issues or was a violent person are Matt and his two children which were brainwashed at the time.
When they get you to a point where you're mentally exhausted and confused and tired of explaining yourself over and over.... This is how you react. You explode and they use that as a way to manipulate you even more. It's really sad.
@@juice_wink I had always considered myself a reasonably calm, constructive arguer until I met my ex. All of a sudden, every time we had any kind of issue, it would escalate until I found myself yelling and swearing and getting completely out of control. I had no idea what was happening, until I did a little research and realized that what he was doing was classic narcissistic manipulation. You can't engage with that kind of mind-fuckery without absolutely losing it. And it goes DEEP. It took me a solid two or three months to unfuck myself, and we only dated for three months. Not saying this guy is a narcissist (I don't know and won't assume), but if he is, even the calmest, most level-headed person will find themselves drawn into debate after debate with him, exhibiting behavior they aren't proud of and have no control over.

I was thinking it was more the opposite... She was mentally and emotionally abusive to him, until he snapped... Not that I view him as more of a victim than her, he is still the bigger asshole for killing her, but I think that she emotionally bullied him. Based on things he and their kids said, and also things said on the audio recordings, I believe that she likely had a personality disorder, perhaps Borderline Personality Disorder, and dealing with BPD spouse can drive a person crazy. Really it's their children that I feel bad for...
Supposedly the youngest daughters are back in contact with their oldest sister from Nique's previous marriage, and the grandmother, their mom's mother. There was an article about this from an interview with the oldest daughter about a year ago. It said the two youngest girls which were Matt and Nique's two daughters are coming around to their mom's side of the family more and more, so hopefully they see the truth for what it is by this point, but connecting with the oldest sister and grandmother is a good start because I know both of them really wanted to be with the girls again. I live in Atlanta and have been following this case for years since it happened. It's still a pretty big case here :)
Absolutely. He was manipulating them too. He was spying on them as well. He had cameras all over the home and was watching his family like a hawk. He was controlling over the youngest daughters just like he was his wife. I just think it was harder for them to see it cause they loved their dad and trusted him. He wasn't abusing them physically and verbally like he was their mother, but I have no doubt he would've progressed to that point with them as they become older. Nique herself didn't see it for years, but according to her sister there were red flags from the start of their relationship before they married. It just got worse over the years. The funny thing is Nique's oldest daughter never liked him from day one, they never got along, and a couple years into the marriage the oldest daughter demanded Nique to allow her to live with her father which Nique agreed, so she got out of that household pretty early on. She was the only one who was never fooled by him from the beginning
Whats scary is that in previous generations he wouldve been able to lobotomize Nique for not having sex with him, being angry at his abuse, gaslighting etc.
What's even more disturbing than having his kids call him "sir" is how he manipulated the youngest daughter to beg for her mom to come home so they can go on vacation to "heal the family." A child wouldn't use that term, it's obvious her dad was using her and likely had told them that their mother doesn't want to heal the family.
@Uncle Cloud....Although I may not be on the extreme viewpoint as you, I do think this lady was a piece of work. I would have loved to hear what her two ex husbands thought about her. And everyone....please stop saying he manipulated those kids! Those girls seem grown enough, where they can form their own opinion and express what they deem is the truth. I’m not justifying his actions and I do think he’s guilty. But, I also don’t like how people are painting her as this angel, who fell victim to a predator. To be honest, they were both no good for one another and played a part in ruining their family.

When talking with parents, it's more common to say dad or mom. Even considering I live in the Deep South, it's extremely odd to use honorifics for your family members in the way it's used here.

I had an ex much like how the husband tried to paint the wife after her death, but I didn't put up a ton of cameras or get violent I just left. She would pick fights and then incredibly dramatically pack her stuff and leave, and then come back knocking like 2 hours later. She wanted to make me upset and fear missing her but I was the one with the job, not her (another opposite in this case) so as soon as she started thinking about living on her own she'd cool down quick and stop using it as a tactic.
Btw I broke up with that girl because she wouldn't get a job to help us both move into a nicer, bigger place I wasn't keeping her dependent at ALL I wanted her to have more freedom from me lol. Just saying someone manipulative and short sighted ABSOLUTELY can "run away" for 2 hours.

This is true - but not (always) how you outline it. Context matters. This behavior is often used in a controlling situation by the party who leaves or threatens to leave.
I've observed this behavior numerous times in unhealthy relationships (including platonic and familial) and was taught and have read about it, as well. This is, unfortunately, a common unhealthy behavior.

I think all things considered, it's pretty clear Niki was a screamer with at least some violent tendencies, I mean listening to her she'd go from zero to a hundred easily. And overstated things to make them seem like things they weren't. I mean she aid he threatened to kill her, when he corrected her that what he said was the next time she tries to kill herself he isn't going to stop her. And he response was "That's the same thing." And it really isn't.
Also clear is that he was a pervy, passive-aggressive, manipulative, jerk, also with violent tendencies. And I think it's clear he k!lled her, but I think those kids were telling the truth. Which is always messy and complicated.
It's actually not uncommon for the children in an abusive household to end up siding with the abuser, not only out of fear but largely because they start to feel resentment toward the person making the abuser angry all the time. It's really sick and twisted.

