- The 34 hour rule is a pain and is one of those things that you can avoid if you know how. Today I will tell you how you can go on driving without having to take any resets along the way.
My email: talkabouttrucking@gmail.com.
Dispatch Course: miranda-c-s-school.teachable....
Every time my dispatch asks me where would you like to go, My answer always very simple LAS VEGAS! I can even do 3-4 restarts until I ran out of money 🎉
Personally I have been driving for many years and the 34 hour reset is my goal as soon as get in the truck. Why you my ask ? Is that the hours are there to drive each day not save them to work every day. Why not get out of your truck get a room and relax , so you will fresh and relaxed to start the next cycle?
This video wasn’t for you then , bob … some of us want to drive and make a good check , especially if it’s OTR …
What if I want to be home? You think I wanna spend 34 hours in a truck stop when I’m like 10 hours from home? 😂
Logging is a skill. The current laws made it more challenging for me to be creative with how I use my 14, 11 & 70 hour work week.
Lucky for me, I enjoyed learning how to log back in the 80's
Paper logs gave me the flexibility but computers helped me be more creative.
The splitting of drive hours, sleeper berth hours, non driving hours & off duty hours. to stop the 14 hour clock I am still learning to master.
If I use 70 hours up in 8 days.
I deserve a 34 reset. Because for me, 70 hours is more like 100.
I do what it takes to get the job done in a safe and timely manner.
Dilly dallies, I understand them working the ELD's to only work their 8.75 hours or less, everyday and find that parking space at the truck stop.
I avoid snowstorms, rush hour traffic and the long lines at the pumps.
Trip planning is skill and I need to be willing to change the plan according to the weather. That means I drive through the night.
Its not the number of hours I use up in the 8 days. Its how I use them.
@@jimromanowski6966 I read your post, but actually not for me since nights are made to sleep for me; Good luck.
Trucking is opportunity; knowing this is a + for those who hassle the money and want to cook some DOT tickets 😂
The 34 reset is the normal 10 hr break plus 24 more hours. So it is only 1 day off. I get more miles if I drive 10-11 a day. 6 days then 1 off and the 8th I have all my hours back. That gives me 70+ in 8 days with a day off...
You are correct.
Well said ❤
Yes! New to the industry and this was very helpful! Thank you 😊
I've been trucking for 18 years and this is the best I've heard it explained! Great job! I'm gonna sub.
My Gosh I’m just in shock how you explain so well, thank you for this video 🎉❤❤
Beautiful, you explained this really well. Thank you!
I had no idea before about all of that since I watched your video I feel like I can be a trainer ! Thank you so much
Best illustration so far...the amount of guys showing u their and trying to explain it is staggering..this chart is so easy even a trucker can understand it 😊
I wanted to add to my comment. I just finished 2 weeks out and thanks to this video, time management was great!!! It worked like a champ and, I understood everything that was going on!!! Thank you SO much!!!
i believe personal conveyance and yard move may also play a part in avoiding a reset an adding much more time.
thanks for this info , very informative.
OMG! Excellent information for a guy who is just starting his trucking career. Thanks. I just subscribed.
Thank you so much. This helped me out a lot. I like 34 hour resets but sometimes it's unfortunate and messes up the financial part of the business not being able to move the truck. I appreciate your video. Thanks again 👍🏽🙏🏽
Of all the videos, this one really explained what I needed to know
You are one of the smartest top notch in all you do.Keep it up
Thank you I’m in trucking school and this is very helpful 😊
Thank you! Ive had my cdl 2 years and never truely understood recaps.
I woked for a mega carrier and the recaps and calculations were simply calculated & shown on the eld. So i never needed to understamd how they were calculated. Now teaming with my husband with a smaller company understandinh is needed ( i no longer have the babysitter doing it for me.)
This made it simple for me.
Believe me you don’t know how much your video have saved me , keep on the good work ❤
Thank you so much. New to the industry. This video helps alot
A lot of presumptions but works when it works. Picking up 8 hours won't help much if you need a full 14 hour day.
Yep! Sometimes you will need that time structure to get back home. Love it.
