I think he had to be thinking the view was real time or close to real time so that he was looking to see if the scene had been discovered or messed with not to mention they say killers often revisit the places they dispose of victims. I think Ted Bundy was well known for that
@@MDCxThePG They were doing a search in the area... it was well known throughout Orange that volunteers were searching around that area and he was checking to see how close the search was to the area he put her body.
What a stark contrast in portraits of selflessness and selfishness. Maribel took care of her siblings; served her country bravely with two tours of duty in Iraq; and offered friendship to someone who had no one; in contrast, KC responded to her kindness with possessive obsession and violently robbed her of her life when he failed to meet his obligations as a roommate. Not only does KC himself contribute nothing to society, but he also deprived society of someone who gave so much.

KC Joy is actually from Korea not China. When this came out, the Korean community in OC and the entire U.S. was mortified. We still feel a sense of shame whenever we hear about the terrible suffering his crime is causing. RIP Maribel.

I agree with the woman's sentiment, it is supposed to be innocent before proven guilty after all. That being said, the guy who called him out does deserve credit. You do have to be sharp and critical enough to catch that (or at least knowledgeable of true crime stuff).

The fact that the investigators weren't already watching his every move is insane. The 911 call and the yelp posts scream guilty.
Referring to her in the past tense was a dead giveaway. I would have said something about that bit too.
He was obviously looking for attention, googling anything in relation to Ramos and plugging himself in the convo, a red alarm sign when you combine it with the other elements.
I guarantee they were were monitoring him. Those comments would help nothing in a court case. They needed a lot more than that.

Seriously... It makes me so sad that a heroic young woman who seemed to have worked so hard to make a nice life for herself... Opened her home to a man and welcomed him into her life when few else, if any, would... It's awful. She deserved much better. My heart goes out to her family and true friends, who I'm certain love and miss her far more than that horrid excuse for a roommate ever does.

YES! People don't get that. Once a friend told me that he was obsessed with another woman and he thought that I was jealous. He was very surprised and insulted when I told him that I need him obsessing over me, like I need a migraine. I truly can't understand how obsession or jealousy are considered as signs of love. They're not!
Love is just brain chemicals. There’s no set definition of it. Insane people do insane things all the time because they feel love.

I don't think he did it. Why would he look up the location of the body on the library computer after burying it? He would already know where it was. And apart from that, there's no evidence.
It really irks me that he keeps saying how he misses her more than anyone....what a slap in the face to her family and other loved ones who genuinely cared for and miss her.
Some of those pictures look like ones that you’d take with your boyfriend/girlfriend, so this older weirdo misinterprets the situation, becomes obsessed with her, and setting things in motion that ultimately results in this weirdo taking the poor girl’s life.
I don’t think moving in a financially unstable single male foreigner who was her senior by 20+ years and taking on the role of his “BFF” was a good idea in hindsight.

It's cases like this that anger me the most. Obsession that goes so far that he probably truly believes that nobody misses her as much as he does. Like even after having murdered her he feels like he has some kind of claim over her... same thing with the dogtags. And the fact that Maribel knew she was in danger but just couldn't get rid of his clingy ass.

They always have to talk to the news. It’s like their signature move. Being on camera playing the part of the grieving friend/ fam member. It’s a spectacle but a very telling one.
He keeps saying he “misses her more than anyone” or “is more worried than anyone” and it’s beyond insulting to her actual love ones.
It was actually a very telling sign that he's done something to her. People tend to exaggerate everything when they're lying or covering something up.

Yet, I don't think this may be even considered to be the case, as he uses the same things over and over again: "my one and only family", "my absolute bff", etc. Also, I speak Korean and even though its vocabulary is different from Chinese, culturally there are similarities. He doesn't use that complex of a dictionary to say that he might not be acquainted with the correct meaning. And it doesn't really matter as in either language, the use of these extra exaggerations would mean the same thing - "I'm hiding something or I'm lying about something".

I remember seeing a show on this case and it really drove how incredibly vulnerable the average woman is. She was a trained soldier and still this pos was able to kill her. Unfortunately women don’t have the luxury of being kind to these lost puppy type people especially when it’s somebody who can hurt or kill them

It struck me that he waited until she was asleep to attack her. That was quite probably because he knew (possibly from experience) that he could not win a physical altercation any other way. Even the hulk would be vulnerable to such deviousness. A POS indeed.

This thread is getting victim blamey. If you've never been stuck in a situation with someone you're scared of, then you have no idea why she acted the way she did. Listen to her 911 call again. She was terrified of him. I know personally I've been overly nice and accommodating to creeps, because they're scary. I can't imagine what it must have been like to have to live with him.

I was there with Lucy, Maribels sister, during the time Maribel went missing. I went with Lucy to Maribels apartment to obtain some of her property and I met her neighbor KC. He seemed calm and complying with letting Lucy search in the apartment while I was outside talking to him. But knowing that he was convicted of the killing; was horrible!

