15 minute video. 10 hours to draw logbook on whiteboard. Thanks for the video. That kind of reaffirms for me that this is mostly good for shortening up the bunk time to get just a couple hours back to make a drop. It doesn't really work for deadheading a long way home after a drop because you can't get enough time back to go very far. Seems like this might be useful for reefer drivers that get stuck at shippers for long periods at weird hours. Gives them just enough time to get back to a truck stop in the morning to THEN do a 10 hour break.
Question when splitting and going home, let's say I need the longer break of 8hrs sleeper to finish my 10 hr but I do not want to sit there waiting for clock to do the 8hr so that I can then put my self in off duty 34hr reset. Instead of going 8hr long sleeper break can i just go straight to off duty 34hr reset and go home.
@@DIYSEMI sorry this whole time when i said go home i meant using my personal vehicle, if it makes a difference. would you say just go on sleeper but go home with personal vehicle then count 34hr reset with a combination of those 8hrs in sleeper and 26hr in off duty, obviously i would make it show like that after i fix the log once I come back from 34hr reset. Would you say that is legal.
I have heard this explained as the first 2 hr break "pauses" the clock. Not sure if that is true. Ex. in your first day above you started at 3:00 so 14 hr clock is up at 17:00 yet you drove until 17:30. Is that a violation or can you go past the 14 clock because it has now extended to 19:00?
I did not do a 2 or 3 hr short break the previous day but can I just sleep 8 hr and start driving and when I get to destination do 2 hr to complete 10hr sleeper? Or just go by what E.L.D says time available.
Just to muddy the water some more- it is not 7/3 or 8/2, it is between 7 and 8 SB, and between 2 and 3 OFF, but the combination must total a minimum of 10 hours.
Great video! Really helped. Question? Can I do SB 7/3 or 8/2 then switch to a 3/7 or 2/8 as long as I’m within my 14 hours. On roll over? Just trying to get every detail down. Thanks. I’m ELD rookie!
@@DIYSEMII have 4 hours of my 14 left. It’s 1:30 pm and my appt is 7pm. If I go off duty until 6:30 to drive to my appt all I have to do is at least 8hrs in sleeper starting that night?

According to the DOT and FMSCA, there is no rule or regulation regarding a "Post-Trip." Therefore you do not have to "log" such an event. The only regulation regarding an after trip inspection is if you're aware that a default or a repair exists, you must fill out a DMVIR (Driver Motor Vehicle Inspection Report). End of day inspection is always a good habit to form, however, there is absolutely no need to log it. Also, another myth associated with "Pre-Trip" is the time allotted. There is no FMCSA rule requiring a "15-minute" pre-trip. Paper logs demanded at least 15 minutes because the paper logs only, by default, allowed 15-minute incriminates. The new EDL's go down to the minute. A seasoned driver can execute a comprehensive pre-trip in 7-10 minutes. Every minute saved is an opportunity to make more money. Thanks for the helpful information! 👍
10 4 one more question if u end up at home and ur 8 is next u have to take it in Sleeper but if u end on ur 2 next the 2 can be off duty but then does the other 8 have to be Sleeper or can it be off duty to to get you out of the split and back to normal
Adam you know 90% of drivers are to stupid to figure this out. I've ran split logs since the 80s. Most guys or gals if the computer Doesn't figure things out for them their lost.

Truly can't believe how many drivers can't even do a paper log, let alone know how to split log.
I did split sleeper and recap hours on my paper logs. Nobody could figure it out so I never got a violation lmao.
Take it easy Mr perfect. Some people are just starting out. Others are just coming back from before these rules were even made.
Split sleeper has saved me so many times on multi drops. Good explanation, I know how to do it but can't for the life of me explain it.
I have jj keller which is like using DOS before computers had windows. That is a whole other issue

Can't even guess how much time this took you to put together. Great video. Split logging is a necessity for me.
Very good video
Excellent explanation! Great job my man. I get intimidated sometimes to split log. Thanks a bunch.
Great video Adam.
I loved this video I've been waiting for someone to do it, thank you.
Amen brotha! Always enjoy watching your videos. Split logging a must do for many. Great job.
I just knew what the magic box on the dash tells me to do.

Great video man.
Hi great video as always thank you. Have question ,those split hours
Really good video. always good to know ahead of time how many hours you’ll be getting back

Keeping it simple
Thanks!!!
Dude thx u so much. My ELd doesn't to the sleeper B automatically for me. I keep going into violation
I know I'll have to watch this multiple times
Can you split on short haul exemption?
Sure

Yes

Sorry sent by accident. Those split hours 7/3 8/2 can be in between? Realistic can’t make exactly 7/3 or 8/2
Can be in between. But not less than 7 or 2

None. You used them all up. Need a 10 hr break
I was thinking of a different kind of split logging. You know when you're mid dump and it gets interrupted.

DIY could you do 15 minutes pre trip legally?
There is no set amount of time. If u can do it faster that is legal
You are always helpful. Thank you for helping me by answering my questions.keep up the good work. God bless you.
The way I understand it the née rule states Any off duty or sleeper longer than 2 hours doesn’t apply towards your 14
The old days of splitting was a lot better this crap is stupid how they decided on this type of split