So far this the best video of recap vs reset….👍
Very well explained. Thanks so much
Well explained, I'd love to watch more HOS related content in the future. P.S. waiting for another Airtable video.
Я не могу оторваться от вас в каждом видео - вы потрясающая!
I’m subbing! Your amazing for the well explained video. Thank youuuu
So at the end of a day, we don't make more money driving with no reset, because we obviously drive less every day. It's all about avoiding reset and not being stuck for 34 hours somewhere :)
A clear explanation of stuff i already knew, but its good to see it laid-out. You could've cut the early part tho about the 4 different types
Thank you for this. I run bees coast to coast, I'm independent. This helps not having to stop for those Ag loads and not having time to sit for 34. Thanks again.
You sit 15 hours each day to avoid taking a day off? Really???
Thank you so much it was very well explained
Last company I worked for ran recaps. Problem is, they didn’t exactly dispatch that way lol.
Safety explained 2 things that made it simple. Don’t work more ( on duty & driving) than 8-9 hours per day. That way you’ll always have hours available.
Also wait until hour 6 to take a 30 minute break. ( this was before they changed it to 30 minutes on duty to meet the break requirement )
The hardest thing for me is trying to figure out how much time I get back after midnight. When my 70 is running low. Many times I got up to discover only a few hours available for the day…. Bummer !!
Great explanation! Thanks!
I just learn something new this elog is new to me since I’ve using paper logs all this time
The DOT clock is genuine government insanity. But, you can play the game and work around it
You smart realy good thing to know but this work more efficiently for local drivers or drivers it doesn't matter how you sliceed it end up taking 34 reset thanks for the knowledge you share
Thank you so much! Very helpful video
Recap is great, when you need it. The rule was to ensure the driver got a break from driving. The 34 hr restart, is a good tool, and it's only a day and a half. A company drivers friend.
This is great and amazing!! 🎉🎉
Omg … I learned something new .. gracias/thank u for sharing knowledge ..
Appreciate the video, but definitely a recruiter pov. If you have 10 left, you actually have 8 1/2 in order to find parking for the night. Also you will make close to 300 more hours per year if you do a reset after 70. Recap is not as beneficial as resetting. Although companies will try to get you to keep running.
YEP the key point of MAKING MONEY only while driving is how the industry screws the driver. PAY ME FOR THE HOURS I WORK...NOT JUST DRIVING!!!
@@biggfoot52 Yeah hell no on that one. If OTR was hourly that would be one shit ass job. This new upcoming mindset of the youth is just so fcked up lol
Very helpful, thanks a bunch!!
Reset vs Recaps is really a lifestyle choice. You’re technically working the same amount of hours each week no matter which one you choose.
Personally, I prefer working longer days and doing all of my sitting at once (during the 34). After working 11 to 14 hour days (and only stopping 10 hours at night) for 5-6 days, I’m ready for a break! During that break, I will use personal conveyance to go shopping and do stuff! Plus, my company pays me $100 for doing a reset on the road and a night in hotel. So, I actually make more money doing resets!
What company? It sounds interesting.
Seriously what company!? I get deductions for stopping and doing anything
Thanks for your help gorgeous ❤
thank you so much for this video
Thank you so much this helped alot
Great and informative video Miranda. But you forgot to say " Let's Go " and swing your fist in the beginning. That's my favorite part. Have a good day.
LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
In "Emergency", I pull the plug on the ELD, and convert to paperlogs. What can I do? Gotta move, and ELD is "broken". There is also some ELDs that don't react to the movement of the truck. How shady, but comes in real handy sometimes.
So beautiful, I’m watching all of your videos
We’ll explain thank you so much
love this
Wow, good stuff!
Very good video
I may be completely wrong, but I can run 84 hrs per week WITH a 34hr break. I can not do it your way. 70 ÷ 8 = 8.75 hrs per day continuous with no 34 hr break. I can run days 1-5 at 14hrs/day and have 70 hrs total. Take a 34 Fri night thru Sun morning and hit another 14 on Sun. Run Mon thru Thurs 14 again and 34 break on Fri. Start truck again on Sat for and 5 day 70.
Thanks!
