Officers can learn something by watching this. Take control of the scene. The suspect is disturbed and he's hearing 4 or 5 different cops yelling different things at him. In this situation he needs to hear one very clear articulate voice making contact with him. Only if you make that connection verbally and mentally will you get him to make sense of the situation. When you have 3 seen officers with non-lethal on a person and have one that starts using lethal before the non lethal is even applicate there is a serious problem in their training program in that department. No officer took control of the situation which was evident by all talking over each other and giving multiple commands that conflicted. The biggest problem here is how none of the officers ordered to have the very road they're aiming down closed off. That whole road and all roads leading to it needed to be closed to traffic. That in turn would: 1) Reduce the liability of striking a civilian in the backdrop 2) Clear the air so that all commands are to the suspect and no commands are being issued to the bystanders, thus eliminating mixed confusing commands the suspect hears. 3) Allow the police to focus solely on the suspect and not have to split their attention between what he's doing and what the people behind him are doing. I get it's stressful, but closing off roads is basic routine that wasn't initiated.
What if he still charged at the officers? Even after getting hit by bean bags? It's a time window of 2-3 seconds. Theres no time for a second chance. He on the other hand, got enough chances over several minutes. Don't be stupid. Otherwise cops will die in such situations.

Yeah. That cop was only there to shoot someone. He wasn't trying to de-escalate the situation at all.
@SuperSteelers US cops sure love their guns.. for them it's the only logical solution to almost everything.
A bunch of cops yelling different things is confusing for someone who probably is already having some sort of mental health crisis. It's really a training issue.

@@austincapps4381 way to overreact. Something as simple as one cop giving commands would have sufficed, it's commonly known that multiple people shouting at you will be confusing. No need to pull the whole "derp let's get social workers to kiss him on the lips and coddle him🤪"
@@Gameprojordan Except after the first 5 minutes it was just one person talking to him 🥴🥴 Let’s use that noodle of ours buddy.
I wouldn’t call the police on anyone unless I’m sure someone is going to kill someone because cops often just make a situation worse and end up shooting someone.
Dude in the truck willingly parked right in the crossfire. Holysht
I love this channel. Both shows situations with good cop behavior, and bad cop behavior, without all the toxic racial narratives.

