Los Angeles, California - On May 17, 2022, around 1:15 p.m., Operation West Bureau (OWB), Surveillance Task Force personnel, were conducting a surveillance operation on a named Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) suspect, who was also wanted on a Fugitive Warrant with the United States Marshals. OWB task force personnel directed an Olympic Division patrol unit to attempt a traffic stop in the area of Alvarado Avenue and Temple Street. The suspect failed to stop his vehicle and shortly after, collided with an unrelated vehicle resulting in his vehicle being disabled. The suspect exited his vehicle armed with a firearm and carjacked a nearby vehicle. The suspect fled from the officers in the stolen vehicle when he collided with another vehicle near the intersection of 3rd St and Union Avenue.
The suspect exited the stolen vehicle, still armed with a firearm in his hand resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. The suspect fled on foot into a multi-complex gated property and an additional OIS occurred. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect was not struck by gunfire. The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Jaime Vendivel, a resident of Los Angeles. Vendivel was transported to a local hospital for complained of injury to his upper torso area resulting from the traffic collision. Vendivel’s loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered at scene and will be booked as evidence. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

That partner calling out good driving is the real champ
What I'd like to know is, why isn't the passenger doing the radio calls during the pursuit? It makes far more sense to me to let the driver just focus on driving and have the partner do radio calls.
@@Alcsaar0 Experience and adrenaline I guess... if the driver is the senior officer they are just going to automatically do it.
@@Alcsaar0 Because the helicopter was calling the pursuit for most of it...? Not the ground units responsibility once the helicopter gets there.
The partner was scared to death and was saying "good driving" not as a compliment, but as a reminder to not kill the both of them.

The carelessness and recklessness of a criminal never ceases to amaze.
I'm disappointed that thug was not put out of service.
@@Asidebar We get it, you're a racist
This guy's odd behavior getting out of the car leads me to believe he was delirious. Usually, criminals in this scenario either surrender, flee, or open fire. This guy hung by his open door, staring at the half dozen guns pointed at him, then ran away with his hands raised WHILE holding a pistol.
I think he might've on some sort of substance. I'm not trying to suggest that he was innocent, he wasn't dangerous, or the police's actions were unjustified. I just found his behavior very strange.

One thing that goes totally unnoticed is the one officer who checks the car after all his comrades already are chasing the criminal by foot. Outstanding move!
I noticed it.
As did I. Just wondering if some stayed behind to watch over the unsecured vehicles. Lots of stuff in them to include possible weapons.
And not a single person checked the car behind the car they opened fire at. Stellar!
Yet no one checked on the people on the other car!
it was 2 Officers that checked

And the one who finally stopped him has outstanding marksmanship... just one well aimed shot, and he was incapacitated. And the way he covered his partner who made the arrest, informing him of any movement so he could focus solely on the felon, was also top notch.

@@deepdiver51 maybe in the vest so since there was no wound it legally doesnt count, idk. he definitely bends over and falls
No, he doesn't. Suspect was not struck by gunfire, according to the report. Also, that officer had poor and improper grip technique, among other things. Never grip a firearm that way, with thumbs crossed over the backstrap. Great way to get "bit" by the slide, too, on any weapon that doesn't have a deep beavertail. If anything, it was outstandingly BAD. Seeing as how we all know there are so many "armchair experts" in YT comments, I'll just say this: Don't take my word for it, do your homework. Plenty of experts with easily verifiable qualifications will tell you the same thing. Many of them have videos on YT, as well. That being said, I actually *DO* know what I'm talking about.
Extremely impressed with the amount of clear view cameras on this incident. Great work!
Almost seemed like a re-creation from a TV show - security camera footage was 10x better than the vehicle mounted camera

I hadnt thought about CPR training for years but I did learn in BoyScouts and also working on cruise ships, but at the moment it mattered, I didnt get scared, I didnt get nervous, I acted and did everything right.

These criminals know they are all but guaranteed to be ok and that they will either die or get out of jail in a week so what do they care, there are virtually no consequences that they have to live with either way.
Judging by his little jitterbug dance while standing in the doorway of his car, he was geeked out on meth so not exactly making rational decisions. Also, he is almost certainly a 3rd strike felon, so for him getting caught can easily mean a 25 year to life sentence. And CA prisons are no joke. You really have to wonder what is going through bystanders minds in events like this. There were people in that van and car behind the van trying to come down the street when they were faced with a wall of police shooting at a criminal. Yep, rewatched it, the last shot missed like the rest. I don't really know how they missed him from about 12m after he exited the car with gun in hand. They were all set up in a decent firing line...
He missed, then if he would have fired again he would have caused a jam due to his thumb placement. Not trying to be that guy cause I know hindsight is 20/20 but how was he not struck once? Like they were firing blanks!
He’s holding his gun with his thumb behind the slide. This is the worst training I have ever seen.
Even my 10 year old daughter knows how to hold a pistol. He’s going to run the slide into his thumb causing injury and malfunctions with every shot. He might as well throw the gun at him.
People: He didn't point it at him and he didn't come after them. Why'd they shoot him?
Me: Because he was running towards civilians after just having car jacked someone. who's to say he wouldn't do it again and put not only the lives of the drivers in danger but more civilians on the road

imagine she steps out of the vehicle and we got a hostage situation then
@Frankie Bleddyn def not wedged just clueless
Fight or fight isn't broken, you don't know if she had her kids in the vehicle with her or not. At that point it becomes momma bear mode and if that guy would have tried to get in her vehicle I can promise you she would have fought if there were a child in there. Also, I don't think she could move, it did look like she tried, so maybe her wheels were at a weird angle or something. It was very clear she wasn't ignoring any of it, especially when she saw the officers begin shooting, she ducked down. There's also so many other factors you need to put into it before judging her, the biggest being, has she been through this before and was there maybe a flash back of what happened and she froze. Maybe she did try moving out of the way another time and hit someone and didn't want to do that again. This is why we really shouldn't be calling someone out for doing what they felt was right in the moment they were in, not you.
@Frankie Bleddyn the driver is not wedged and could of reversed
The Kiwi bird in Australia lived unmolested for generations. When colonists came with dogs, cats ect. the Kiwi would react by freezing. It never had any natural enemies and it couldn't defend itself, so it just froze, not knowing any better.
In my opinion, even though humans are smarter, the fight or flight instinct is still as warped in us as it is in animals that never had any natural enemies.
I can't imagine people freezing in fear back when mamooths and wolves were genuine threats.