You should also make video for we that do shot distance like 70 km 100 km or 150 km for distributions how do we uses our hours???
⏰Awesome job..!🎉🙏🏻👍🏽
I’m still new and make mistakes. I would put myself on “off duty” even tho I should be on “on duty” because I’m fueling or switching trailers
My Trainer told me to go OFF-DUTY whenever you are doing a live load or live unload, and if you’re stuck in traffic to go OFF-DUTY as well.
On paper this works, but not on the truck, 24 year driving and I didn’t hear anyone would use this method ever who’s willing to drive months nonstop, Definitely no company drivers and OP will take rest also !!!
I use it just to get home and do a 34hr reset since there will be days when the 8th day falls off and recovered hours are small amount like 3hrs to 6hrs you can't get far with that on top of that you will be missing appointments.
Can I take more than 30 minutes DOT break..Thanks for the teachings
Thanks
Im wondering what if
Just imagine if your HOS time expired but you at the road and you need extra time to finf the parking . Will it be considering as violation?
I'm looking for info on how I'm supposed to be handled.
My work agreement is to get 34 hours home. I'm a co driver and I'm on my 10 hour break right now while my Co Driver is getting us to PA from Wisconsin. We're getting dragged down in the snow right now.
I want to know if we're going to get stuck in the truck on our way back with our load and lose our 34 hour reset because of weather delaying our arrival. Losing our time home like agreed. Our truck is also scheduled for its regular maintenance this weekend at our operating center.
So how would a team run?
Its all interesting ,but how thing going in practics ?
I think she said if u stuck on a place where there is nothing to do u can used the hrs like she said n move from that place , make sense 😎
I've never had good outcomes doing it this way. One main reason is that you never know what the shipper will do. Now you're stuck.
Great explanation, quick question will an ELD automatically do this for you ? Or this is strictly for paper logs?
It will do it for you.
On this video she did not mention split time. After this Friday if I pass my training exam I will be signed off and I'll get my new company truck so I can start OTR. The clock is confusing and I might need your office number.
If you do, leave a comment on one my videos so it can be private.
My thing is this if I do split time in one day and my clock stops thoes not mean in anyway that my sleeping time will cut off at 8 hours.
I will need a defenetly a 10 hour restart.
Hi,
I know how to use the split sleeper berth 2-8, but can it be done the other way around after running out of HOS?
Say that I already drove 11 hrs and usually for me to get another 11 hrs of dive time, I need to be off 10 hrs, but if I only get into sleeper berth for 8 hrs, will I get any driving hours back? And after driving, let's say 4 hrs, I get into the sleeper berth for 2 hrs. Does that work?
Thank you
If you average 9 Hrs 45 mins Daily you’ll never have to do a reset, Now if you drive more than that just make sure the next day you drive less the amount you overdrove on the prior day, say if you had to drive 10.5 Hours you would just drive 9 Hours the following day. If you drove a full 11 than just 8.5 the next day. But 9 Hours and 45 Mins averaged daily would allow you to continue to ride off strong recaps of at least 8 Hrs or More Daily.
When you need the job done or the right info explained , YOU NEED A WOMAN TO DO IT!!! I watched a couple of videos done by drivers and they were horrible. Thanks Sweetheart!!! your the best!
Ok as long as you meet 70 hrs in 8 days driving different hrs each day to eventually add to 70 all you have to do is complete the cycle repeatedly
Hi Ms. Quick question to save my next week. If at my day 8 I still having 5 hrs left to work, I don't have to reset on day 9? The hrs worked on day 1 will be added to the 5 hrs remaining and available at day 9?
does this work for owner operators?
those appointments can be a problem when doing recaps.
Miranda❤️❤️
working off Recaps
How do you know what's your day 1 or day 8?
What if I start the logs and I am not having to drive enough hours to complete the 70hrs in 8 days? Do I reset even if I didn’t complete the 70hrs but I am already finishing the 8th day? I am just a new to box truck and sometimes I’ll be driving over 150miles. I’ll start this coming Monday. In the Motive software the cycle is 70hrs for 8 days. I am trying to lean the most I can.
