    Attention drivers. Split sleeper does not exclusively limit you to shipper receiver time. Any split beyond 2 hours will work for a split. Keep in mind, once you start moving, you're using partial jump miles.
    Split sleeper is a tremble lifestyle.

    The 2/8 or 3/7 splits berth only works if you don't need your full 11 hours driving time clock for your next upcoming load because you won't get your full 11 driving hours after taking either split berth the 2/8 or 3/7 keep that in mind. This is good in situations when you need to be on time for your delivery or pick up appointments because you may be late if you reset your 10 hours clock. Be safe

    So based on this rule the time on sleeper berth must be a minimum of 7hrs and a maximum of 7hrs:59mins to allow for a minimum of 2hrs to 3hrs while off duty.
    Also based on his example during those 3 hours at shipper there must be time spent “on duty” either loading or trailer pick up otherwise it could lead to a violation of HOS.

      Confusing because people do not know how to explain a situation without back stepping, hence they repeat what they say in a different format then go back to the first format then combine the two together and then restart their explanation. Now you have 3-4 situations mixed up in one. So, scenario 1 then during scenario 1 a second scenario is given then go back to scenario 1 in the middle of scenario 2 then give a 3rd scenario and mixing up 2 then 1 and go back to try and explain 3 while listener is still stuck on scenario 1.
      Now I can explain everything I just said 4 different ways, I just do not have enough time or crayons to explain.

      I don't see any benefits to split sleeper for what I do. Using the example in this vid, the driver can start again at 2am, have 9 hrs in which he can drive 6. I would sleep my full 10, start my day at 5am and I can roll a full 11 hrs. I will get further down the road than the driver who can only drive 6 more hours after 2am. Just because it works for one and someone else doesn't understand it, doesn't make them stupid. When you are a company slave, every minute counts I guess.

When you arrive at the shipper and you're there for 3 hours, Do you not have to show at least 15 minutes on duty on each end of that three hour break in order to be on duty to check in when you arrive, and then to Take care of paperwork before you leave?? I mean , I feel pretty sure you're not supposed to check in and then take care of paperwork , which are official duties, and say that you're off duty at that time.

      Exactly for the points you brought up, I don't buy a new truck, and I feel sorry for all that are suffering because of this nonsense. It's a corrupt regulation that was lobbied by mega carriers to put OOs out of business, and if this wasn't enough, now they're lobbying to increase the liability insurance from 1 Mill minum to 5 Mill, but wait, they are pushing for speed limiters, not to mention the push for EPA rules to be implemented in all 50 States. Sell your truck, and go drive like a slave for them, and our corrupt government is in the sack with the %1.

      If your focus is just on the MINIMUM required rest period you don't really comprehend the rationale for split-sleeper time. The focus is ALWAYS on 14hr clock and available drive time; the former is just what options a driver may choose to exercise in order to get some needed rest and fall within HOS regulations.
      ELD are set-up per company standards based on many factors unique to their operation. Some companies run 60hr/7day cycles where others are 70hrs/8-day and 30 minute 8hr break exempt. Passenger carrying vessels have a whole different set of criteria as well. Too many to list here, but the point is: although split-sleeper berth option is perfectly legal with respect to FMCSA HOS; your company may not allow such and ELD may not recognize it as being valid.

    • @danielww9022
      @danielww9022 9 месяцев назад

      Best practice is to arrive at the shipper/receiver, log 15 minutes to load or whatever, then immediately hit the sleeper. You may not get the minimum 2 hours in the sleeper before you roll, but, if you do, you've laid the groundwork for the split.
      Also, if you're close to completing one of the rest periods when the dock worker tells you that you can go, just kick back for a few more minutes until you've completed the required rest period. Don't waste 1¾ hours when you could just sit tight for another 15 minutes and collect that 2 hour break.

      I prefer to do it the way I have been doing it for 25 years. Most days on cross country long haul, I will start my day at midnight, do my pretrip, my 30 minute break and do 11 hrs driving. I will essentially shut down at 1145am. I will sleep my full 10 hrs and my 14 hrs has reset at 945pm. Do my pretrip and start rolling at 10pm, so in that 24 hr period I log 13 hrs driving, with my 30 minute break I will be shut down at 930am the next morning. Sleep 10 hrs and I will be ready to go at 730pm, effectively logging another 13 hrs driving in 24 hrs. I can absolutely see the benefits of split sleeper for dry van and reefer but flatbed and rgn doesn't put nearly the same loss of time on me that sitting at a dock does.

      Just be careful when you're ready to transition from split pairings to 10-hours consecutive off duty. YOU MUST COMPLETE A PAIRING or risk an hos violation. For example: You sat at a shipper for 6 hrs making an on-time delivery impossible. Your 14-hr clock is down to 7 and decreasing, taking your drive time with it. The delivery time gets pushed back giving you more time to complete the run. Your delivery is 9 hrs away and you have enough time to get there, IF you split berth. So, you depart. You arrive. And you realize you can actually get 10-hrs consecutive off duty before the appointment, BUT you don't change your status to SLEEPER BERTH.
      You take 10 consecutive hours off, your clock shows a full 8/11/14. But, when you drive, you'll be in violation of the 14-hour rule, because you didn't complete 7 hrs in the sleeper. Well, you did, but you didn't change your status to sleeper. So, your 14-hr clock actually expired the day before.
      Good news, though, if you're in Utah and this happens. A Utah trooper told me their chief instructed his troopers NOT to write an hos citation, as long as the log showed 10-consecutive hours off, of which it's presumed the sleeper requirement was likely met, despite the status not being changed to sleeper berth. I'd wager Cali State Popo would gleefully cite you.
      So, just remember, the SB pairing ISN'T complete with 10 consecutive off duty hours, if the required SB time isn't actually logged...

