I want to give you the highest compliment. even though we were local to this - you're information is better than anything we have heard locally or otherwise. Most You tube channel's care not for facts but clicks. Cudo's to you mate. Even the origin of the slang ''rock spider'',, i never could work it out, nor do people whom use it know the origin either, yet You are the other side of the world - the cold rainy side :) Also, people are not aware of the prevalence of Rock Spiders over here, in the area there and surrounding towns. The news played down - not mentioning their original motivation (I'm not condoning it) . This is something we learned years later. Snakes, Crocs, Dingos, more snakes, spiders, blue ringed octopii, box jelly fish - get a bad wrap over here - rightly so - however they have nothing on the real, institutionalized sexual murderous predators that are way more, numerous and dangerous. The the victims of abuse seek revenge and become twisted murderous, torturous abusers themselves. How the cops could take so long, and not respond etc etc is common, not surprising anymore. Mate, please pin this comment for others to see as my main point is to compliment your accuracy, and clearly thorough research. You are doing a great service with your films. Good educational material for parents with teenagers, and the likes of us trying to make sense of the twisted parts of our society. Onya, from ""Astraya"".
Yes, this post should be pinned. We have had problems with someone who is known as the local rockspider in a certain regional area in Queensland. He's been trying to get access to oiur children. They've killed our animals and weaponised the Bundaberg Magistrates Court anf the North Burnett Regional Council to try to physically locate us via constant harassment. Imagine my joy, as an Australian, waking up this fine Saturday morning to see what gift Mike has released.. An Australian Case! I remember this case, I was in my teens at the time, it still gives me the creeps. Crikey. Love your work Mike.
It's not unheard of for young abuse victims to grow up into abusers themselves. Certainly not true for all or even most, but it does happen. In a way, that's the biggest crime done to them: becoming the thing they hate the most.
James wasn't 14 when he helped with the murders he was 18 - 19 yrs old and I don't think he is as innocent as people like to pretend he is. He met Bunting when he was 14 yrs old and Bunting groomed him and Vlassakis enjoyed torturing and watching the victims being murdered just as much as Bunting did
I was sitting in a meeting and “SNIP SNIP NICKY!” Came through my head and I couldn’t control my laughter. That was an awkward moment in that meeting lol.
Being an Australian, I remember these murders. I've never been to Snowtown but I'm told the locals don't like being reminded about what happened there. I friend of mind stopped for a beer in the pub there, merely mentioned the murders and was then politely asked to finish his beer and leave. I guess I don't blame them.
They only stored the barrels there. Most happened in the suburbs north of adelaide. No wonder snowtown doesn't like to be associated with it. They named the movie snowtown when it should have been called Salisbury north
Starting your comment with "Being an Australian...." makes me think you're not Australian. It's a very common affectation of another nationality to qualify their speech before they've made it. Pack up your banjo and tell your story walking
@@photografiq_presents He is mentioning it probably cause it hits home to him more than any non Australian, you donut. Also, murders are not as frequent in Australia as they are in USA for example. @@photografiq_presents Being a South Australian, I can totally back up Greg's comment. The locals of Snowtown had nothing to do with the murders, and I remember that they detested the media at the time labeling them the "Snowtown Murders". I believe that what happened in the pub was probably quite likely, as the townsfolk would have hated any rubberneckers turning up to ask questions.

Costing the state government millions. Eventually the Judge told potential new Juror's be prepared to hear pure horror. if you think you can't finish what you start, leave now before your selected. It took 12 months more just to select a third time jury. This was a first in Australian criminal history.
It makes me so angry to know justice is never truly served. Because they will never suffer as much as their victims did! My heart hurts for those people who had to go through unspeakable pain and torment.
I feel you on this.. personally I think the kindest (?) Death penalty is a bullet to the head... Quick and clean. And while I fully understand the want to see those who carried ou utterly horrific crimes suffering the same way their victims did, I would be happier if they were quickly expunged from this world. I think it is bs that the legal system has successfully argued against some methods of death penalty under the guise of cruel and unusual punishment - seriously?!! But we need to be careful how we treat monsters, less we become monsters ourselves
@@katc6880 that's bullshit. You see most would stop killing if they knew the same faith was waiting on them. When I mean most I mean 99 expect those who just want to die.
@@masterpieces2218 no, there is a difference between killing and torture. Jail's around the world are full of people on death row (for how many years?) Or life in prison. Murdering someone doesn't equate to a death sentence yourself. It should. Torturing someone.... Lethal injection. You know the one that often goes wrong and involves some prolonged agony before death ensues? I'm good with that also As.for the families of the victims, I'm sure the thought of the perpetrators suffering would be welcome, but ultimately they just want them to no longer exist. Just my opinion. But (and I will be honest!) I'm sure if this was.closer to home then my opinions would change
My exact thoughts. You know how hard is to find people that share your values, views of the world and hobbies? It is not that easy! How come these people find people alike? They should be exceptions , minimum percentages among a broader amount of people, but they get to find each other. It just puzzles me. How is it possible that four sadistic killers find each other? It is not something you coud go pinning ads about!!