Hate to spoil your info but, I work as a driver in refineries and we sometimes do 12 hour shifts (in plant-driving on yard move or on duty) for 2 weeks straight. In 6 days thats 6X12=72 hours I've worked. Now I know this is the exception but hear me out. After the 2 weeks has ended, obviously I have to take a 34 to restart my hours. Any other drivers have that kind of experience?
You explained well but you can do it that way in a perfect world . But be out there and drive with your calculation ? Good luck . . You have to put the road condition construction and getting stuck in traffic . You can never reach your destination. Responsible and professional drivers must have more flexible way to drive and be productive . Even tho the government put this restriction for safety it’s ironic that it could be more stressful for many drivers to meet the demand from shippers and receivers and the brokers and dispatch. Those 34 hours could reduce fatigue however they can be stressful with a load in my truck and they are not in destination place due to luck of hours .
I was told that you actually can’t let your clock run all the way down to 0 because it will start the 34 hr period.
I'm a new Werner truck driver. I believe I made a mistake and called the logs department to make sure I can do this, and they told me I cannot move the truck until the 34 hours is over, even though according to the log, the 9th day back would give me 6 hours, which is just enough to get me home to be with my kids. Is this a legal loophole that they don't want me to know about?
I’m probably just an idiot and can’t comprehend. But please help… I don’t understand how if I have already gone home or taken a 34 hour how am I supposed to get hours back if I never had any hours in the first place from the day I would get hours back from. If I am forced to take a restart today (let’s say on the 1st of the month) how would I skip a 34 hour restart next week or the week after, since I am out of hours now and I'm forced to restart the same thing is going to happen next week and the week after. 🤦♀️ wouldn't that mean I would have to have hours from that past day to keep going? And if so how do you get past hours you never had in the first place? I watched the video and you explain it very well….it's just that in practice when attempting to follow this scheduled it didn't work for me because of that 0 hours from my last 34.
So do you have to use up your entire 70hrs before the 8th day in order for this to work? And do you have to work 8 days (and are you trying to expire your drive time or clock or both) - ie: if your at max come day 5 or even day 6; do the hours start coming back on the 7th or 8th day or only on the 9th day? Do you need to have hrs to work on the 8th day, otherwise you have to do the 34hr reset?
Everything you just asked was answered with this video 🤦🏽♂️
12th day without a 34 reset... my clock does stay under 20hours but I been getting 8 hours back each night but in 5 more days I'll only get 4 hours back.... so in 18 days I'll probably take a reset.
How am I doing this? Well I go off duty while they unload me. But I can't be in the truck, so I go get lunch or go shopping for a hour 2 times a day.... so I only go on duty for pre trip and fueling. I was going onduty unloading but I only could work 5 days... so if im eating lunch across the street I don't have to be on duty. So I'm on day 12 with 15hours on 70 and getting 8 hours back for about 4 more days then getting 4-5 hours back
Basically she explained how you can run continuously by using the recap method.
sweet
What's the purpose for the 34 hour reset? This doesn't sound correct
Do the ELDs now days keep track of the 34hr reset and 70/8 for the driver or does the driver need to do that manually?
The eld does it for you.
can you correct me that day 0 it 70 and day 7 it could be a 8 day period ? . isn't it. Всегда думал что надо учитывать день 0 когда у тебя есть 70 часов а день 1 это уже не 70 а в данном случае 70 - 10 =60 и это как бы день 2 чет я потерялся
Working 70 hrs with a 34 is the same as 70 without. You don’t make any more by avoiding a 34
I'm a logger not a trucker, but why not just drive 2hrs 15 min break x 3 = 6 hrs 45min x 8 days= 54 hrs drive time leaving 16 hrs non-drive work time?
I'm sure she's explaining this perfectly, but my brains are scrambled now
A six hour work day? LOL!!!😂 I rarely get a day shorter than 12 hours.
Help ,I'm stuck on the road doing a reset.
Thank you for explaining but I didn’t get back my recap hours. I Drive @8 hours on day 1.
Did you have a restart in the middle? The hours wont come back if you had a restart- they start coming back after it
You can use personal conveyance during 34 correct or ?
Yes, but be careful with PC, carriers are getting out of service orders for that left and right