Maribel was beautiful, smart, and accomplished and it's easy to see how someone could develop a crush on her but it's impossible to understand how someone could murder her because she didn't feel the same way. This story is incredibly heartbreaking.

Let's pretend for a second that he were innocent and after making his suspicious comments the police focused solely on him. It takes the investigation in the wrong direction. Then we have the constitution promising every defendant is entitled to a trial by an impartial jury of his or her peers. We are all his peers right? If we happened to come across that yelp post which happened before the arrest and come to a decision on his guilt... Things like that can create situations where it causes even more injustice to the already grieving family. Or it could lead to an innocent person going to prison.
That guy gave very sound advice which is good for everyone involved.

He should have been the suspect from day one with that 911 call. The entire family knew it was him, that is why they asked him why he was at her vigil. So glad the detectives tracked his activity at the library, that was the evidence they needed to arrest and convict. Be careful out there, not everyone deserves your kindness. R.I.P Maribel.

I was deployed with her in 03. I didn’t know her too well but I remember her being super cool. Always had a smile on her face. My best friend had the biggest crush on her. This is really sad.

I had an obsessed flat mate when I was 19, I am 60 now, he was in his 30's which was an old man to me then.
After several months I noticed his mood starting to change when my boyfriend visited, my gut instinct kicked in, so I broke the news to him I was moving out & in with my boyfriend, his face flushed and he started trembling.
I asked him how we would split the furnishings we went halves in, he said "you get what you paid for, half" he then got a knife and started cutting the kitchen linoleum in half, it really scared me so I took off & went back another time when his car wasn't there to get my stuff with a group of friends as protection.
The place was a mess, he had cut everything in half!! We grabbed my bedroom stuff as fast as we could & left the mess for him to deal with.
My advice, don't get too friendly with a room mate you don't know that well.
RIP to Maribel, very sad but interesting story.

horsepanther - I was scared but only after watching this have I counted my lucky stars. Yes, I think looking back I was in a pretty dangerous situation, young & too trusting, I always say "trust your gut" I think it is vital we do.

He gave my girlfriend (also 19) and me a lift to the train station as we were going to the airport to fly out to Spain for 2 weeks. When saying thank you & goodbye, he leaned forward and gave me a peck on the cheek & told us to have a great time, as he was walking away he was laughing & giggling to himself & looking back at me & was heavily limping, I was totally baffled & didn't get his "joke." I felt sick when my friend said because he kissed me on the cheek he was simulating an erection down his trouser leg. OMG, I was so innocent back then!

I think people often don't trust and/or listen to their gut instinct. If you think something is wrong, most likely something IS wrong. Get out, don't hesitate, hesitating can lead to regret. Once I was at Target, I let my older son go off to look at the toys (he was like 11). Took my daughter with me, got the cart seat on, buckled her in, and then all of a sudden the fire alarms start going off. I get a panicking feeling and since I was at the front I asked the security guard if this was legit or an accidental set of. He said nope, leave your cart and get out. My son was like, but what about all these people. I said and insisted we leave now. While we were walking out, I see the Target employees starting to leave the building, they proceed fast across the parking lot. While leaving there are people who were peering into the store, clearly can hear the alarms, they would not leave the store front. I rushed to my car, got the kids secured and booked it out. Most people choose to ignore or write off those feeling of threats or warnings. Yes, use scientific evidence as well, like a fire alarm is scientific, it's warning us to leave, but the amount of people who chose to stay and shop was astonishing. I'm glad you were ok and got out when you should have. It sounds like he was mentally ill and could have ended different
It’s really sad knowing that just being a good person with a big heart and trying to befriend and help and support someone of the opposite sex can make them become obsessed and feel like they are entitled to you somehow, and when they don’t get what they want out of the “friendship”, they can go to extreme lengths like this. They searched HIS apartment and found "no DNA, no finger prints"? That's weird.
not like they didn't find his fingerprints all over the place, but they didn't find abnormal prints or DNA out of place. Like they didn't find any of her blood on his carpet in his bedroom, or they didn't find her fingerprints on his nightstand. They didn't find his semen on her bed etc. Anytime cops do fingerprint searches they literally have to go through 100s up to 1000s of prints in a scene and they get a feel for what's normal and what's out of place. She likely never ever went in his room, so if they found 1 single print of hers like on the edge of a nightstand or the side of his bed, that would seem out of place because it's not a normal place to find it. If they found 1 of her hairs stuck in the side of his bedframe, that'd be out of place. But of all the fingerprinting they did, it all was within normal standards.

There's so much about this case that I'm still confused by. For instance, if KC killed her, how did he do it? Where did the murder occur? How did her body end up where it did? If he killed her in their home, there had to be something left behind to indicate the crime happened there, and if he killed her near the spot her body was found, how did he get her all the way out there? Maybe all of these questions were answered during the trial, but since Mike didn't reveal these details in this video, I'm still curious about them.