The problem here is *CHAOS!!!*
*ONE OFFICER NEEDS TO BE IN CONTROL... **_JUST ONE!_*
...and _all_ of the other officers need to keep quiet and wait for the commanding officer to give orders.
*And one more thing...* in the future, some officers need to *shut down ALL traffic* taking place behind the perp!
This clip should be used for training purposes in the academy. How can you de-escalate a situation with a person suffering a mental crisis, on drugs, & a language barrier, if you have every cop screaming at you? Then use lethal and non-lethal AT THE SAME TIME. For public safety, they should have had a unit block the intersection from oncoming traffic. I back the blue but this was not a good situation. It's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. Tuff job/much respect.💙🖤
Shouldn't he know English if he's in America?
You should drive your BarcaLounger over to the nearest major city and offer your help.
@@MuffinRaider I don't see you volunteering to sign up. Funny how it's always the loudest ones who are the least likely to do anything about it.
By the way.....did it ever occur to you that, in the entire history of the LAPD, and indeed of LE overall, there was most likely MANY people who joined law enforcement with your kind of idiotic mentality, who thought that they could be a Segway Rambo Hero and never use a gun? Where are they? Take a wild guess.......
i agree
@@MuffinRaider you should join up and show them how to do it.
legend has it that cop is still trying to put on those gloves
These officers need more training and also hope the family will sue the jerk who shot and the department.
I thought the female officer did a great job talking to him and trying to de-escalate the situation. What a shame it ended like that.
Well, slower tranquil communication might be preferable
@@janpierzchala2004you’re welcomed to rewatch the incident at a lower speed. These are not robot cops, they’re human beings who did just about everything possible to de escalate the situation.
9:20 - 9:23 the female officer on right side of screen shot first with lethal!
@@alvaroq2024 I am a great supporter of police action and even here acknowledge that he made the fatal move towards. But given that the guy has only a knife not a gun and didn't hurt anybody yet on the scene I am surprised 3 officers shout all the way through the situation
@@alvaroq2024you're mistaken🤔. Her rifle has a green handle/arming stuff, which means she was armed with non lethal beanbag that she shot, but the other who fired lethal were indeed ill trained or trigger happy.😤
What was the point of less lethal??? The cop kept everyone from using less lethal until he stepped forward and they shot him dead! Incompetent police work at its finest.
I think he thought that maybe he could talk it out and taking any physical approach would escalate the situation ending in a deadly situation, I think the timing was the issue here as soon as he got back up from his knees they should have tried the bean bags.
This was actually done really well. Attempt to de escalate the situation and having non lethal. What temple forget is that some with a knife can cause a lot of harm and even penitrate a bullet proof vest. Sadly once the man started to approach the officers it became an immediate threat.
Actually. The threat was established with the 911 call and drugs being involved. Police know never to trust a person on dope. A really good video (if you have a vpn) is of the guy on PCP that took 7 shotgun blasts at close range. 1-6 kept getting up. 7 not so much. Police are shown this video.
@@munoz_element9344 what good is four people with less lethal and one with lethal if they all shoot? The man is now dead and had they used the less lethal and not continued to say hold on they could have taser him he would have fell and they could have cuffed him. Instead they stood there with less lethal and shot him dead instead
@@bloodbankjiujitsu1599 I think that’s what he was doing but the ones with lethal shot him dead anyway they never tried the less lethal they had out
I really hate when several cops are yelling at once. It's chaotic and it doesn't help the suspect at all. It just escalates the whole situation.
My guy was having one hell of a time getting them gloves on.
Complete lack of control of the scene. Seemed like the female officer with the beanbag was getting through to him but everyone else was screaming. Should have deployed the beanbag as soon as he stood back up to see if it would shock him into lucidity. Pretty awful result. Hate seeing someone get killed when theyre having a mental crisis.
WTF are you talking about? This was suicide by cops and nothing else. This guy knew exactly what's about to happen! He had >40 chances over several minutes. It's sad, but cops have to do this. Otherwise they will be stabbed or worse. Stop protecting the offender!
@@PySnek what's going on with you
Cops would have never been involved if the dude didn't use drugs. Only person at fault was the individual on dope.
"Mental crisis", today's excuse for criminals to do what they please.