That recording where he was outlining what she would say could very well have been part of a larger conversation where she talked about those points or asked her dad to help her word things. They seemed fairly open and honest in court, and not looking as if they were being coached or influenced.
Anyways, we really don't know what went on in that house, despite those cherry-picked recordings. She may indeed might have been a very angry, erratic person. He might well have been the one who killed her. But I think, objectively, there's room for reasonable doubt...

my dad keeps trying to do this to me against my mother at the moment. im an adult now and i know what he is like so i can handle it but it annoys me so much. he cheated on her and thats what ended their marriage as well as him being abusive. she has never said anything bad about him, infact quite the opposite as she tries to encourage her kids to be in his life, but he badmouths the heck out of her. situations i know is 100% his fault abuse on me as a kid HE says its all her fault... AS IF i'm blind and deaf and don't see or hear who does what to me. I dont know why they think they are such great manipulators they manage to do it to a couple of people they think they can do it to everyone. This case proved otherwise. Ha i'm actually going to say that to him next time he tries to blame my mum for something... 'you know i'm not actually deaf and blind right?'

But that's not what's happening, he's making statements and then saying "OK?", he's 100% coaching them, and coaching someone in their testimony isn't allowed/ok, no matter who's doing it.
While he was talking to his daughter he also repeatedly made claims about the mom and her family being shitty and unstable, and wanted his kid to mention that kind of stuff on the news, which is another TERRIBLE thing for a parent to be doing.

That's seriously fucked up, that shows no sympathy at all to his kids who just lost their mom, and in general is a terrible lesson.
My parents went through an ugly divorce but my dad always encouraged me to treat my mom with respect because it's the right way to behave.

You get a REAL strong scent of "rapist" when he says she's "unbalanced" and has some "fear of intimacy". Especially given the audio recordings of his complaining she was "crazy" whenever she didn't want to let him assault her.
Once I met a dude at a bus stop and we casually talked for 20 minutes while waiting for the bus. At the end, he propositioned me, and I naturally said "no." He then launched into a concerned line of questioning asking why I "feared intimacy" and whether or not I had been interfered with as a child.
He seemed to seriously believe all of this was my problem, and did not understand that a normal person does not want to immediately bang someone they just met at a bus stop.
Because I am relatively normal, I did not go on to date or marry this dude. He probably did go on to meet someone else upon whom he used his weird reasoning to get some nooky. Hopefully that poor woman did not marry him either, but it seems to happen frequently enough (as with the Leilli marriage) and that's concerning.

All of a sudden, every time we had any kind of issue, it would escalate until I found myself yelling and swearing and getting completely out of control. I had no idea what was happening, until I did a little research and realized that what he was doing was classic narcissistic manipulation. You can't engage with that kind of mind-fuckery without absolutely losing it. And it goes DEEP. It took me a solid two or three months to unfuck myself, and we only dated for three months.
Not saying this guy is a narcissist (I don't know and won't assume), but if he is, even the calmest, most level-headed person will find themselves drawn into debate after debate with him, exhibiting behavior they aren't proud of and have no control over.

Supposedly the youngest daughters are back in contact with their oldest sister from Nique's previous marriage, and the grandmother, their mom's mother. There was an article about this from an interview with the oldest daughter about a year ago. It said the two youngest girls which were Matt and Nique's two daughters are coming around to their mom's side of the family more and more, so hopefully they see the truth for what it is by this point, but connecting with the oldest sister and grandmother is a good start because I know both of them really wanted to be with the girls again.
I live in Atlanta and have been following this case for years since it happened. It's still a pretty big case here :)

Absolutely. He was manipulating them too. He was spying on them as well. He had cameras all over the home and was watching his family like a hawk. He was controlling over the youngest daughters just like he was his wife. I just think it was harder for them to see it cause they loved their dad and trusted him. He wasn't abusing them physically and verbally like he was their mother, but I have no doubt he would've progressed to that point with them as they become older. Nique herself didn't see it for years, but according to her sister there were red flags from the start of their relationship before they married. It just got worse over the years. The funny thing is Nique's oldest daughter never liked him from day one, they never got along, and a couple years into the marriage the oldest daughter demanded Nique to allow her to live with her father which Nique agreed, so she got out of that household pretty early on. She was the only one who was never fooled by him from the beginning

Separation from their father's influence may help (not if he's still communicating from jail) and a very knowledgeable therapist that challenges their thinking about lies their father has repeated can get them back on track.

Nique Leili was incredible, holding her ground under so much pressure and gaslighting. She knew the situation clearly enough to use his creeper cams to record evidence. It's so hard to stay that objective in an abusive environment. Truly disgusting the way he got his hooks into the kids and used them against her. I wish she'd had someone to help her get the kids out so she could have left for good. What a remarkable person.

I can see both sides of it, naturally the right thing to do was to stand up for her, but it came at the cost of their only remaining parent. Heavy shit. I can't blame them for how they handled a situation I can't imagine being forced into.
Not a betrayal. They were kids. They had one parent left who was controlling and manipulative. It's very understandable why they did what they did. Hopefully they grow to understand the emotional and psychological abuse they endured from their father and they feel no guilt.