    I was not born with this huge switch on my chest ~ Up for On and Down for Off. Now our f-----g government wants me to wake up and fall asleep by their rules. It doesn't work.
    How many times has a trucker driven their 11 hours, parked and then watched video's for 3 hours before trying to fall asleep? Then they wake up 5 or 6 hours later, and they are expected to sit behind the wheel ~ waiting to do the Pre Check and then start driving again.
    God gave us all common sense. I know when I wake up that I am ready to make the day worthwhile, and go to work. I was not created to waste my time on this beautiful earth, so I will go to the bathroom when I need to ( and not when the government tells me I have to) and I will eat when I get hungry, and I will stop and park to sleep when I realize it's time to do so.
    Our government does not know how to efficiently manage time or money ~ but they sure know how to waste it like a PRO. I can't live like that.

    • @rpruneau68
      @rpruneau68 Год назад +1

      INCORRECT. As of the most recent HOS rules (12/10/22), a split sleeper birth pauses your 14hr clock so you have a chance to take a combination rest period of (8/2 or 7/3). The focus should be given to on-duty driving & on-duty time during each period in question. If you were on-duty driving for 6hrs and on-duty (not driving) for 1hr prior to 7hr sleeper berth time; you have up to 4 hrs drive time or 7hrs on-duty before you exhaust either the driving or 14hr clock. the next break must be a minimum of 3hrs to satisfy the (7/3) split or a full 10hr break.
      If you choose to exercise the split sleeper option then you will only get back what hours were exhausted prior to 7hr rest period (6 driving and 7 on-duty/driving added back to 14hr clock) and those that were not depleted prior to the 3hr rest period. The 14hr clock will ALWAYS apply so even if you only drove (2hrs and worked 4hrs) prior to 3hr rest period, you still only have 8hrs on-duty/drive remaining on 14hr clock, even though you show available drive time of 9hrs.
      The ONLY way to reset your 14/11 is to come off a full rest period of 10hrs or longer.
      You have to look at each period separately and understand that ALL the break does is allow the driver to rest while effectively pausing the 14hr clock. any consecutive periods may not violate the driving or 14hr rule and are to be separated by either (7/3, 8/2 or 10) hr breaks.

      You do get a new 14 and 11 hr clock but the split shifts your starting time to the end of the first qualifying break. That’s the beginning of your calculation point and then you exclude the subsequent qualifying break from your calculation. So in that example in the video, the window starts at the end of the first qualifying break at 2pm. Then he eats up 5 hours of his 11 and 14 hr clocks by driving until 7. Then we exclude the 7 hr sleeper break from our calculation, meaning he has 9 hrs left on the 14 hour window and 6 hours left on the 11 hr clock.

      That's usually what it's for at least in my situations. Running reefer or otherwise hauling food, it's extremely common to find yourself going to grocery or food service distro warehouses that only unload after midnight and usually have appointments scheduled in the very early morning hours. You hook a trailer 7 hours away from delivery at noon but your appointment isn't until 4am. You're left with the choice of either taking a full 10 at the truckstop down the street and rolling in late and risking either a huge late fee from the lumper or needing to reschedule, or split your break so that you'll have 7 or 8 hours in the sleeper at the truck stop and the remaining 3 or 2 at the shipper.

    People must have a terrible dispatch to have to use the split sleeper berth because it is illogical to dispatch your trucks in a way that they cannot utilize a 14 hr clock properly of a driver , the truck actually makes a lot less money for the company, when one of their trucks has to spend 18-hours a day or even twenty-hour a day to drive the same 11 hours, that it should do in a 14-hour day?😅😅😅 This guy is wrong the split sleeper does not reset your 11 or 14 hr clock it only pauses it and extends it out. And cost you more time then running miles and loads, if a dispatcher does not know how to keep the wheels turning and getting a consistent break for the driver of 10 hours in a 24-hour period he or she does not know what they're doing. I've been driving for 17 years and I have never had to use the split. Because my dispatcher knows how to book loads if you run consistently the same way sometimes you wind up with lazy drivers that Burns up their drive hours or don't drive all their 11 when they could , their doing stupid stuff instead of staying in the dang seat driving, ..that is why my dispatcher keeps me moving with a very little to minimal sitting in a 14-hour day so I can stay moving and making them money , because he knows how I run and I'm constantly utilizing my clock keeping the tires moving. where he can clearly predict each load he puts me on when it'll be done and when he'll put me on another one way ahead of time.....I have always got my miles done and always drive at the least 10.45 in a 14-hour day. and do a 10-hour break , it takes work and planning on my end as well.. And I have always had all my miles and 70 hours used up going into the 6th day of a week. Avg around 50 to 55 hrs a week on my drive line... Before always only doing a 34 consistently some a dispatcher always has me dispatched before I ever hit the truck again because he knows by hour 35 I want to be moving.