I visit Snowtown often and it’s a dying town, not much happens there anymore. The bank is bordered up, I doubt it will ever be opened again. Sure there’s talk of a museum as everyone who passes the town stops to take photos of the bank but the town is mostly against it as it did a number on the community.
That's interesting, as an Aussie, I'd heard years ago that the bank had been bulldozed because of the grief it brought the town. So, that was just a rumour? If they hated it that much and ppl coming their as a sick tourist attraction why didn't they bulldoze it, make a memorial park or something?
Morgan, hope you are managing just now. Sometimes that's the best we can do.... But I hope you know despite how you feel, you are not alone. I don't doubt you will get more replies from total strangers who (like me) genuinely wish we could make things even a little bit better for you. Take care x
Keep your head up! Hope all is well with you. I understand you completely. Some days are good; some are really bad. However, at the end of the day we're still breathing and there are people that care. People who will help and listen! So, one foot in front of the other and have a wonderful day. You got this!
I went to Snowtown a couple years back. It had a creepy vibe. It was just so quiet and eerie of course because the crimes committed and just being a really small town. The Pub owners were nice tho. We didn’t ask about the murders as I heard the locals get really annoyed when it’s mentioned.
From a South Australian - thank you! And you didn’t massacre the names at all! I love your delivery of all these stories and so interesting to see you cover one from so close to home. We Aussies seem to take a weird backwards pride in some of our notorious cases. Love it as always, thanks Mike! 😁

As an Australian I love hear other people try to do the accent. (almost as funny as listening to a conversation between a New Zealander and a South African)

"He had a good idea, according to himself" haha I love Mike's sense of humor!
The tortures would begin specifically with the song “Selling the Drama” from the album mentioned, Throwing Copper by Live. Bunting’s reason for this was likely the lyrics, which contain lines like this: “Now we won't be raped, hey Now we won't be scarred like that, hey Now we won't be raped , hey Now we won't be scarred like that,”
The fact that these kind of people are let back into society, knowing that they have a taste for it, torture and killing just for kicks, is scary AF, truly. 😬😳 Thanks for a great video and masterful storytelling as always Mike. D

Thank you for covering this one as well as you did Mike. I think the sense of humour really helps to get past some of the most horrific things people can do to each other in these cases. Here in Australia we've had our fair share of brutal killers. These events were also made into a movie called Snowtown which is an extremely difficult movie to watch as it doesn't shy away from the torture which was committed and has you genuinely uneasy and filled with a sense of dread throughout the entirety of the film.

It also snows in Tasmania, where some years they get snow on Mt Wellington overlooking the state capitol Hobart at Christmas.

Mayte!!! My wife and I are local to the area, and have followed this as it happened. I have also followed your channel for a while. I want to give you the highest compliment. even though we were local to this - you're information is better than anything we have heard locally or otherwise.
Most You tube channel's care not for facts but clicks. Cudo's to you mate. Even the origin of the slang ''rock spider'',, i never could work it out, nor do people whom use it know the origin either, yet You are the other side of the world - the cold rainy side :)
Also, people are not aware of the prevalence of Rock Spiders over here, in the area there and surrounding towns.

We've been forced to abandon our land and live in vehicles. The police won't do anything and nor will anyone else.

Imagine my joy, as an Australian, waking up this fine Saturday morning to see what gift Mike has released.. An Australian Case!
I remember this case, I was in my teens at the time, it still gives me the creeps. Crikey.
Love your work Mike.
This one and the Ivan Milat case that I think Mike also covered are both horrifying.
With that 14 year old I have a feeling John was the biggest Rock Spider of them all
Yeah it's usually the ones who protest too much. It's like male feminists, most of them have a sexual assault in their past.
@McFlickers out his/her ass.
He met Bunting when he was 14 yrs old and Bunting groomed him and Vlassakis enjoyed torturing and watching the victims being murdered just as much as Bunting did
I thought that too when mike mentioned how James was groomed. Ironic but not at all surprising.
I am from a little country where murders rarely happen but when they do happen the whole nation is shocked will all mourn the victim. When You live somewhere where murders rarely happen it will shock you the few times it does happen.

@@masterpieces2218 no, there is a difference between killing and torture. Jail's around the world are full of people on death row (for how many years?) Or life in prison.