Seriously not impressed with the communication skills on display here, both towards the suspect and among the officers
You ain't kidding.
exactly...this one sucks..and LAPD is my county...
Why are they saying “back up”? Like his already far enough.
WAY too many people giving commands.
99.9999% of the time I agree with what the officers do and have done. This time however is not the case. When you have 3 seen officers with non-lethal on a person and have one that starts using lethal before the non lethal is even applicate there is a serious problem in their training program in that department. No officer took control of the situation which was evident by all talking over each other and giving multiple commands that conflicted. I don’t mean to politicize this but this is exactly what happens when departments are defunded and officers are I’ll trained due to lack of finances.
Yeah this was a sh!t show. If they guy really wanted to kill himself he would have. If the guy really wanted to attack them he would have. I think it is a pretty safe guess that this guy could have been talked down under the proper circumstances. The fact that the officer who he approached with the knife didn't shoot and even said "NO!", yet a different officer on the other side of a car fired says a lot about this situation. I think it was still a legally justified shoot, but that doesn't always make it a good shoot. They didn't even try to beanbag him. Hell, I would have at least tried taking a shot with the beanbag gun at his hand when he was standing still like that. They had a lot of opportunities to do better here and they completely f*cked up at every single point. Absolute sh!t show.
This is exactly what these socialist evil idiots want. They are NOT dumb. EVERYTHING they do and push for has a very predictable outcome. They plan to use crime to persuade the lawful and expand Gov all the way into full blown socialism. They are SICK Marxist who don't deserve to breath freedom filled fresh American air. They belong in China. It's time to stop assuming these Marxist have ANY good intentions and treat them like the scum of the earth they are. They want America to fall. They tell everyone all the time, too many democrat voters just assume they're nice politicians who give out free $ and benifits to the poor. THEY are why the poor population keep expanding in lockstep w Gov expansion. Very simple once you pay attention. Most people don't have a clue. THATS WHY we're here today. On the edge of a cliff.
You agree with 99.9999% of what officers do and have done? That is a worryingly false % to agree on.
@@mistysowards7365 You sound ridiculous. Seek medical help and get medication.
This is caused by woke supremacy
Boy the “God’s on your side” statement really triggered him.
That truck immediately reversing got me laughing.
The biggest problem here is how none of the officers ordered to have the very road they're aiming down closed off. That whole road and all roads leading to it needed to be closed to traffic. That in turn would:
1) Reduce the liability of striking a civilian in the backdrop
2) Clear the air so that all commands are to the suspect and no commands are being issued to the bystanders, thus eliminating mixed confusing commands the suspect hears.
3) Allow the police to focus solely on the suspect and not have to split their attention between what he's doing and what the people behind him are doing.
I get it's stressful, but closing off roads is basic routine that wasn't initiated.
I was thinking the same exact thing
Why the hell did he shoot though? That guy wasn’t much of an imminent threat… I feel like the less lethal devices should’ve been used then lethal.
What if he still charged at the officers? Even after getting hit by bean bags? It's a time window of 2-3 seconds. Theres no time for a second chance.
He on the other hand, got enough chances over several minutes. Don't be stupid. Otherwise cops will die in such situations.
Poor training.
American cops need to be taught leg shots like European cops are.
@@anonnymous31 Leg shots are way worse than aiming for center mass, Legs have many important arteries that can burst and cause the suspect to bleed out. aiming center mass has a better chance of leaving a suspect alive but wounded.
@@anonnymous31 Anyone advocating leg shots is displaying a fantastical lack of knowledge of both firearms and the human body.
@@anonnymous31 lol European cops aren’t taught to shoot for the legs. These cops have more uncontrolled anxiety than the subject. They seem so broken from the get go.
Well yeah, they know that liberal psychos are going to critique thier every move, have them defunded further, and hire more unqualified people like this woman with the bean bag shotty.
Dealing all day every day with a population of people who've abdicated their humanity will break you. I'm convinced that nearly all cops have some form of PTSD and that many of them have severe PTSD.
That Amazon driver at 4:49 turns around when he sees a wall of cops and guns pointed his way - man, those packages are always on time !!
There has to be a primary officer, and the primary should have been the guy with the body cam, that said “no” when he got shot, the police department needs more cops like him, you can tell he cared about the suspect. Evan tho the guy was coming towards the officer with a knife, the officer still didn’t want him to die, “ god is on your side” inspiring words form the officer, god bless the officer.
This video should be used to train law enforcement personnel what NOT to do in a similar scenario. Such a shame for all involved.
Easy to say sat behind a keyboard.
You're a joke Ken. That guy was saying his prayers before going straight at them weapon first. There is nothing you can train for that.

Message to police- when dealing with a suicidal subject one officer should be delegated as the one to speak to the subject. When there’s 3, 4 or 5 officers yelling commands at you and you’re already not in a good state of mind that’s just going to push him further. They don’t teach this in the LAPD Academy? All you officers just pushed this guy further and further and then killed him when he reacted to the confusion of being yelled at by three idiots.
It's common sense. I'm amazed it needs to be taught at all.
Here's another idea. When 5 different cops tell you to drop the knife and get on the ground you do it. Quit putting the onus on police to do everything and start putting blame where it belongs. On the suspect
